- Maya Kamila Hoffmann is known for Tom Medina (2021), Black White + Gray: A Portrait of Sam Wagstaff and Robert Mapplethorpe (2007) and Lou Reed: Berlin (2007).
- She is one of the descendants of the founders of the pharmaceutical giant Hoffman-La Roche. Her father Luc Hoffman born Lukas Hoffman (1923-2016), doctor of biology, established the basis of what is now the Camargue parc national in the south of France near Arles. He was also one of the co founders of the World Wildlife Fund . Her mother is countess Daria Razumovsky (1925-).
- Her grandmother Maja Stehlin (1896-1989) was a painter and, in memory of her husband Emanuel Hoffman (1896-1932), created an art foundation in his name whose collections are now in Basel's Schaulager museum. Widowed she married Paul Sacher.
