“House of the Dragon” Releases Dueling Season 2 Trailers
Are you Team Green or Team Black?
HBO has released two new trailers for the upcoming second season of its “Game of Thrones” spinoff series “House of the Dragon.”
The new trailers, which set the series’ return on the cabler and Max late this spring, respectively focus on Princess Rhaenrya Targaryen (played by Emma D’Arcy), Prince Daemon (Matt Smith), and their black faction, and on Alicent Hightower’s (Olivia Cooke) green King’s Landing team of Alicent.
The fantasy drama series, based on author George R.R. Martin’s book “Fire & Blood,” details the history of House Targaryen nearly 200 years before the events of “Game of Thrones.” Season 1 followed Rhaenyra in her fight to be named the chosen heir of King Viserys I (Patty Considine) and the lead-up to the Dance of the Dragons.

Co-scripted by White (a vegan), and superbly voiced by the likes of Awkwafina and David Mitchell, this family comedy about migrating ducks is a fun ride with clipped wings
You could do worse at half-term than this new family animation from Illumination (the studio behind Sing and Minions). It’s a zany caper about a family of mallards; it’s not particularly original, with ideas and laughs that feel a little dusty, like they’ve been cobbled from bits and bobs knocking around the studio. But there are enough high jinks – as well as a seriously cute duckling – to keep it on the flight path.
In New England, a daddy duck called Mack (voiced by Kumail Nanjiani) is risk-averse and overprotective of his two kids: teenager Dax (Caspar Jennings) and that adorable duckling, Gwen (Tresi Gazal). Somehow, the kids twist Mack’s wing into migrating south for the first time,...

It was 10 years ago that Keegan-Michael Key got his first voice casting in an animated film, The Lego Movie. It was the start of a big new career for him — since then, he’s made 13 more, including the new film Migration. Key told us that, as he’s gotten more experience working as an animated voiceover artist, he’s learned more and more about how to bring characters to life, which usually has him getting pretty animated himself. Though we’re just seeing the film now, Elizabeth Banks has been involved with Migration for quite a while. Banks, who voices the character of the mother bird in a family that’s trying to migrate south for the winter, told us that the process of making Migration was impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic, but that didn’t matter because the film’s themes are timeless. It’s the big holiday weekend, and for many families, it’s the perfect time for a big getaway. Oh, we’re not talking about a brief trek “over the river and through the woods”. Nope, how about a big excursion like the McCallister clan in the original Home Alone? Come to think of it, it’s strange that the Grisswalds don’t travel anywhere in Christmas Vacation, though Cousin Eddy drops in from afar. But I digress. Now if that’s what human families do, then how about animal families? To be more specific, those “fine feathered” families. Now in this new animated feature, it’s not ‘”yuletime”, but the temps are starting to fall prompting those web-footed folks to join a big southbound Migration.

A family of ducks ends up on the adventure of a lifetime when they decide to head south for the winter in Illumination’s animated film Migration.
Mack Mallard (voiced by Kumail Nanjiani) is an overprotective father who has found the perfect place to raise his two young ducklings, Dax and Gwen (voiced by Caspar Jennings and Tresi Gazal), alongside his wife, Pam (voiced by Elizabeth Banks). It’s a lovely, safe area known as Moosehead Lake and has everything they could ever need, including a pond, plenty of food, and even a fixer-up shelter.
The only problem? Pam, Dax, and even little Gwen are starting to become curious about what exists outside their little world. When a group of migrating ducks takes a rest stop at the pond, Pam and Dax strike up a conversation. The Moosehead Lake duck...

Benjamin Renner’s new comedy Migration offers a winning combination of a charming narrative and distinctive animation style. The film, which was written by White Lotus creator Mike White, is a tale of how a family of mallards embarks on an inspired journey from New England to Jamaica.
The Mallards, as they are aptly named, are a quartet of ducks living in a quiet pond somewhere in the Northeast. As in Renner’s striking 2012 animation Ernest & Celestine, Migration begins at bedtime. We meet Mack (Kumail Nanjiani) as he narrates a chilling story to his ducklings, Dax (Casper Jennings) and Gwen (Tresi Gazal), about the dangers of leaving their nest. He weaves an energetic tale about predatory herons and other monsters ready to devour adventure-seeking ducks. His stories have a fantastical edge to them — the preferred posture of overprotective parents. And they are brought to life by vivid 2D animations. There...

In a medium where stop-motion chickens organize elaborate escape plans, computer-generated ducks have to do a lot more than relocate to amuse us. Illumination’s “Migration” — about a fussy duck dad who reluctantly reconsiders his fear of flying — is a cartoon in search of a concept, where the most daring idea is hiring the Oscar-nominated co-director of 2012’s “Ernest & Celestine” and asking him to abandon that movie’s unique watercolor style in favor of a relatively standard digital approach. At least the backgrounds are eye-catching, as a waddle of mallards crack jokes amid beautiful fall foliage.
In the opening scene, director Benjamin Renner teases what “Migration” might have looked like had Illumination honcho Chris Meledandri let him stick to his signature aesthetic, rather than bend it to the studio’s house style: Emerald-headed, overprotective Mack tells his kids, Dax (Caspar Jennings) and Gwen (Tresi Gazal), scary bedtime stories so...

Illumination is a rare animation studio, in that they have landed upon a formula for the majority of their films and they seem perfectly content in hewing to that formula no matter what stories are being told. The studio thrives on mid-budget films that bring together a recognizable ensemble, some pop songs, and stories that feel vaguely cribbed from Pixar Animation Studios without being out-and-out plagiarism. Illumination, like DreamWorks, also leans heavily on turning its films into lengthy franchises, which has given us the obnoxious and leaden "Despicable Me" series (including its multiple "Minions" spin-offs), the obnoxious and leaden "Sing" films, and the obnoxious and leaden "The Secret Life of Pets" films. For this holiday season, Illumination is trying to do another original film, but much like the first "Secret Life of Pets", the new film "Migration" is original in name only, while feeling like a flavorless mishmash of "Finding Nemo" and "Ratatouille.

Chris Meledandri’s Illumination animation house has had a boatload of hits from Despicable Me and Minions to 2023’s global smash The Super Mario Bros Movie. But in between, this underrated (in terms of awards) producer of delightful and genuinely funny toons creates new franchises by embracing originals such as The Secret Life of Pets and Sing, winners both in my book. Now, just in time for the holidays, comes Migration, about a family of ducks on the adventure of a lifetime. It is the kind of animated entertainment that all ages will find something to like, and in terms of the creative talent involved, it is a breath of fresh air in the genre.

Fall is in full swing, and before you know it, winter will arrive and flocks of birds will embark on their journey south for their migration. Illumination Studios is following up their Minions series and the new video game adaptation smash hit, The Super Mario Bros. Movie, with the particular story of a mallard flock who get side-tracked on their venture to Jamaica and find themselves fish out of water, so to speak, in the big city amongst a bunch of strange birds. The new trailer has just been released and gives audiences more of a peek at the plot.
The official synopsis from Illumination reads,
The Mallard family is in a bit of rut. While dad Mack is content to keep his family safe paddling around their New England pond forever, mom Pam is eager to shake things up and show their kids—teen son Dax and duckling daughter Gwen—the whole wide world.

Having collected all the gold coins in the Mushroom Kingdom thanks to "The Super Mario Bros. Movie," Illumination is gearing up to release its next animated feature film, "Migration." The studio's first original project since 2016's "Sing", the movie follows a family of ducks as they set forth on their very first vacation. What ensues is a classic cultural clash as these humble country birds cross paths with all manner of unknown critters and baffling obstacles on the way to their sunny, tropical final destination. Discussing the movie at this year's CinemaCon in Las Vegas, Illumination CEO and founder Chris Meledandri...
