Chris Georgas(I)
- Camera and Electrical Department
Chris grew up in Keratea, a town south of Athens, Greece. After attending the local state school he then volunteered for his national duty. It was in the military where Chris's passion for films was ignited as he became part of the filming and survey unit in his division. On leaving the army, he was inspired and determined to study cinematography.
Chris spent the next three years studying film making in Athens, supplementing his studies by working as an OB cameraman and completing a part time course to gain an electrical qualification.
Whilst completing his studies, Chris developed a love for lighting and after graduating he started working as a lighting technician in a small studio. His will to network and progress landed him a job as a lighting technician on a TV drama series with the DoP Giannis Daskalothanasis. It was this break that brought further work in TV commercials, the opportunity to Best Boy and finally, Gaffer at a professional level.
After two successful years the quest for bigger challenges led Chris to move to London in 1998. He completed further studies - a BsC Hons in Special Effects and at the same time was volunteering his services as a Gaffer on short film projects with graduate cinematographers from the London Film School and the National Film and Television School. Chris's knowledge and passion for lighting increased through the unlimited resources that the UK offered. His career progressed on to working in commercials and music videos with companies like Arden Sutherland-Dodd, Bikini films and Partizan alongside a number of DoPs like Stuart Gosling, Steven Priovolos, Alex Hemming, Balazs Bolygo HSC.
Chris now finds himself working on feature films with DoPs such as Felix Wiedemann, Rob Hardy BSC, Sam McCurdy BSC, Matt Gray BSC, Christopher Ross BSC, Polly Morgan BSC and others.
He is also working on highly acclaimed TV dramas for BBC, ITV and other major networks alongside the likes of DoPs such as Ian Moss, Ruairi O'Brian ISC, John Pardue, Dirk Nel, Rob Kitzmann and many more.
