During an impassioned segment on MSNBC, Donny Deutsch slammed Hollywood and corporate America for their silence amid Hamas’ deadly attacks on Israel.
“I don’t understand the silence from Hollywood. I don’t understand the silence from corporate America. I don’t understand the silence from the academics. And I don’t understand the silence from so many politicians,” Deutsch said, speaking with anchor Nicolle Wallace.
Deutsch, who is Jewish, was previously a host on MSNBC and CNBC. The television personality and political analyst now hosts the podcast “On Brand With Donny Deutsch.”
“There is not context here. This is about the slaughtering of Jews,” Deutsch said. “It’s a level of heinousness we can’t even understand… beheading a baby, taking a nine-month old hostage, raping and dragging a dead woman through the town, killing elderly people. It goes back to my question again: Why the silence in this country from our institutions?...

MSNBC’s The “Morning Joe” crew was pretty horrified on Thursday morning by Ron DeSantis’ new anti-lgbtq ad, but they also got a good laugh out of it. Because, according to the panelists, it was ironically very “homoerotic.”
The video, which is more than a minute long, not only attacks Trump, but touts DeSantis’ discrimination against the community, at one point likening him — voluntarily — to Patrick Bateman, the serial killer portrayed by Christian Bale in “American Psycho.” Set to club music, it also contains shots of Brad Pitt from the movie “Troy,” along with other figures DeSantis apparently sees himself on par with.
Ad executive Donny Deutsch admitted he was “stumped” by how “twisted” and “deviant” the video is, but New York Times editorial board member Mara Gay pointed out the distinct undertones she picked up on.

Max Meyers has at least one firm rule about his new CNBC program, and it might surprise some of the business-news outlet’s die-hards. “I told everyone, ‘No earnings,’” says Meyers, a veteran producer at the NBCUniversal-backed cable network. “I don’t want to hear that.”
No net income on CNBC? Such a dictate would be anathema on “Squawk Box,” the morning-news program that Meyers previously ran, but it might just stick on “Last Call,” a new 7 p.m. effort from CNBC executives that aims to keep business-news aficionados hanging out with the network until later in the evening. Over the past week, anchor Brian Sullivan, who is moving from a 5 a.m. roost on “Worldwide Exchange” to anchor the new evening show, has held forth on everything from Tesla to Salesforce during rehearsals, ready to give late-breaking news to CNBC’s market faithful.

When it was announced last month that a remake to the 1969 classic “Easy Rider” was in the works, some cinephiles reacted, well, badly. To some, the news that Hollywood was taking this generation-defining piece of filmmaking and remaking it seemed akin to treating the original film much like its own iconic, tragic ending, leaving “Easy Rider” in a flaming ditch on the side of the road.
The producers of the new film, Maurice Fadida and Eric B. Fleischman of Defiant Studios, knew going in to the project that some fans would scream that an “Easy Rider” remake would be treading on “sacred ground.” And in speaking with IndieWire, they explained they don’t want to touch the original or even directly “remake” it, but rather find a new spin on the story that would speak to a contemporary audience.
But even they have to laugh at the immediate reactions.

After taking over a fourth hour of MSNBC’s morning schedule, Joe Scarborough, Mika Brzezinski and Willie Geist are eyeing real estate in primetime.
Should “Morning Joe” fans get ready for an occasional jolt of “Evening Joe”?
The anchors and network are discussing the idea as rival CNN attempts to jump-start its own morning programming. Scarborough says he would like to launch a series of quarterly — potentially even monthly — hourlong primetime specials that could take viewers on deep dives into topics like voting rights or into some of the challenges facing American cities. “It would be an opportunity to branch out and do some different things,” says Scarborough. MSNBC viewers have seen “Morning Joe” specials in primetime before, points out Rashida Jones, president of MSNBC. “I really want the content to drive the placement, and as the year plays out and the ideas play out, that will drive where these things hit.

Like many other TV anchors at business-news outlet CNBC, Shepard Smith finds himself facing a closing bell.
The veteran journalist, who arrived at the NBCUniversal venue in the fall of 2020 with a mission to grow the network’s audience in early evening with a non-partisan general-news program, will leave CNBC as it focuses more intently on its core product: information tailored for viewers interested in the markets and personal finance.
Smith’s last show will air later in November, and CNBC intends to replace his program, “The News with Shepard Smith,” with an evening hour devoted to business news in early 2023. The anchors for that program will be named at a later date, and it remains to be seen whether CNBC will select candidates from among its current roster or seek to woon someone from outside its ranks.

Fox Weather wants to blow through your devices.
The Fox Corp. climate-news service, which got its start as a streaming app when it launched in October of last year, is not so quietly winding its way into as many platforms as it can. On Thursday, Fox Corp. and smart-tv manufacturer Vizio unveiled an expanded distribution agreement that puts Fox Weather on Vizio WatchFree+ alongside existing Fox ad-supported channels. Since its debut the app has been downloaded more than two million times.
“We grew the Fox Weather ecosystem,” says Sharri Berg, who leads Fox Weather as well as news and operations for the parent company’s TV stations. “We started as a mobile app with a light linear network on it.” Over the course of the past several months, Fox Weather has launched on venues such as Roku and Amazon; on local Fox station digi-nets: and even on the weekend schedule of the Fox Business Network.

Bill Maher is a famously outspoken fan of marijuana (and champion for its legalization) and he’s also notorious for his audacity when it’s comes to skewering the powerful or calling out the corrupt. But on Friday night’s episode, the host of HBO’s Real Time with Bill Maher revealed that those two signature aspects of his public persona don’t necessarily go hand-in-hand anymore.
The comedian and Californian said that he’s sworn off of the marijuana edibles that are sold legally in his home state due to their unpleasant interaction with his growing anxiety about a certain vindictive Washington politician who tunes in to the show (even if its by accident) and thinks “due process” is how library books are returned.

MSNBC has canceled “Saturday Night Politics With Donny Deutsch” after a 13-episode summer run.
The show first premiered in May and ran just shy of four months, with its final episode airing on Aug. 17. MSNBC will fill the hourlong Saturday slot with reruns of Chris Hayes’s weeknight show, “All In.” Meanwhile, Deutsch will still make appearances on the network’s “Morning Joe” and “Deadline White House” shows, Deutsch tweeted on Thursday.
“Saturday Night Politics” marks Deutsch’s fifth canceled TV hosting gig. Prior to his MSNBC show, Deutsch played a comedic version of himself on USA’s “Donny!” until 2016, hosted CNN’s “(Get to) The Point” for a week in 2013, and led CNBC’s “The Big Idea With Donny Deutsch” from 2004-2008. He also briefly hosted MSNBC’s “America the Angry” in 2010 but was pulled from the air following a segment criticizing the political and sports commentator Keith Olbermann.

Donny Deutsch has ended his Saturday night MSNBC show, but the network says it was not canceled but rather always was intended as a limited-run summer series.
In fact, the host and MSNBC said Saturday Night Politics with Donny Deutsch was the highest-rated regularly scheduled program in the 8 p.m. Et Saturday slot in the network’s 23-year history.. MSNBC said it averaged just over 800,000 viewers, and it has described the show as an experiment until it can determine what it wants to do on weekends.
While the show beat CNN Newsroom during its run, Fox News’ Watters World Saturday Night averaged 1.69 million viewers, according to Nielsen Media Research. In the 25-54 demographic, Deutsch’s show was third, with about 101,000 viewers to 156,000 for CNN and 209,000 for Fox News.
Starting this weekend, Saturday Night Politics will be replaced by a rerun of All In with Chris Hayes from a night earlier.

President Donald Trump emerged from a rare day of Twitter silence late this afternoon, renewing his frequent war on three of his big MSNBC critics in “Little” Donny Deutsch, Joe Scarborough and “his very angry Psycho wife,” (aka Mika Brzezinski).
Trump reminisced about his days on NBC’s The Apprentice, recalling how Deutsch would beg him to appear on the show. “I would let him come on though he (& Erin) had very little TV talent.” The “Erin” is CNN’s Erin Burnett, if you’re following at home.
“Then, during the 2016 Election, I would watch as Joe Scarborough & his very angry Psycho wife(?) would push Donny to the point of total humiliation. He would never fight back because he wanted to stay on TV, even on a very low rated show, all in the name of ambition!”

Willie Geist, one of TV’s early-morning regulars, knew he was in for a dangerously late night.
Though he rises at 4 a.m. on most days, the NBC News and MSNBC anchor has served as master of ceremonies for the annual National Board of Review awards for the past few years. New York City mayor Bill de Blasio strongly suggested on Friday that Amazon boss Jeff Bezos pulled out of his plans to build a second corporate headquarters in the Big Apple because of fallout stemming from his relationship with news anchor Lauren Sanchez.
“I think we could all say that unusual things were happening within the Amazon family at that moment in time — and that was said politely,” de Blasio said on “Morning Joe” Friday. “There were clearly some unusual factors happening. We know who the ultimate decision maker is. I only am saying it was an unusual environment.”
On set, several regular guests immediately pounced, demanding to know if the mayor was specifically referring to the Bezos affair with Sanchez. “You think his affair had something to do with that?” Donny Deutsch asked.

President Donald Trump had a tough TV morning.
Assuming he was getting his daily morning small-screen briefing, he may have seen the gang at Fox & Friends scolding him Wednesday for getting outplayed by Omarosa Manigault Newman after “taking the bait.”

Media Matters for America has hired Talia Lavin, a former fact checker for The New Yorker, less than a month after she left the magazine over a tweet falsely accusing a disabled Ice employee of having a Nazi tattoo.
The liberal media watchdog group will employ Lavin as a researcher on far-right extremism, she said Friday in a tweet.
“Some personal news: I’m delighted to be joining Media Matters (@mmfa) next week as a researcher on far-right extremism and the alt-right, part of a brand-new team,” she wrote. “I’ll be working full-time with some of the smartest, most passionate people in media right now and I’m psyched.”

The set of “Morning Joe” declared on Friday that Donald Trump’s relationship with Vladimir Putin was not just bad for the country — it was treasonous.
“As a branding guy, I have no trepidation at all about assigning that treason word,” said frequent “Morning Joe” guest Donny Deutsch. “We have a treasonous president.”
“I don’t think it’s extreme,” Deutsch said of using the word treason to describe the president. “I think that Trump, like a petulant child, any time in any way he’s rebuked about anything his response is to … double down.”

Joe Scarborough said there was a lot of blame to go around as President Donald Trump became poised yesterday to permanently alter the ideological balance of the Supreme Court, but he also had a moment of anger on Thursday’s “Morning Joe” saved for Hillary Clinton.
“Hillary Clinton didn’t visit Wisconsin and didn’t visit Michigan enough,” said Scarborough. “Hillary never had a message. She ran a horrible campaign, and this is just, this is a consequence of it.”
Scarborough compared Clinton unfavorably to Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, the 28-year-old woman who unseated 10-team Democratic Rep. Joe Crowley in a New York primary earlier this week, saying that Ocasio-Cortez’s message was “more inspiring in three minutes than what Hillary Clinton gave us in two years.”

‘Morning Joe’ closed out a full week covering President Trump’s policy of separating the families of undocumented migrant children at the U.S. border with a blunt rebuke to Trump voters: if you voted for Trump, you are a Nazi.
The comparison was made by the show’s longtime contributor Donny Deutsch.
“If you vote for Trump, then you, the voter, you, not Donald Trump, are standing at the border, like Nazis going ‘you here, you here,'” he said. “And I think we now have to flip it and it’s a given, the evilness of Donald Trump. But if you vote, you can no longer separate yourself. You can’t say, well he’s okay, but, and I think that gymnastics and I think that jiu-jitsu has to happen.”

Have Michael Avenatti’s nonstop media appearances gone too far?
The answer may be yes according to “Morning Joe” analyst Donny Deutsch, who warned that the lawyer representing Stormy Daniels in her legal fight with Donald Trump is at risk of “jumping the shark.”
“I’m just feeling over the last few days — a little bit — he feels like he’s jumping the shark a little bit,” said Deutsch on set Friday. “You almost get the feeling he’s already auditioning for Jeff Zucker and Phil Griffin for his next TV spot.”

“I wouldn’t be on the air six hours a day at this point,” Deutsch added, saying that it appeared Avenatti was “losing a little sight of where he is and the position he’s in.”
“Morning Joe” co-host Joe Scarborough seemed to disagree, noting that Avenatti had been getting under Trump’s skin and was only following the same playbook of the president himself.
In recent days, Avenatti has attacked the president’s personal attorney, Michael Cohen, and the payments he received from a Russian oligarch and various U.S. companies. Deutsch is known to be personally close to Cohen and often speaks about his “friend” on air with Scarborough.

Deutsch isn’t alone in his assessment that Avenatti may be doing a bit too much television. Avenatti addressed critics earlier this week saying that his media blitz has been deliberate and has achieved results.
“There’s been some criticism about our media strategy and how often I’ve been on CNN and how often I’ve been on your show and other networks, et cetera. It’s all a bunch of nonsense because here’s the bottom line, Anderson, it’s working. It’s working in spades,” he said — while on set with Anderson Cooper, Tuesday.
“One of the ways that it’s working is because we’re so out-front on this, people send us information. People want to help our cause. People contact us with information,” he added.

The set of “Morning Joe” wasn’t impressed with Donald Trump’s marathon interview on “Fox & Friends” Thursday morning. On set, there was wide agreement, of course, that it was a disaster and that Trump sounded like a nut.
“There are a variety of things about that interview, which is unhinged obviously, in a variety of ways,” said show regular John Heilemann. “He sounded like a person having a manic episode on national television. The high pitch of the voice, the scratchiness, the palpitating quality of it.”
The cast was in wide agreement that Trump waded into dangerous territory by distancing himself from his former lawyer-fixer Michael Cohen in the interview.

“My sense of it — talking to people who are friends of Michael’s — is 10 days ago he was freaked out, thinking hard about whether he might have to make a deal with the prosecutors to turn on Donald Trump, and then in the last few days you started hearing, you know, Michael’s in a better place. He’s feeling confident. He thinks he’s seen and heard the messages from Donald Trump.”
Heilemann — and known Cohen friend Donny Deutsch — said after “Fox & Friends,” Cohen was back into freaked out mode.
The president’s phone call to “Fox & Friends” was once a regular part of the show and the 2016 presidential campaign, but fell off markedly after Trump became president. Still, Trump is known to watch the program regularly and often tweets his thoughts and commentary on their segments in real time.
During his call, Trump spoke in a series of long monologues with few interruptions and railed against a series of televisions hosts and programs — including Fox. Host Brian Kilmeade noted at one moment that it might be better if the president watched less television.

The set of “Morning Joe” reacted with sorrow and sadness Wednesday to the news that Trump attorney Michael Cohen’s office had been raided by the FBI. On set, normally tough personalities like Mika Brzezinski and Donny Deutsch said that Cohen was actually a sweet person faced with a terrible choice.

“Very gentle,” Brzezinski added almost in spite of herself. “I’ve seen him a couple of times.”

A gentleman facing an identity crisis — perhaps. But that would likely be news to many of the reporters who have jousted with him in the past including, then-Daily Beast correspondent Tim Mak, who wrote a piece about Trump’s marriage to his first wife Ivana.
“I will make sure that you and I meet one day while we’re in the courthouse.
