Dave is taking a break.
There are “no current plans” for a fourth season of the Fxx comedy as co-creator and star Dave Burd “presses pause” to focus on other things.
Burd, otherwise known as Lil Dicky, has long talked about his music career and wanting to record more albums. Penith, the soundtrack to Dave, featuring the single “Mr. McAdams,” was released last month.
“Making Dave has been and continues to be a dream come true,” he said. “But there are other creative ventures that I am dying to pursue as well. For the past 5 years, I’ve poured every fiber of my being into the show, and after three amazing seasons, this feels like a good time to press pause to give myself the bandwidth to do some of the other things I have always wanted to do. “Dave” has been renewed for Season 3 at FX.
The show, based on the rise of hip-hop star Lil Dicky, stars Dave Burd as himself, as well as GaTa, Andrew Santino, Taylor Misiak, Travis Bennett and Christine Ko.
The show’s second season debuted last summer on Fxx, focusing on the aftermath of Dave’s relationship with Ally (Misiak) and conflicts with his hype man and creative partner GaTa, whose real-life struggle with bipolar disorder is portrayed on screen.
Season 2 ended on a high note, with GaTa joining Lil Dicky on stage at the VMAs for a euphoric duet of the song “We Good.”
Burd told Variety that he cast GaTa as himself in part because their relationship is “borderline impossible to replicate,” and he was “extremely confident” GaTa would be able to nail the humor of the series.

Exclusive: Anna Akana (Jupiter’s Legacy), Alex Brightman (Beetlejuice), Ashley D. Kelley (Insatiable), Jay Klaitz (FBI) and Rory O’Malley (The Book of Mormon) are set as series regulars in NBC single-camera comedy pilot Hungry, starring and executive produced by Demi Lovato. The project comes from Sean Hayes and Todd Milliner’s Hazy Mills, Sb Projects and Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group.
Written and executive produced by Suzanne Martin, Hungry follows a group of friends who belong to a food-issues group helping one another as they look for love, success and the perfect thing in the fridge that’s going to make it all better.
Akana will play Wednesday, who looks exactly like what she is – a trophy wife. Sustaining that takes a lot of self-control, but she’s so in control that it’s actually out of control, and it’s driving her and her husband crazy.

When we last saw Dave — Aka Lil Dicky — at the end of Fxx’s “Dave” Season 1, he finally got a record deal and looked to be on the verge of real success – despite his own self-sabotaging tendencies. But it looks like self-sabotage might still be getting in the way of that success in the second season, as he’s is spending way too much time doing everything but recording is debut album. Including uh, spending too much time alone, if you catch our drift.
That all plays out in the trailer for “Dave” Season 2, which sees everyone in Dave’s life increasingly frustrated at his lack of followthrough. Watch the trailer above — and by the way, “Dave” Season 2 premieres June 14.
“I have a lot of other things going on, socially, professionally, borderline sexually,” Dave says. He’s also having real awkward conversations with Kareem Abdul-Jabbar about basketball during the 70s and 80s too.

Exclusive: It may be erroneous to call the melding of rapper Tablo, Scooter Braun’s Sb Projects, Emmy nominee Jason Kim and Amazon a K-pop supergroup. However, the quartet certainly are embracing the genre, if not the notion.
Under the first-look deal that the Justin Bieber and Demi Lovato manager has with the Jeff Bezos-founded streamer, the four have teamed up to develop Neon Machine, I learned.
Working with a predominately Korean producing team, the comedy series created by Barry producer/writer Kim tells the tale of an out-of-left-field K-pop superstar who hits a global chord but might lose it all in the process. Kim will executive produce along with Epik High leader Tablo and Sb’s Braun, James Shin and Scott Manson.
In addition to having high-profile content with Netflix, YouTube and 20th Century Studios, among others, Sb Projects inked a multi-year with Amazon Studios back in mid-...

Exclusive: Screenwriter Anthony McCarten and his Muse Of Fire Productions has teamed with Scooter Braun’s Sb Projects and producer/financier Compelling Pictures’ Denis O’Sullivan & Jeff Kalligheri for Phantom. That is the working title of a music-filled big scale contemporary psychological thriller film loosely inspired by the 1910 novel Le Fantome de L’Opera by Gaston Leroux.
Pic will be a psychological thriller in the vein of Black Swan and Misery, set in London’s contemporary music scene. Leroux’s depiction of a destructive relationship remains, as will a dark love story, but the movie intends to upend the romanticism associated with previous interpretations, and instead lean into the suspense and horror that was a big part of the book.
Scooter Braun and James Shin will produce for Sb Projects, McCarten for Muse of Fire and O’Sullivan and Kalligheri for Compelling Pictures, which will also finance. Sbp’s Scott Manson will be exec producer.
