“Reverence,” an upcoming thriller from writer-director Kyle Kauwika Harris (“Out of Exile”), has started production in Oklahoma.
The film began principal photography this week, with a logline reading: “‘Reverence’ is a dark and moody missing person’s thriller about a traumatized father coming to terms with his violent military past, while searching for his missing daughter in a small, rural town. As police investigate, the circumstances around the case spiral out of control.”
“Reverence” stars Adam Hampton (“Out of Exile”), Whit Kunschick (“Country Gold”), Gattlin Griffith (“The Boys”), Connie Franklin (“Agent Jade Black”) and Ryan Francis (“Hook”). Jacob Ryan Snovel produces for SafeHouse Films with Kenny Pitts, Gared Reinke and Nicholas Clement. (Clement is a Variety contributor.) Jeremy Charles produces under Pursuit Films; Vahid Farzaneh and Kelley Gann produce under Freestyle Creative.

Whether it’s Hollywood’s inability to spawn new blockbuster icons or the entertainment industry’s commitment to placating an audience with an insatiable desire for nostalgia, the summer of 2023 has taken on a distinct Twilight-of-the-Action-Gods feeling.
The season started with Arnold Schwarzenegger doing the streaming equivalent of a ’90s Arnold Schwarzenegger classic, now with meditations on fatherhood and approaching retirement, in Netflix’s Fubar. Then Harrison Ford added meditations on godfatherhood and approaching retirement in Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. The only reason Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One isn’t about fatherhood and approaching retirement is a fear that if Tom Cruise were ever to actually confront, or even address, his own aging, the metaphorical dream factory would implode.
Into this fray of graying tough guy icons strides Timothy Olyphant’s Raylan Givens. For 78 episodes on FX’s Justified, Raylan Givens was a throwback personification of anger-fueled masculinity,...

“There are only two kinds of guys out in the street chasing bad guys at your age — ones who got passed over for ‘the big chair,’ and the ones who just love it so much they’re gonna have to be dragged off. Only question is will they be breathing when it happens.”
That observation-slash-threat comes courtesy of Raylan Givens’ latest formidable foe, Clement Mansell aka “The Oklahoma Wildman,” in the FX limited series Justified: City Primeval. But it also speaks to the fact that the steely-eyed U.S. Marshal indeed cannot seem to stop doing that thing he does so well.

Andy Murray will be the only player in the draw of the 2023 Wimbledon that knows how it feels to beat the biggest favourite, Novak Djokovic .
Murray recently admitted that he still feels like one of the top players on grass and while that is up to debate, him being the only player in the Wimbledon draw to have ever beaten Novak Djokovic on grass is not.
Novak Djokovic won multiple Wimbledon events in his career and he's chasing Roger Federer's record of 8 trophies at the event. He might equal that record this year as he's won seven so far but he's not the only one dreaming about winning the event.
One of them is Andy Murray who is currently pursuing a seeding spot at the event and he's looked good so far. He's unbeaten on the surface though he didn't really face a really great player yet. Even so,...

FX is celebrating Pride Month this year by giving fans a first look at their favorite queer vampires. The channel has released the trailer for Season 5 of “What We Do in the Shadows,” the critically-acclaimed sitcom adaptation of the mockumentary film.
Released in 2014, the original “What We Do in the Shadows” was directed by Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi, who also starred in the film as immortal vampires living in suburban New Zealand. The show, which premiered in 2019, takes the basic premise but translates it to America, following another household of vampires living on Staten Island. The roommates in the show include former emperor Nandor the Relentless (Kayvan Novak), married couple Nadja (Natasia Demetriou) and Laszlo (Matt Berry), boring energy vampire Colin Robinson (Mark Proksch), and Nandor’s familiar, Guillermo (Harvey Guillén).

Roughly a month ahead of its return, “What We Do in the Shadows” has released its Season 5 trailer. The first two episodes are set to stream on FX on Hulu Thursday, July 13. After that, the series will return to a weekly release schedule.
Last season ended with Guillermo (Harvey Guillén), a longtime familiar and heir to the vampire-killing Hellsing family, paying the hapless vampire Derek (Chris Sandiford) to secretly turn transform him into an undead monster. That’s exactly where Season 5 picks up. As Guillermo navigates his new and lackluster vampiric powers, he’ll also have to hide what he’s done from his roommates, friends and master.
“I thought the transformation would be overnight, but it’s been 60 days,” Guillermo says in the trailer. “I can’t even turn into a bat.”
Dejected after trying and failing, he finally stands upright and says, “Human form.”

There have been numerous TV crime series from Europe pairing cops and clergy in the sleuthing. England’s “Father Brown” is among the best known and longest running. Italy has given us “Don Matteo,” with the superb Terence Stamp as a savvy priest. The French offering “Under Law and Grace” (“Priere D’Enquentere”) is a series of four 90-minute movies pairing police captain Elli (Sabrina Ouazani) and her assistant Franck (Jerome Robart) with novitiate monk Clement (Mathieu Spinosi) for murders with varying degrees of religious involvement. While most of these programs have been relatively light in tone, this quartet plays more as straight dramas.
The requisite initial mismatch of personalities is apparent from the get-go, as Elli, whose parents were Muslim and Jewish by birth but atheists in practice, and Franck (who is going through a messy divorce), head to a monastery. A monk was murdered, and a valuable bible was stolen.

Actress Jane Fonda said on a recent episode of ‘Watch What Happens Live’ that French director Rene Clement asked to sleep with her during the making of their 1964 thriller ‘Joy House’.
Fonda starred in the film opposite Alain Delon and Lola Albright, reports Variety.
‘Watch What Happens Live’ host Andy Cohen asked Fonda to name “one man in Hollywood that tried to pick you up once that you turned down.” The Oscar-winning actor replied: “The French director Rene Clement.”
Fonda elaborated: “Well, he wanted to go to bed with me because he said the character had to have an orgasm in the movie and he needed to see what my orgasms were like. He said it in French and I pretended I didn’t understand.”
“I have stories for you, kid, (but) we don’t have time,” Fonda added.

Vertical has nabbed U.S. rights to Clement Virgo’s feature film, “Brother,” following its world premiere at the 2022 Toronto International Film Festival.
Virgo wrote the screenplay and adapted the story of two brothers facing questions of masculinity, family, race and identity from David Chariandy’s novel of the same name. The film stars Lamar Johnson, Aaron Pierre, Kiana Madeira (“Fear Street” franchise) and Marsha Stephanie Blake (“When They See Us”).
The film is slated for a day-and-date release this summer.
Here’s the official description: “Propelled by the pulsing beats of Toronto’s early hip-hop scene, ‘Brother’ is the story of Francis (Pierre) and Michael (Johnson), sons of Caribbean immigrants maturing into young men. A mystery unfolds during the sweltering summer of 1991, and escalating tensions set off a series of events that change the course of the brothers’ lives forever. ‘Brother’ crafts a timely story about the profound bond between siblings,...
