As soon as Saw X, the tenth entry in the Saw franchise (you can read our review Here), was released last September, franchise producers Mark Burg and Oren Koules were already talking about the potential of a Saw XI. The official announcement came in December, along with a release date: September 27th. But over the last few months, the filmmakers have come to realize they need some extra time to make Saw XI something special, so the release has been pushed back a year, to September 26, 2025. So Lionsgate has unveiled a teaser trailer asking fans to play the waiting game, and you can check it out in the embed above.

The Bloody Disgusting-powered Screambox is home to a variety of unique horror content, from originals and exclusives to cult classics and documentaries. With such a rapidly-growing library, there are many hidden gems waiting to be discovered.
Here are five recommendations you can stream on Screambox right now.
The Collector
If the triumphant return of the Saw franchise has you in the mood for more trap-laden horrors, look no further than The Collector — which was originally conceived as a prequel to Saw that would show Jigsaw’s original story. When producers passed on the idea, writers Patrick Melton & Marcus Dunstan (Saw IV-vii) reworked it into an original script, which Dunstan directed in 2009.
A slasher/home invasion hybrid for the so-called “torture porn” era, The Collector stars Criminal Minds‘ Josh Stewart as struggling ex-con Arkin. A planned heist at his new employer’s home to repay a debt becomes deadly when he...

Whereas splatter movies wield gore and carnage like a weapon to evoke a visceral response, splatter comedies push the onscreen violence and gore into outlandish territory for the sake of a hearty laugh. Peter Jackson and Sam Raimi, for example, began their filmmaking careers defining the modern splatter comedy with their early works, pushing the boundaries of taste, horror, and humor through cartoonish bloodletting.
This week brings the arrival of a new splatter-comedy, Destroy All Neighbors, presenting the perfect excuse to laugh your way through the excess entrails and arterial spray the niche subgenre has to offer. These five splatter comedies vary in style and tone, but all seek to tickle your funny bone through humor, fun, and a whole lot of guts.
Here’s where you can stream them this week.

As soon as Saw X, the tenth entry in the Saw franchise (you can read our review Here), was released a couple months ago, franchise producers Mark Burg and Oren Koules were already talking about the potential of a Saw XI. Yesterday, the new sequel was officially announced, complete with a release date: Saw XI will be reaching theatres on September 27, 2024. When fans saw that announcement, they understandably jumped to the conclusion that the new film is going to be written by the team of Pete Goldfinger and Josh Stolberg, since they wrote not only Saw X but also Jigsaw and Spiral: From the Book of Saw. But, as it turns out, Goldfinger and Stolberg are not coming back for this one.
Stolberg took to X to let fans know: “Got a slew of DMs today about the Lionsgate Saw announcement. Pete and I are sitting this chapter out. Very...

No good villain is ever truly gone, especially in horror movies. This September saw the return of Tobin Bell as John Kramer, a.k.a. “Jigsaw,” the trap-making serial killer of the Saw movies, with the release of Saw X. This is despite the fact that Kramer has been dead since the end of Saw III, which came out back in 2006. But a little thing like death never stopped the Saw franchise. Instead of literally bringing Kramer back from the dead, the subsequent sequels continued Bell’s participation with devices like flashbacks. Hell, even Saw IV played a trick on audiences by staging a lot of its action at the same time as Saw III.
One of those post-Kramer sequels celebrates its 15th anniversary this year: Saw V, which featured Costas Mandylor as Detective Mark Hoffman, a murderous cop who became Jigsaw’s protégé and continued his campaign of bloodshed.

There's no disappointment quite as confusing as when a film gets canceled. It might happen suddenly, or become inevitable as a passion project suffers delay after delay. Then, when it does happen, it's usually because of shrouded problems behind the scenes or other powers beyond our control, like luck and timing. Suddenly, an exciting project ceases to exist. For hard-working artists and eager cinephiles alike, it's like a rug getting pulled.
Horror films are a unique breed, often made with tiny budgets and by the skin of their teeth. Not all of them are exceptional, but the genre is so boundless in its creative possibilities that any shelved project represents a lost vision. These 11 films, from binned sequels to scrappy original stories, represent films that have all come close to glory but, for a variety of reasons, were kept from audiences' eyes. Jon Watts, director of Spider-Man: Homecoming, Spider-Man: Far from Home, and Spider-Man: No Way Home, is producing the sixth film in the Final Destination franchise with Dianne McGunigle, Sheila Hanahan Taylor, and Craig Perry – and entertainment industry scooper Daniel Richtman just revealed the plot synopsis for the new film, along with some character descriptions and the title, which isn’t going to be Final Destination 6. This one is going by the title Final Destination: Bloodlines, which is kind of bummer because Bloodlines is a very over-used subtitle in the horror world. To name just a few, we’ve previously gotten Wrong Turn 5: Bloodlines, Tremors 5: Bloodlines, and Pet Sematary: Bloodlines.
But there is good reason for the Bloodlines subtitle, because family bloodlines are important to the story. Jeffrey Reddick – who wrote the initial screenplay for the original Final Destination and contributed to Final Destination 2 – has previously said that...

The Nun II is an gothic supernatural horror film directed by Michael Chaves and released in 2023. The screenplay is written by Ian Goldberg, Richard Naing, and Akela Cooper, based on a story by Cooper. This movie serves as a sequel to the 2018 film, The Nun, and is the eighth installment in The Conjuring Universe franchise. The cast includes Taissa Farmiga, Jonas Bloquet, and Bonnie Aarons, who reprise their roles from the first film, along with Storm Reid and Anna Popplewell joining the cast.
As a good sequel, “The Nun II” once again focuses on the elements that made the first one successful: lots of scares and a gothic atmosphere (they say now) with a photography style that emphasizes light and shadow.
Caravaggio’s tenebrism seems to still have its followers, as similar themes are combined, although this time with fewer distorted angles and more scares.

Back in the 2000s, one horror franchise would reign supreme over all others… Saw. From 2004 to 2010, seven films were released and each was more gruesome than the next. People usually break the franchise down into different groups as to which is their favorite. There’s the original trilogy, which most would say is where the best films stem from. It’s also where Leigh Whannell, James Wan and Darren Lynn Bousman had the most control over the franchise. There’s the middle trilogy, which most tend to hate and believe the series jumped the shark. John Kramer doesn’t like what he sees. After another disappointing doctor’s visit, the one-time villain of the Saw franchise, Jigsaw, pauses outside a patient’s room in order to have a drink of water. There he spies a custodian (Isan Beomhyun Lee) rifling through the belongings of that patient. The camera holds on Kramer’s eye staring at the custodian’s dirty deed before suddenly hard cutting to a shot of that same custodian, now in a trap. For this game, the custodian must turn a dial and break each of his “sticky” fingers, one by one, or have his eyeballs sucked out via an intensified version of the vacuum he uses.
As we soon learn, this first trap introduced in the weekend’s Saw X is actually a fake out; a figment of Kramer’s imagination as he thinks about the custodian’s actions. The scene ends...

Unhuman begins with title cards proclaiming it ”A Blumhouse Afterschool Special” and “Presented by the Student Teach Division (Std)”. That was the last thing I was expecting from a film by director Marcus Dunstan and his long-time co-writer Patrick Melton. While the three Feast films had their share of humour the duo are better known for more serious fare such as several of the later Saw films as well as The Collector and its sequel, both of which Dunstan also directed.
And it does begin like an Afterschool Special, Ever goes from dealing with her overprotective mother to being picked up by her best friend Tamra (Ali Gallo; Before I Go) who nearly hits Randall on their way to school. But...

Brianne Tju knows a thing or two about teen horror, considering she was only 13 years old when she appeared on the R.L. Stine anthology series, "The Haunting Hour." In the years since, Tju has returned to horror repeatedly in projects like "iZombie," "Light as a Feather," "47 Meters Down: Uncaged," and both the "Scream" and "I Know What You Did Last Summer" shows. Now, Brianne has finally been given the opportunity to lead a horror flick with Blumhouse and Epix's "Unhuman" from writer/director Marcus Dunstan and frequent co-writer Patrick Melton.

Unhuman is the latest low-budget horror film from the prolific Jason Blum and Blumhouse, and at first glance, there’s nothing particularly innovative about it. After all, there’s only so much you can do with zombie movies when that subgenre’s been around for years and almost everything has been tried with it. Under the directing duo of Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan – responsible for the tasteless Feast series and a large number of the Saw sequels – this has the bare minimum of setup: a bunch of high school kids are packed on a bus for a field trip (“for extra credit” is as far as reasons go) and are very quickly preyed upon by a feral metalhead and his followers, who behave like the...

Arriving on digital this Friday, June 3rd, from Blumhouse Television and Epix is Unhuman, the latest project from Marcus Dunstan that finds a group of high schoolers on a field trip in a fight for their lives when things take a turn and they are confronted by a horde of blood-thirsty zombies. Co-written by Dunstan and Patrick Melton, Unhuman stars Brianne Tju, Benjamin Wadsworth, Uriah Shelton, Ali Gallo, and Peter Giles.
During the recent press day for Unhuman, Daily Dead had the chance to speak with Dunstan about his approach to the story for his latest tale of terror and how events from his childhood helped inspired him to take the less-expected route with the film’s storytelling. Dunstan also discusses working with his cast and crew and gives this writer hope that The Collective, the intended third part of The Collector trilogy, will eventually move forward at some point in the future after all.

The Final Destination franchise has been on hiatus for close to a decade now, which is a long time for any horror brand with a built-in fanbase and huge earning potential to remain dormant. After all, the five installments to date have raked in over $665 million at the box office on combined production costs of $154 million, making it a very profitable enterprise for Warner Bros.
It seems even stranger that a new movie hasn’t made its way to the big screen yet after Final Destination 5 scored better reviews than any of the other entries in the series, and ranks as the second biggest earner behind only the fourth outing. There are plenty of worse horror properties that have churned out sequels on an almost annual basis, but fans are still waiting to see what Death has in store for the next unlucky cast of characters to escape his initial design.

If there are two things many horror fans love, they’re elaborate violence and horrific suffering. Both of these can be expected from The Collected, for which the first few images have now been released.
Despite lacking any numerical designation, The Collected is actually the third in a series that began with The Collector in 2009 and continued with The Collection in 2012. Written by Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan and directed by the latter, the movie titles refer to the actions of a masked madman who is a collector of people, taking one person from each place he invades and killing the rest.
The first film follows a handyman who attempts to steal a valuable ruby from his rich employers to pay off a debt to loan sharks, only to discover the family have been imprisoned and their house littered with traps preventing them from leaving and horrifically killing or mutilating the unwary.

“Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark” was based on the children’s book series of horror tales. Del Toro tapped “Trollhunter” director Øvredal to helm the adaptation, and shared story credit with Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan, with a screenplay by the Hagemans.
The PG-13 film was set in 1968 America in the small town of Mill Valley, where a book of stories written...

Let’s all distract ourselves from coronavirus news with info about a film franchise that focuses on people dying horrible deaths, shall we? Final Destination, the series that features young folks being dispatched via Rube Goldberg-like death traps, is gearing up for another misadventure, with Saw writers Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan previously announced as handling the script. While this […]

Though it’s been flying under the radar for almost a decade, Final Destination is on the verge of a comeback.
That’s according to series producer Craig Perry, who indicated that the sixth film in the cult horror franchise may be grounded in the world of first responders. Which is to say that Final Destination 6 will feature EMTs, firemen, and police in major roles.
Perry sat down with Digital Spy to discuss the sixth entry in the series, which currently has Saw screenwriters Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan at the wheel. They’ll be rustling up something fresh – something different – though Final Destination‘s creator Jeffrey Reddick is quick to warn fans that this won’t be a reboot, per se. But more on that later.
Here’s what Perry had to say regarding the core plot driving this new installment:

More than 35 years after taking on the Silver Shamrock corporation (and their relentless robot henchmen) in Halloween III: Season of the Witch, Tom Atkins returns to the festive atmosphere of All Hallows' Eve to defend his small town against a masked murderer in Trick, his third collaboration with director Patrick Lussier and co-writer Todd Farmer.
With Trick now in theaters and on VOD and Digital HD from Rlje Films, we recently had the pleasure of catching up with the legendary actor to discuss reteaming with Lussier and Farmer, going up against the evil slasher known as "Trick," filming a scene featuring a Night of the Living Dead screening at a church, and he also shared some insights on his character in The Collected, the upcoming third film in The Collector series from Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton.
Congratulations on Trick, Tom. You can add it alongside Halloween III to your list of Halloween movies.

While the Final Destination series has been scaring and freaking out moviegoers for nearly two decades, the franchise’s focus on Rube Goldberg-style freak accidents also had an unintended benefit. Sure, the never-ending deaths are a bit unsettling, but their highly improbable nature has, for many, removed any fear that they could happen in real life. Unfortunately, the illusion has been shattered now thanks to a recent traffic accident in Cohutta, Georgia earlier this week.
For those who might have forgotten, here’s a bit of a refresher. During the opening scene from 2003’s Final Destination 2, college student Kimberly Corman is driving down to Florida for spring break and has a deadly premonition of a traffic accident caused by a semi-truck carrying logs. Thankfully, she manages to avoid an untimely death by choosing not to get on the highway, inadvertently kicking off the events of the film.

Guillermo del Toro who – alongside Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan – conceived the story for this screen adaptation of the beloved spooky children’s books of the same name by Alvin Schwartz, has been eager to get this project seen by an equally youthful audience. Passed as a PG-13 in the Us, here in the UK the film has been classified a 15 but this does not harm a film that is mostly quite capable of satisfying older and younger horror fans alike. Less an anthology horror structure and more of a story in the vein of It, this film has the fingerprints of del Toro clearly visible on it and expresses the dark affection the film’s makers all have for the source material.

Guillermo del Toro is one of the gurus of gore contributing to this sometimes icky Ya-leaning horror compendium
Directed by Trollhunter’s André Øvredal, with script contributions from Guillermo del Toro and Saw graduates Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan, this young adult-leaning horror compendium proves a mixed bag over the long haul, but its best segments offer an upgrade on those Goosebumps movies: more rigorously self-referential in their storytelling, with an appreciable edge that lands the whole with a 15 certificate. It feels like a film made to be snuck into.
Del Toro’s influence can be most keenly felt in the careful setting-up of its world: an American Everytown – dateline: 1968 – that is anything but a nostalgic haven, beset as it is with oddly zomboid bullies, lopsided families and unaddressed traumas, not to mention Richard Nixon on TV each night, rallying his base. What goes on there digests several decades of small-town horror activity,...

I still vividly remember watching the original Final Destination in cinemas in 2000. In comparison to other horror films of the era like Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer, this one simply had fate as the bad guy, with its cast of unfortunate teenagers dodging death and then one-by-one meeting a grisly end in a variety of imaginative ways. It was a darkly funny romp full of surprises, and who could forget the famous bus scene? The series went on to have four sequels and a total gross of $665 million.
It’s been eight years since Final Destination 5 hit cinemas though, so it didn’t come as much of a surprise when we heard earlier this year that Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema were working on a reboot. Screenwriters Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan were hired to write it back in January, but since then, it’s been radio silence.

According to Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark‘s narration, some stories hurt. Some stories heal. In the case of André Øvredal’s bone-chilling anthology adaptation, some stories scare the ever-loving life out of audiences. Yes, Alvin Schwartz’s terrifying anecdotes angle towards children – but, like Stephen Gammell’s illustrations, Øvredal treats his intended audience as horror fans.
It’s *healthy* to feel scared, and this summer’s Guillermo del Toro-produced “introductory” horror tale is anything but 101-basic. No pandering to “age-appropriateness,” aka watered down kiddie content. As Schwartz’s stories come alive, nightmares suck the air from your lungs. Stick to Goosebumps if your family haunts easily – these scary stories aren’t for the faint of heart.
