The Super Mario Bros. franchise is one of the major video games in history. Most of the games were massive hits, and if one series did franchising right, it is this one. Over the years, we have seen numerous adaptations and crossovers featuring Mario, including but not limited to animated series, live-action works, and video game crossovers. On top of that, many of the old games have been remastered and republished for the current consoles, and one of the recent examples is Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, which was remastered and slightly updated with new content for the Nintendo Switch and released on May 23, 2024 globally.
And while we wouldn’t really report on such re-releases, a major thing happened in the game, as a popular villain from the series has gone through a major change that finally and officially confirms their status within the fictional universe of the Super Mario Bros. franchise.

Universal Studio Group has greenlit a new live-action TV series based on “The Munsters” under the title “1313” as a horror comedy set within the ‘Universal Monsterverse’, from James Wan and Lindsey Anderson Beer:
The original 1960's sitcom depicting the home life of a family of Universal Studio monsters, was created by Allan Burns and Chris Hayward, starring Fred Gwynne as 'Herman Munster' and Yvonne De Carlo as his wife, 'Lily'.
The idea of a family of comical monsters was first suggested to Universal Studios in the late 1940's by animator Bob Clampett who wanted to produce a series of cartoons.
The project didn't see development until the early 1960's, when a treatment for a similar idea was submitted to Universal Studios by "Rocky & Bullwinkle" writers Burns and Hayward. This format was later handed to writers Norm Liebman and Ed Haas, who wrote the pilot script, "Love...

Think The Munsters, but way more grim.
UCP is developing 1313, which has been described as a horror series that plays on the Universal Monsterverse, aka a reimagining of the classic 1964-66 CBS sitcom The Munsters.
Lindsey Anderson Beer is set to showrun the drama. The project is being developed by James Wan, Beer and Ingrid Bisu for UCP. Atomic Monster and Lab Brew are the production companies.
Executive producers are Beer and Wan, Michael Clear, and Rob Hackett for Atomic Monster. Bisu is a co-exec producer.
The last time someone tried to dust off The Munsters for the small screen was in 2017, when NBC opted to reboot the comedy with Odd Mom Out creator Jill Kargman and Seth Meyers. The half-hour single-camera version was going to follow members of an offbeat family who are determined to stay true to themselves but struggle to fit in in hipster Brooklyn.

Oddly enough, Marilyn Monroe and Madonna became part of each other’s mythos — Monroe paved the way for Madonna, while Madonna made sure Monroe was still a big part of American popular culture. Madonna explained why she mimicked Monroe in the “Material Girl” music video. Interestingly, Monroe was not the only star from the 1950s and 1960s to inspire the “Like a Prayer” singer’s style.
‘Material Girl’ era Madonna said she was ‘attracted to’ aspects of Marilyn Monroe
The “Material Girl” music video is a recreation of Monroe singing “Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend” from the campy musical Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. According to the book Madonna: An Intimate Biography, Madonna explained her idea for the clip. “Marilyn was made into something not human in a way, and I can relate to that,” she said. “Her sexuality was something everyone was obsessed with, and that I can relate to.

Women constantly face the stigma of having their looks and personalities used to determine their capabilities. A girl’s life choices should be up to her, not the biases and demands of those around her. In a time where phrases like, “girl boss” and, “good for her” movies have become entwined in our cultural lexicon, ‘Legally Blonde’, a film released back in 2001, remains a beloved classic of female empowerment. ‘Legally Blonde’s Elle Woods (Reese Witherspoon) is surrounded by people who don’t take her at all seriously and instead perceive her as a beautiful, dumb, blonde. Conversely, Vivian Kensington (Selma Blair), Elle’s brunette and less blatantly feminine classmate is viewed as smart, respectable, and less attractive. Through these characters, the film emphasizes the absurdity of allowing a woman’s appearance to dictate our perception of her intelligence and value. Madonna and Marilyn Monroe would be compared to each other no matter what, simply because they are two of the biggest female celebrities ever. On the other hand, some fans claim that the similarity between the Material Girl and the Some Like It Hot star goes deeper than that. Madonna’s brother, Christopher Ciccone, had a different take on the situation.
Madonna’s brother said she’s not ‘self-destructive’ like Marilyn Monroe
Monroe’s influence can be seen throughout Madonna’s career. The “Like a Virgin” singer based her video for “Material Girl” on a scene from Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, one of Monroe’s most famous films. Monroe is also one of several Hollywood stars mentioned in the lyrics of “Vogue.” The cover of Madonna’s greatest hits album Celebration is also based on Monroe, and the singer appropriated a famous sequence from The Seven Year Itch for her “Give Me All Your Luvin'” clip.

Madonna‘s “Material Girl” music video helped her meet Sean Penn. It also caused fans to compare her to another famous blonde. The Queen of Pop’s brother said that Madonna’s fans drew false conclusions from that music video.

In his 2008 book Life With My Sister Madonna, Christopher Ciccone gave fans some fascinating insight into the “Material Girl” video shoot. “On the LA set of the ‘Material Girl’ video, as Madonna is sashaying down a staircase, decked out in a fuchsia satin replica of the Travilla gown Marilyn wore in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, she comes face-to-face with hot actor Sean Penn,” he wrote. “He is 24, she is 26, their birthdays are just one day apart, and — for both of them — it is love at first sight.

The premise of Sherwood Schwartz's '60s sitcom "Gilligan's Island" is laid out clearly in its theme song. Five passengers set sail on the S.S. Minnow with its captain and first mate, hoping to enjoy a three-hour tour of Hawaii. The ship hit rough weather, however, was dragged many miles off course, and washed up on the shores of an uncharted tropical island. The seven characters had to use their wits to survive, along with the contents of the inexplicably massive suitcases they all brought along. "Gilligan's Island" took place in a broad, slapstick universe, so any concerns of actual survival weren't addressed in any kind of meaningful way; Gilligan (Bob Denver) seemed to gain sustenance from energy-producing pratfalls.

If Jennifer Lawrence can do it, why can’t Sydney Sweeney? We’re talking about digging into the archives of luxury brands — many of which have Met Costume Institute-sized archives of looks from the past 70 years or so.
For Vanity Fair‘s 2024 post-Oscar party, Lawrence ditched the polka dot Dior couture she wore to the Academy Awards, changing to a 1996 cream Chantilly lace puff sleeve dress by Givenchy, a slightly more revealing Bridgerton-style gown. Recycling ’90s styles has been a hot trend for more than a moment, but now it’s reached fever pitch.

One of Marilyn Monroe’s most famous quotes was, “I don’t mind living in a man’s world as long as I can be a woman in it.”

Audrey Hepburn is the absolute definition of classic Hollywood. The star of beloved films such as "Roman Holiday" and the criminally underseen "Wait Until Dark," she became the embodiment of the term movie star for decades until her passing in 1993. Perhaps no single movie embodies the greatness of Hepburn more than 1961's "Breakfast at Tiffany's." Based on Truman Capote's novel of the same name, director Blake Edwards helped turn Hepburn's Holly Golightly into a cinematic icon. Yet, amazingly enough, it's a role that Hepburn very nearly passed on.
Speaking to The New York Times in 1960, the actress discussed her role as a New York City socialite who was looking to marry a rich man only to find herself smitten by a writer. In the interview, Hepburn, who was coming off of "The Nun's Story" and "The Unforgiven," explained that she didn't believe she was right for the part. It...

A Los Angeles City commission today voted to preserve the former Brentwood home of Marilyn Monroe and recommended it be designated a historic-cultural monument after it was almost demolished last year at the request of the property owner. That demolition was stayed after an L.A. City Coucil vote triggered a temporary stay on all building permits while the matter is under consideration by the Cultural Heritage Commission and City Council.

When Los Angeles voters head to the polls March 5 and again in the November general election, President Biden won’t have to sweat the results here and across the state. Nearly twice as many Californians are registered Democrat as they are Republican. In 2020, 71 percent of L.A. County voters picked Biden.
But Los Angeles remains popular for Democrats for reasons beyond ballot counting — it’s a fountain of campaign cash, much of it spouting from the entertainment industry. Consider that clutch of December fundraisers where co-hosts and attendees included such glossy names as Steven Spielberg, Shonda Rhimes, Jon Hamm and Barbra Streisand. The events may have taken place amid some grumbling over lagging poll numbers and questions about whether the octogenarian commander-in-chief can woo young voters, but ultimately the wallets opened wide. Media reports put the take from the soirees at about $15 million, a hefty part of the $97 million the campaign on Jan.

How do you make rowing look interesting? That’s one of the challenges George Clooney faced with The Boys in the Boat, the new film based on the Daniel James Brown book of the same name, starring Joel Edgerton among many others.
Ahead of the film’s Christmas Day release, the duo was kind enough to sit with The Film Stage to discuss the movie, how Clooney captured the speed of the rowing races on film, how Edgerton avoided (or leaned into) movie coaching clichés, and getting actors to learn how to row as well as Olympians.
The Film Stage: George, let me start by saying thank you for featuring Poughkeepsie so much in the movie. I’m from Poughkeepsie.
George Clooney: Are you a Poughkeepsie man?!
I am Poughkeepsie man! So the Poughkeepsie Regatta sequence was a thrill…
Clooney: You know we went there and they still have the train tracks.

An official YouTube channel dedicated to the classic sitcom The Munsters and the franchise it spawned was launched three years ago, and as the years have gone by a whole lot of clips from the 1964 – 1966 show have been added to that channel. But now Universal has decided to go ahead and share a couple full movies on there as well: The Munsters’ Revenge from 1981 and Here Come the Munsters from 1995. Not only can both of those movies be viewed on the The Munsters channel, but they’re both embedded at the bottom of this article as well!

Kim Kardashian brought us yet another incredible red carpet moment with her appearance at the 2023 Lacma Art+Film Gala.
The 43-year-old reality star and media mogul channeled the iconic Marilyn Monroe in a pink gown at the event on Saturday (November 4) at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art in Los Angeles.
It looks like Kim was emulating the pink dress that Marilyn wore in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, though she opted for black gloves instead of the matching pink ones. This obviously isn’t the first time that Kim has channeled the late iconic movie star after she previously wore her dress at the Met Gala.
At the event, Gucci introduced Gucci Ancora Notte, the first eveningwear collection designed by Sabato De Sarno, worn by top models inside the gala.

When Charlie Brooker's dystopian future series "Black Mirror" first launched in 2011, there were immediate comparisons made to Rod Serling's "The Twilight Zone." Not only in the sense that the series is a horror, sci-fi, and alternate-reality anthology show and therefore will be associated with the groundbreaking series regardless of quality but because it was the first show since "The Twilight Zone" to truly capture its sense of bleak, social satire. There is a lot of shared DNA between both shows, but "Black Mirror" has (until the latest season) always been a series attempting to depict a future that feels just a breath away from becoming reality, whereas "The Twilight Zone" tackled just about every time period imaginable. There are some episodes, like "White Bear," that feel like something that could have been written by Serling himself, while others pull obvious inspiration from some of the classic show's most memorable tales.

Jenna Ellis became the 4th co-defendant of four-time indicted former president Donald Trump to flip on him on Tuesday and, for Seth Meyers, it was the clearest indication that they all really learned from Trump’s book. They’re just making different kinds of deals.
Ellis pleaded guilty on Tuesday to one count of aiding and abetting false statements in the Georgia election interference case against Trump. Vowing to cooperate with Fulton County officials, Ellis avoided jail time for the felony, and instead was sentenced to five years of probation and ordered to pay $5,000 in restitution money.
“So I guess in the end, [Trump] did teach them all the art of the deal,” Meyers mocked on Tuesday night.
The NBC host was, of course, referring to the title of Trump’s book, first published in 1987.
Indeed, Ellis became the 4th co-defendant to turn on Trump, and the third of this week alone.

The '80s were a different time; shoulder pads were in, Reaganomics was taking over the country, and in 1984, a hyper-stylish show called "Miami Vice" was about to become all the rage. Before the Florida-set cop series ever premiered on NBC, though, it had already inspired another series, one that seemed to have very little in common with the Michael Mann-produced action show.
That series was "The Golden Girls," the popular and gut-bustingly funny sitcom about women of a certain age that has only become more beloved in the decades since it ended. "The Golden Girls" is remembered for its positive and honest conversations about aging and its characters' penchant for savage, hilarious quips. It also bolstered the fame of its already-famous stars, Bea Arthur ("Maude"), Betty White ("The Mary Tyler Moore Show"), Rue McClanahan (also "Maude"), and Estelle Getty ("Mask"). Marilyn Monroe’s estate has been saved by the City of Los Angeles.
Monroe, who purchased her only property in 1962, died at her Brentwood house at age 36 the same year. The house is a 2,624-square-foot Spanish-style four-bedroom home, which the “Seven Year Itch” actress bought for $77,500 following her divorce from playwright Arthur Miller in February 1962.
Monroe’s house was purchased by the Glory of the Snow LLC in 2017 for $7.25 million; a trust of the same name bought the property for $8.35 million in July 2023 and filed for a Department of Building and Safety demolition permit to tear it down.
According to the Los Angeles Times, the Los Angeles City Council intervened after the demolition permit was granted September 5. The Council meeting September 8 voted unanimously to suspend the permit and preserve the home.

When it comes to exploiting our deepest, darkest fears, nothing jangles the nerves more effectively than a well-made home invasion flick. We all want to believe we're safe once we lock the doors and windows, but unless you live in a fortress, you know that if someone really wanted to get in your house, they could do so with relative ease. Typically, we're worried about burglars, but we know vicious people exist. We've read Truman Capote's "In Cold Blood" and watched Michael Haneke's "Funny Games," and know, deep down in our hearts, once intruders cross the threshold, it's not going down like Kevin McCallister versus the Wet Bandits. Because anyone bold enough to break into a house is either desperate or disturbed, and this places us at a severe disadvantage.
No 21st-century film has exploited this to more terrifying effect than Bryan Bertino's "The Strangers." The premise...

Butch Patrick turns 70 today, but he still exhibits the same youthful exuberance he brought to The Munsters as Eddie Munster from 1964 to 1966. From child actor to the classic series’ de facto delegate, I had the pleasure of speaking with Patrick about his unconventional career, The Munsters‘ legacy, and more at NorthEast Comic Con’s Collectibles Extravaganza.
Patrick stumbled into acting. While accompanying his little sister to a print modeling shoot, the photographer asked to take his photo as well. “He took some pictures of me afterward, and he put one in his window. About a month later, a producer and a director were walking by. They were casting a movie, and they still needed the youngest son of Eddie Albert and Jane Wyatt. I wound up getting the movie. It was a great little B-movie called The Two Little Bears.”
He continues, “I went for an interview and got hired,...

When Joe Biden made a fundraising swing through Democratic donor strongholds in San Francisco, Chicago and New York last month, one city was noticeably absent from the list: Los Angeles.
The buzz in donor and political circles is that an L.A. visit is on hold. What was then a Writers Guild of America strike and, with SAG-AFTRA joining them, is now even more of a hotspot of labor strife.
Biden has called for writers to get a “fair deal they deserved” and, after the SAG-AFTRA strike was called, the White House made a similar statement, but sources say there are concerns of the president trekking to an event where he would be mired in the politics surrounding the labor impasse, or that he would be seen taking money from studio sources given his pro-union stance.
It’s unclear when Biden ultimately will schedule a Los Angeles visit, and some...

Holistay is the latest in an ever-growing list of AirBnB-themed horrors. From Creep Nation and Exit through Superhost and, of course, Barbarian there’s a plethora of films warning us to get a hotel room if we want to stay alive. Although considering how many horror films have been set in hotels, maybe we should just stay home,
Opening with a brief scene where two individuals whose faces we don’t see pull up to a house and do some half-assed cleaning then leave, Holistay then introduces us to an Irish couple Finn and Branna who are in San Diego, the film was actually shot in Los Vegas, on vacation.
They’ve barely gotten into their rental when Tony and Gia (Gabriela Kulaif; Kaka Nirvana) arrive from New York. There’s been a double booking.
