The Hanged Girl was initially shot, and released in some countries as The Haunting at Saint Joseph’s, something writer/director Jon Cohen should be used to as his 2009 exercise in torture porn, The 7th Hunt was retitled and rereleased in 2021 as The Hunt.
However, this is an entirely different type of film, opening in the 1800s during a smallpox epidemic. A young woman goes to a convent hoping to find help for her village. Instead, she’s hung as a witch, her spirit still said to haunt the area. Although I suspect it’s the sisters who are practising the dark arts as they have nylon rope a hundred or so years before it was invented.
In the present, Dr. Lily Khan is having a rough day. Not only did she have to deal...

Whether it’s using her lasso to get the truth out of her enemies or her gauntlets capable of trapping energy and using it to her advantage, Wonder Woman has some pretty cool abilities. And that’s not even getting into her crazy speed and jumping ability. While we may not have gotten her invisible jet, the other staples of Wonder Woman are all there, so join us on today’s DC Revisited as we dive into Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman.
While we may have finally received a Wonder Woman via Zack Snyder’s Batman v Superman, the project had actually been in development for quite some time. Comedy director Ivan Reitman was even attached to the film as a producer in 1996. Then in ’99, Jon Cohen was tapped by now-producer Joel Silver to write a Wonder Woman script. He was even eyeing Sandra Bullock to star in the title role.

Another beloved Japanese animation film is getting a live-action adaptation. Makoto Shinkai's breathtaking 2016 sci-fi anime film "Your Name" is getting the live-action treatment, with Paramount enlisting Academy Award-nominated filmmaker of "Raya and the Last Dragon," Carlos López Estrada, to helm it. The film is currently in development, with Estrada writing the script, following an initial draft from "Bird Box" writer Eric Heisserer.
"Your Name" is considered a modern classic in Japan and was a significant hit in the country, grossing over 230 million at the time of its release. The film is a love story for the ages, plus, it combines the concepts of magic, time travel, and the beauty of friendship all in one. Its animation style is visceral, making the idea of a live-action remake seem less than ideal, but with Estrada attached, we can expect good things.
Here's everything we know about the adaptation so far!

The found footage creature feature Cloverfield was a big hit for Paramount Pictures and Bad Robot Productions when it was released in 2008, so it’s no surprise that it kicked off a franchise. The only surprises are that it took eight years for a sequel to come along, and when Cloverfield did become a franchise it wasn’t with a direct sequel. The Cloverfield name was used to create an anthology series. 2016’s 10 Cloverfield Lane was quickly followed by 2018’s The Cloverfield Paradox… and now Deadline has broken the news that another Cloverfield movie is coming our way, with Under the Shadow‘s Babak Anvari signed on to direct.
Anvari will be working from a screenplay by iBoy writer Joe Barton… but, as you would expect from Bad Robot, details are being kept under wraps. It’s not clear if Anvari’s Cloverfield movie will be a sequel to the original film,...

The apocalyptic world of “Cloverfield” is expanding.
A yet-untitled sequel was announced by Paramount Pictures, as first reported by Deadline, with BAFTA winner Babak Anvari (“Under the Shadow”) set to direct. Screenwriter Joe Barton (“The Lazarus Project”) is penning the script.
Original “Cloverfield” director Matt Reeves, who went on to helm “The Batman,” is serving as an executive producer, with J.J. Abrams producing from Bad Robot, along with Hannah Minghella and Jon Cohen. Bryan Burk and “Cloverfield” screenwriter Drew Goddard will also executive produce.
The “Cloverfield” universe first started with Reeves’ 2008 fictional found-footage film about a monster attack in New York City. Mike Vogel, Lizzy Caplan, T.J. Miller, and Theo Rossi starred.
Eight years later, the 2016 film “10 Cloverfield Lane” marked Dan Trachtenberg’s feature directorial debut and starred Mary Elizabeth Winstead as a woman held captive by a conspiracy theorist, played by John Goodman. The film’s twist ending...

Bryan Burk, Matt Reeves and Drew Goddard will executive produce. Joe Barton, who penned the 2017 cult horror hit “The Ritual,” is set to write the script.
This next installment is currently in development at Paramount Pictures and will be the fourth chapter in the experimental sci-fi series. The first film, 2008’s “Cloverfield,” was a found footage alien invasion movie that became a sleeper hit. It’s now been nearly 15 years since the found footage film Cloverfield brought a giant monster into New York City, the 2008 film subsequently spawning a loosely connected universe of movies that has thus far included the excellent 10 Cloverfield Lane and the not-so-excellent The Cloverfield Paradox. And it seems another Cloverfield movie is now on the way!
Deadline reports today that Babak Anvari is directing a new Cloverfield movie for Paramount, with Joe Barton being hired to write the script.

Allison Janney is not f*cking around in Netflix‘s new Lou trailer. Tucked deep in the Pacific Northwest, a woman named Lou (Janney) is minding her own business with a loyal canine at her side. When a massive storm hits the area, the daughter of Lou’s neighbor (Jurnee Smollett) gets kidnapped. Terrified and needing someone with specific skills, the neighbor and Lou join forces to locate the child and bring her home safely. The Lou trailer mixes the urgency of Taken with the brutality of John Wick as Janney goes on the warpath, and I am all about it.
Reports indicate that Janney partnered with Daniel Bernhardt for Lou, the same fight choreographer who worked with Charlize Theron and Halle Barry in Atomic Blonde and John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, respectively. Of all the actors in recent months and years who have tried transforming into John Wick in punishing, stylized action movies, Allison Janney in her new film “Lou” may be the most surprising transformation yet.
Janney leads the Netflix action movie “Lou” that also stars Jurnee Smollett and Logan Marshall-Green and is produced by J.J. Abrams.
In the film, she plays a woman named Lou with a dangerous and mysterious past living in the tranquil Pacific Northwest and whose only companion (you guessed it John Wick fans) her dog. As a massive storm threatens to set in on the community, Lou’s neighbor (Smollett) begs her to help save her kidnapped daughter, unaware of Lou’s many secrets.

The still-to-be-titled docu-comedy special is described as a “semi-scripted road trip comedy” in which Chieng and his fellow comedian David Fung journey through a one-of-a-kind tour of America’s Chinatowns to promote local businesses, explore Asian American culture and push “each other to the limits of a brotherly love/hate relationship.” Chieng will not only star in this project, but he also serves as writer and executive producer. It will be produced in partnership with Fair Point. Producers for Fair Point are Jon Cohen, Jon Wolf and Adam Conover.
These projects continue Chieng’s relationship with the streaming giant after the success of his first stand-up special, “Asian Comedian Destroys America,” which launched in December 2019.

The film is set to diverge tonally from the director's previous work, including 2010's comedic short film The Game, which enjoyed a successful festival run last year.
