Universal’s Dracula comedy Renfield (read our review Here), starring Nicolas Cage as Dracula and Nicholas Hoult as his titular lackey, was a box office disaster, pulling in just $25 million worldwide… which is a shame, because the movie is a lot of fun. Maybe it will reach more of an audience when it receives a digital, Blu-ray, and DVD release on June 6th – and Universal is doing their best to make sure viewers will check it out, giving it a “Dracula Sucks Edition” release that will be packed with extras!
Based on a treatment written by The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman, Renfield was directed by Chris McKay (The Tomorrow War) from a screenplay by Ryan Ridley (Rick and Morty). In Bram Stoker’s novel Dracula, R.M. Renfield was an inmate at a lunatic asylum who was thought to be suffering from delusions but actually is a servant of Dracula.

Renfield is a horror comedy directed by Chris McKay, starring Nicholas Hoult, Awkwafina, Ben Schwartz and Nicolas Cage.
Di you love Nicolas Cage when you were kids? Were you one of those who had a poster of him in your room because he was so awesome, but deep inside you thought he would never win an Oscar? You were wrong, just like I was wrong about Renfield thinking it was doomed to be a bad movie.
Not at all. It’s not excellent, but it’s hilarious, full of fights, special effects and it knows how to take nothing seriously, just like good old Nicolas Cage does with his career.
Some hilarious action-packed cinematic monkeyshines.

Universal’s Dracula comedy Renfield (read our review Here), starring Nicolas Cage as Dracula and Nicholas Hoult as his titular lackey, didn’t light up the box office when it reached theatres last weekend. So far it has only pulled in just over $12 million… and those are the worldwide numbers. So there probably aren’t a whole lot of you who have seen the movie to know that the dance sequence Hoult shared on social media last Friday is a deleted scene… but trust us, the dance sequence isn’t in the movie. Here it is online:

Universal’s Dracula comedy Renfield, starring Nicolas Cage as Dracula and Nicholas Hoult as his titular lackey, is set to reach theatres next week, on April 14th, and while the primary draw is the chance to see Cage play Dracula, the movie also includes a couple special treats for fans of the horror genre. Among the cast members are Caroline Williams, best known for playing the heroine Stretch in 1986’s The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2, and William Ragsdale, who previously crossed paths with vampires in 1985’s Fright Night and the 1988 sequel Fright Night Part 2. Williams is playing a character named Vanessa, while Ragsdale takes on the role of Older Priest. We’re just three months away from the April 14th theatrical release of Universal’s horror comedy Dracula movie Renfield, which stars Nicholas Hoult as the title character and Nicolas Cage as his bloodsucking boss. It’s about time for Universal to start up the marketing machine for their horror comedy Dracula movie Renfield, which stars Nicholas Hoult as the title character and Nicolas Cage as his bloodsucking boss. The movie’s April 14, 2023 theatrical release date is not far away. But while we wait to see a trailer for this movie, there have been some interesting things said about it in interviews… like Cage’s list of things that have inspired his performance. He has said that his Dracula voice is meant to sound like a mixture of a Mid-Atlantic accent with some Sir Christopher Lee and a bit of Anne Bancroft. He has also said that some of his movements as the character were inspired by Sadako from Ringu. And now he has said that he was going for a sort of Andy Warhol pop art Dracula performance.

A few weeks ago, director Chris McKay (The Tomorrow War) let the world know that his upcoming Universal Monsters movie Renfield, which stars the legendary Nicolas Cage as horror icon Dracula and is set to reach theatres on April 14, 2023, has “got action, it’s got a lot of heart, it’s not without menace…” And now the ratings board at the Motion Picture Association has added that the film has “bloody violence, some gore, language throughout, and some drug use.” That is why they have given it an R rating.

Little is known about this movie as it is still in production. We do know it is a comedy horror film that extracts one of the ancillary characters in Bram Stoker‘s 1987 Gothic horror novel ‘Dracula’. Yes, Renfield is the Count’s worshiping and deranged servant. In Stoker’s novel Renfield is sent to an asylum and treated by Dr. John Seward, who describes him thusly:

The film’s director Chris McKay (The Tomorrow War) has reiterated that Anne Bancroft was a source of inspiration in a new interview with Empire magazine (with thanks to Syfy Wire for the transcription). McKay told Empire that he and Cage “talked a lot about silent acting. Things like The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, making shapes with his body. You’re gonna see allusions to Nosferatu, all the way to Anne Bancroft in The Graduate.” McKay said that this modern story, which presents Dracula as a “shitty boss” to the titular character, is “far away from what you would typically think...

Exclusive: James Moses Black is the latest addition to the cast of Renfield, the Universal monster movie from director Chris McKay.
He joins an ensemble that includes Nicholas Hoult, Nicolas Cage, Awkwafina, Ben Schwartz, Adrian Martinez, Shohreh Aghdashloo and Bess Rouss, as previously announced.
The film based on an original story outline by Robert Kirkman centers on Renfield (Hoult), who has grown sick and tired of his centuries as Dracula’s (Cage) lackey. The henchman finds a new lease on life and maybe even redemption when he falls for feisty, perennially angry traffic cop Rebecca Quincy (Awkwafina).
Ryan Ridley wrote the script. McKay is producing the film shooting in New Orleans with Skybound Entertainment’s film team, including Kirkman, David Alpert, Bryan Furst and Sean Furst. His producing partner Samantha Nisenboim is serving as executive producer.

Are you ready for another “shoot-’em-up”, action-packed police thriller? Since you’re making a beeline to the multiplex I can safely assume the answer is “Yes”. Whoa now, hold up a bit. Since we’re now well past Labor Day, it’s probably not another slice of pure escapist destruction. Oh yes, this has a “message”, so you’ll have to eat your beets before dessert. This story is set in a world that’s (here comes an old ad line) “ripped from today’s headlines” (if everyone is still devouring newsprint). It’s hitting all the “hot buttons”, especially the three distinctions of race, class, and gender. That’s mainly because of the film’s main focus is an African-American rookie policewoman who faces near-impossible challenges because she’s both Black And Blue.
Her struggles begin bright and early on the streets of modern-day New Orleans. Alicia West...

It’s kind of funny that, just a few years ago, Frank Grillo was in “The Purge: Anarchy,” in which he struggled to survive the night against morally corrupt civilians with a 12-hour license to kill, and now he’s playing a cop tripping off a limitless authority to murder in “Black and Blue.” It’s this same professional-pedestrian throughline to violence that is a major theme in this prosaic police drama from director Deon Taylor (“The Intruder”).
Corrupt cop narratives aren’t exactly fresh on screen, and Taylor’s film doesn’t shy away from blatant callbacks to other more innovative entries in the genre. For instance, composer Geoff Zanelli (“Traffik”) uses a piece that recalls the thunderous “Sicario” score, while Taylor and screenwriter Peter A. Dowling (“Flightplan”) borrow from the classic bloody bathtub scene from “Training Day.”
But Taylor tries to do the now-inevitable filmmaker exercise of infusing...

She teams up with a local known as "Mouse", played by Tyrese Gibson, in hopes of surviving and getting the truth out. Also starring Frank Grillo, Mike Colter, Reid Scott, Beau Knapp, Nafessa Williams, and James Moses Black. This gets intense fast! Definitely not a casual drama, way more of a gripping thriller. "I'm starting this crew... And I'd love for you to be in it." Shout Factory + Showtime have debuted a trailer for the film All Styles, a feature dance drama starring "So You Think You Can Dance: Season 10" winner Du-Shaunt "Fik-Shun" Stegall in his first major acting role. "Fik-Shun" plays a talented hip-hop dancer from Las Vegas named Brandon, who is heading off to college. He decides to put together a ragtag crew of dancers, featuring all different style (hence the title), to compete in a competition against his former friends. This also stars Keon Motakhaveri, Tetona Jackson, James Moses Black, Heather Morris, Erica Klein, Hokuto "Hok" Konishi, Taylor Pierce, and Raymond "Nasty Ray" Mora. This concept isn't that original, films like School of Rock have played on the "different styles" for a competition concept, but it does look fresh and fun. And it's obviously meant to inspire more people to follow their dreams of dancing.

"Deranged human beings doing awful things." IFC Midnight has revealed a trailer for a film titled 68 Kill, a crime comedy from actor/director Trent Haaga. The quotes in this trailer seem to describe it better than anything else: "a white-trash, punk-rock, blood-soaked romp" and "brilliantly, utterly insane." The film stars Matthew Gray Gubler as Chip, and AnnaLynne McCord as his girlfriend, who comes up with a plan to rip off her rich sugar daddy. Of course, everything falls apart and Chip tries to straighten things out but ends up on a wild ride. The cast includes Alisha Boe, Sheila Vand, Sam Eidson, Michael Beasley, James Moses Black, David Maldonado, Ajay Mehta, Hallie Grace Bradley, and Lucy Faust. This definitely looks insane, like something to watch late on a weekend after you've had a few beers with friends. Here's the official trailer (+ two posters) for Trent Haaga's 68 Kill, direct from...
