Hello, and welcome to the Scene 2 Seen Podcast. I am Valerie Complex, an associate editor and film writer at Deadline.
Today I’m chatting with M88 managing partner and co-founder Phillip Sun, who has a unique outlook and philosophy and uses that forward thinking to propel the firm to the top of the business. This is why he’s ascended the ranks as one of the industry’s most dynamic reps.

Identified only by their last name, Tu, the husband and wife in Brief History of a Family have built their comfortably middle-class life together in accordance with China’s one-child policy. Now, in less restrictive times, a chance to expand their nuclear unit arrives in the form of their teenage son’s mysterious new friend. From shifting perspectives, writer-director Lin Jianjie examines the contained volatility of this four-person configuration. His stylistic choices can be spot-on or self-conscious in their artifice, but his debut feature reveals a talent to watch. With its intriguing performances, narrative restraint and unanswered questions, the movie delivers a strong pull of yearning as well as tantalizing currents of suspicion and dread.

Michael Giacchino's score for the hit ABC series "Lost" is the greatest musical score in television history. A few other composers have come close in the years since the show went off the air, but for my money, Giacchino's masterful score not only perfectly matched the series' stunning visuals over six seasons, but it whisked the audience through rousing, suspenseful, romantic, heartbreaking, propulsive, and mysterious scenes with the types of memorable melodies and repeated leitmotifs that seem to have fallen out of favor in blockbuster filmmaking these days.
While some of the show's music has been available on vinyl before, the full score for season 1 has only recently been made available on that format for the very first time. Varabese Sarabande is selling the score for $38.00 as a 2-lp edition in a silver foil gatefold jacket featuring notes from co-creators J.J. Abrams, Damon Lindelof, and the maestro Michael Giacchino himself.

The Fantastic Four teaser image had a lot going for it, but the surprise that fans have been focusing on the most is the inclusion of H.E.R.B.I.E, the robot assistance that first made an appearance in the 1978 animated series. He was a replacement for The Human Torch, who was not licensed for the television series,.

However, H.E.R.B.I.E’s appearance in the poster implies there is at least going to be some alien involvement in the Fantastic Four film and it will most probably include Galactus. If this version of the Fantastic Four sticks true to the comics, H.E.R.B.I.E will have some Xandarian make in his circuits, which means it is another opportunity to introduce Nova.

If there is something positive about the existence of streaming platforms in recent times, it's the explosion of quality television series that we haven't experienced for several decades. There is something for everyone, even for TV sceptics who are not easily convinced to step out of the cinema or from what they concern as a serious screening content. Almost four years ago, during the Mastercard event at the Venice Film Festival, Brian de Palma confessed that he was hooked to the comedy-drama series “Dead To Me” starring Christina Applegate and Linda Cardellini, admitting that he was watching television more than ever before due to a big improvement in quality of productions. Liz Feldman wasn't in the audience, but I was, glad to hear that such a legend and I are sharing the same passion for the show.

Actor Justin Chien, who plays Charles Sun on Netflix’s The Brothers Sun, is one of the series’ most notable faces (for obvious reasons). Although The Brothers Sun is far from Chien’s on-screen acting debut, playing the older Sun brother will be a career-defining role for the actor. With its premiere in early 2024, The Brother Sun raised the standard for the year’s upcoming action comedy-drama series. Introduced in the opening scene of the pilot episode of The Brothers Sun, Justin Chien’s character fight scenes quickly helped set the tone of the series. Alongside the character’s humor, Chien’s performance has received...

Of the many dangers of the martial arts madness of The Brothers Sun, one particular hazard stands alone: churro dust.
In an exclusive behind-the-scenes blooper reel, Justin Chien — who plays eldest Sun brother, Charles — cracks open a crispy delicious churro only to be reverse Salt Bae-d with a scattershot of sugar and cinnamon straight to the eyes. Don’t worry, Chien survived… barely.
But that’s not the only on-set calamity revealed in the blooper reel. Sam Song Li, who plays Bruce, the younger Sun, becomes engorged with an internal burp cloud and then releases a noxious waft that resounds within his Nissan.
Then there’s Li trying to smash a childproof plastic chair — perhaps an attempt to re-create his brother’s murderous moniker “Chairleg” — but the chair fights back, nearly impaling him with its bouncy aquamarine safety plastic body. It’s terrifying. And adorable.

Michelle Yeoh is back! Not that she went anywhere, to paraphrase the Nicolas Cage comedy "The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent." Still, we're undeniably in the midst of a renaissance (a Yeohnaissance?) for the Oscar-winning Malaysian superstar, one that arguably started with her role as the steely matriarch of the uber-wealthy Young family in 2018's "Crazy Rich Asians." Her latest project, "The Brothers Sun," once again sees Yeoh playing the determined head of a clan, this time portraying Eileen Sun, the wife of the recently assassinated head of a powerful Taiwanese triad.
The Sun family's connections to organized crime come as a real shock to Eileen's youngest son Bruce (Sam Song Li), who's been living a quiet life with his mother in Los Angeles when his older brother, Charles (Justin Chien), shows up to break the news ... and with a whole lot of dangerous people who want them dead on his tail.

Oscar winner Michelle Yeoh is returning to her action star roots.
The “Everything Everywhere All at Once” Academy Award winner stars in Netflix series “The Brothers Sun,” created by Brad Falchuk and Byron Wu. The series centers on the Sun family, which runs a powerful Taiwanese triad. After the death of the patriarch shot by a mysterious assassin, the eldest Sun son Charles “Chairleg” Sun (Justin Chien) — a revered assassin in his own rite — returns to Los Angeles to protect his mother Eileen (Yeoh) and his naive younger brother Bruce (Sam Song Li).
The only more dangerous twist? The Suns have no idea they’re involved in organized crime. Per the official synopsis, “as Taipei’s deadliest societies and a new rising faction go head-to-head for dominance, Charles, Bruce, and their mother must heal the wounds caused by their separation and figure out what brotherhood and family truly mean before...

While I truly appreciate a compelling Korean ‘melo,‘ there are times when the drama becomes overwhelming, hijacking the plot’s integrity. My anticipation for The Moon was sky-high, and with its stellar cast, including popular actors, and my high expectations from the Hallyu industry, I entered with excitement. The realms of space and the future have been thoroughly explored in Korean media, with works like Space Sweepers and The Silent Sea finding success. Personally, I encountered similar concerns with ‘Space Sweeper,’ starring Song Jong-Ki, as I did with The Moon. Both films are excessively lengthy and strain for an emotional impact that ultimately falls short. I understand that this is a cultural denominator, similar to what we have with Indian films, but the criticism still stands when the film becomes tedious and feels overstretched.
The Moon details a space expedition to the moon conducted by Korea’s very own Naro Space Center.

Nominated for the Palme d'Or in 1974, “Himiko” is one of the most renowned titles of both Atg and Masahiro Shinoda, perhaps for the way it manages to channel both “Horrors of Malformed Men” and Kurosawa's colored works, although the latter actually succeeded the film.

The story follows the myth of the Sun Goddess, Himiko, who is the earliest Japanese historical figure documented in Japanese, Chinese, and Korean history, although her existence, identity, and location have been the source of endless debate. Nevertheless, the consensus talks about a queen-shaman who was ruling Yamatai, the Kingdom of the Sun before Japan became a specific, separate entity. In the film, she is a shaman who speaks for the Sun God, being revered in the society she lives in but also constrained by the will of her people for her to be a sacred entity.

The four panelists on “The Masked Singer” are squawking aimlessly as they try to figure out the identity of the secret celebrity hiding inside the Macaw costume. The multi-colored parrot performed Tim McGraw‘s “Live Like You Were Dying” during the sixth episode of Season 9 and then returned in the quarter-finals where he belted out “Your Song.” In the semi-finals, he received enough votes to advance to the season finale, which means we’ll all have to wait a bit longer to find out who he really is. Do You have any ideas? Read on for the judges’ “The Masked Singer” Macaw guesses.

Following the excellent feature, “Ten Months”, Sun Nam-koong returned to shorts with an unusual film, shot in one take inside a car.
“Nice to See Your Face” is screening at Busan International Short Film Festival
Eden, a blue-haired woman, is driving down the road when her car comes to a stop due to engine failure. Surprisingly, her first thought is to call her ex-boyfriend Hae-won, since some loose ends remain after their break up, and she wants to close them before leaving the country. While she is talking, a man stops by and starts pestering her about taking care of the damage in her car.
Sun Nam-koong directs a short that seems to focus on regret and essentially, love, with the two elements being the sources of the drama that permeates the movie. Eden, in particular, seems on the verge of a breakdown, and the appearance of the stranger does not help at all,...

For the first eight seasons of “The Masked Singer,” if a contestant didn’t receive enough votes to qualify for the next round, they would be forced to unmask and reveal their true identity in front of America. Season 9, however, introduced a new twist known as the “Ding Dong Keep It On” Bell. This allowed the panelists to save an eliminated singer by ringing a bell. During the April 26 episode, saved contestants Medusa, Gargoyle and Mantis competed to make history on “The Masked Singer” and be the first person ever to re-enter the competition, and Medusa prevailed.
Medusa’s triumph wasn’t much of a surprise. After all, the audience went absolutely crazy after she belted out “Mercy” on Wednesday’s show. “I felt very emotional just singing this song, and to have this reaction, I’m gonna replay this in my mind forever,” she stated through tears.
