If you are a horror fan then you might have heard about the director duo of Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, who gave us brilliant horror films like 2022’s Scream and 2019’s Ready or Not and now they are back with their new and even campier horror film Abigail. Written by Stephen Shields and Guy Busick, the new horror film is a reimagining of the 1936 Universal Classic Monsters film Dracula’s Daughter and it follows the story of a group of kidnappers who are told to kidnap the daughter of a very powerful man and keep her in the house for 24 hours, but they quickly realize that the daughter might not be what she seems. Abigail stars Alisha Weir, Melissa Barrera, Dan Stevens, Will Catlett, Kathryn Newton, Kevin Durand, Angus Cloud, Giancarlo Esposito, and Matthew Goode. So, if you loved the horror, survival, and gory elements of Abigail here are some...

Horror comes in many types, from popcorn hell-raisers to deep and thoughtful mental anguish that will stay in our minds long after we’ve watched them. The best kinds, are the ones that tap into what you feel is safe away from the movie world, and bring horror home… and this is one thing that The Strangers did so well.
After returning home to an isolated vacation house after a night out, a couple hear a knock on the door. Seemingly a mistake, they send the people on their way, but it’s not long before a violent house invasion ensues by three masked individuals.
While the start of The Strangers may be slow for some, it does well at setting up a couple whose relationship is on the rocks. Liv...

Sneak Peek new images of model/actress Gemma Ward ("The Great Gatsby") in the December 2018 issue of "Harper's Bazaar" (Australia) magazine, wearing Givenchy, Coach 1941, Louis Vuitton and a whole lot more, photographed by Georges Antoni:
"As a model you do play a certain role and you know as an actor you play another role," said Ward. "It's hard if you start believing that you should be really that perfect fantasy ideal. You can delve into that fantasy world and play with it, but when you walk away, that's not you.
"As a child, I was a clown. I didn't hesitate to make a fool of myself and I would love to completely take on wacky characters. To make my brothers and my sister laugh was the greatest joy to me in my life. I like people who can make fun of themselves a lot..."

'Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl': Johnny Depp as Capt. Jack Sparrow. 'Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl' review: Mostly an enjoyable romp (Oscar Movie Series) Pirate movies were a Hollywood staple for about three decades, from the mid-'20s (The Sea Hawk, The Black Pirate) to the mid-to-late '50s (Moonfleet, The Buccaneer), when the genre, by then mostly relegated to B films, began to die down. Sporadic resurrections in the '80s and '90s turned out to be critical and commercial bombs (Pirates, Cutthroat Island), something that didn't bode well for the Walt Disney Company's $140 million-budgeted film "adaptation" of one of their theme-park rides. But Neptune's mood has apparently improved with the arrival of the new century. He smiled – grinned would be a more appropriate word – on the Gore Verbinski-directed Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl,...

The Great Gatsby Cannes 2013: Leonardo DiCaprio on logically soggy red carpet Baz Luhrmann’s The Great Gatsby opened the 2013 Cannes Film Festival on Wednesday evening. The Gatsby red carpet looked like a cross between the Academy Awards (Steven Spielberg, Leonardo DiCaprio, Carey Mulligan, Tobey Maguire) and Dancing with Stars (loud music, with a handful of dancers performing in ’20s-costumes). (Photo: Leonardo DiCaprio on the 2013 Cannes Film Festival’s The Great Gatsby red carpet.) On the Cannes Film Festival’s video of the Great Gatsby red carpet, you can watch Carey Mulligan getting nearly decapitated by a take-no-prisoners umbrella; Leonardo DiCaprio telling an interviewer, "I can’t hear a word you’re saying," and then walking on as if said journalist was invisible; and Tobey Maguire getting called, "Eh, Tobee!" But what do we learn from those brief interviews? That being in Cannes is "exciting" (DiCaprio, Maguire) and "meaningful" (Luhrmann,...

Leonardo DiCaprio The Great Gatsby movie box office: DiCaprio’s second biggest opening ever — but trailing Titanic in ticket sales The Great Gatsby movie adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s classic novel earned $50.08m at the North American box office this past weekend, including $3.25 million from late Thursday night showings, according to weekend box-office actuals found at Box Office Mojo. Despite mostly poor reviews — The Great Gatsby has a 32% approval rating and 5.6/10 average among Rotten Tomatoes‘ top critics — the Baz Luhrmann-directed take on the love story between Leonardo DiCaprio’s Jay Gatsby and Carey Mulligan’s Daisy Buchanan far surpassed the expectations of both distributor Warner Bros. and box-office pundits. In fact, The Great Gatsby trailed only Robert Downey Jr’s Iron Man 3, which collected $72.52 million at the domestic box office this past weekend. (Photo: Leonardo DiCaprio in The Great Gatsby.) Partly thanks to 3D surcharges and a strong female contingent of ticket-buyers,...

Leonardo DiCaprio The Great Gatsby movie weekend box office: DiCaprio’s second biggest opening ever? (Photo: Leonardo DiCaprio in The Great Gatsby, with Carey Mulligan) Leonardo DiCaprio stars as Jay Gatsby in Baz Luhrmann’s The Great Gatsby movie adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s classic 1920s novel. A risky move? Well, if so, it has clearly paid off. Although The Great Gatsby will not top the North American box office this weekend, it’ll land in a remarkably (and surprisingly) strong second slot. (Photo: Leonardo DiCaprio in The Great Gatsby movie adaptation, with Carey Mulligan as Daisy Buchanan.) Robert Downey Jr’s Iron Man 3 will easily lead the domestic box-office charge with approximately $65-70m, after plummeting 71% on Friday, compared to the previous week. True, opening-day Friday also included the box-office take from Thursday late night showings, but, for comparison’s sake, The Avengers was down 64% during that same time frame.

The Great Gatsby 2013 movie box office: Way overperforming? (Photo: Leonardo DiCaprio in The Great Gatsby) The Great Gatsby 2013 movie adaptation directed by Baz Luhrmann, and starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Carey Mulligan will not top the North American box office this weekend. That’s the not-so-good news. But then again, no one was expecting The Great Gatsby to soar past Robert Downey Jr’s special-effects-laden Iron Man 3. True, both movies are in 3D, but … maybe if Jay Gatsby’s hair gel were capable of blowing up all of New England or something, then it’d have had a chance. (Updated The Great Gatsby weekend box office estimate.) Now, the (really) good news: The Great Gatsby, with the assistance of 3D surcharges and a large percentage of female ticket-buyers, may open north of $50m at 3,525 North American locations, according to early, rough estimates found at Deadline.com. As per Deadline’s "sources,...

The Great Gatsby Movie: Leonardo DiCaprio: ‘Heir apparent to Cary Grant’ (photo: Leonardo DiCaprio, Carey Mulligan in The Great Gatsby) [See previous post: "The Great Gatsby 2013: Leonardo DiCaprio, Baz Luhrmann Shine; Story Essence Lost."] The role of the enigmatic, larger-than-life Gatsby would seem a difficult one to cast in an age when movie stars have been replaced by whatever pre-digested superhero is easiest to market and promote. Consider us lucky that one of the only movie stars left in American film makes a terrific Gatsby. There are moments when Leonardo DiCaprio, who previously worked with Luhrmann in 1996’s Romeo + Juliet, looks the heir apparent to Cary Grant. Our first head-on shot of Gatsby shows the character as the very embodiment of America’s unbridled optimism. His reputation as a good-time Charlie is surpassed only by his opacity. To the hundreds of guests who excitedly converge upon his bedazzled mansion, he’s a glamorous riddle, a thrower of epic house parties who might have...

Warner Bros. Pictures' The Great Gatsby opens in 3,535 theaters this weekend, and could turn in anywhere north of $35-$40 million from its debut weekend. Of course, Disney distributed Marvel big boy Iron Man 3 is definitely topping the box office charts, and should gross over $75 million on its second weekend run. Baz Luhrmann directs Gatsby's very-talented cast of Leonard DiCaprio, Cary Mulligan, Tobey Maguire, Joel Edgerton, Isla Fisher and Elizabeth Debicki. The film is not an easy project to make, by any means, and not one to receive remarkable reviews for the most part. In fact, Upcoming Movies' Steve Ramos gave it a slightly above-average score, while Anders Wright posted a below par rating in his review. The film's holding a 44% "Rotten" score at Rottentomatoes.com. Luhrmann and Craig Pearce adapt the novel from F. Scott Fitzgerald for the screen. The cast also includes Gemma Ward, Callan McAuliffe, Amitabh Bachchan,...

F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby has been widely acclaimed as one of the quintessential classic novels of American literature. As such, there have been numerous movie adaptations, the latest of which came in 1974, with a cast that featured Robert Redford and Mia Farrow. Director Baz Luhrmann, however, chose to tackle a new adaptation of the novel as his next project, reuniting with his Moulin Rouge! co-writer Craig Pearce to take on screenwriting duties. The cast this time around has Leonardo DiCaprio taking on the role of Jay Gatsby, supported by Carey Mulligan, Tobey Maguire, Joel Edgerton, Isla Fisher, Jason Clarke, and Gemma Ward. A new trailer for the movie has now been released, and can be seen below.

We're expecting Baz Luhrman's interpretation of "The Great Gatsby" to be nothing short of the visually decadent feasts the director is so deft in creating. But unfortunately, we'll have to wait until summer 2013 to really see the spectacle for ourselves. In the meantime, Warner Bros. has released a few character posters, giving us a sneak peek at the vibrant costumes and art deco flair particular to the film's Jazz Age era backdrop.
Each seriously stylish poster features a colorful character from the tragic tale. And if you weren't paying attention in your high school English class or simply need a refresher, lucky for you, each promo is labeled with Fitzgerald's own description of the doomed bunch.
Out of the presumed six posters, the first two to be unveiled feature Myrtle Wilson and Tom Buchanan, played by Isla Fisher and Joel Edgerton, respectively. Fisher holds a smoldering gaze as Buchanan's low-class mistress,...

One of our most anticipated movies of 2013 has to be The Great Gatsby. Everything we’ve seen from the movie looks fabulous and this new poster of Isla Fisher is no exception. I hardly recognised her at first when I saw it but I think that’s just a testament to the wonderful costume and make-up that we’ve seen from the movie in the trailer.

At the beginning of the year I made a list of my Top 40 Most Anticipated Movies of 2012. Of that list, it looks like about nine won't be hitting theaters this year and I've now seen 13 of them, which leaves me with only 18 movies and with six months to go I need a little more motivation than just 18 movies and it never hurts to make sure we recharge our batteries and prepare for the home stretch. First, I thought I'd list, in order, my previous Top 40 films including links to reviews and grades for the ones I've seen: Django Unchained Gravity Prometheus (Grade: B / my review) Seven Psychopaths Only God Forgives To Rome with Love (Grade: C+ / my review) The Dark Knight Rises Rust and Bone (Grade: A / my review) Skyfall Amour (Grade: A / my review) Killing Them Softly (Grade: A / my review) The Bourne Legacy The Grandmasters The Place Beyond...

I try and avoid all trailers, but last night before my screening of Rock of Ages, the trailer for The Great Gatsby was one of two trailers they showed. Considering I know the story already I wasn't too bothered seeing it and it was better than seeing it for the first time on my computer. Directed by Baz Luhrmann and starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Carey Mulligan, Tobey Maguire and Joel Edgerton the film is an adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald's book of the same name and I must say, I really liked what I saw last night, at least visually. Considering the story is a good one, all that matters now is that Luhrmann and co-writer Craig Pearce haven't betrayed Fitzgerald's novel. My main curiosity is just how much voice over will be used. I'm hoping very little, at least beyond the opening moments. The Great Gatsby will be released...

Out of nowhere, Warner Bros. has premiered the trailer for Baz Luhrmann's The Great Gatsby starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Carey Mulligan, Tobey Maguire, Joel Edgerton, Jason Clarke, Isla Fisher and Gemma Ward. Luhrmann's adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald's novel will be released in 3-D on December 25 and centers on would-be writer Nick Carraway (Maguire) as he leaves the Midwest and comes to New York City in the spring of 1922, an era of loosening morals, glittering jazz and bootleg kings. Chasing his own American Dream, Nick lands next door to a mysterious, party-giving millionaire, Jay Gatsby (DiCaprio) and across the bay from his cousin, Daisy (Mulligan) and her philandering, blue-blooded husband, Tom Buchanan (Edgerton). It is thus that Nick is drawn into the captivating world of the super rich, their illusions, loves and deceits. As Nick bears witness, within and without the world he inhabits, he pens a tale of impossible love,...
