Paramount-owned Channel 5 has secured exclusive first-run rights to air Peacock’s Stormy, telling the in-her-own-words story of the woman currently embroiled in a legal tussle with former Potus Donald Trump. Produced by Sarah Gibson and Erin Lee Carr, Stormy offers an intimate look behind the scenes as the former adult movie star navigates her roles as a mother, an artist and an advocate striving to reinvent herself while contending with the explosive revelation that shook her life five years ago. Apatow is exec producing alongside Emmy Award-winning Sara Bernstein and Meredith Kaulfers from Imagine Documentaries. Daniels is currently involved in a very public legal battle with Trump over alleged hush money paid for her silence about an alleged sexual liaison years earlier. “Bringing...

Trump’s trial takes place from today in New York. Peacock’s Stormy is produced by Emmy-nominated Erin Lee Carr and producer/director Sarah Gibson (Orgasm Inc: The Story of One Taste), who were also behind the Britney vs. Spears explosive doc. “Our team is thrilled to have international rights for this sought-after documentary produced by two renowned filmmakers who specialize in portraying the stories of women...

The South by Southwest debut of “Stormy” was not your typical Imagine Documentaries premiere.
About adult film star Stormy Daniels’ alleged affair with former President Donald Trump, the film drew an eclectic crowd that included porn stars and “Muppet” director-producer Frank Oz, who sat in the same row as Daniels and her entourage made up mainly of buff bodyguards. Dogs sniffed Austin’s Stateside Theater prior to the screening. After it unspooled, Daniels spoke to the SXSW audience, revealing that she first met “Stormy” exec producer Judd Apatow when he hired her for a small part in his 2005 film “40 Year-Old Virgin.” When she was a no-show due to a death in the family, Apatow sent her flowers and rescheduled her shoot date.
“I thought he would replace me,” Daniels, who would go on to appear in “Knocked Up” for the filmmaker, told the crowd, with director Sarah Gibson standing nearby.

Five years ago, Stormy Daniels found herself in the bizarre position of being one of the most ostensibly powerful, yet simultaneously vulnerable, women in America. The former porn star found herself in a nationwide tabloid maelstrom when it was reported that she had had a very brief sexual relationship with then-President Donald Trump in 2006, after the two had met at a golf-pro tournament in Lake Tahoe. (Daniels says it was one single encounter, and that it was consensual, albeit unpleasant.) It was later revealed that his attorney, Michael Cohen,...

Over the past five years, adult film star Stormy Daniels has been hailed as a resistance icon for her willingness to stand up to former President Donald Trump, but Peacock's new documentary doesn't mistake her story for anything but a tragedy. Viewers hoping for an inspirational tale about the importance of speaking truth to power should look elsewhere: Directed by Sarah Gibson, Stormy makes the case that Daniels' life has been destroyed by her protracted legal battle with Trump. It's a fight Daniels never asked for, but can't escape, particularly now that Trump has been indicted for allegedly paying her $130,000 in hush money weeks before the 2016 election. (Trump pleaded not guilty to all 34 felony counts of falsifying business records; the trial is scheduled to begin in late March.)...

This week is Huge. How huge, you might be asking? Well, we’ve got an ambitious sci-fi epic from the “Game of Thrones” team hitting Netflix (“3 Body Problem”); a “Road House” remake starring Jake Gyllenhaal on Prime Video; and the return of the ‘90s era “X-Men” animated series coming to Disney+. And that’s just scratching the surface – also in the offerings are a documentary on Stormy Daniels (“Stormy”), a dramatization of the Yorkshire Ripper case (“The Long Shadow”) and Regina King playing Shirley Chisholm (“Shirley”). Like we said: Huge.

A sympathetic portrait of a porn star whose life was turned upside down by the President of the United States, Sarah Gibson’s “Stormy” might not be confused for any of the other movies that its subject has starred in before, but it shares a few key things in common with virtually all of them: It’s poorly shot, severely lacking in character detail, and much longer than most people would ever need it to be. There’s self-evident value in Gibson’s efforts to spotlight the human consequences of tabloid scandal, and her film illustrates America’s culture of misogyny with the same conviction that it assails the financially punitive nature of our country’s legal system. And yet, the more this bland and incurious Peacock Original argues that Stormy has been done wrong by the media, the more convincingly it makes the case that she deserved a better documentary.

Stormy Daniels cried and laughed during the SXSW world premiere of “Stormy,” a Peacock documentary about the porn star who made national headlines when it was revealed that Donald Trump’s lawyer Michael Cohen paid her $130,000 to keep quiet about her alleged affair with the former president.
“Fuck Trump,” Daniels said onstage following the March 8 screening.
Directed and produced by Sarah Gibson, “Stormy” delves into how Daniels navigated motherhood and her career while grappling with the aftermath of her alleged sexual relationship with Trump.
Judd Apatow, who executive produced the doc via his Apatow Productions, described the 110-minute film as both a “political documentary and a character study.”
“A lot of footage was being shot as everything was happening with Trump during his presidency,” Apatow said while introducing the film at Austin’s Stateside Theater. “You get a fly-on-the-wall view of what it was like for her as the story exploded,...

Stormy Daniels skipped the red carpet Friday but took the stage briefly after a screening of documentary Stormy, which had its SXSW premiere on the festival’s opening night. She was emotional, often wiping away tears, as she embraced director Sarah Gibson and talked about how important the film is to her. But she displayed her trademark defiance too, closing with a parting shot — “And f*ck Trump.”
“Thank you Sarah for doing this with me and telling such a great story,” she said. “As a filmmaker, your transitions were amazing. And you didn’t use too many shots that made me look fat. So thank you.”
Judd Apatow is an executive producer for the film, which premieres on Peacock later this month.

Peacock has released the first trailer for its Stormy Daniels documentary, which reveals plenty of never-before-seen footage showing Daniels’ roller-coaster life amid her legal sparring with Donald Trump.
“Every time I stood up I got kicked down even harder, and I hit rock bottom,” Daniels says in the trailer below, which includes Daniels reading a death threat on her phone. “I just wanted to stand up for myself. I won’t give up because I’m telling the truth.”
The footage also includes Daniels reacting in real time to discovering her celebrity lawyer Michael Avenatti was stealing from her book proceeds. “Michael Avenatti betrayed me in every way,” she declares. “You’re in prison, bitch!”
The project, Stormy, is directed and produced by Emmy nominee Sarah Gibson (Orgasm Inc: The Story of OneTaste) and executive produced by Erin Lee Carr (Britney vs Spears), along with Judd Apatow, Sara Bernstein and Meredith Kaulfers.

Stormy Daniels is out of fucks to give and ready to discuss it all — Donald Trump, Michael Avenatti, the media, and much more — in the new trailer for Stormy, a documentary premiering March 18 on Peacock.
Directed by Sarah Gibson, the film will examine Daniels’ personal and public life as she aims to reinvent herself after five years of chaos. Daniels famously became a central figure in American politics after it came out that Donald Trump allegedly directed a hush money payment to her before the 2016 election to cover up an allegation of a past affair.

Netflix's library of true-crime and "true scandal" documentaries just got a new addition. "Orgasm Inc: The Story of OneTaste" features some familiar beats: an "edgy" wellness brand promising great results but requiring intense intimacy, whispers of inappropriate pressure and abusive behavior, and lawsuits aplenty. Let's break down some of the key facts we know about OneTaste, its controversies, and what's happened since.
What Is OneTaste?
Founded in 2005 by Nicole Daedone, OneTaste billed itself as a "sexual wellness" company focused on a trademarked practice called "orgasmic meditation." At one time, the company was promoted by major celebs like Gwyneth Paltrow.
What Is Orgasmic Meditation?
"Orgasmic meditation" (Om-ing for short) was touted as a way to "connect to yourself, connect to your partner, and to feel more in your body" in OneTaste promotional videos featured in "Orgasm Inc." According to a 2009 New York Times report, the practice involved men and women pairing up as "research partners.

“There’s a pleasure deficit disorder in this country… and the cure is the female orgasm.” Those are the words of Nicole Daedone, the co-founder of the American orgasmic meditation group OneTaste, during a 2011 Ted talk.
A new Netflix documentary, Orgasm Inc: The Story of OneTaste, features never-before-seen footage and interviews that lift the lid on the group, and an FBI investigation into claims of sex trafficking, prostitution and labour violations at the organisation.
OneTaste, founded by Daedone and Robert Kandell, began as a Silicon Valley wellness start-up in 2015, and was promoted by celebrities including Gwyneth Paltrow (who interviewed Daedone on her Goop podcast) and Khloé Kardashian.
Over the years, it slowly transformed into something much more damaging, and has been accused of becoming a for-profit sex cult. While Daedone stepped down as CEO in 2017, her book, Slow Sex, is still up for sale on Goop’s website.

They were seeking a 15-minute climax, not 15 minutes of Netflix fame, a new lawsuit unsealed this week in Los Angeles alleges.
In a complaint obtained by Rolling Stone, more than a dozen one-time members of the controversial “orgasmic meditation” group OneTaste claim that the upcoming Netflix documentary Orgasm Inc.: The Story of OneTaste will use “misappropriated” recordings of their training sessions, violate their privacy rights, and unfairly associate them with “salacious” and “implied” criminal behavior.

Freeform has pulled back the curtain on its move into non-fiction with two docuseries and a reality series kicking off its unscripted slate.
The Disney-owned network has ordered The Deep End, a four-part docuseries about controversial spiritual teachers, Dear Pony: Keep This Between Us, a series about grooming in U.S. high schools directed by Phoenix Rising helmer Amy Berg and Day to Night, an eight-part reality series set in New York City.
The slate is overseen by Jihan Robinson, VP, Alternative Development, Freeform, the former Quibi and Netflix exec who joined in December 2020.
Robinson said that non-fiction is a genre that its Gen Z and millennial audience loves.
“Freeform as a whole is just really looking to be reflective and authentic to the young adult experience,” she told Deadline. “As a part of that, this audience is really engaged and loves the category of nonfiction programming across the board.

The aim of the creative thinktank was to assist local companies to get their projects to market by connecting them with international leaders in digital media, who were then able to provide mentorship and feedback.
Partners in the lab included the Beijing Film Academy; Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry; Npo, the national broadcaster in The Netherlands; the American Film Institute; Digital Hollywood; 5D Global; the British Council, and the Federal Office of Culture in Switzerland.

Chicago – Any film that adds to the climate debate by bringing in a fresh and intelligent voice is certainly worth one’s time. From that perspective, “Cool It” is a documentary of considerable value, though it’s less rewarding than one might hope. Though it aims to be the cinematic rebuttal to “An Inconvenient Truth,” it falls far short, in part because the film simply isn’t as well-crafted or effective as Davis Guggenheim’s 2006 Oscar-winner.
“Truth” served its purpose as a call to alarm, jettisoning the undeniable yet controversial issue of global warming into the public consciousness. As author of “The Skeptical Environmentalist,” Bjørn Lomborg is determined to debunk the scare-tactics and misinformation that he feels ran rampant throughout “Truth.” Yet with its reputation-cleansing montages and self-serving analysis, “Cool It” is every bit as much a manipulative work of propaganda as Guggenheim’s film, lionizing Lomborg in much the...

Chicago – The subject of global warming is not going away, both from an environmental standpoint and as a debate. The argument that crystallized with Al Gore’s “An Inconvenient Truth” has effected politics, science and the thoughts of all world citizens. Academic Bjorn Lomborg contributes his point of view in the new documentary, “Cool It.”
Lomborg is a controversial figure in this debate. His book, “The Skeptical Environmentalist,” was a screed that contended that while global warming and climate change are a threat, it is neither the sky-is-falling rationalization on the Al Gore side, nor deserves the blithe dismissal of climate change deniers. Lomborg wants to approach the problem through a different lens, one he asserts is more centrist.

Director: Ondi Timoner Writers: Bjørn Lomborg (book), Terry Botwick, Sarah Gibson, Ondi Timoner Starring: Bjørn Lomborg Ondi Timoner's documentary Cool It follows Danish author and scholar Bjørn Lomborg (The Environmental Skeptic; Cool It: The Skeptical Environmentalist’s Guide To Global Warming), a gadfly to many environmentalists, who contends that though global warming does exist, our environmental situation is far less grave than the fear propaganda of "alarmists" such as Al Gore lead us to believe. Lomborg refutes four of the scariest “facts” presented by Gore’s An Inconvenient Truth while also criticizing the all-talk and no-action of international conferences (such as the 1997 Kyoto Protocol and the 2009 Copenhagen Summit) which proposed outlandish actions (such as Cap and Trade and Carbon Taxing) that would cost billions and have very little positive change. Cool It ponders whether the current budgets allocated towards climate change, global poverty, clean drinking water, education and...

- [Ed's note: This was originally published during the 2008 Sundance Film Festival.] Patrick Creadon Can you discuss the genius of this project – how did the initial idea come about or how did this become a story you wanted to tell? Did Wordplay put you in a financial hole? As we were wrapping up our last film “Wordplay” we received a call from producer Sarah Gibson about doing a film about the national debt. The film is based loosely on the writings of William Bonner and Addison Wiggin and their book “Empire of Debt”. We thought the story they told was a very fascinating and important one and decided to take on the project. Sarah and the authors had seen “Wordplay” and – only half-jokingly -- thought that if we could make crossword puzzles interesting and entertaining, imagine what we could do with the federal debt! As for “Wordplay”, it was film that Christine and I financed with help from my brother Michael Creadon
