Tom Hanks is diving into the world of motion pictures in his new novel.
In The Making of Another Major Motion Picture Masterpiece (Knopf), the Academy Award winner writes about the process of bringing a motion picture from the page to the screen through a group of characters. The story first takes place in 1947 when a soldier returning from war meets his 5-year-old nephew and then disappears for 23 years. Fast forward to 1970 and the nephew, a comic book artist, reconnects with his uncle, even drawing a comic version of him as a World War II hero.
“Cut to the present day: A commercially successful director discovers the 1970 comic book and decides to turn it into a contemporary superhero movie. Cue the cast: We meet the film’s extremely difficult male star, his wonderful leading lady, the eccentric writer/director, the producer, the gofer production assistant, and everyone else on both sides of the camera,...

Jocelyn Nicole Johnson’s upcoming debut novella, “My Monticello,” is set to receive a film adaptation from Chernin Entertainment for Netflix.
The streamer has acquired the rights to Johnson’s novella, which will be published on Oct. 5 in the U.S. through Henry Holt and Co., and via Harvill Secker in the U.K. on Nov. 4.
“My Monticello” is set in the near future, after an ecological disaster leads to societal collapse and bands of white nationalist militias run rampant across the country. A young woman who’s descended from Thomas Jefferson and Sally Hemings leads a group of refugees to take shelter in Monticello.
A finalist for the 2021 Kirkus Prize, the work has been called “a badass debut by any measure — nimble, knowing, and electrifying” by Colson Whitehead, “absolutely unforgettable” by Roxane Gay, “stunning” by Charles Yu, and “vital and unlike anything else you’ve known before … a voice...

There's a new Star Wars audiobook coming out called From a Certain Point of View, which will tell 40 stories from 40 different authors. The stories will focus on several different characters throughout the Star Wars universe including X-wing pilots, droid-hunting stormtroopers, and even some of the background characters from Star Wars: A New Hope.
One of these stories focuses on Boba Fett. The story is called "Added Muscle" and the story is written from Boba Fett's perspective. The story was written by Paul Dini (Batman: The Animated Series), and Jon Hamm (Mad Men) has been cast in the role of Boba Fett! Great casting and it will be fun to hear him voice this legendary Star Wars character. Do you think Hamm is a good choice? Would you like to see him play a version of the character in a movie?

Despite their relative youth, a couple of new, hot playwrights have death on their minds this overly warm winter. Last week, Branden Jacobs-Jenkins’s “Everybody” opened at the Pershing Square Signature Center. And on Monday, also at the Center, Will Eno opened “Wakey, Wakey.” But if you have just one death play to see this season, make it “Everybody.” Michael Emerson spends most of “Wakey, Wakey” sitting up in a wheelchair, alone on stage. A caregiver (January Lavoy) arrives late in the play to chit-chat, put a wet towel on his forehead, and check his pulse. Emerson’s Guy has suffered a.

Thanksgiving is coming for the Reagan family, too -- but if their anticipation of the holiday wasn't tempered by crime concerns, it wouldn't be "Blue Bloods."
Maria (Marisa Ramirez) had a particularly rough time with family matters in "Bad Blood," Friday's (Nov. 22) episode of the CBS police drama written by co-executive producer Daniel Truly and directed by Robert Harmon, who also has worked with series star Tom Selleck on all but one of the "Jesse Stone" TV movies.
A murder investigation began for Maria and Danny (Donnie Wahlberg) outside a Spanish Harlem bar, but they soon went in to interrogate the very enthusiastic, soccer-watching patrons. They came up empty on suspects, until a security tape revealed someone Maria recognized (guest star Kirk Acevedo, "Oz") .
Danny and Maria went to find the man, nicknamed "Tic-Tac" -- and while chasing him, Maria made a side run at him, sending him through a store's glass door.

Welcome to a new edition of Gays of Our Lives. You don’t want to miss the clips from last week’s episodes that I’ve got in Gool Theater, as they are the stuff that good soaps are made of. Meanwhile, As the World Turns introduces snarky Dr. Reid Oliver and a new story arc for Luke and Noah. Does it have potential or is it dead on arrival?
Also, find out if the second episode of Raw is any better than the first and see what happens when Lucas asks Marco what he wants from him on the German version of Good Times, Bad Times.
How was Dr. Reid Oliver’s debut last week?
In Gool Scoops And Spoilers, Kyle and Oliver discover their lives are getting much more complicated by the baby drama on Oltl and Luke learns just how evil his bio-dad Damian can be on As the World Turns.
