Last year, designer Marc Jacobs was widely criticized for sending his models down the runway with multi-colored dreadlocks, which critics called appropriation of traditional black culture. Now, it seems Jacobs is in hot water once again.
At his SS18 show during Nyfw his models sported head wraps, historically worn by both African and African-American women. Shortly after the presentation, people on Instagram and Twitter expressed their dismay.

Barack Obama hasn’t even left office yet, and he’s already had more movies made about him than some presidents have in a lifetime (sorry John Tyler). First there was the rom-com Southside With You, where he was played by newcomer Parker Sawyers. Now fellow newcomer Devon Terrell is set to take on the role in the upcoming Netflix film Barry. We got a brief glimpse of Terrell in the film’s teaser trailer, but this full trailer offers a more extended look at Terrell’s take on Obama.
And it’s pretty good! Terrell is perhaps doing less of a direct impression than Sawyers, but he’s still clearly channeling the energy of the future 44th President of the United States. The film centers on Obama’s time at Columbia, where he transferred during his junior year in 1981. He was going by Barry at the time and ...

Daniel Day-Lewis is currently earning raves for his performance as a conflicted Abraham Lincoln in Steven Spielberg.s Lincoln, an Oscar contender that opens in limited release today (November 9th) before expanding nationwide on November 16th. But while Ddl.s performance is noteworthy, the fact that he.s playing our nation.s 16th president on screen isn.t as unique as one might have thought. A comprehensive infographic posted over on Slate tracks the number of times the U.S. presidents have been portrayed in movies (including direct-to-video releases, animated films and shorts). Wow. And according to their research, Ddl.s Lincoln portrayal is one of 130 total turns, making him the most-portrayed president in Hollywood history. Here.s the data. We.ll analyze it below: Time to star penning my big-screen biopics on John Tyler, James Buchanan and Warren G. Harding, as those poor leaders of our great nation never...

Steven Spielberg's Lincoln (2013?) is one of those movies that I always forget about due to its long long gestation period. I swear I've been hearing about it as long as Jodie Foster's Flora Plum or Jodie Foster's Leni Reifenstahl or a few of Terrence Malick's movies before they surfaced. Will it ever get made? Probably. This is Spielberg we're talking about and he's familiar with the green light. The biopic is now one small step closer to filming. Deadline reports that Sally Field is in as our seventeenth* First Lady Mary Todd Lincoln.
Spielberg says that Sally Field was always his first choice. I don't believe or disbelieve this exactly but I find it amusing that virtually every casting announcement for any movie (not specifically this one) comes with "they were our first choice all along" which simply can't be true 90% of the time we hear...

The relationships between rappers and presidents have always been tenuous at best. Or at least so we thought. This week, there have been two incidents that have united the worlds of hip-hop and presidential politics in ways that nobody really saw coming. Earlier this week, George W. Bush declared that the moment that Kanye West announced "George Bush doesn't care about black people" during a telethon was the lowest point of his presidency. West responded in typical fashion, saying that he related to Bush because they both have been under the same kind scrutiny.
Meanwhile, Bill Clinton tipped his hat to Lil Wayne earlier this week in anticipation of the Mc's release from Rikers Island. "This guy's smart. And he's got abilities," Clinton said. "And he's got a new chance now. And what I hope is that this is not just something to brand him as a cool guy, but...

Frederick, Maryland - It comes in the early hours of the morning, its arrival heralded by heavy footsteps on stairs. Who he is, many have guessed, but they do not know for sure, nor do they know his intentions. But what is certain, from witnesses to victims, is that he is very real ... and very frightening.
Whether he means to hurt anyone is unknown, but he appears just the same, prodding with long bony fingers anyone who has the audacity to stand in his home. Although he is dead, he still lingers, many believe, out of spite.
Homes are born for many reasons. In most cases, it is necessity. They are given the names of the families who built them, or at least those of their most prominent inhabitants. Other homes are given names that hearken back to the old country, titles that remind the visitors of the builder's country of origin.
