Exclusive: After a long journey across broadcast, cable and streaming, defying the odds multiple times, Nasim Pedrad’s praised coming-of-age comedy series Chad is coming to an end. A spokesperson for the Roku Chanel, which released Chad’s second season, confirmed to Deadline that the streamer will not be proceeding with future seasons.
Roku originally had committed to taking on the finished but unaired second season of Chad (along with Season 1 repeats), so a Season 3 was considered a long shot but a possibility. It is now not happening, officially ending the show’s wild ride.
Chad‘s origins date back more than eight years when SNL alumna Pedrad started developing the comedy for Fox. The broadcast network picked up the half-hour, starring Pedrad as teen Persian-American boy Chad Amani, to pilot in February 2016.

TV crossovers and interconnected universes are the best things when it comes to fandom. But they can be super tricky, for it involves combining separate ongoing storylines into one project. It’s a daunting task for the creative group, which if not done correctly can end up being like Zooey Deschanel’s New Girl and Brooklyn 99 crossover.
Zooey Deschanel as Jessica Day in New Girl
Although people appreciated watching Zooey Deschanel in Brooklyn 99, it wasn’t a great idea to combine the comedy styles of the two shows. Further, what created the biggest mess out of the crossover was featuring the same actors in different roles in the two shows.

It’s easy to forget, amid all the cuts and consolidation in the entertainment industry, that Nasim Pedrad’s Chad was one of the first victims of the Zaslav-ification of Warner Bros. Discovery. The TBS sitcom, which stars Pedrad as the self-centered title character, was set to return in April 2022 when it was struck down by the Zas just hours before the second season was scheduled to premiere.
The awkward teen comedy hadn’t exactly captured the zeitgeist when it premiered in 2021; Pedrad’s decision to play a teen boy generated more headlines than any other element of the show, which originally got a pilot order from Fox. The decision to flat-out pull the completed season rather than dump it on streaming was still shocking, and it was hardly the last of its kind.

Exclusive: Roku has begun removing titles including scripted shows Most Dangerous Game starring Christoph Waltz and Slip from Zoe Lister-Jones.
It is the latest streamer to remove titles from its service following similar moves by Paramount+, Disney+, Warner Bros. Discovery’s Max and AMC Networks.
Roku revealed yesterday that it was set to remove some content as part of a cost-cutting drive that also saw around 300 employees laid off. It said that it would take a hit of between $55M-$65M for removing “select existing licensed and produced content from company-operated services on its TV streaming platform”.
The company will, however, continue to order original series and sources note that this process is part of its regular review of programming.

Childlike rejoinder or existential inquiry?
In the case of Paul Reubens and Pee-wee Herman, his most indelible creation, the answer is an unambiguous, “Yes.”
Inclusive disjunctions of this sort are almost unavoidable when it comes to Reubens and Pee-wee.

Yes.
Was Pee-wee’s Big Adventure a comedy for adults or an absurdist fairy tale for children?
Yes.
Was Pee-wee’s Playhouse, the astonishingly avant-garde series built around the character and his outlandish and occasionally inanimate friends, a Saturday morning variety platform directed at kids or a satire on Saturday morning variety platforms directed at grownups?

Elijah Wood may be having a bit of a moment with "Yellowjackets," but it's far from his only headline-grabbing role. Wood has been steadily working on our screens since the late 1980s, with a varied career that includes acting in TV and movies, doing voice work, producing and writing, and more.
While Wood definitely has become a permanent fixture in pop culture thanks to his role in "The Lord of the Rings," his career is much more eclectic and varied than just the blockbusters. He's the kind of actor who seems to delight in taking unusual and creative projects, with roles ranging from outright comedy and family-friendly hits to thrillers, dark dramas, and everything in between. Let's take a look back at some of his big-screen highlights over the years.

This article contains Major spoilers for all seven seasons of New Girl
Let’s clear something up straight away: there are no bad episodes of New Girl.
In fact, this list could easily have started with the pilot and moved right on through to the incredibly moving season seven finale.
New Girl is one of those rare sitcoms you fall in love with from its first moments. The combination of unapologetically quirky, original writing, and the comic chemistry of the main cast – Max Greenfield as Schmidt, Jake Johnson as Nick, Hannah Simone as Cece, Lamorne Morris as Winston, Dayman Wayans Jr as Coach, and of course Zooey Deschanel as Jess – makes it a lovable and rewatchable hit.
Here are what we believe – after much soul searching – are New Girl’s 20 best episodes (plus a few honorable mentions):

The creators behind series “Tuca & Bertie,” “Gordita Chronicles,” and “Whistleblower” have issued statements alleging the Warner Bros. Discovery merger has had disastrous effects on female Poc showrunners.
The statements, published as an addendum to a December 21 Writers Guild of America report on the effects of mega-mergers, are titled “How the Warner Bros. Discovery Merger Hurts Workers and Diversity.” The report claims the Wbd merger de-prioritized female-led series featuring stars of color and ultimately led to the shows’ cancellations.
“The casualties of this mega-merger include numerous projects created by, featuring and/or centering the experiences of women and people of color,” the statement reads, citing multiple projects “including ‘Batgirl,’ one of very few mainstream superhero films to feature a Latina lead actress; ‘Full Frontal’ with Samantha Bee, one of a handful of woman-hosted late-night shows; ‘Gordita Chronicles,’ a series about a Dominican immigrant family whose showrunner was a Latina woman; ‘Tuca & Bertie,...

The showrunners of “Tuca & Bertie,” “Gordita Chronicles” and “Whistleblower” have rallied together under WGA West to call out the ways in which they believe the merger that created Warner Bros. Discovery led to the abrupt cancellations of their series.
The comments came in a new “Broken Promises Bulletin” — an addendum to a December 2021 report on the harm of mega-mergers — published Monday by the Writers Guild of America West, titled “How the Warner Bros. Discovery Merger Hurts Workers and Diversity.”
“The casualties of this mega-merger include numerous projects created by, featuring and/or centering the experiences of women and people of color,” the post states, citing multiple titles that have been scrapped by the David Zaslav-led company since the April 2022 close of the merger of WarnerMedia and Discovery, “including ‘Batgirl,’ one of very few mainstream superhero films to feature a Latina lead actress; ‘Full Frontal With Samantha Bee,’ one...

Warner Bros Discovery, whose bold business model involves paying creators to create something that they won't bother airing once it's finished, is back at it again! This news might come as a shock, given just last week, Wbd CFO Gunnar Wiedenfels promised the company was finally finished with its tax write-off cancelation frenzy but it turns out that there are still a couple of stragglers left for the company to kill.
Once upon a time, the world of TV renewals was simple: you watch a season, anxiously await updates, and eventually read the good (or devastating) news about whether or not your new favorite show will be returning. But lately, that process has become grimly muddled. As it turns out, renewals can be revoked. But wait — it gets worse! TNT will not air the fourth and final season of “Snowpiercer,” a rep for the network confirmed to TheWrap on Friday, but it is helping shop the sc-fi series to other networks.
“This was a difficult decision, but our admiration for the talented writers, actors and crew who brought ‘Snowpiercer’s extraordinary post-apocalyptic world to life remains strong,” the network said in a statement.
“We have been working collaboratively with the producers since last year to help the series find a new home where fans can continue to enjoy the compelling story and exceptional visual experience. We look forward to working with them on future projects,” the statement continued.

The Boy Who Lived evidently survived the apocalypse. TBS released the official trailer for the fourth season of its “Miracle Workers” anthology on Tuesday, showing “Harry Potter” star Daniel Radcliffe leading a sitcom-riff on the “Mad Max” franchise.
Created by Simon Rich, previously known for the Fxx series “Man Seeking Woman,” “Miracle Workers” is a comedy anthology series, with each season telling a new story with the same cast playing different characters. Along with Radcliffe, each season features Steve Buscemi, Geraldine Viswanathan, Karan Soni, and Jon Bass in the main cast.
Season 1 was set in the modern day, focusing on a pair of angels attempting to avert Earth’s destruction, while Seasons 2 and 3 were period pieces set in the English Dark Ages and the American Oregon Trail, respectively. For the fourth season, the show heads to the future, with Radcliffe portraying a warrior navigating a post-apocalyptic wasteland. When he encounters a warlord (Viswanathan), sparks fly,...

After decades on broadcast — most recently on Fox — the 71st Miss Universe competition is the latest TV event making the move to streaming. The Roku Channel has sealed a one-year deal to be the official English-language home for Miss Universe, which will stream live from New Orleans on January 14, 2023, at 7 p.m. Et.
Among the changes in the move: Steve Harvey, who had hosted for five years as part of the pageant’s deal with Fox, also won’t be back. According to Miss Universe Organization CEO Amy Emmerich, a new host — expected to be a female — will be announced in the coming weeks.
“My goal was really to make sure we led with a female lens this next go-around,” Emmerich says. “We should hopefully have that to talk about soon… It was a rare opportunity to be able to kind of restart in a whole new place.”

The new “Degrassi” series that had been ordered at HBO Max is no longer moving forward, Variety has confirmed.
The new entry in the Canadian high school drama franchise was originally picked up for 10 episodes at the streamer back in January. It was to be produced by franchise owner WildBrain and developed by showrunners and executive producers Lara Azzopardi and Julia Cohen.
The series would have been the sixth TV show in the franchise to date. The others are “The Kids of Degrassi Street,” “Degrassi Junior High” “Degrassi High,” “Degrassi: The Next Generation,” and “Degrassi: Next Class.”
This marks the latest project to get scrapped at HBO Max since the closing of the Warner Bros.- Discovery merger in April. Most famously, the HBO Max film “Batgirl” was shut down despite the fact it was in post-production. Likewise, the TBS comedy series “Chad” from Nasim Pedrad was canceled just before...

The advertising slump claimed another corporate victim on Wednesday, with streaming platform Roku forecasting that its fourth-quarter results will come in well below Wall Street expectations as a weakening economy tempers companies looking to sell their products on television and streaming.
Roku reported that it added 2.3 million subscribers during the three months ended Sept. 30. However, while investors cling to how many people are paying for the service and the fact that streaming hours on the Roku Channel increased 90 during the period, the company telegraphed that the final quarter of the year won’t be impressive.
Shares tanked in after-hours trading after Roku warned investors that it expects revenue of roughly 800 million. That’s a decline of 7.5 from the year-ago period. The stock plunged 22 to roughly 54.
“As we enter the holiday season, we expect the macro environment to further pressure consumer discretionary spend and degrade advertising budgets, especially in the TV scatter market,...

Television fans were shocked earlier this year when "Saturday Night Live" alum Nasim Pedrad's "Chad" was canceled by TBS mere hours before the second season was about to premiere. This wasn't an instance where an episode or two were finished and the team was in the process of shooting the rest of the season, either. Season 2 of "Chad" was signed, sealed, and delivered, only to have their plug pulled just before airtime. A few months later, HBO Max quietly dropped the series' first season from their streaming platform, effectively yeeting "Chad" into the digital void, only to remain a distant memory. The cancellation seemed to be collateral damage in the wake of the Warner Bros. Discovery merger, which inspired some pretty drastic changes for both TBS and sibling cable channel TNT.

Nasim Pedrad’s cringe comedy series “Chad” has been saved from certain death. The series, which aired its first season on TBS, will move to the Roku Channel for Season 2, IndieWire has confirmed.
In July, TBS pulled Season 2 from its programming schedule the day it was scheduled to premiere and confirmed to several outlets that the season would not air on the network. The show, which had already wrapped production on the season, was the highest profile consequence of restructuring at the channel following the Warner Bros. Discovery merger. The merger prompted the company, under the leadership of David Zaslav, to cut original scripted programming from TBS and other networks in its portfolio.
A premiere date for Season 2 of the show has not yet been announced. In addition to airing the new season, Roku has also acquired non-exclusive streaming rights to Season 1. This isn’t the first time the video...

After being pulled from TBS’ lineup earlier this year, the second season of Nasim Pedrad’s coming-of-age comedy series Chad will run on The Roku Channel. The show was one of many scripted casualties at the network following the WarnerMedia-Discovery merger. Now Roku, which previously acquired Quibi‘s library, will show the second season, which was originally set to debut in April and then in July. Roku will also carry the non-exclusive rights to Chad’s first season, which was the number 1 new scripted comedy for the network at the time. The SNL alum stars in the titular role, and the show has been a passion project for her for a decade, as it was initially developed for Fox before moving to TBS following its pilot. The show follows the trials and tribulations faced by a Persian-American teen boy named Chad Amani. Although surviving the chopping block would...

Exclusive: Chad has found a new home.
The second season of Nasim Pedrad’s coming-of-age comedy series will run on The Roku Channel after it was scrapped as part of the cost-cutting measures at Warner Bros. Discovery cable network TBS.
As Deadline revealed, Chad was one of a number of shows and movies — completed or in various stages of pre-production or production — that were dropped after CEO David Zaslav took charge of the combined company. While the others were permanently shelved to use as corporate tax write-downs, following a plea by Pedrad to the new TBS leadership, she and her team were allowed to shop the series.

The axe continues to fall over at TBS with the cancelation of "Full Frontal With Samantha Bee" (via THR). The show confirmed the news on Twitter, saying that they were "thankful" that they got to "annoy the right people every week."

Full Frontal With Samantha Bee is over.
TBS has officially canceled the late-night series after seven seasons.
“As we continue to shape our new programming strategy, we’ve made some difficult, business-based decisions. Full Frontal With Samantha Bee will not return to TBS,” a network spokesperson explained to Deadline.
“We are proud to have been the home to Full Frontal with Samantha Bee and thank Sam, and the rest of the Emmy-nominated team for their groundbreaking work."
"We celebrate this extraordinarily talented cast and crew and look forward to exploring new opportunities to work with them in the future.”
The series has had a long and successful run on the cable network, and despite TBS as a whole going through a period of change, many thought it would continue.
Following the Warner Bros. Discovery merger, the future of TBS has been in doubt.

On May 5th, the cable channel announced that Chad's second season would launch today, July 11th. Somewhere along the way, those plans changed and it's now been revealed that the cable channel has dropped the show permanently.

Nasim Pedrad’s “Chad” was pulled from TBS’ programming hours before Season 2 of the comedy series was set to air on July 11, a spokesperson for the network confirmed to Variety.
According to the spokesperson, TBS is now looking for “the right home” for the series. As the news comes the day the premiere was scheduled, and a trailer has already been released, it’s clear that at least a significant portion, if not the entire season, has been shot and produced.
The pulling of “Chad” signals the continued demise of scripted content at TBS and TNT. As Variety reported exclusively in April, the Warner-owned cablers halted development of all new scripted projects as a result of the Warner Bros. Discovery merger, leaving already-popular series like “Snowpiercer” hanging in the balance. Wbd is overturning strategy for the so-called “TNets,” including truTV, in CEO David Zaslav’s efforts to cut 3 billion in costs,...
