U.K. TV giant ITV on Thursday reported a 3 percent advertising revenue gain for the first quarter of 2024, with the current second quarter forecast to record stronger growth. But its ITV Studios unit posted a big drop “due to the phasing of deliveries which are heavily weighted to the second half and the expected impact from both the 2023 U.S. writers and actors strikes and the weaker demand from free-to-air broadcasters in Europe” which, the company said, “have been holding back spend until they see more certainty in the advertising market.”
ITV’s quarterly ad gain was in line with management’s forecasts. Compared to the same period in 2023, ITV had previously forecast its first-quarter 2024 ad revenue would be up 3 percent, “with continued strong growth in digital advertising revenues.”

Based on the 1980s TV series of the same name, "The Equalizer" trilogy sees Denzel Washington playing a killing machine. Washington is Robert McCall, a former Marine and ex-Defense Intelligence Agency agent who would really like to be left alone. Unfortunately, scumbags and other villains frequently cross his path, which means McCall is often getting back into action and killing a lot of people.
Directed by Antoine Fuqua, the "Equalizer" trilogy is ultra-violent and action-packed. It's also surprisingly solid. These aren't great movies, but like Robert McCall, they get the job done in swift, brutal fashion. "The Equalizer 3" feels like an ending of sorts for Robert McCall, which makes for a sturdy trilogy. But how does the trilogy stack up as a whole? Which is the best entry? Which is the worst?
Let's find out by ranking "The Equalizer" movies!

ITV boss Carolyn McCall has detailed the potential for a post-strike “blip” as commissioning conversations are restarted with U.S. buyers, while the head of ITV Studios described generative AI as a “co-pilot for creatives.”
Speaking after the publication of ITV’s full-year results, which saw profits tumble by 32% amidst a tricky ad market, McCall said a factor “never really talked about” in relation to last year’s months-long U.S. labor strikes is that “commissioning conversations could not happen and we were not allowed to pitch ideas or discuss anything that would build a pipeline.”
“This is never really talked about but is also quite an important factor in the market,” she said, adding that the more obvious impact of the strike physically delaying productions had been prominent in discussions.

ITV profits tumbled by 32% following a tricky 2023 but there were green shoots in a solid performance from the Studios production arm, as the broadcaster reveals it is in the early stages of a “strategic restructuring and efficiency programme.”
Delivering its full-year results this morning, the UK’s biggest commercial broadcaster said adjusted Ebita for the group had fallen 32% to £489M ($622M), with margin at 13% – down 6 percentage points.
Adjusted profit before tax fell by a sharper 41% to £396M. The commissioning team, known as Media & Entertainment, saw Ebita slide by a whopping 56% to £205M.
ITV said the profit woes are due to “the decline in linear television advertising” and planned investment in streamer Itvx. Growth in digital advertising “substantially offset” a 15% decline in linear advertising, according to ITV. Total advertising revenue was down 8% to £1.8B.

ITV, led by CEO Carolyn McCall, also saw total external revenue drop 2 percent in the latest full year to £4.26 billion ($5.43 billion). Adjusted profit before tax for the year fell 41 percent to £396 million ($504 million).
On an earnings conference call, McCall said 2023 featured “a tough advertising market,” but she was now seeing “more confidence in the ad market.” Compared to the same period in 2023, ITV is forecasting its first-quarter 2024 ad revenue to be up 3 percent, “with continued strong growth in

With no recent news on that rumoured new Friday The 13th game, what are fans to do? Well, if you’re like indie developer Steve McCall, you make your own. Not only that, but you take your existing game, along with other slasher games that you’ve made, and you demake it into the style of an Nes game.
The story goes that McCall had created four games a few decades ago where you play as one of four iconic slashers: Jason Voorhees, Freddy Krueger, Michael Myers and Candyman. The four games—Friday The 13th: Return to Camp Blood, Halloween: October 31st, A Nightmare on Elm Street: Son of a Hundred Maniacs, and Candyman: Be My Victim—were developed for what he referred to as “archaic computers”, and feature simplified controls.
Really though, when you’re playing as one of horror’s favourite slashers, do you really need complicated controls?...

The classic Western genre wasn’t really known for its complexities; rather, it was known for its linear storyline. Fueled by a revenge-based story, morality drama, and iconic shots of the American frontier, if I’m being honest, Westerns were a simple pleasure for most people. While Calamity Jane does not offer much, it is, in all fairness, a decent twist to the white male-led genre. Starring Emily Bett Rickards as the female gunslinger, this movie follows similar tropes but from a female perspective.

Fans of British TV ate well in 2023. The year said goodbye to some excellent British TV shows with the finales of extraordinary crime dramas Happy Valley, Top Boy, Guilt and Endeavour – four very different shows set in four very different places. We waved off comedies Sex Education and Ghosts, and welcomed back some exciting returns in the form of Black Mirror, Good Omens and of course, Doctor Who.
And then there were the new additions – superhero comedy Extraordinary, police newbie drama Blue Lights, mind-bending comic book adaptation Bodies and chilling true crime series The Sixth Commandment.
It’s hard to separate the pack, but using a complex system of pulleys and levers, a gunge machine and – unfortunately necessary for the person who nominated The Idol – an oubliette, Den of Geek polled its writers and drew up two lists of the best TV of the year, one for American shows and...

Denzel Washington closes out his action trilogy with this year’s The Equalizer 3. Antoine Fuqua has thrown around the idea of exploring the early days of the character in the franchise, and perhaps Denzel’s son, John David Washington, could possibly step into the role for the younger incarnation. Meanwhile, Robert McCall’s last outing will be coming to digital platforms tomorrow, November 7. Sony has now unveiled the details for the Blu-ray, 4K Uhd and DVD releases.
The third film’s synopsis from Sony reads,
“Since giving up his life as a government assassin, Robert McCall (Denzel Washington) has struggled to reconcile the horrific things he’s done in the past and finds a strange solace in serving justice on behalf of the oppressed. Finding himself surprisingly at home in Southern Italy, he discovers his new friends are under the control of local crime bosses. As events turn deadly, McCall...

Carolyn McCall, CEO of ITV, has led the U.K. TV giant since 2018, driving its transformation for the digital age.
Freemium streaming service Itvx launched in late 2022 with such originals as Cold War drama A Spy Among Friends, starring Damian Lewis and Guy Pearce. It has brought the company “over 2 billion streams and a significant increase in users,” emphasizes McCall.
The firm’s production arm ITV Studios is “the largest producer in the U.K, one of the largest unscripted producers in the U.S. and one of the top three in the majority of the remaining international markets in which it operates,” ITV touts on its website. ITV Studios has launched such hit shows as Tomorrow Studios’ live-action manga adaptation One Piece, World Production’s Line of Duty from Jed Mercurio and Love Island, which is now commissioned in 27 territories. It also owns stakes in such companies as Jason Blum’s Blumhouse Television.

After multiple Oscars, Silver Bears, Golden Globes, Grammys and a Tony, Denzel Washington has earned the right to be called one of the greatest actors of our time. He could drop the surname and still be instantly recognisable – two syllables that guarantee acting excellence.
Key to his success is his ability to mesmerise an audience into seeing past his instantly recognisable face and observing only the character. It’s arguably the central tenet to any actor’s success, yet it is with unusual success and consistency that Denzel Washington has been able to shift from character to character seemingly with ease. This is an actor who rarely repeats himself.
The need for variety and the consistency of execution makes his sole franchise role all the more intriguing. Today sees the digital premiere for the third entry in The Equalizer series, with his Training Day director Antoine Fuqua ending the trilogy...

U.K. TV giant ITV’s CEO Carolyn McCall said on Thursday that “strong leaders” must ensure talent is managed properly to avoid “appalling” behavior in the TV industry.
Speaking in a keynote at the Royal Television Society (Rts) Cambridge Convention days after allegations against Russell Brand were reported, she was asked about reports on complaints about industry talent in general, with Brand’s name not being specifically mentioned. “It’s a really serious issue,” the ITV boss said. “It’s appalling, some of the things that have emerged.”
She emphasized that “how talent is managed” is a “very big area that we’ve spent an awful lot of time on,” adding: “You have to have strong leaders, managers, who will say, ‘That’s not appropriate,’ or, ‘We’ve had a complaint and this is what we’re going to do about it.’ And I think perhaps that has not happened enough.
