Richard Shepard, writer/director of the Netflix-released horror film The Perfection (read our review Here), and his co-writers Eric Charmelo and Nicole Snyder are teaming up again to develop a supernatural mystery called St. Donatus for the Peacock streaming service, Deadline reports. Charmelo and Snyder have written the script for the St. Donatus pilot, and Shepard will be directing it. The story is set in a small town in Iowa… a small town that, of course, hides a dark secret.
An unwitting family, relocating from Brooklyn, moved into a newly-renovated farmhouse on the outskirts of town. When the family starts experiencing unsettling occurrences, it brings them closer to the town’s secret… and the very thing trapped in their cellar.
St. Donatus is coming to us from Universal TV. Shepard, Charmelo, and Snyder will be executive producing the show alongside Sean Hayes and Todd Milliner of Hazy Mills. Yes,...

It’s punishment more than practice that makes “The Perfection,” which is less a horror film per se than a grisly yet upscale grand guignol melodrama. Richard Shepard’s very tricky suspense film, co-written with the TV writing-producing team of Eric Charmelo and Nicole Snyder, has been a success for Netflix. The streaming service released the film earlier this year, picking it up after it made a stir at Fantastic Fest 2018.
The tale of classical musicianship and elaborate revenge is easier to admire than actually like, given somewhat repellent content grounded in character psychology that does not bear close scrutiny after these terse 90 minutes are over. Still, the icily well-crafted gamesmanship Shepard and company have devised certainly makes that time pass quickly, if uncomfortably.
The director has turned mostly to small-screen work since his last theatrical feature, “Dom Hemingway” (2013), including a dozen episodes of “Girls,” whose Allison Williams plays the lead here.

The one-hour drama is based on Alice Feeney’s novel of the same name and centers on Amber Reynolds (Gellar), who is in a coma and, according to the logline, “she can’t remember how she got there, but she knows it wasn’t an accident.”
“Terrified and trapped in her own body, she tries to piece together her memories of the last week,” the description says. “With a husband who no longer loves her, a sister hiding a dangerous secret, and an ex-boyfriend who can’t let go of her, Amber knows someone is lying – and that her life is still very much in danger. Alternating between her paralyzed present, the week before her accident,...

Buffy's got a new gig. Sarah Michelle Gellar is starring in and executive producing a potential new series, and based on the description, we're going to need it in front of our eyeballs immediately. The show, currently in development at Fox, is an adaptation of the book Other People's Houses by Abbi Waxman, and it's created by Ringer creators Eric Charmelo and Nicole Snyder. Sarah Michelle Gellar might be returning to the small screen on a more permanent basis.
The in-demand actress has been added to the cast of Other People's Houses, a new drama series which is in development at Fox, reports THR.
Even more exciting is that the project comes from Ringer creators Eric Charmelo and Nicole Snyder -- a series which Gellar starred in over on The CW from 2011-12.
That show was canceled way too soon. It was a neo-noir murder mystery with more twists and turns than viewers could handle.

Warning: Massive spoilers for The Perfection ahead!
Netflix's latest thriller has taken audiences by surprise. The Perfection, a violent and shocking revenge thriller, combines body horror with a psychological revenge scheme to produce a deeply disturbing horror movie. And we're not exaggerating: it's disturbing, shocking, and completely bonkers. We're breaking down the details of the movie - and all its creepy twists.
Directed and cowritten by Richard Shepard (with cowriters Nicole Snyder and Eric C. Charmelo), The Perfection stars Allison Williams as Charlotte, a cellist who was once a rising star at an elite academy who gave up her career for a decade to care for her dying mother. At first, the movie seems like a pretty standard-issue psychological thriller in the vein of something like Black Swan. After her mother's death, Charlotte decides to attempt to resume her career. Do you trust Allison Williams? If you've seen her performance in Get Out, that question might cause you some hesitation. And that's Ok. In fact, now that her new horror film, The Perfection, is streaming, she's hoping that it does.
After playing Marnie Michaels for years on the HBO dramedy Girls, the 31-year-old actress has been working tirelessly to branch out into roles that prove she's capable of far more than portraying an uptight Wasp with a handful of frenemies. She's done everything from live theater (the titular role in Peter Pan Live!) to a clever and terrifying subversion of Marnie in Jordan Peele's Get Out, which sees her donning a mask of woke, white privilege before transforming into a straight-up monster as Rose.

You might not see another movie this year like The Perfection. Making its debut last fall at Austin’s Fantastic Fest, the movie stunned audiences there with its no-holds-barred approach to a story that could probably best be categorized as psychological horror. But in a way it’s difficult to place The Perfection into one neat genre box: think of something along the lines of Whiplash crashing head-on into Audition and that might give you an idea what lies in store for you.
The Perfection stars Allison Williams (Get Out) and Logan Browning (Dear White People) as Charlotte and Elizabeth, two incredibly talented cellists who are both students at the same esteemed music conservatory run by Anton (Steven Weber) and his wife Paloma (Alaina Huffman). Charlotte was a...

Richard Shepard’s taunting, genre-bending The Perfection is tailor-made for Netflix. That’s not meant as a derogatory statement about the platform’s “Originals” quality as much as an acknowledgment of the film’s attempt to seize a water cooler moment only possible through its universal accessibility. Presented as multiple chapters that cloak a structure of two discrete halves, the problem is less the film’s fiendish compulsion to shock its audience with sudden body horror or its corkscrewing narrative than its design being seemingly reverse engineered to complete that purpose. This is the kind of film that’s made for online k-holes where YouTubers carefully dissect the ending for content. But the more that Shepard’s film reveals its fastidious intentions, the more it unveils its simultaneous hollowness and ugliness.

Perhaps best known for his films, including Dom Hemingway and The Matador, director Richard Shepard is also well-versed in television directing. Having helmed a dozen episodes of Girls, he must have hit it off with Allison Williams as she leads his new intense thriller The Perfection, which follows musical prodigy and her new pupil. Having premiered back at Fantastic Fest to much acclaim, it’ll now land on Netflix this May and the first trailer has dropped, though most have said the less known going into the film, the better the experience will be.
Neil Miller at Film School Rejects said in his non-spoiler review, “What I can tell you about The Perfection is that it’s a sinister yarn that is hell-bent on keeping you guessing, using narrative tricks to pervert the audience’s sense of the truth, all while being a phenomenal piece of entertainment. Aside from the monumental and well-deserved rise of Adam Driver, Allison Williams is on track to become the core “Girls” cast member with the second most interesting career. Not only did her pivotal role in “Get Out” launch her into proper movie stardom, but it seems to have sparked a real love of genre in the actress, a role fans are eager to watch her fulfill. Williams is doubling down on horror with her newest project for Netflix, a thriller set in the cutthroat world of classical musicians. Even the title, “The Perfection,” hints at a Type A character obsessed with success for which Williams seems almost poetically suited.
According to Netflix, “The Perfection” is “overflowing with dizzying horror and sly dark humor.” The synopsis promises “an elegant and terrifying suspense ride filled with unexpected twists and turns. When troubled musical prodigy Charlotte (Williams) seeks out Elizabeth (Logan Browning), the...

The current second season of NBC’s series Midnight, Texas will be its last. The network has opted not to order a third season of the supernatural drama based on the books by author Charlaine Harris. Producing studio Universal Television is shopping it to other outlets. NBC also will not be picking more episodes of multi-camera comedy Marlon, starring Marlon Wayans, which ran for two seasons in summer 2017 and summer 2018.
Midnight, Texas, from Universal TV and David Janollari Entertainment, started with a 10-episode first season, which aired in summer 2017, ranking as the No. 1 broadcast drama series of the summer among adults 18-49. After scoring a last second renewal, the cast and crew of Midnight, Texas worked to create a stronger True Blood descendant.
Midnight is fast approaching on the set of Midnight, Texas.
The mountain scenery surrounding the town is barely visible and the only lights are from Midnight, Texas, itself – or at least the staged approximation of Midnight in the desert just outside Albuquerque, New Mexico. The neon lights of Strong Angel Tattoo and Nails parlor are lit up with a second set of neon light lights unnecessarily announcing “Tattoo Nails.” The Midnight Pawnshop’s sign is lit up, promising entrance 6 days a week, 24 hours a day – but no one is inside.
Instead, the cast and crew of NBC’s adaptation of author Charlaine Harris’ supernatural books are assembled inside the Crystal Desert Hotel & Spa, shooting an integral scene from Midnight, Texas’ Season 2 two-part finale.

Exclusive: On the heels of its world premiere at Fantastic Fest in Austin, TX; Richard Shepard’s Miramax horror-thriller-drama hybrid The Perfection has been acquired by Netflix for all global rights. Netflix plans to release the title worldwide next year. Deadline hears the acquisition deal was in the high seven-figure range.
Starring Get Out and Girls’ Allison Williams and Dear White People‘s Logan Browning, The Perfection tells the story of two cello prodigies who reunite in Shanghai, and it concludes with a visual that has reportedly left audiences speechless. Reviews in the wake of its premiere have been spoiler-conscious and mum on details. The linear plot of The Perfection, written by Eric Charmelo, Nicole Snyder and Shepard, is not revealed to the audience until the final moments, and it continuously challenges and subverts trust in both of the main characters. Steven Weber also stars as the duo’s mentor.

As for me, the highlight is going to be the Warner Brothers Theatrical panel, where we're expecting to get the first look at Michael Dougherty's Godzilla: King of the Monsters.

Happy Birthday, Frankenstein

And with that comes a plethora of books and movies rejoicing this occasion. At this panel, listen to authors talk about the influence that Mary Shelley's writing had on their works and why people still obsess over Frankenstein. And watch as they talk about the monsters that never die in their own novels.
