After last week’s satisfying, wish-fulfilling episode, it’s only fear to expect The Morning Show to deliver something dark and herowing this week. Adhering to that, the show delivered exactly that: an hour of captivating drama where the good guys try to outweigh the bad but mostly fail. Although it is hard to distinguish between good and bad in this show, you know what I mean. Billy Crudup, inarguably the show’s best performer, gets his biggest opportunity to showcase his talent this season, and he doesn’t let it go wasted, unsurprisingly. It is a big party day at Cory Land, and everyone at Uba is gearing up for it. Not that all of them are particularly excited to attend the party, but given that it is a party thrown by the CEO, making your presence felt is sort of mandatory, after all.

David Crosby’s final band will reconvene later this summer for a special concert honoring the folk rock legend, who died back in January.
The show is both a tribute, as well as a make-up show of sorts: Crosby was originally scheduled to perform a set of Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young classics at the Lobero Theatre on Feb. 22 to mark the Santa Barbara venue’s 150th birthday. The gig was obviously called off after his death, but now the band he assembled for that show will gather at the Lobero on Aug.

Released in 1992 to critical acclaim, Sally Potter’s sophomore feature film Orlando follows the life of an eponymous, time traveling, androgynous nobleman who transforms from a man to a woman over the course of the film. An adaptation of Virginia Woolf’s 1928 novel of the same name, Potter’s stunning film is a sumptuous take on Woolf’s stream of consciousness writing; a fleshing-out of the “viable skeleton” of the novel.1 For a film with such an unusual conceit, it was important that there to be a unifying element to tie the film’s different time periods together, and this cohesion was attained through the film’s ruminative, near-constant musical score. In addition to writing and directing Orlando, Potter, a trained musician and improviser, also took on the task of composing music for the film. Whilst lamenting to producer Christopher Sheppard that the film had gone over budget and they couldn’t afford a composer,...

Top brass at the Independent Filmmaker Project (Ifp) have announced (12) 10 ten documentaries selected for the 2014 Independent Filmmaker Labs for first-time feature directors.
The creative teams of the selected films, chosen from a national pool of more than 200 submissions, are currently attending the first week’s sessions – The Time Warner Foundation Completion Labs – that run from May 12-16 in New York.
The Narrative Lab selections will be announced in June.
“With the ability to support filmmakers and their projects over the long-term, the Labs remain one of Ifp’s most rewarding and successful programmes,” said Ifp executive director Joana Vicente.
“With 80% of previous Lab projects debuted in festivals and released worldwide, the impact of the programme continues to be significant.”
The 2014 labs mark the 10th anniversary edition of the mentorship programme conceived by producer and Filmmaker Magazine editor Scott Macaulay.
The Labs were launched in 2005 as a three-day initiative for eight narrative projects and have evolved into a...
