The world recently said farewell to Roger Corman, the legendary B-movie producer, writer, director, and performer who passed away at the well-lived age of 98. Corman completely revolutionized the film industry, not only with his independent spirit and penchant for low-budget fare, but also serving as a launchpad for some of cinema's greatest creatives, including Robert De Niro, Martin Scorsese, Jonathan Demme, Francis Ford Coppola, James Cameron, Jack Nicholson, and Penelope Spheeris, and that's just scratching the surface.
Known by many for his hundreds of produced films, Corman was also a well-decorated director in his own right, helming 55 films before his death. Corman dabbled in any and all genres, with comedy, drama, horror, exploitation, monster, sci-fi, sexploitation, gothic, and action all well-represented throughout his filmography. In honor of the King of B-movies and one of the most prolific filmmakers of all time, here are his 10 best films as a director, ranked.

Laurence Fox has been ordered to pay £180,000 in damages to a former RuPaul’s Drag Race UK star and charity trustee he called “paedophiles” on social media.
The former Gb News host lost his libel case against Crystal, whose real name is Colin Seymour, and Simon Blake, a trustee of UK charity Stonewall, several months ago.
According to Pa, he has been ordered to pay £180,000 in damages, split evenly between Crystal and Blake.
“By calling Mr Blake and Mr Seymour paedophiles, Mr Fox subjected them to a wholly undeserved public ordeal,” the judge was reported to have said by Pa. “It was a gross, groundless and indefensible libel, with distressing and harmful real-world consequences for them.”
Both Crystal and Blake have previously said they faced abuse after the former Lewis star’s tweet and posted on X after the trial that “a huge weight” had been lifted. Crystal competed in...

Nearly ten year after the Emmy Award-winning first season, “The Jinx” is remarkably back on HBO. Andrew Jarecki, Marc Smerling, and Zac Stuart-Pontier’s engrossing docuseries about the string of murders connected to Robert Durst built to a now-infamous climax, and will return with more story to tell April 21.
Before that, it’s worth revisiting the 2015 series and decades of headlines it interrogates. “The Jinx” gripped its audience with mounting evidence against Durst and a scintillating narrative structure, but also quickly came under fire for manipulating the timeline and even Durst’s hot mic recordings for dramatic effect. In 2015, IndieWire’s Matt Brennan pointed out that “The Jinx” set an impossible standard for documentary drama — one that the series itself had arguably not cleared in the first place. Jessica Kiang wrote that “This is not Jarecki’s gotcha so much as it is a self-initiated, cloudily motivated performance piece of Durst’s,...

After dabbling in TV for much of the last decade, Gremlins and The Howling director Joe Dante is set to return to feature filmmaking with his first project since 2014’s Burying the Ex. Dante, who kicked off his career in the late 1970s with the Roger Corman-backed Hollywood Boulevard and Piranha, will now reunite with the legendary filmmaker for a reboot of Little Shop of Horrors.
Initially directed by Corman in 1960 as a micro-budget feature (starring a young Jack Nicholson!), the story was then re-popularized in the 1980s with Frank Oz’s take, itself based on Alan Menken and writer Howard Ashman’s Off-Broadway play. This new version is titled Little Shop of Halloween Horrors, Deadline reports. Corman will produce Dante’s reboot, which is described as a hopeful franchise-starter (continuer?), but there are no other specific details outside of the obvious Halloween theme of the title.

Jane Seymour is speaking out against ageism and the idea that women have a “sell-by date.” The 73-year-old actress is fighting back against the social phenomenon that is “unseenism,” which describes the notion that women get devalued as they age in society. “Unseenism” also often leads doctors to dismiss the medical concerns of women above a certain age. “A lot of women, sort of [age] 50 on, just kind of hide away and expect not to be listened to or heard,” the Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman star tells People. “It’s a real, really large issue in the medical world because you have to empower women to actually stand up for their rights.” Although she is a two-time Golden Globe winner and Emmy winner, Seymour still feels unseen not only in Hollywood but also in her day-to-day life, like when she goes to get her car repaired. That is why she joined...

Voice actor Maurice Lamarche is one of the preeminent elder statesmen of his craft. He started his career in stand up, finding he was a talented mimic, moving into animation in 1980. He appeared in hit shows like "Inspector Gadget" and "Transformers," really hitting his stride in 1985 playing Ego Spengler in "The Real Ghostbusters." He cycled through the KidsWB canon aggressively in the late '80s and early '90s, appearing in "Taz-Mania," "Batman: The Animated Series," "Tiny Toon Adventures," "Freakazoid!," and "Animaniacs" wherein he employed his spot-on Orson Welles impersonation to voice the power-hungry mouse the Brain. His largest sampling of voice caricatures came from his work on the 1994 series "The Critic," where he voiced celebrities ranging from William Shatner to Elizabeth Taylor (but only when she was belching).
In 1999, Lamarche became one of the regulars on Mat Groening's and David X. Cohen's sci-fi sitcom "Futurama" where he played Kif,...

British actor Laurence Fox has lost a libel case with two men he called pedophiles on social media after they had called the My Son Hunter star a racist.
On Monday, the High Court in the U.K. deemed that Fox had defamed Simon Blake, a former LGBT charity trustee, and Crystal, a drag artist and former RuPaul’s Drag Race contestant, on Twitter/X in October 2020, when he called them pedophiles over an escalating row over Black History Month.

It’s early afternoon on a Friday when Darren Criss and Evan Rachel Wood pick up the phone, just five days before they are set to debut as the new Seymour and Audrey in off-Broadway’s Little Shop of Horrors.
Both are on their way to the Westside Theatre stage for their first top-to-bottom run-through, taking over the complicated but beloved characters based on Roger Corman’s 1960 horror comedy and deftly adapted for the stage by theater legends Howard Ashman (book and lyrics) and Alan Menken (music).
Now in the fifth year of the U.S. revival of the dark goings-on of a Skid Row flower shop, several notable names have left their mark on the show: Jonathan Groff, Jeremy Jordan, Conrad Ricamora, Corbin Bleu, Constance Wu, Maude Apatow, Tammy Blanchard and Lena Hall. But none quite like this, as an intentional leap together among friends.

Seymour was at the from station 1977 to 2010. In that time she transformed it from a quality radio outlet run out of a junior high school classroom to one of the most influential NPR stations in the country produced in a state of the art studio at Santa Monica College.
Seymour initially came on as a consultant and became General Manager in 1978. Her ascension to a management role roughly coincided with the station moving to a powerful new transmitter, which greatly expanded its reach.

Ruth Seymour, the hard-driving broadcast pioneer who transformed Kcrw into a public radio powerhouse during her 32-year run at what was a sleepy Santa Monica-based station, died Friday. She was 88.
Seymour died after a long illness at her home in Santa Monica, former Kcrw producer/publicity director Sarah Spitz announced.
The Bronx-born Seymour joined the FM station in 1977 as a consultant and became general manager a few months later. Her mission statement for Kcrw was “to matter,” and she built it to be “singular, idiosyncratic, daring, independent, smart and compelling” — six words she employed over and over in her fundraising letters and on-air subscription drives.
During her tenure, Kcrw became the West Coast flagship station for National Public Radio and launched a mix of news, talk, music, current affairs and cultural programming that included the signature music show Morning Becomes Eclectic; Which Way L.A.?, hosted by Warren Olney in the wake of the 1992 L.

In a new interview with The Messenger, Seymour, who starred as the titular Dr. Michaela “Mike” Quinn in the 1800s set series, revealed that one unnamed network recently passed on the project, who allegedly told her, “they weren’t interested in Westerns.” “We’ve actually got one [episode] written, and we’ve got the whole series planned out,” Seymour said. “We just took it to one of the networks, and they said that they weren’t interested in Westerns.” “I think it’s really crazy,” she continued. “There seems to be a lot of very successful Westerns, so I didn’t get that at all.” Indeed, there have been a number of successful Western shows in recent years, most notably Taylor Sheridan‘s super hit Yellowstone, which itself has led to several spinoffs.

The suits don’t want any Westerns, Jane Seymour says.
The actress said in an interview by The Messenger website that she recently pitched an idea for a Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman reboot.
“We’ve actually got one written, and we’ve got the whole series planned out,” Seymour said. “We just took it to one of the networks, and they said that they weren’t interested in Westerns.”
That’s even though Yellowstone and several other Taylor Sheridan stories have become giants.
“I think it’s really crazy,” she said. “There seems to be a lot of very successful Westerns, so I didn’t get that at all.”
Seymour was equally baffled by a follow-up idea, which presumably came from the same executive.
“It was pitched to me last night, believe it or not, to do Dr. Quinn as a contemporary piece,” Seymour said. “I’m going, ‘Why?’ The whole point of Dr.

Here is a wrap-up of all the news you need to know from Friday, December 1, 2023.
Netflix has been teasing the final episodes of The Crown for months, and we're this close to delving into the last six episodes of the royal drama.
Today, the streamer gave us another look, thanks to a full-length trailer that's as sad as it is satisfying.
This chapter is closing, but how close will we get to the present timeline?
Will there be any surprise flash-forwards? We're not sure, but we are confident we'll be seated to watch this play out.
