Since “Mission: Impossible III” in 2006, Simon Pegg has been part of the core ensemble of the “Mission: Impossible” franchise, playing hacker and sometime field agent Benji Dunn opposite its stalwart star Tom Cruise as Ethan Hunt. Pegg was never going to be the actor risking life and limb on screen — “it’s Benji’s job to be the one that actually says, ‘what the fuck are we doing here?’,” he observes. But over five installments of the indefatigable series, his character has shifted from questioning what Ethan is doing in the moment to believing absolutely in why he’s doing it, thanks in no small part to the writing and directing of Christopher McQuarrie.
McQuarrie came onto “Ghost Protocol” as “a sort of master plumber to re-wriggle the pipes,” as Pegg characterizes it, and since became the series’ ongoing co-architect with Cruise. Their partnership reaches its peak, even if by...

Episode 1 of The Afterparty season 2 ended with a huge misunderstanding. While Aniq was hoping to be discreet in telling Danner that Grace put something in Edgar’s drink right before the afterparty, Danner ended up announcing it to any potential murderers and Zoe’s family! Danner is really excited to crack this case with Aniq, and she’s quick to swing in and get into everyone’s “mind movies”. Let’s see who she picks for her first interview and what happens next.
Spoilers Ahead
What Happens In Episode 2?
It looks like Aniq’s bad start isn’t going to suddenly morph into something wonderful any time soon. Apart from messing up with the whole Grace situation, he might slowly drift away from Zoe while trying to solve this murder. On the other hand, Grace even thinks it could be Zoe, who, according to her, hated Edgar and killed him.

How great was “The Afterparty?” Chris Miller’s Apple comedy in which murder suspects retell one fateful night in multiple genres became a breakout hit in 2022, renewed for an unexpected yet welcome second season. The new installment premieres Wednesday with two episodes that introduce a new cast, murder, and genres — not quite as exceptional as Season 1, but still enjoyable.
Returning to the scene of the crime are Sam Richardson as Aniq, Tiffany Haddish as now-former detective Danner, and Zoë Chao as Zoe, a year into dating Aniq and taking him to her younger sister Grace’s (Poppy Liu) wedding. When groom Edgar (Zach Woods) is found dead the morning after the ceremony (and shockingly muted after party), Aniq and Danner team up to speak with the eclectic inner circle of guests and find Edgar’s killer.
It’s daunting if not impossible to live up to something as fresh and...

The comedy show The Afterparty returns to Apple TV this week with a new murder and a majorly new cast. The TV comedy is a whodunit with some interesting genre-bending episodes where each character tells the story the way they see it personally. One of the best parts of the first season has to be an animated version of Zoë’s version of the tale, where she navigates through her four internal personalities and comes to the conclusion that she can be all of them at once. It was definitely one of the more serious episodes of the show too (not lacking in comedy in any way though). The first season began with the death of famous pop superstar Xavier (read X-avier), who was murdered in his own home at an afterparty following their school reunion. The prime suspect was Aniq (Sam Richardson), our resident lover boy, who happened to...
