Former Shudder chief Craig Engler left the streaming service a couple months ago, shortly after overseeing the release of the horror film Skinamarink, which was made on a budget of $15,000 and earned over $2 million during its theatrical run. Now Variety reports that Engler has teamed up with The Cartel, the production company behind Shudder’s Creepshow series, to launch Shiver Studios, “a new genre company with plans to make and finance up to 10 horror films a year”!

The end is in sight for Syfy’s Van Helsing. Just days before its December 20 season 4 finale, the network has renewed the vampire drama series for a fifth and final season, Deadline has confirmed. Production on the 13-episode final season is slated to begin early next year for premiere in 2020.

Tricia Helfer, the Canadian actress best known for portraying Number Six on the re-imagined Battlestar Galactica series (2004-2009), is returning to Syfy to join the Season 4 cast of the action-horror series Van Helsing in the role of Dracula. Ahead of Van Helsing’s Season 3 finale on Dec. 28, the vampire series has been renewed for a 13-episode fourth season. Dave Brown and Zadoc Angell have joined Echo Lake Management, the management division of Echo Lake Entertainment, it was announced today by Echo Lake Founder Doug Mankoff. Brown and Angell were formerly at Artist International where Brown served as the President of Motion Picture and Television and Angell served as Head of Television respectively. Former Artist International managers Matt Horwitz and James Engle have also chosen to join Echo Lake. Echo Lake’s management division has continued to grow during the first half of the year, having also added talent managers Graciella Sanchez and Brittany Kahan in January. Under company founder Doug Mankoff, head of management Mike Marcus and President Andrew Spaulding, Echo Lake Entertainment encompasses management, production and financing.
