Season two of “Loot” has come to an end, and while we’re not sure of what Apple TV+‘s metrics for success are these days, anyone who has logged into the streamer can’t help but notice how often the comedy series is the most watched program in its top 10. That’s probably good news for the show’s creators, Alan Yang and Matt Hubbard, as well as executive producer and star Maya Rudolph.

Pass the Courvoisie (and maybe some cough syrup?) because Loot just served up one boozy SNL reunion with special guest star Ana Gasteyer.
Gasteyer plays Grace in Episode 8, a fellow billionaire Molly used to hang with pre-divorce. Looking to expand Space for Everyone nationwide, Molly and her crew are on the hunt for more funding from other donors who are as “generous, relatable and hot-but-they-don’t-know-it” as Molly. “Molly at the start of Season 2 is nursing her wounds a bit, but has really taken charge of her life,” Maya Rudolph said of her Loot character at the show’s Deadline Contenders TV panel Saturday. “For her, that includes a wellness, a real growth at the Wells Foundation and really stepping into the role of being boss, which is really invigorating for her.”
After going on a worldwide bender, newly single 45-year-old Molly Wells (Rudolph), who became the world’s third-richest woman after divorcing her tech billionaire husband, decides to run the day-to-day operation of the charitable foundation she forgot that she had founded, much to its employees’ chagrin. Season 2 begins after Molly makes the mistake of sleeping with her ex John, played by Adam Scott, and decides to redouble her efforts at the Wells Foundation.

As a group, they discussed bringing billionaire Molly’s organization team together, not just as colleagues, but as a makeshift family. “If Season 1 is about them coming together, this season… they’re kind of a family already. So then we get to explore how they interact with each other and we get to see a lot more of the characters’ personal lives this season, which I think is also really fun,” Yang shares in the video interview, above. Apple TV+ “That’s my favorite part as well,” Rudolph chimes in. “The family aspect and seeing Molly figure out her new roles in her life, but also the bonds...

While most everyday people struggle to get enough money, Maya Rudolph wrestles with giving all of hers away when she returns as Molly Novak in the season two premiere of Loot, now streaming on AppleTV+.
In the season one finale of the comedy, which aired on Aug. 12, 2022, Molly declared plans to give away every penny of her $120 billion divorce settlement from tech tycoon John Novak (Adam Scott) after a publicly embarrassing business blunder. But even with the personnel issues as head of the Wells Foundation behind her — now that she and executive director Sofia Salinas (Michaela Jaé Rodriguez) are on the same page — Molly finds that being a career philanthropist isn’t as easy as it sounds.

Loot is officially returning for the latest chapter in do-gooder billionaire Molly Wells’ (Maya Rudolph) story on April 3, and she’s making some big changes in Season 2, according to creators Matt Hubbard and Alan Yang. “So much of Season 1 is sort of having her eyes opened to the world around her and these other people around her culminating in this huge promise she makes of, ‘I’m going to give all my money away.’ And I think through Season 2, the conflict is that is strangely easier said than done,” Hubbard teases. In other words, Molly struggles to find the right way to dole out her charity to those in need. “I think it’s very easy to give money to people who don’t deserve it or are bad actors, and so we spend some time exploring that,” Hubbard continues. As viewers will recall, Season 1 saw Molly promise to give...

Loot on Apple TV+, unlike what the name suggests, is not a heist show. This one is rather an endearing take on a rich woman who is never considered as an emotional person and constantly sidelined for having a lot of money. Created by Alan Yang and Matt Hubbard, the show stars Maya Rudolph as a 45-year-old divorcee struggling with her life and yearning to do something different.
Loot season 1 focused on Molly Novak, the wife of the tech billionaire John Novak. She was seemingly happily married to him until she learned of his infidelity. Molly got a divorce and a hefty alimony, a palatial home in Los Angeles with many helpers at her disposal. Molly, at the age of forty-five, had everything but a life of her own. She had her assistant Nicholas, who supported her through marriage and the divorce, but craved for genuine friends and partners, something...

Exclusive: Animal Pictures principals Maya Rudolph and Natasha Lyonne are going their separate ways on the producing front, in an amicable situation, Deadline can exclusively reveal.
Sources ascribed the split to a desire on the part of both producers to entertain differing creative paths and pursuits. Rudolph and Lyonne have made the mutual decision that Lyonne will continue to operate under the name Animal Pictures, as Rudolph branches off to produce independently.
Rudolph and Lyonne affirmed the news in the following statement shared with Deadline: “Moving forward, Natasha will operate under the name Animal Pictures while Maya will produce independently. We will continue to support each other and remain committed to the various projects we’ve developed together and have in the pipeline. We are excited for each other and what the future holds.”

Add Apple’s Loot to the list of shows that have been impacted by the writers strike.
Sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that the Apple comedy produced by Universal Television has shut down after picketers disrupted filming of the comedy starring and exec produced by Maya Rudolph. Production is currently on hold and it’s unclear when — or even if — it will resume.
Reps for producers Universal Television declined comment, and Apple did not immediately respond to THR’s request for comment.
A source close to the production said picketing members of the Writers Guild of America arrived at the Bel-Air mega-mansion that is used for filming the series Friday, and Rudolph is said to have retreated to her trailer, unwilling to return to work.

“Loot” co-creators Matt Hubbard and Alan Yang had only one person in mind to star when they created their Apple TV+ comedy about a newly minted female billionaire navigating her tabloid-catnip divorce and venturing to rebrand as a philanthropist: Maya Rudolph. And they were right on the money with the “Saturday Night Live” alum, who plays the obscenely wealthy Molly Novak. Rudolph understands the character beyond her “colorful elements”, seeing her instead as a “vulnerable” woman who must navigate through a “transitional period” in her life, she told TheWrap Monday as she discussed the Season 1 finale.
“I feel like they set Molly up for endless, limitless possibilities, which is, to me, the best spirit of this show and the joy of playing this character,” Rudolph said. “The money gives her the resources to feel like anything is possible, but I think when you pair that with someone having a real...

Spoiler alert: The following article discusses the “Loot” Season 1 finale, “The Silver Moon Summit.”
When creators Matt Hubbard and Alan Yang came up with their Apple TV+ billionaire spoof series “Loot,” they weren’t looking to be apologists for the ultra-wealthy. In trying to craft a “juicy” role for Maya Rudolph, they were instead inspired to explore “how much of an outsize effect people with that level of money have on all of our lives.”
The quasi-workplace comedy — which follows newly divorced Molly Novak (Rudolph), who is forced to start anew with 87 billion after unearthing her tech mogul husband’s infidelity — has been dancing around the ethical concerns of billionairedom from its genesis. Throughout the series, she tries to contribute to her charity foundation in a meaningful way in her attempts to course-correct for her inordinate capital. However, after a botched water machine demonstration for the fellow uber-wealthy in the finale,...

Apple TV+ is out to collect some more Loot.
The tech giant’s streaming service has renewed Loot, starring and executive produced by Maya Rudolph, for a second season. Loot was created by Alan Yang and Matt Hubbard. Rudolph plays Molly Novak, a billionaire whose seemingly perfect life falls apart when her husband of 20 years betrays her and her public spiral becomes tabloid fodder. After learning she has a charitable foundation, Molly and its no-nonsense head Sofia (Michaela Jae Rodriguez) form a plan to give away much of her fortune.
The show’s cast also includes Joel Kim Booster, Nat Faxon and Ron Funches.

For all its glorious trappings, Apple TV+’s new comedy “Loot,” which follows a billionaire looking to reinvent herself for the better, is all about the “heart underneath,” said its Emmy-winning star and executive producer Maya Rudolph.
This much is evident in the cast’s praise of Rudolph and each other, and extends to the series’ unlikely assembly of characters, all of whom try to bring out the best in each other. The ensemble features Golden Globe-winner Michaela Jaé Rodriguez (“Pose”) as the stern yet passionate nonprofit organizer Sofia. She initially keeps Rudolph’s Molly Novak at arms length. As an audience stand-in, her Sofia delivers lines that dismiss Molly’s actions as “sick, rich-person s—.”
“I loved the complete, sheer differences between these two women and I definitely wanted to dive into it,” Rodriguez said, adding that she hoped (and knew) she and Rudolph would get along: “That’s...

Maya Rudolph wasn’t exactly seeking out her next television series. Then Alan Yang and Matt Hubbard, with whom she’d made her last show, the afterlife dramedy Forever, reached out with an idea. They’d been watching Amazon founder Jeff Bezos’ longtime marriage to MacKenzie Scott implode when it came to them: What if they centered a series around the wife of a tech billionaire, who leaves her for another woman? The newly minted ex would need to start her life over, though without a prenup, she’d be doing so with 87 billion. Hubbard and Yang weren’t interested in making Loot, which debuts June 24 on Apple TV+, with anyone but Rudolph. “Hubbard and I worked on shows like Parks and Rec and 30 Rock, and to unlock the chemistry between an ensemble cast in a workplace comedy usually takes time, it...

Not looking to empathize with the brokenhearted woes of a billionaire? Well, we don’t blame you. But in Apple TV+’s upcoming Loot (the first three episodes premiere Friday, June 24), Maya Rudolph‘s well-intentioned divorcée might just win you over.
In the comedy created by Matt Hubbard (30 Rock) and Alan Yang (Master of None), Rudolph plays Molly Novak, a filthy-rich wife living the high life until she finds out her tech exec husband (Severance‘s Adam Scott) has been cheating on her with a much younger woman. From there, Molly must start anew — with an 87 billion settlement, of course.

Comedy shows have gotten a little dark of late, with bleak scenarios or introspective sad-com direction replacing belly laughs. Even Apple TV+’s crowning jewel “Ted Lasso” leaned toward heavier material in its second season. Of course, many sitcoms still serve plenty of jokes, and “Loot” falls into the latter camp. Combining a fish-out-of-water premise with a workplace location is hardly a new conceit. However, creators Alan Yang and Matt Hubbard have crafted a charming venture that effectively utilizes its strong ensemble to maximum impact.

The last time Alan Yang and Matt Hubbard collaborated with Maya Rudolph on a streaming comedy, it was Amazon’s Forever, an ambitiously strange and formally inventive examination of love and the afterlife. Other streaming credits for Yang have included Apple TV+’s Little America, an anything-goes anthological exploration of the immigrant experience, and the most recent season of Netflix’s Master of None, which audaciously (if not always successfully) extended the beloved, Emmy-winning series to include new characters and a new tone.
No strangers to using TV’s ever-widening landscape to tell often experimental stories, Yang and Hubbard are back with a new streaming comedy, Apple TV+’s Loot. The most unusual thing about Loot, it turns out, is where it’s airing.

If anyone can get us to sympathize with a clueless billionaire, it’s Maya Rudolph, right? The SNL alum has been a reliable source of laughs for two solid decades now, and it’s nice to see her get a well-deserved turn in the spotlight with the new Apple TV+ comedy Loot, premiering this Friday (I’ve seen the first five episodes). Loot is a pleasant enough viewing experience, with a few sharp one-liners and a truly top-notch cast. But it’s also slightly disappointing, hampered by repetitive plot dynamics and a confused tone.

“Loot” is a show built from the Workplace Comedy Misfits Playbook, calling on everyone from “dorky accountant” to “aloof assistant” to “plucky source of positivity.” On their own, in the moment, they’re each characters that work as they’re intended: to reflect and refract the personal ups and downs of whoever connects all of them. Yet it’s the choice of who’s being reflected that puts this show in a precarious position right from the start. Though “Loot” has a more-than-capable lead performer and a talented ensemble surrounding her, this Apple TV+ comedy digs a narrative hole for itself that it takes an entire season to climb out of.
“Loot” makes its start far away from that odd bunch at first, nestled comfily in the world of 0.00001er soirees. Our entree into that stratus is Molly (Maya Rudolph), the wife of Bezosian tech overlord John (Adam Scott) whose...

Maya Rudolph is a huge, versatile talent. That has been apparent from her Saturday Night Live days through most of her film and TV appearances in the 15 years since she left Studio 8H. She’s a fabulous singer. She can play larger-than-larger-than-life caricatures and understated human beings with equal verve. She seems game to do almost anything, and capable of pulling it off.
So why has it been so hard to make a great spotlight vehicle for her?

In one of the only times anyone’s told Molly (Maya Rudolph) the hard truth in the decades since her husband (Adam Scott) became a billionaire, she’s stuck in a private jet hangar somewhere in the middle of Oklahoma. Having just tried essentially to airlift the staff of her foundation, which she only realized existed after very messy public divorce, to Miami for the weekend, Molly’s forced to face the fact that she’s been living in a completely different reality from 99.9 of the rest of the world.
“Your life is different from everyone else’s here. It’s completely frictionless!” explains Sofia (Michaela Jaé Rodriguez), her perpetually unimpressed foundation director. “Anything you want to happen, happens.” Our lives are filled with friction … You can’t just pack us up and move us around like we’re luggage.”

Rudolph, along with cast members , chat about the premise of the show and why audiences will have their pre-conceived notions shattered pretty quickly, the camaraderie and fun the cast had together, and why the story has much more depth and potency to be labelled just a “comedy”.

Maya Rudolph has 87 billion reasons for a fresh start after becoming the most famous cheated on woman on the planet in new workplace comedy AppleTV+ series “Loot,” streaming June 24.
The 10-episode series is written and created by Alan Yang (“Master of None”) and Matt Hubbard (“30 Rock”), plus executive produced by lead star and “Saturday Night Live” Emmy winner Rudolph.
“Loot” centers on Molly Novak (Rudolph), who discovers her picture-perfect husband (Adam Scott) is cheating on her. After their divorce, Molly’s life is in shambles — and no amount of yachts, private jets to St. Barts, or crying in a massive candy room will fulfill her very rich but very lonely life. So, Molly turns to her non-profit empire to find herself in charity work and put all that divorce settlement money to good use.

Apple TV+ has unveiled the trailer for Maya Rudolph’s new workplace comedy series “Loot,” which the Emmy winner stars in and executive produces. The actress portrays Molly, a glamorous billionaire whose life has taken a turn toward the disastrous after being cheated on, alongside a star-studded cast featuring Adam Scott, Michaela Jaé Rodriguez, Nat Faxon, Joel Kim Booster and Ron Funches.
