Late Night with the Devil is a horror movie directed by Cameron Cairnes and Colin Cairnes. It stars David Dastmalchian and Laura Gordon.
Straight from Australia comes this original film, shot on a shoestring budget, yet through creativity, it manages to yield impressive results. It may not be the movie of your lifetime, but it executes well with the limited resources at its disposal.
Plot
Unusual events occur during a Halloween night talk show, leaving viewers baffled.
About the Movie
Intriguing, to just the right extent. This film lasts the same duration as a late-night show, and during the commercial breaks, it reveals what happens behind the scenes, beyond the televised spectacle.
“Late Night with the Devil” is an original horror movie in which David Dastmalchian guides us through this spectacle that, outwardly, is an outright comedy. It’s amusing in terms of its time-loop element and evokes memories of...

It’s a slow weekend for theatrical releases but a great one for streaming debuts. The hottest title is a surefire Oscar candidate, and the others have become fan favorites with long shelf lives ahead.
The contender to watch this week: “Dune: Part Two“
Denis Villeneuve‘s first “Dune” won six of its 10 Oscar nominations, including Best Original Score and Best Visual Effects. His second, 2024’s highest-grossing movie to date, could show up in many of the same categories next year. Timothée Chalamet probably has a better shot at a nomination for the Bob Dylan biopic he’s currently shooting, and if Zendaya deserves recognition for anything, it’s “Challengers.” But even without acting contenders, “Dune: Part Two” could rank among next season’s biggest players. It’s still in theaters, but you can now ride the sandworm at home by renting or purchasing the film on VOD.

Sony Pictures Classics’ Wicked Little Letters grossed an estimated $1.5+ million in a big second week expansion for the R-rated British period comedy to 1,000 screens from five. The Thea Sharrock-directed film starring Olivia Colman (also a producer) and Jessie Buckley, no. 8 at the domestic weekend box office, has a $1.6+ million cume.
Colman and Buckley have been out actively promoting the film, based on an actual scandal, about a police investigation into the anonymous author of crude letters sent to the residents of a British seaside town.
The number is on the high end of SPC’s expectations, and the Sunday estimate may be conservative.
Audiences for Wicked Little Letters are 60% female, 40% male, with a range of women age 30-plus, unusual for a period film as they skew older. It’s playing especially well in major cities and college towns but also popping in smaller markets like Seattle. Word of mouths is terrific,...

IFC Films’ Late Night With The Devil topped the specialty market in its second week, as a Tollywood and a Bollywood film both made the top ten in a rare occurrence. Strong horror and Indian fare have helped buoy the box office since Covid. They continue to fill in the top ten, including this week, which boasts a monstrous hit in Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire — but is a neighborhood with fewer overall wide release due to Hollywood strikes.
Scary first: Late Night With The Devil by Australian duo Colin and Cameron Cairnes stars David Dastmalchian, perfection as a late 1970s talk show host whose quest for ratings on a Halloween night broadcast goes nowhere good, unleashing evil into the nation’s living rooms. It grossed $2.2 million on 1,442 screens in week two, for a cume of $6.2 million. The film is in the top ten again, at no. 7.

Late Night with the Devil is the latest horror film to grip the imagination of the masses. Starring David Dastmalchian as the protagonist, the film breathes life into a genre that has become a bit stagnant of late.
The premise is one of the more intriguing aspects of the film, and the cast does a fabulous job too. Most importantly, the story keeps one guessing, right until the credits roll. Even then, one question remains: what really happened to Jack’s wife?
What does Late Night with the Devil revolve around?
The film is helmed by the Australian brother duo, Colin and Cameron Cairnes. Since its premiere, the film has earned rave reviews and was one of the biggest hits at SXSW last year. Accolades have also poured in for David Dastmalchian, proving once again what a powerhouse of a performer he is.

Rating: 4.0/5.0
Ms. King portrayed Congresswoman Chisholm as she launches an impossible dream of running for the Democratic nomination for president in 1972. Behind Ms. Chisholm was her husband Conrad (Michael Cherrie), her advisors Arthur Hardwick (Terrence Howard) and Mac Holder (Lance Reddick), as well as colleagues Congressman Walter Fauntroy (André Holland) and future politico and congresswoman, Barbara Lee (Christina Jackson). Q&a’s are a staple of indie opening weekends since they tend to sell tickets but Bob and Jeanne Berney’s Picturehouse has raised that bar, offering audiences seven-minute live burlesque revues before selected screenings of documentary Carol Doda Topless At The Condor. The ode to the woman, and to 1960s San Francisco where she broke out topless, opens in limited release in New York, LA, San Francisco and San Rafael. Dancers in what Bob Berney called a “Doda-esqe burlesque” will not be topless,” he said — “but pretty close.”
Dancers start in the audience then move to the front of the theater against a specially designed backdrop of image and sound on screen. “It brings you into that world immediately. You are there before the film starts,” he said.
“Eventizing” a film is great if you can do it. The box office is much better but still a bit weird since Covid.

Late Night with the Devil is the most fun that I have had with a horror film in a hot minute. It really finds that space in the Venn diagram that encompasses popcorn horror, clever writing, and an innovative story. I love discovering movies like this. I would file Deadstream, The House of the Devil and Saint Maud on the same shelf. Not because they are similar in premise or tone, but more because of the experience I had watching them. It’s so fun to go into an indie horror film and discover something new. A story that hasn’t been told that isn’t part of a bigger franchise. I love higher budget, more mainstream horror, but it’s films like this that give us more of an opportunity to experience something unexpected. I love that.

One of the most acclaimed horror movies of the year opens this week: "Late Night with the Devil," a mockumentary from filmmakers Colin Cairnes and Cameron Cairnes, starring David Dastmalchian. Dastmalchian has built a solid career as a supporting character actor in films like "The Dark Knight," "Prisoners," and "Dune," but "Late Night with the Devil" gives him the chance to shine in a lead role. The actor plays Jack Delroy, host of the late-night 1970s "Tonight Show"-like talk show "Night Owls with Jack Delroy."
The film takes the form of footage from one of Jack's shows — specifically a show that aired on Halloween night in 1977. Desperate to improve his slipping ratings, Jack has put together a special episode where his guests include a parapsychologist (Laura Gordon) and her patient, a teenage girl named Lilly (Ingrid Torelli). Lilly is the only survivor of a suicidal satanic cult, and to make things extra disturbing,...

It’s 1977 and TV talk show host Jack Delroy’s (David Dastmalchian) career is on the skids. Desperate to remain relevant and snatch victory from the jaws of obscurity, Night Owls with Jack Delroy has planned a supernatural stunt to kickstart his comeback, but what Delroy hoped would be a harmless but entertaining spook show turns into something far more disturbing; and it all happens live and in lurid, living color. The directing duo of Colin and Cameron Cairnes present their newest feature, Late Night with the Devil, as a warts-and-all rebroadcast of that fateful...

Late Night With the Devil, the latest film from Cameron and Colin Cairnes, the team who made 100 Bloody Acres and Scare Campaign, opens with scenes of violence caught in the lens of the TV camera. As we watch, Michael Ironside tells us about America in the 1970s, and then segues into the career of radio man turned late night TV host Jack Delroy.
His show, the syndicated Night Owls, has run a close second to Johnny Carson’s The Tonight Show, but never managed to catch up to it in the ratings wars. And since the death of Jack’s wife Madeline his life and his ratings, seem to be in free fall. With sweeps week kicking off on Halloween Eve and his career on the line,...

"Late Night with the Devil" is one of the best horror movies you'll see this year — a clever, effective, and most of all scary mockumentary that recreates the era of '70s late-night talk shows with a nightmarish twist. What if a "Tonight Show" clone suddenly succumbed to demonic possession — live on the air? "Late Night with the Devil" has the answer, suggesting that a little hellfire can be good for ratings.
Written and directed by Colin Cairnes and Cameron Cairnes, "Late Night with the Devil" introduces us to Jack Delroy (played by a very committed David Dastmalchian), a wannabe Johnny Carson who hosts "Night Owls with Jack Delroy," a New York City-based late night variety and talk show struggling to stay afloat in the late-night ratings wars. It's Halloween night, and Jack has a special show planned, in which two of his guests are a parapsychologist (Laura Gordon) and her patient,...

A film that is truly transfixing from its very first frame to the moment its eerie end credits roll, Colin Cairnes and Cameron Cairnes' Late Night with the Devil was one of my favorite screenings at last year's Overlook Film Festival. Taking place during a late-night talk show one fateful (and frightful) Halloween in 1977, Late Night with the Devil features a powerfully poignant performance by the always-great David Dastmalchian, and ahead of the film's theatrical release on March 22nd via IFC Films and its April 19th streaming release on Shudder, we have a look at the movie's chilling trailer and fiery poster that warns you to "not adjust your set."
Synopsis: October 31, 1977. Johnny Carson rival Jack Delroy hosts a syndicated late night talk show ‘Night Owls’ that has long been a trusted companion to insomniacs around the country. A year after the tragic death of Jack’s wife, ratings have plummeted.

Directed by Australian filmmaking brothers Cameron and Colin Cairnes (100 Bloody Acres, Scare Campaign), Late Night With the Devil evokes the spirit and style of 1970s horror classics like The Exorcist and Rosemary’s Baby. Up next from Australian writing-directing team Colin and Cameron Cairnes (100 Bloody Acres, Scare Campaign) is found footage horror Late Night With the Devil, with David Dastmalchian (Dune, The Suicide Squad) starring as the host of a late-night talk show that descends into a nightmare. Australian siblings and directing duo Colin and Cameron Cairnes have earned a following on the cult horror circuit with their first two features: the low-budget horror comedy 100 Bloody Acres (which won the Midnight X-treme award at the 2013 Sitges Film Festival) and 2016’s Scare Campaign, a gruesome twist on the slasher genre.
Their follow-up, Late Night With The Devil, is framed as a found-footage film about a 1977 live broadcast of a late-night talk show where the host — the Johnny Carson also-ran Jack Delroy (played by David Dastmalchian of Suicide Squad and Oppenheimer fame) — decides to go big for a Halloween night edition during sweeps week with a guest who claims to commune with the devil.
The Cairnes’ mash up themes of 1970s horror classics with the media satires of the era, such as Network and The King of Comedy, to create a thrill ride that won over Stephen King – “absolutely brilliant.
