Josef Priller(1915-1961)
- Additional Crew
An Oberstleutnant in the Luftwaffe, "Pips" Priller was a fighter pilot
who flew over three hundred sorties and claimed over one hundred Allied
kills, including sixty-eight Spitfires. As portrayed in "The Longest
Day" [qv], on the first day of the Normandy invasion, Priller and his
wingman Heinz Wodarczyk, flew over Omaha Beach and strafed the
attacking force. This was the only documented action of the Luftwaffe
on D-Day. After the war, Priller managed a brewery.
