The Bloody Disgusting-powered Screambox is home to a variety of unique horror content, from originals and exclusives to cult classics and documentaries. With such a rapidly-growing library, there are many hidden gems waiting to be discovered.
Here are five recommendations you can stream on Screambox right now.
Nightbreed: The Director’s Cut
The sophomore directorial effort from master of horror Clive Barker, Nightbreed is by no means an obscurity among genre fans, but some may not be familiar with the director’s cut, which runs 20 minutes longer than the original version and has been reworked to better reflect Barker’s original vision. While it was virtually impossible to live up to the subversive heights of Hellraiser, Nightbreed is an admirable, if uneven, effort in its own right. Based on his 1988 novella Cabal, Barker incorporates elements of fantasy, monster movies, psychological thrillers, and slashers, but at its core Nightbreed is a love story.

Clive Barker’s Nightbreed begins with the sort of gory bloodletting that one expects from the writer-director. The film, based on Barker’s 1988 novella Cabal, introduces us to a masked slasher who’s soon revealed to be Phillip Decker (David Cronenberg), a therapist who’s been slowly drugging and manipulating a patient, Aaron Boone (Craig Sheffer), into believing that he’s responsible for the doctor’s recent crimes. But just as soon as we’re primed for a perverse spin on the psychological horror genre, Nightbreed wildly pivots in a totally different direction.
Decker arranges a scenario that will result in Boone being shot at by police before anyone asks questions, but as Sheffer’s patsy is drawn into a cemetery, he’s confronted by humanoid monsters. Though Decker’s plan works and Boone is torn apart by bullets, the man rises from the dead due to his exposure to the monsters,...

Boone, Button-Face & Barker.
After five weeks of discussing hilarious camp with Drop Dead Gorgeous, Nurse 3D, Female Trouble, Flesh for Frankenstein, and Sleepaway Camp, we went back to some more serious horror with a look at John Carpenter’s Someone’s Watching Me! last week. Now, we’re discussing the troubled production and queer allegory at the center of Clive Barker‘s Nightbreed (1990)!
In the film, Aaron Boone (Craig Sheffer) is haunted by terrifying nightmares of a city of monsters. He goes to see a psychiatrist, Dr. Decker (David Cronenberg), for help. But what Boone doesn’t know is that Decker is really a serial killer. Decker frames Boone to take the fall for his murders, and Boone is killed by the police. But Boone is brought back to life by the monsters of his dreams, the Nightbreed, who in turn join Boone in his quest to stop Decker from killing again.

Update: A ninth member of the New York Yankees organization has tested positive for coronavirus after being fully vaccinated.
Manager Aaron Boone said Sunday that a “staff member” tested positive, which they learned Saturday night. He did not identify the staffer, but said the new case was not part of the on-field coaching staff. Previously, pitching coach Matt Blake, first base coach Reggie Willits and third base coach Phil Nevin, along with shortstop Gleyber Torres, were named as the positive cases.
The staff member that tested positive Saturday is quarantining in Baltimore. The other positive cases remain in quarantine in Tampa.
Earlier: Continuing a worrisome trend, the New York Yankees placed shortstop Gleyber Torres on the Covid-19 injured list today. The fully-vaccinated player thus becomes the eighth team member to contract the coronavirus after being fully vacccinated.

Social media has been abuzz this week with talk of “Film Twitter” and “Horror Twitter,” whatever those things are. According to some, it’s a community of like-minded movie lovers who come together online to celebrate the things they love with positivity and enthusiasm. For others, they’re exclusionary cliques—popularity contests in which the Heather Chandlers rise to the top while the Martha Dumptrucks of the world are left fighting for scraps of approval. The truth, as is so often the case, lies somewhere in the middle: there is a true community of fans that has built up around the horror genre, and within that community can be hierarchical structures that can result in some members feeling left out.
I’ve long struggled with the idea of “the horror community” not in the abstract, but as the codified entity constantly referred to in online circles. I love horror movies...

Yes Network president Jon Litner needs the TV home of the New York Yankees to score as he faces an unusual dealmaking doubleheader. The biggest of Fox’s 22 regional sports networks will go to Disney in the $71.3 billion bundle of entertainment assets Rupert Murdoch agreed in June to unload. The ESPN owner then will put the RSNs back on the block. Disney’s agreement to do so helped persuade Justice Department antitrust lawyers that the deal wouldn’t give the company too much power in TV sports.
It’s unclear how much the networks will fetch. Some believe the business has peaked in the era of cord-cutting. Yes is one of the most expensive channels in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and Pennsylvania, charging distributors an estimated $5.36 per subscriber per month. Still, dealmakers are salivating. Yes should top the valuation of $3.8 billion, including $1.7 billion in debt, it had in 2014 when...
