In the fifth season episode of "The Twilight Zone," called "The Masks", an elderly millionaire named Jason Foster (Robert Keith) has gathered his daughter, her husband, and their two adult children for a Mardi Gras gathering. Jason, attended by his doctor (Willis Bouchey), is dying. He expects he'll be dead by morning. Jason also hates his daughter and her family. He sees Emily (Virginia Gregg) as spineless, her husband Wilfred (Milton Seltzer) as greedy, her son Wilfred, Jr. (Alan Sues) as dumb and oafish, and her daughter Paula (Brooke Hayward) as vain and shallow.
At dinner, the family members all feign politeness, but the audience trusts Jason when he says they are all terrible people who are only interested in inheriting his fortune. After dinner, Jason calls the quartet into the drawing room for a Mardi Gras game. The patriarch has commissioned five expressive, full-face masks that he and his family are to wear.

In early February, Republicans brought an FBI veteran to Capitol Hill whom they hoped would expose a “deep state conspiracy” among Democrats and their accomplices in the intelligence community. The GOP witness was part of a network of “whistleblowers” — funneled to congressional Republicans’ new Weaponization of Government panel by allies of Donald Trump — to reveal covert attacks on the former president and broad, anti-conservative discrimination.
But before the interview was over, it was the GOP witness who was failing to answer difficult questions — and Democratic committee staff doing the asking.

Long-running indie duo Beach House — who released the sprawling 18-song double album, ‘Once Twice Melody,’ just a few weeks ago — are making their film-scoring debut with Netflix’s “Along for the Ride,” which is described in the announcement as “a sweet summer film based on the popular YA book by New York Times bestselling author Sarah Dessen.” The film arrives on Netflix on Friday.
Written and directed by Sofia Alvarez (who wrote the screenplay for both “To All the Boys I’ve Love Before” and its sequel), “Along for the Ride” tells the story of Auden (Emma Pasarow), who’s decided to spend her last summer before college in picturesque Colby Beach, according to the synopsis. While other teens party in the sun, loner Auden spends her time roaming the streets after everyone else is asleep. Everything changes when she meets Eli (Belmont Cameli), a charming and mysterious fellow insomniac.

Spoiler Alert: Do not read if you have not yet watched the Dec. 14 episode of “The Bachelorette.”
Last week’s episode brought Bennett Jordan back into the pool of Tayshia Adams’ contestants. This week, another man returned: host Chris Harrison.
After leaving the property to help move his son to college, Chris returned to offer Tayshia some advice going into the week. They discussed the process of narrowing her remaining seven (eight with the returned Bennett) down to four leading into hometowns. “The honeymoon phase, if you will, is kind of over at this point,” Tayshia told him. “I started to really put my future into perspective.”
Blake Moynes’ relationship was the first to be considered, as the two-headed to their first one-on-one date. Blake — who had originally fallen hard for the season’s first Bachelorette, Clare Crawley — had asked Tayshia for patience as he navigated those feelings. Since then,...

Tayshia Adams still has yet to have her first rose ceremony as the new Bachelorette, but her pool of men has already dropped down from 20 to 19. On Tuesday night's episode, Jason Foster explained to Tayshia that he was leaving because he was still dealing with his feelings for Clare Crawley and he couldn't open his heart up to her.
"I took this journey not knowing what to expect and I let my walls down and I think I fell in love with Clare. And, unfortunately, she chose somebody else and my feelings were her for real," Jason said, referencing Clare's decision to leave the show to be with Dale Moss. "You deserve someone amazing. You deserve someone who is all in, and unfortunately, I can't do this anymore . . . I'm really sorry that I can't be here for you."

Tayshia Adams has been ushered in as ABC’s new Bachelorette. After replacing Clare Crawley during last week’s episode, Tayshia started her journey as the new Season 16 lead.
During a season of unconventional paths, her first night started traditionally as she took the time to meet each of the men. She started making quick connections before host Chris Harrison pulled her aside to introduce her to new contestants. Four more men joined the group with their own limo entrances: Spencer Robertson, Montel Hill, Peter Giannikopoulos and Noah Erb.

On the heels of last week’s episode, no one was happy in “The Bachelorette” bubble. The contestants hosted a group roast and titular Bachelorette Clare Crawley responded by interrogating each contestant about frontrunner Dale Moss. She ultimately did not give out a group date rose.
The men started to revolt, all feeling “discouraged” after the interaction. Even host Chris Harrison noticed, and confronted Clare about the situation.
“The path we’re on right now… we can’t continue,” he told her. “These are good guys and they’re not dumb — they know what’s going on.”
Clare began to articulate her commitment to Dale, even admitting that she reviewed his social media presence before the show taped — but swore that they never interacted via text or direct message. Throughout the conversation, it...

Spoiler Alert: Do not read if you have not yet watched the October 27 episode of “The Bachelorette.”
Red flags or red roses? The beginning of Tuesday night’s episode of “The Bachelorette” brought its fair share of both, as contestant Yosef Aborady kicked off the night by verbally attacking Bachelorette Clare Crawley before the rose ceremony.
He started the conversation as a collected critique of her behavior during last week’s group date but quickly shifted to an annihilation of her “classless” immaturity for hosting a strip dodgeball tournament. He denounced her actions and deemed her unfit to parent his own daughter. “I’m ashamed to be associated with you,” he said.
He continued to hammer what he considered as “red flags” — regularly returning to the idea that she was unfit to be a mother — before Clare interrupted and sent him home. Visibly shaken, she walked away to the tune of him yelling after her.

Spoiler Alert: Do not read if you have not yet watched the October 20 episode of “The Bachelorette.”
Clare Crawley knows what she wants, and she made it known during Week 2 of “The Bachelorette.”
After the first eliminations, 23 men remained to fight for a chance at love with the Season 16 lead. The week was divided into three dates: two group outings and a one-on-one, where all but three were given more quality time with the Bachelorette.
The first outing included nine suitors, but seemingly became an excuse for Clare to spend time with frontrunner Dale Moss. Each man took turns expressing the different love languages and shared words of affirmation and gifts before they shifted to physical touch. Each rotation, Dale moved further ahead in the imaginary leaderboard.
Traditionally after a date, the group reconvenes for an evening cocktail party. Framed in the continued theme of love languages, the men were...

Spoiler Alert: Do not read if you have not yet watched the October 13 season premiere of “The Bachelorette.”
For once, maybe Season 16 of “The Bachelorette” could be the most dramatic ever.
The tagline was familiar, but this season’s conditions were anything but for viewers during Tuesday night’s premiere. Host Chris Harrison said it best: “How are we going to make a romantic dating show during times like these?”
It started with a production delay. After Clare Crawley was announced as the lead back in March, production — and the world — was shut down amid the global coronavirus pandemic. Since then, production recast, found a new location and established a safety isolation bubble within La Quinta Resort and Club in Palm Springs, Calif. After a four-month hiatus, Clare and her 31 men were finally welcomed back for a chance to find love. While the environment and conditions had shifted, the core...

New Orleans -- Thousands turned out Friday to see New Orleans rapper Mystikal perform one last time before returning to jail on a probation violation.
The rapper, whose real name is Michael Tyler, was released from a Louisiana prison in 2010 after serving six years for sexual battery and extortion. He returns to jail May 14 following a February arrest on a misdemeanor charge of domestic abuse battery.
In April, the rapper's attorney, Roy Maughan Jr., said Tyler and the victim in the domestic battery case were longtime domestic partners.
The rapper alluded to his legal problems on stage Friday
"I'm going through some things, but it's gonna be all right," Mystikal said to cheering fans. "Fellas if you get into it with your girl, just walk away. Me? I'm gonna run."
He also shouted: "Eighty-one days and I will be back," referring to the length of his pending jail term.

I think I'm the only person who moderated panels last week at both the Clinton Global Initiative in New York City and Opportunity Green, a green business conference in Los Angeles. While it may seem unfair to compare a gathering of the biggest machers in politics, philanthropy, finance, and the corporate world, to a scrappy little powwow of design startups and vegan caterers, there were some undeniable commonalities (like the attendance of folks from NBC and Coca-Cola). People in general, as they are at every conference, were far more interested in shmoozing and snagging as much free stuff as possible, getting onto the Wi-Fi and grabbing a power outlet, than they were in the sessions themselves. And more gravely, the ideas on the stage about how to make the world a better place, and in particular how to make big business more sustainable, were pretty played out.

Pig Hunt wrapped up some film festival coverage in 2009 by attending the Chicago Horror Film Festival and the film has been released already in the United Kingdom, but what of North America? The film, unfortunately, does not have North American distribution yet, despite being completed in 2008 in Boonville California. That is right, an American made horror film has been released in the United Kingdom before North America. How is that for globalization?
In the trailer there is much action, much bumbling, and some good laughs, as a group of rednecks terrorize some city-slickers. Check out the 3000 lb boar below.

Fango hosted the West Coast premiere of director Jim Isaac’s Pig Hunt last night at the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood, CA, and brought back a handful of photos (see them below), as well as an inherently warm feeling, given the festivities and the raucous audience response the flick received. Kicking off with an actual pig roast and hour-long set by Pig Hunt actor and celebrated blues musician Charlie Musslewhite, the event saw a packed courtyard and house.
On hand were Pig Hunt scripter Robert Mailer Anderson and director Isaac (pictured in first photo, who introduced the screening with Fango), plus cast members Travis Aaron Wade, Tina Huang, Howard Johnson Jr., Trevor Bullock, Rajiv Shah, Jason Foster, Nick Tagas and actor/Primus musician Les Claypool.
