Legendary Academy Award-nominated screenwriter and playwright David Mamet said that his children aren’t nepo babies and that they have achieved their success due to their talent. His daughter Zosia Mamet is best known for starring on “Girls” alongside news anchor Brian Williams’ daughter Allison Williams, Bad Company drummer Simon Kirke’s daughter Jemima Kirke and creator Lena Dunham, daughter of a pair of New York City artists.
Promoting his memoir “Everywhere an Oink Oink” over the weekend at the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books, David conceded that his daughters — including Zosia’s sister Clara Mamet — learned from spending time on set with their father, according to the L.A. Times. He noted that he felt gratified by that.
Speaking particularly of the successful Zosia, Mamet argued that his daughters haven’t benefited from any form of privilege. “They earned it by merit,” he said.

In Ari Aster’s Beau is Afraid, Joaquin Phoenix plays a man on a quest of mythic proportions—to visit his feared mother, Mona. Aster withholds any sight of present-day Mona from the audience until the nearly three-hour A24 film’s climactic scenes, and to play her, he cast an actress with the charisma and presence to make it worth the wait, Patti LuPone.
LuPone, a three-time Tony winner best known who has appeared in the TV shows American Horror Story, Penny Dreadful and Pose, considers Mona her greatest screen role to date. The actress spoke with The Hollywood Reporter about crafting the memorable character together with Aster, what to expect from her upcoming performance as a Sicilian witch in Marvel’s WandaVision spinoff, and why she’ll never return to Broadway.

Redbox is releasing its first-ever “original” title this month: “Benjamin,” an R-rated dark comedy directed by and starring Bob Saget about a family dealing with a teen’s drug addiction.
The DVD-rental kiosk operator is calling Saget’s indie film a “Redbox Original.” What that means: Redbox has rights to an exclusive 90-day window on “Benjamin,” to be available starting April 23, both to rent at its network of U.S. kiosks and to rent or purchase through its Redbox On Demand streaming service.
In “Benjamin,” a family calls an intervention via Facebook for Saget’s on-screen son, Benjamin (Max Burkholder), a 15-year-old they suspect of having a drug habit. It soon becomes clear that those confronting Benjamin’s problems have many problems of their own.
In addition to Saget, the cast of “Benjamin” includes Rob Corddry, Mary Lynn Rajskub, Kevin Pollak, Peri Gilpin, Dave Foley, Cheri Oteri, Max Burkholder, Clara Mamet,...

So we have a bunch of teens, most of whom are stoners, some are goths, some are jocks; messing with ouija boards and thinking that satanic tourism is “cool”, who stumble into real satanic goings-on. Plus there’s a blink-or-you’ll-miss-it cameo from modern-day scream queen Devanny Pinn (Truth or Dare, House of Manson). That in a nutshell is Satanic.
As for an actual plot, the film sees four friends on their way to Coachella stop off in Los Angeles to tour true-crime Satanic Panic-era sites, only to find themselves interrupting an apparent human sacrifice. According to Satanic, Hell isn’t a place you visit. As screenwriter Anthony Jaswinski pens, Hell is described as a “beautiful confusion.” Yet after watching this devil-worshipping shitshow, I’ve come up with my own definition of Hell. It’s a horror movie where all the action happens off-camera, continuity means squat, and the budget costs less than four General Admission tickets to Coachella. That’s any horror fan’s true Hell, which I found myself living out for an hour-and-twenty-something minutes while director Jeffrey G. Hunt attempted to recreate a slice of La’s “Satanic Panic.”

The cast of Nicholas Stoller’s comedy sequel Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising continues to grow today, with The Hollywood Reporter revealing that both Clara Mamet and rapper Nora Lum have boarded the film.
Incidentally, the former is best known for her recurring role on ABC’s sitcom The Neighbors, while Nora Lum – commonly referred to by her rapper pseudonym, Awkwafina – is primed to make her feature film debt with Sorority Rising. Universal’s starry follow-up has been drafting in new cast members left, right and center in recent weeks, with the addition of Chloë Grace Moretz followed in quick succession by Selena Gomez. Each actress will reportedly star as eccentric members of rivalling sororities, which will no doubt throw up all kinds of trouble for Seth Rogen and Zac Efron’s returning characters.

It's time for the aliens to go home. ABC has cancelled The Neighbors after two seasons and 44 episodes.
A family sitcom, The Neighbors follows the Weaver clan as they try to live in a beautiful gated community that's filled with alien visitors from the planet Zabvron. The ensemble castmembers are Jami Gertz, Lenny Venito, Simon Templeman, Toks Olagundoye, Tim Jo, Clara Mamet, Ian Patrick, Isabella Cramp, and Max Charles.
After a first season of mediocre ratings, the series could have been cancelled last May. However, ABC decided to stick with it and scheduled it on Friday nights. Expectations on Fridays are lower but The Neighbors' ratings ended up being too low for a third season renewal.
Castmate Olagundoye tweeted the news, "Tweeps, I have known since last night, but was not able to share the news until it was announced publicly.

You might recognize Clara Mamet from her ABC show The Neighbors, which is about keeping up with the Joneses—if the Joneses were aliens. (Much like Keeping Up with the Kardashians, except Neighbors is scripted.) Or you might recognize her because she looks quite a bit like her sister Zosia Mamet, who plays Shoshanna on Girls. But soon, you may recognize her from movies as well. Mamet just wrote, directed and starred in her first film, Two-Bit Waltz, an autobiographical jaunt that features William H. Macy (Fargo), Rebecca Pigeon (Red), and...

Three little words, one big problem. On the Jan. 10 episode of ABC’s The Neighbors, Reggie (Tim Jo) devises a plan to get Amber (Clara Mamet) to finally drop the L-bomb, and HollywoodLife.com has your first look at his questionable methods.
Operating under the assumption that humans are more emotionally available when they’re completely petrified, Reggie plots to watch a horror movie with Amber, thus inspiring his desired confession. Clearly, he has learned very little about humans during his stay on earth.
Of course, getting Amber to confess her love is only part of Reggie’s problem on this week’s episode. When Jane (Megan Park) interrupts Reggie’s date with Amber, the extra-clueless extraterrestrial is forced to make a choice between the two ladies!

"Girls" star Zosia Mamet and her sister, "The Neighbors" star Clara Mamet, formed a band called The Cabin Sisters and tried to raise money via Kickstarter to make their first music video. They failed.
It's the latest celebrity black eye in the brave new world of Kickstarter, which successfully funded an upcoming "Veronica Mars" movie far beyond expectations and also raised a whole lotta dough for Zach Braff to make a follow-up to "Garden State."
Both the "Mars" project and especially the Braff movie drew controversy for asking fans to contribute money to a project without the prospect of any financial compensation in return. Instead, fans receive a few perks and the knowledge they've helped support something they believe in. It's kind of like PBS' pledge drives, and if people want to hand over their money, well ... that's their right.
Because there's also a downside for celebrities hoping to cash...

Girls star Zosia Mamet launched a Kickstarter campaign to help fund the music video for her band, The Cabin Sisters, with her half-sister Clara Mamet. The ladies hope that the video for "Bleak Love" raises $32,000, but as yet the cause has only pulled together $1,930 in a few days. Mamet's Bff Lena Dunham has even tried to drum up some interest via Twitter. She wrote, " Zosia is making a very un-Shosh like music video (with a little help from her friends)." Dunham later clarified her tweet by adding, "That's just to say, not sure about Kickstarter yet (though I do believe it can coexist w/charity) but am sure I love my friend and coworker!" Mamet isn't...

Like Zach Braff and the makers of "Veronica Mars" before her, Zosia Mamet has turned to Kickstarter in the hopes of raising money to get a passion project off the ground. But the internet hordes aren't reaching for their wallets with much enthusiasm. The "Girls" star and her half-sister, the actress Clara Mamet, started a campaign on the crowd-funding site on Tuesday with the hopes of raising $32,000 to produce a music video. So far, however, they have only amassed $1,615 from 41 backers in less than the time it took "Veronica...

Last summer, many people thought that The Neighbors sounded ridiculous and believed that it would be one of the first new shows to be cancelled. Well, shows like Last Resort and 666 Park Avenue have come and gone but The Neighbors lasted for a full season. But, will it be back for season two?

If you haven’t yet caught an episode of ABC‘s The Neighbors, tonight may be your night. It follows a family who has moved to the suburbs and discovers that all of the other inhabitants of their beautiful new little neighborhood are all from another planet. They have all taken human form and sports star names, and tend to dress completely alike. Kind of Stepford-y but in an absurdist, snarky way.
Because it’s an ABC (whose parent company is Disney) show, and because all of the aliens tend to act in over-the-top ways since they aren’t yet totally familiar with our human, and particularly American, ways, they have been given a musical episode with music by Alan Menken.
Not familiar with the name? Ever heard of Disney‘s The Little Mermaid? Beauty and the Beast? Aladdin? Pocahontas? The Hunchback of Notre Dame? Hercules? Enchanted? Tangled? All composed by Alan Menken.

This new sitcom, The Neighbors, has a such a silly premise that you can't help but shake your head. It seems destined to get slammed in the ratings and cancelled immediately. How did this show get a greenlight? It seems like such an obvious bomb. Is it possible that there's more to it than meets the eye?

ABC's newest sitcom, The Neighbors, must have the strangest premise of the season. Will the gamble be rewarded by big ratings? Will the TV series be quickly cancelled or will it be the surprise hit of the season?
The Neighbors revolves around a family that moves into a quiet gated area in New Jersey; Hidden Hills. They later learn that the other residents are all aliens from another planet. Strangely enough, the family decides that there's still a lot to like about their new community and neighbors.
The cast includes Lenny Venito, Jami Gertz, Clara Mamet, Max Charles, Isabella Cramp, Simon Templeman, Toks Olagundoye, Ian Patrick, and Tim Jo.
Before you give us your opinion of the show below, here are a few previews:...

Every new TV show is a gamble. That’s especially true in the crowded fall season, when the networks roll out an array of new shows. Many of them won’t make it to a second season – and even if they do, it takes years for a TV show to turn a profit. There are ways to mitigate the risk, of course. You cast a recognizable actor. You work with a successful producer – look, there’s Ryan Murphy doing his Ryan Murphy thing with The New Normal! And even in the modern era of DVR and downloading, a good timeslot is still essential.

It’s September, and you know what that means: It’s time to meet new shows in addition to reuniting with your returning favorites.
Each year, networks decide what shows to keep, move around and cancel, leaving open spots for a gaggle of new series. This month, many of the pilots for these shows will make their small screen debut. It may be overwhelming to be faced with 20 new shows this fall, so I’ll explain which programs did and didn’t make the cut for my DVR queue.
Here are my picks for the best new series of the fall TV season. (Note that this ranking did not take into account the mid-season premieres, even though there are some stand-out players in that arena.)
1) Nashville (ABC)

Ray Richmond contributes to Deadline’s TV coverage. What’s in a name? It turns out plenty, at least in the case of the new Wednesday night ABC comedy The Neighbors. Based on creator-exec producer Dan Fogelman’s dysfunctional New Jersey family, it stars Jami Gertz and has among its cast members a young actress named Clara Mamet. If the surname looks familiar, it should. Mamet is the daughter of famed playwright David Mamet and the sister of Zosia Mamet, a regular on the HBO comedy Girls. In the case of Zosia, there has been much grousing in the press over perceived nepotistic casting. But with regard to Clara, Fogelman maintained during a TCA panel this morning that no nepotism was involved — to an almost embarrassing degree. “We had no idea who Clara was when she came in and read for us”, he admitted. “We immediately put her on tape...

Terry O'Quinn as Gavin Doran in "666 Park Avenue" (ABC/Andrew Eccles)
ABC‘s slate of new shows for fall has a strange flavor to it, and it’s going to be a bumpy ride. The network has about as many new shows as returning ones (if you count all the midseasons), and a good percentage of the returning offerings are a year old or less, making this look a bit like a rebuilding year.
Not only is it a rebuilding year, but it’s the year of bringing back every actor and actress who ever had a decent run on a show before. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a network’s new season slate that was so crammed with people returning from something else. If you can’t make it good, I suppose, make sure viewers recognize the faces.
It’s tricky to get a solid feel...

Yesterday was ABC‘s turn for upfront presentations, which meant that yesterday morning the network released its fall schedule and more detailed information about its new 2012-2013 series. We’ve been watching the development of 666 Park Avenue starring Terry O’Quinn for some time now, and had been keeping an eye on the alien comedy The Neighbors, but we got a wonderful surprise today when we saw the full description of midseason (meaning 2013) series Zero Hour starring Anthony Edwards.
We had been told that he played a skeptic whose wife gets abducted, but happily, as we found today, he is a “confessed paranormal junkie” and that he will be running ”a breathless race against the clock to find his wife and save humanity.” Ooo, save humanity! It’s also said to be a DaVinci Code-type hunt with ancient clues. What sealed it for me was the trailer, which we have for you.

The Neighbors: First Look at ABC's New Alien Family Comedy
ABC seems to be putting an old spin on the family comedy with The Neighbors, a new series about a townhouse community that happens to be populated by very strange people.
Meet the Weaver family, headed by Debbie (Jami Gertz) and Marty (Lenny Venito). In hopes of providing a better life for his family, Marty managed to buy a home in Hidden Hills, a community in New Jersey.
But the Weavers soon realize that their neighbors aren’t exactly normal. All of them have strange pro-athlete names, like Reggie Jackson (Tim Jo), Jackie Joyner-Kersee (Toks Olagundoye), Dick Butkis (Ian Patrick) and Larry Bird (Simon Templeman). Their social skills are non-existent and, as the Weavers discover, they don’t eat, they receive nourishment through their eyes by reading books.
In other words, the Weavers’ neighbors are aliens from a planet called Zabvron.

As announced by Shonda Rhimes herself on Twitter just a short while ago, with just one episode remaining in its first season, Scandal has been picked up for a season number-two.
The uber producer/creator added that she’s “still waiting to hear” about the fate of Private Practice, but it's expected to return for a concluding 13 episodes.
ABC, meanwhile, has also given the green light to nine pilots, including one starring all-time TV Fanatic favorite, Connie Britton. The shows that will be included on the 2012-2013 schedule are:
Nashville: A country music-themed soap starring Britton as an industry veteran and Hayden Panettiere as a newcomer.
Zero Hour: Stars Anthony Edwards as a man at the center of a conspiracy after his wife is kidnapped.
Red Widow: Based on the widow (Radha Mitchell) of an assassinated criminal who takes over her late husband’s role in a crime syndicate...
