After Iron Man came out in 2008, Marvel fans were pretty much convinced that Robert Downey Jr. was the perfect fit for the character. Dragon Ball characters share something similar, which fans may realize with the arrival of Sparking Zero. They will notice if there is a change in voice behind a character. Much like the short instance that happened with King Kai’s voice during the Frieza Saga.
Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero is said to bring in 164 characters with its roster, and the better half of them seemed to have retained their voices from the original English dub of the anime. The game is rumored to arrive by the end of this year, but nothing has been officially announced concerning it.
That’s Indeed Gohan, but There’s Something Odd About Him Stephanie Nadolny voiced Son Gohan in Dragon Ball Z.

Very few anime series can lay claim to running for over 1,000 episodes. Even fewer have received English dubs that have reached that point: “Pokemon: The Series” (dubbed continually since 1998) and now ”One Piece.”
“One Piece” follows Monkey D. Luffy and the Straw Hat Pirates as they travel the high seas in search of the titular treasure that will transform him into King of the Pirates. But the anime’s journey to a faithful English dub was almost as rough as Luffy’s adventures.
While the series did have international name recognition not long after its 1999 debut in Japan, it wouldn’t be until June 2004 that it was licensed by 4Kids Entertainment, the company behind the “Pokémon” English adaptation. Fans were concerned, as 4Kids was becoming increasingly infamous for altering the anime shows they licensed to make them more palatable for younger audiences.

The One Piece anime has been around since 1999, and after reaching its 1000th episode, the long-running series has never been better. After almost 25 years, the original manga is reaching its final stretch, which in turn, has the anime nearing the same conclusion. As such, several moments are being celebrated alongside its 1000-episode milestone, like its upcoming live-action series on Netflix and Luffy’s new internet-breaking Gear 5 transformation. Now, after several licensing issues causing the dub to falter in its pace, is only a little over a year behind the initial airing of Episode 1000 in Japan. To celebrate the achievement, voice actors Colleen Clinkenbeard (the English voice of Luffy), Luci Christian (the English voice of Nami), Sonny Strait (the English voice of Usopp), and Eric Vale (the English voice of Sanji) spoke with TV Insider about its new production pace, what Episode 1000 means to them, and the dub’s upcoming Gear 5 moment.

Spoilers for "Attack on Titan" follow.
If you watch anime dubs, you'll notice a lot of the same voices coming out of different characters' mouths across many different series. That's because many series are dubbed by the same studios, which employ the same stable of actors. One of the biggest dubbing studios is Funimation. Founded in 1994 by since-retired Gen Fukunaga and based in the Dallas, Texas metro area, the studio rose to fame by dubbing "Dragon Ball Z." The company has since been merged with and rebranded as Crunchyroll, but the talent remains largely the same.
Some voice actors you might hear over and over in Funimation/Crunchyroll dubs include Chris Sabat, Colleen Clinkenbeard, and Mike McFarland. The latter is a particularly important lynchpin of the studio since he's not just a voice actor, but also an Adr director, writer, and line producer.

An era will come to an end next month at Walt Disney World as the Florida theme park shuts down Splash Mountain and ramps up work on its replacement, Tiana’s Bayou Adventure.
Disney says Splash Mountain will send its last vessel down the flume on January 23, 2023. A final date for the attraction at Disneyland in Southern California will be set down the line. Tiana’s Bayou Adventure will open in late-2024, though an official date has not been announced.
Carmen Smith, SVP, Creative Development – Product/Content & Inclusive Strategies for Disney Parks, Experiences and Products, confirmed the plans in a blog post. The post also included new details and a “first look” image of the new attraction, which is based on 2009 Disney animated film The Princess and the Frog.

For 15 years, voice actor Colleen Clinkenbeard has shouted the catchphrase "Gum Gum!" as anime hero Monkey D. Luffy threw his stretchy punches. Sprung from Eiichiro Oda's enduring shōnen manga, the "One Piece" anime is still sailing after more than 20 rollicking seasons that add up to over a thousand episodes (plus several feature films). As Luffy's gruff, sandy English voice, Clinkenbeard fondly sails with him for his next adventure in "One Piece Film: Red," where Luffy's ambition to be King of the Pirates is in opposition of the interest of his childhood friend, Uta (Amanda Lee).
From "Fruit Basket" to "My Hero Academia," Clinkenbeard is a prolific voice actress of more than 300 roles in anime and video games. /Film spoke with her about what it means to be Luffy, directing Adr, Luffy's past, and the future of the voiceover industry.

"One Piece" is a sprawling franchise of nearly 25 years, kicking off with Eiichiro Oda's Weekly Shōnen Jump manga in July 1997 before getting a rollicking anime adaptation from Toei Animation. The manga series is known for breaking the World Guinness Record for most printed comic series by one author. "One Piece" follows the Straw Hat gang, lead by Monkey D. Luffy (Colleen Clinkenbeard), whose consumption of a Devil Fruit granted him awesome stretchy powers. Luffy is on a long quest to find the legendary One Piece treasure and claim the King of the Pirates throne.
Now "One Piece" is sailing toward its final arc just when you thought the voyage could go on forever in the endless sea. Commemorating the 1000th anime episode and sending signals of the end is another one of its theatrically released features, "One Piece Film: Red."

Splash Mountain will be transformed into Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, with the reconceived attraction set to open at Disneyland and Disney World in late 2024.
Carmen Smith, SVP, Creative Development – Product/Content & Inclusive Strategies for Disney, confirmed the plans in a blog post.
Disney had indicated in 2020 that it would overhaul the attraction in 2020, sharing the news as protests against racial injustice were roiling the country. Splash Mountain had been based on the Uncle Remus Br’er Rabbit story in the company’s controversial 1946 film Song of the South. As Smith’s post and an accompanying YouTube video took pains to note, the focus of Imagineers in this updated effort is to pay homage to the history and heritage of New Orleans.

Cate Blanchett has officially joined the cast of director Eli Roth’s movie adaptation of the Borderlands video game franchise.
According to a press release from Lionsgate, Blanchett has been cast as Lilith; “a siren and legendary thief equipped with magical skills.” Lilith initially appeared in Borderlands as a playable character, and subsequently appeared as an Npc in Borderlands 2, Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, and Borderlands 3. As a member of the Crimson Raiders, she’s fondly remembered by fans for her unique abilities and for the ways that voice actress Colleen Clinkenbeard has brought her to life across the major entries in the Borderlands franchises.
This is actually the second time that Blanchett and Roth have worked together. The actress previously starred in Roth’s somewhat surprising 2018’s children film, The House With a Clock in Its Walls. We somehow don’t imagine that Borderlands will also end up being a surprising children’s film.

“My Hero Academia” has officially Detroit Smashed into North American theaters.
Sony Pictures Television’s Funimation released “Heroes Rising” in the U.S. on Wednesday, grossing $2.5 million on its opening day. Theaters are showing the film, a standalone entry in the popular superhero anime based on the manga, with options for either subtitles or with an English dub.
Colleen Clinkenbeard has a lot to do with the latter. The voice actor, who plays Momo Yaoyorozu, is also the Adr (audio dialogue replacement) director for both the show and “Heroes Rising,” overseeing the process of dubbing over the Japanese version with an English-speaking cast. Clinkenbeard talked to Variety about staying authentic to the Japanese script in that process, balancing cultural differences and just how the cast protects their voice when doing all that screaming.

It’s amusing to note that Colleen Clinkenbeard was actually a stage actress before she was a voice actress. She was introduced to this profession by a fellow voice-actress and began her career in 2004. Since then she’s been kept very busy with the many different voice roles that she’s taken on, a great number of them being for anime throughout her career. She’s even been a big part of the Dragon Ball saga for a number of years. It’s interesting to think that some folks don’t tend to think much of voice actors since quite honestly they’re not in front

It looks as though fans will have to wait just one week longer to see Hideaki Anno’s Evangelion: 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance on Region 1 Blu-ray/DVD. The film was original dated for home release on March 29, but Amazon now lists a new date of April 5, 2011. But fans have waited this long for the film, and another week shouldn’t hurt much.
The site also lists Spike Spencer (Shinji Ikari), Colleen Clinkenbeard (Ritsuko Akagi), and Allison Keith-Shipp (Misato Katsuragi) as returning for the film. The will join already named voice actors for the new characters (here).

Most people who are familiar with anime (and many who aren’t) probably already know a thing or two about Dragon Ball, one of the most popular family of anime titles to ever grace our shores. But for those of you who don’t, a quick synopsis may be in order. A rough breakdown of the series would go something like:
Episode 1: Goku (charging energy fireball attack) Ka –
Episode 2: Me –
Episode 3: Ah –
Episode 4: Me –
Episode 5: (releases massive wave) Ahh!!!
Episode 6: Ahhhh!!!
Episode 7: Hhh!!!
Episode 8: !!!
Episode 9: Piccolo (sees approaching fireball) Oh crap –
Episode 10: (is hit) Yaaahh!!!
Episode 11: Ahhh!!!
Episode 12: Hhh!!! (end of season 1)
Seasoned fans will get the joke — Dragon Ball, while much beloved, is not exactly known for its breathtaking rate of plot development. Whole episodes, heck, whole Seasons go by as the characters punch, kick, taunt, charge...

This week, one of the greatest anime series of all time will be revisited. On Tuesday, November 17th, Funimation is scheduled to release Evangelion 1.01. Subtitled “You Are (Not) Alone”, this new chapter marks a major reversioning for the Neon Genesis Evangelion franchise.

It’s no accident that you are reading this column. In life there is no such thing as coincidence. There is only… inevitability…
I won’t even try to hide my enthusiasm for this series. If you remember my column on collecting anime swag, you know I own two XXXHOLiC wall scrolls — one autographed by Colleen Clinkenbeard, the voice of Yuko herself, along with a clock (also autographed), and a Yuko lapel pin. I made my own Watanuki/Doumeki cosplay, and there is a stuffed black Mokona plush over the TV. In other words, I’m a fan, and so you can imagine my excitement when Funimation released the entire series of XXXHOLiC as a boxed set.
XXXHOLiC, (pronounced “Holic”; the x’s are silent), tells the story of a boy named Watanuki, who has the curse of being able to see spirits. Wherever he goes, they are drawn to him.
