In an alarming episode of Real Time with Bill Maher last night, mid-show interview guest Richard A. Clarke, a former Reagan adviser and security expert, minced no words. His latest book: Warnings: Finding Cassandras to Stop Catastrophes is about the outlier experts who warn us of the real threats we are facing, including things like rising sea levels and cyber-warfare. Of the recent political races, he said that Russia meddled heavily in the U.S. election and plans to repeat it in 2018 and 2020. Clarke presciently predicted cyber-warfare over a decade ago, and last night sounded the warning that our...read more...

“Real Time” host Bill Maher is concerned that Russia will again interfere with U.S. elections in 2018 and 2020 and, according to counter-terrorism expert Richard A. Clarke, Maher should be worried. “The Russians will be back,” Clarke said with certainty on Friday night’s “Real Time With Bill Maher.” “After what happened in the last election, the U.S. government should have instituted a very comprehensive program to make sure the Russians never get involved in our democracy again, and we’ve done nothing. Nothing at all. … They will certainly be back trying to re-elect this guy,” he added, referring to Donald Trump.

Sony Pictures has hired Sheldon Turner to adapt Richard Clarke's novel "The Scorpion's Gate" as an action-thriller that will be produced by Jennifer Klein, reports Variety . For three decades, Richard A. Clarke worked in the White House, State Department, and Pentagon. As adviser to four presidents, he traveled throughout the Middle East, visiting palaces, military bases, and intelligence centers, meeting rulers, soldiers, and spies. Some of what he found appeared in Against All Enemies. Much more of it appears here. In an extraordinary...

Last night was, once again, the biggest night in the movie industry. It was Oscar’s 83rd year and it was once again a bit of a snooze-fest. Every year I sit down to watch this thing hoping and praying it’ll be better than the previous year. Every year I’m left with the same feeling. Maybe it’ll be better next year.
I don’t know what the solution is because it’s impossible to please everyone. This year they obviously tried to appeal to the younger generations by having Anne Hathaway and James Franco host. I’ll give them points for trying, but in the end it all fell a bit flat. It’s a shame really. But c’est la vie, there’s always next year.
The highlights for me consisted of:
Christian Bale’s beard. And seeming to forget his wife’s name. Say what...
