Kassandra Lee Diaz has nabbed the lead role in Byron Manuel’s thriller and feature directorial debut Swoon.
Diaz plays a woman tied to a bed while her captor manipulates her into believing they are engaged. The mysterious men in her life are played by Rich Morrow and DeRon Cash, while Efrangeliz Medina, Dean Wil, Herbert Morales and Del Harrison round out the ensemble.
Diaz also starred in Trifecta, which was co-created and directed by Manuel. Her other credits include playing Hope on the You Married Dat comedy, a three-episode arc on Cuddle Season and appearing in the Evette Vargas-directed short film Confessions.
“I was heavily inspired by the human desire of how we are obsessed with both love, and the feeling of being in suspense. Developing Swoon allowed me to explore both in their own warped way, as well as taking my love of Stephen King’s thrillers...

The notion of David Arquette starring in a horror movie about a “possessed” rock band promises so much trashy fun, a certain amount of disappointment seems almost inevitable. Yet “High Voltage” confounds expectations by being very little fun at all. Short on thrills and energy despite its title, this slick yet sluggish feature often seems barely interested in the horror elements that are, after all, what will primarily lure viewers in.
Instead, the genre hook comes off as more of a Trojan Horse with which to smuggle in a showcase for “Hollow Body”, the onscreen vehicle for writer-director Alex Keledjian’s songwriting and costar Allie Gonino’s singing. It’s an awkward, compromising combination that ultimately provides little satisfaction on any level — unless you’re content to watch Gonino model a series of increasingly over-the-top, midriff-baring “sexy rock chick” fashions.

Lots of films are dedicated to, or in memory of someone. But it's not always clear why. We've been finding out...
Back when Breaking Bad returned for its final batch of episodes in August 2013, it had a dedication at the end of it. The card read 'Dedicated to our friend Kevin Cordasco'. As it turned out, Kevin Cordasco was a 16-year old who had been battling cancer for seven years, who had met both Bryan Cranston and Vince Gilligan. Cordasco died before he could ever get to see the episode dedicated to him.
I found this such a moving story, that it got me wondering about the dedications that appear on films, and what the story behind them was. After all, the dedications are there for a reason. What I uncovered was some funny stories, mainly extremely sad ones, and some extremely moving dedications.

Just a few weeks ago, Dread Central had the privilege of hosting the online premiere of Christian Ackerman's horror comedy short Hell's Belles which follows two badass chicks that are called upon to battle a demonic entity that has captured a young girl and is holding her as his prisoner.
Starring Ariel Teal Toombs, Mayra Rodriguez, Trista Robinson, Bonjah and James Cavlo, Hell's Belles was also written by Ackerman and produced by Drina Durazo. For Indie Horror Month 2013, we recently caught up with Ackerman to hear more about his latest short film as well as more on his plans to develop Hell's Belles into a feature film project and more. Check out all the highlights from our interview below!
Dread Central: So what inspired you to write this story about these two female badasses that deal with demonic forces?

Chicago – A few times every year, a box set comes into our office that simply feels beyond review. What is there to say about something as notable as the “Alien Quadrilogy” with its five days worth of special features or the gorgeous set for the “Back to the Future” movies? They’re must-owns that are beyond any minor criticism. Such is also the case with Warner Bros.’ recently-released set for the extended editions of Peter Jackson’s “The Lord of the Rings” films. If you own a Blu-ray player, it’s incomplete without this box set. It’s that simple.
Blu-Ray Rating: 5.0/5.0
Is there any room for criticism with Fifteen Discs of material? Well, the only thing that might raise an eyebrow is that 60% of those discs aren’t actually Blu-ray discs. The supplemental material for each film is included in standard DVD form. Of course, it’s the films...

The Lord of the Rings Motion Picture Trilogy: Extended Edition has finally come to Blu-Ray, and in true "My Precious" fashion, this is the collection to own. For those who have already seen the extended editions of the films, you know that they add a new level to the already incredible series. For those who haven't, put together you're adding two additional hours of runtime. That's a pretty significant bonus right there, and that time includes some key moments from the trilogy that many fans were looking for.
The 15-Disc set includes more than 26 hours of bonuses, including four commentary tracks for each film (Director & Writers, Design Team, Production & Post-Production, and Cast), and the truly incredible Costa Botes behind-the-scenes documentaries. These are no ordinary behind-the-scenes features, and cover every aspect of the process with amazing footage.
Each film comes with five discs, two Blu-Rays of the film, and three standard discs filled with bonus features.

The Lord of the Rings Motion Picture Trilogy: Extended Editions Blu-ray set could also be called the Ultimate Editions as I’ve really never seen or owned a set more complete than this! Warner Brothers has put together the complete package for director Peter Jackson’s Academy Award winning trilogy based on J. R.R. Tolkien’s beloved stories.
What this Extended Edition Blu-ray set gives us is more than 26 hours of special features. Yeah that’s a lot aint it! You’ll spend a lot of time enjoying what has been included here with this set. We get the trilogy on Blu-ray with many scenes that will be new to you and it’s enough that’ you’ll notice them too. As a way to build awareness for the upcoming Blu-ray release for the Lord of the Rings: Extended Editions, Warner Bros. will be theatrically releasing the extended editions into AMC Theaters this June. TheOneRing reports that The Fellowship of the Ring: Extended Edition will open June 14th, The Two Towers: Extended Edition will open June 21st, and The Return of the King: Extended Edition will hit on June 28th, the same day that Blu-ray trilogy of the extended editions hits stores. Now the real question is whether or not these films will feature intermissions or if the hardcore Lotr fans will happily sit through a four-hour feature. I’m betting on the latter.
Hit the jump for a list of special features included on the upcoming The Lord of the Rings: Limited Extended Edition Blu-ray. The 15-disc set has an Srp of $119.98.

We won’t have to wait too long for The Lord of the Rings Extended Editions to hit Blu-ray afterall. Although Amazon earlier said they would be available in 2011 or 2012,” Warner Home Video has set their release for June 28.
The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King
As we reported earlier this month, the extended versions of Peter Jackson’s three Oscar-winning films based on the books by J.R.R. Tolkien will come to high-definition Blu-ray only in a The Lord of the Rings Motion Picture Trilogy: Extended Edition set. It will contain 15 discs with the fantasy movies plus more than 26 hours of special features. The movies will be on Blu-ray, but many of the special features will be in standard-definition DVD, so they’re probably the same discs out of the Extended Edition DVD sets.

Fans rejoiced when it was announced [1] that The Lord of the Rings Trilogy would be coming to Blu-ray. When we realized it was only the theatrical editions, the wind went out of those sails [2] pretty quickly. Well it took a while but it seems that Warner Brothers and New Line are finally preparing to release [3] Peter Jackson's Extended Editions of The Lord of the Rings Trilogy on Blu-ray. Amazon has begun to take pre-orders for the set and have revealed a photo of the box art along with the full details, which seem to be almost identical to the original DVD releases. Unfortunately, Amazon only list the release date as "2011 or 2012." and Warner Home Video "hasn't announced their release details yet." Still, these are on the way. Check out all the information after the break. Thanks to Bleeding Cool [4] for the heads up from the information over at Amazon...

Praise be! At long last, fans of the Peter Jackson's Extended Edition cuts of the Lord of the Rings trilogy can rejoice, for details on the blu-ray set have been announced, and are available for pre-order from Amazon.
So the details and listing just dropped onto Amazon and it's all pretty exciting. For me, these are the definitive versions of the films, and about the only way I'll watch them. It's the main reason I haven't purchased the theatrical versions on blu-ray...I've been holding out for these versions.
The sad news, is that there still isn't a firm release date attached to them. Amazon seems pretty vague in stating that they'll drop sometime in 2011/2012. So I would consider this either a holiday release for this year, or sometime within the first couple months of 2012. I don't see it slipping much further back than that.
So you want to...

We’ve been expecting this announcement since word first leaked almost two months ago and although there’s still no firm release date (Christmas probably?) we can now officially pre-order The Lord of the Rings Blu-ray: The Extended Editions.
Amazon U.S. have set the pre-order price at $83.99, which is down from the Rrp of $119.98 – and what you get for your money is the Entire Extended Edition upgraded to 1080p, with the extras, appendices, etc included – plus the documentaries from the latterly released Special Edition. Perfect!
No word on U.K. price just yet but as soon as I hear it, I will let you know. Man, with those Star Wars Blu’s coming later this year and now Lotr: Extended, I’m officially out of my Blu-ray allowance by March and all I’ve done is pre-order!

Eagle eyed Brendon at BleedingCool has spotted that Amazon Us now have Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings Extednded Edition trilogy on Blu-ray available to pre-order. The box set will set you back $83.99 (£51.44) and you can pre-order it here if you live in the good old Us of A. Alas no details are on the UK website so no pre-ordering yet I’m afraid UK readers. There’s also no release date on the Us Amazon as yet but we’ll keep our eyes peeled as to when we might be able to actually get hold of a copy but just seeing on the site is progress.
The website does however give us details of what we can expect on the extended edition Blu-ray set and it looks like if you’re a fan of all things, Lotr, then this is a boxset that you won’t want to be without.

“The idea came to me a few years ago when I began writing a feature horror/comedy around a young female who drives a hearse,” writer, producer, and director Chris Ackerman told Dread last Saturday night on the set of his then-shooting short film Hell’s Belles. “The main character, ‘Adria Blackmoor’, lives a sheltered life as a morgue technician at her grandfather’s cemetery when unfortunately the gates of hell open, and she’s forced to battle a strange assortment of creatures to save her town.”
Hollywood being Hollywood, however, burgeoning filmmakers are keenly aware of the distinct lack of imagination most suits have during the pitching process (a manuscript seldom cuts it any longer in communicating one’s vision), so Ackerman, who previously served as an associate producer on Yossi Sasson’s 2008 horror feature Dead and Gone, took it upon himself to helm a shortened version of his script,...

HollywoodNews.com: The International Cinematographers Guild has announced the honorees for its 14th annual Emerging Cinematographers Awards. The International Cinematographers Guild presented its newly rebranded Emerging Cinematographer Awards Sunday at the DGA theatre. Several hundred attended the presentation and reception.
This year's honorees are: Brian O'Carroll (for the film Cherry Bloom), Christopher Johnson (Common Practice), Darren Genet (The Death Strip), Tim Bellen (Ed Meets His Maker), Michael Alba (History For Kids), Hilda Mercado (La Primavera), Jozo Zovko (The Morning Fog) and Cameron Duncan (Year of the Dog).
"Cinematography at its best can transport us into a different time and place, even into the beginning of being a different person," said ICG president Steven Poster during his welcome remarks.
"This event is something that (past ICG president) George Spiro Dibie started many years ago and that (event chair) Rob Kositchek, Jr. has been involved in from the beginning," he said of the annual presentation, now in its 11th year, which was previously branded as a Filmmakers Showcase.
"We are growing", Poster added. "We are getting more influential. We are bringing more people in. We are helping more people get started."
The 2007 recipients were selected through judging panels consisting of cinematographers, camera operators and assistants based in the Midwest and the East and West Coasts.
