The Walking Dead started as a comic series by Robert Kirkman, artists Tony Moore, and Charlie Adlard in 2003. Publishes primarily in black and white, the series ran for 193 issues before ending in 2019. AMC acquired the rights for the graphic novel from its creator in 2009, before spawning a full-fledged franchise of The Walking Dead.

Kirkman has also written the comic series for Invincible, which is currently busy producing the third season of its animated series on Amazon Prime. This is why there is speculation about his other comic series also someday getting an animated adaptation. The creator said that while he would love for The Walking Dead to get an animation, it can only happen under one circumstance.

“No, thank you”: HBO Shot itself in the Foot With a Stupid Condition That Cost Them The Walking Dead
Developed by Frank Darabont, who was also the showrunner on the first season, The Walking Dead is a post-apocalyptic zombie series. It is based on the comic book series by Robert Kirkman, Tony Moore, and Charlie Adlard. The show started in 2010, with an ensemble cast of Andrew Lincoln, Norman Reedus, Melissa McBride, Steven Yeun, among others, and ran for 11 seasons, concluding in 2022.

The show premiered on AMC, and continued there for its entirety. It even spawned a few spin-off shows like Fear the Walking Dead, Tales of the Walking Dead, and more. Years after his presumed death, Rick Grimes is not only alive and well, but fully back in action.
By the end of The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live, the Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurira-starring and produced limited series, the powerhouse duo of Rick and Michonne officially reunited. Not just with each other, but with their family and friends. Having dismantled the nefarious Crm from the inside, the titular “ones who live” earned their way back to the Alexandria safe zone they called home for so many seasons, with Rick reuniting with his daughter for the first time in years, and meeting his son Rj for the first time ever.
All’s well that ends well, right? Just one problem: it ain’t over just yet.

The Walking Dead is over, but like the zombies at the heart (er, brains?) of the tale, the franchise lives on.
Clocking in at 11 seasons and 177 episodes all told, the AMC horror drama shuffled off into the afterlife, only to birth a bevy of spinoff shows, most of which center on beloved characters from the original series like the Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and Michonne (Danai Gurira) reunion series The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live. Beyond those continuing adventures, there are also the spinoffs without too many overt ties to the “flagship” Walking Dead, including the very first of these spinoffs, Fear the Walking Dead (also now in the grave, joined there by the two-seasons-and-out The Walking Dead: World Beyond and single season anthology series Tales of the Walking Dead).

[This story contains major spoilers through the first two episodes of The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live.]
In the earliest days of The Walking Dead, no one was safe. Not even beloved comic book characters. Just ask Dale (Jeffrey DeMunn), who survives dozens of issues in Robert Kirkman and Charlie Adlard’s comics, only to die unexpectedly in the show’s second season.
But as the series wore on, it felt increasingly unlikely to lose any major players from the board, a notion that contributed to Christian Serratos requesting to be written out in the series finale. Rosita notwithstanding, the late stages of The Walking Dead were fairly easy on even the supporting cast. Gone were the days where a fan-favorite antihero like Michael Rooker’s Merle could bite the dust after so much build-up, or even moves as shocking as Glenn (Steven Yeun) and Abraham’s (Michael Cudlitz) twin executions in the season seven premiere, divisive as that story decision was.

Based on Robert Kirkman, Tony Moore and Charlie Adlard’s comic book series of the same name The Walking Dead is a post-apocalyptic horror drama series. The show stars Andrew Lincoln as the lead along with the cast including Norman Reedus, Steven Yeun, Chandler Riggs, Melissa McBride, and more. The series ran from 2010 to 2022 for eleven seasons with 177 episodes.
The third season of the television series was the season that had garnered the most attention and the series received positive response from the critics and the audience. AMC’s post-apocalyptic horror drama has been compared to HBO’s The Last of Us starring Pedro Pascal and now some eagle-eyed fans have pointed out the difference in Lincoln and Pascal’s pay per episode for their respective shows.

They finally did it. Just moments into the premiere episode of the new series "The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live," right after audiences catch a glimpse of hero Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) for the first time in over five years, the poor man finally loses a hand.
It's a twist that's been a long time coming for fans of Robert Kirkman, Tony Moore, and Charlie Adlard's "Walking Dead" comic books, yet this new spinoff series manages to make it feel utterly shocking nonetheless. In the original comics, cop-turned-world-weary apocalypse survivor Rick gets a surprise amputation courtesy of The Governor as early as issue 28. In the AMC "Walking Dead" universe, however, The Governor came and went an entire decade ago, with David Morrisey in the role of the eye-patch-wearing villain.

The Walking Dead, the long-running post-apocalyptic horror series based on the comic books by Robert Kirkman, Tony Moore, and Charlie Adlard, has finally come to an end after 11 seasons and 177 episodes. The show, which premiered on AMC in 2010, followed a group of survivors led by former sheriff Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) as they faced the threats of zombies, hostile humans, and their own inner demons in a world overrun by the undead.
The final season of The Walking Dead, which was split into three parts, adapted material from issues #175–193 of the comic book series and introduced two new factions: the Commonwealth, a large network of communities that had advanced equipment and over fifty thousand survivors living in their settlements; and the Reapers, a mysterious group of hostile survivors that attacked and took Meridian, the former home of Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and her new people, the Wardens.

After 11 seasons and 177 episodes, AMC’s The Walking Dead has finally shambled toward the moral coil. After becoming the House that Walt built, the network followed up in 2010 with a post-apocalyptic comic book adaptation by Robert Kirkman, Tony Moore, and Charlie Adlard. And although there were a few deviations from the original source material, showrunner Frank Darabont steered the ship in an engaging way that pleased veteran comic fans and television newcomers alike. That is until Darabont was fired after the second season, then things creatively and behind the scenes began to decay. According to AMC’s lawyers, he was terminated due to “his volatile and disturbing interactions with the staff and talent.” Darabont won a 2013 profit suit against AMC in 2021 with a settlement of 200 million. Following his win, a group of producers, including Kirkman himself, are looking for a similar settlement as the series finale approaches. The network has...

The end of The Walking Dead is only the beginning. That’s the teaser that closes the series finale of AMC’s zombie flagship. A Rick and Michonne series, Daryl’s spinoff, a Maggie and Negan show called Dead City, and more Fear the Walking Dead are indeed on the way, but for at least one major Twd character, this finale really is the end of the road.
While last week’s episode seemed to set up Judith Grimes as the finale’s big death after she was shot by the cowardly Pamela Milton — which would have mirrored Rick’s own demise in the comics at the hands of Pamela’s son Sebastian — Daryl and the crew are able to save her, in part due to a last ditch blood transfusion. Apparently Daryl was a universal blood donor all along but decided to wait...

"The Walking Dead" may be officially ending with its series finale tonight, but it lived up to its title long before that. Once one of the most talked-about shows on TV, the series became a shell of its former self, shambling along like a zombie even as it bled viewers and left critics increasingly underwhelmed. For the record, season 5 was when I jumped ship and the season 6 finale killed any chance of the show winning me back.
It may not have been in the same storytelling league as AMC's crown jewels like "Breaking Bad" or "Mad Men," but "The Walking Dead" was a ratings juggernaut. From 2010 to 2017, viewership for "The Walking Dead" kept climbing. Then during season 7, the trend reversed. The season's premiere, "The Day Will Come When You Won't Be," brought in 17.03 million viewers. The next episode, "The Well," dropped nearly 5 million to 12.46. Compare the show's ratings peak,...

Damn Them All #1 Written by Si Spurrier | Art by Charlie Adlard
The UK’s greatest occultist since Aleister Crowley, Alfie Hawthorne is dead. Luckily he passed his occult knowledge on to his niece Ellie. Which is just as well as there’s a gang war about to break out in London and 72 demons from the underworld are going to be in thick in the mix.
There’s shades of Hellblazer and a touch of Lock Stock & Two Smoking Barrels which makes this an utterly great read. If you had to choose a horror title for Adlard to follow up his epic work on The Walking Dead, this would definitely be it.

"The Walking Dead" is known for surprising exits. Yes, the long-running AMC drama is based on the equally long-running Image Comics series of the same name by Robert Kirkman, Tony Moore, and Charlie Adlard, so many fans could anticipate what was going to happen in the acclaimed live-action series. But it doesn't make it any less shocking when characters like Glenn Rhee, Beth Greene, and Carl Grimes exit the show in an emotional manner. Even when characters like Rick Grimes and Michonne make it out with their lives intact, it was still pretty shocking to see them leave after all that time fighting to...

This article contains spoilers for The Walking Dead.
It’s possible fans thought this day would never arrive for AMC’s long-running zombie drama, but as the series has shown plenty of times throughout its 12-year run of gruesome deaths, all things come to an end. With 16 of the 24 episodes of The Walking Dead Season 11 now out, only eight episodes remain to wrap up this post-apocalyptic epic.
The Walking Dead certainly saved its biggest arc for last. The first two parts of Season 11 have seen Daryl, Maggie, Carol, and the rest of our beloved heroes take on the Commonwealth, a massive, technologically advanced and well-armed settlement that seeks to preserve civilization as it was before the outbreak. But the survivors who’ve experienced countless horrors over the last 11 seasons know that there’s really no going back to the old way doing things and that the class-based prosperity the Commonwealth...

The first batch of eight episodes debuted last summer, and with the second block is coming next month, AMC has debuted a new trailer.

It's difficult to remember a time when not everyone had heard of "The Walking Dead," but adapting the beloved comic was initially a huge gamble for a network to take. At this point, the show seems as unstoppable as its titular zombie hordes! While the main series' 11th and final season will wrap up next year, there are multiple spinoffs, as well as film continuations in the works. It would seem that "The Walking Dead" will never die.

The Walking Dead has served up its share of infuriatingly repugnant characters over its 11 long years on AMC. Indeed, the show’s devoted audience is quite accustomed to seeing insufferable asshats torment and/or kill beloved characters, creating an empty, sour return on emotional investment.
But the show is saving the worst for last. Robert Kirkman and Charlie Adlard’s most infuriating creation of all, Sebastian Milton, is about to make his TV debut in this week’s episode. And the prospect of collectively raised blood pressure might prove to be a good thing for the series as it heads to its 2022 finish line.
Teo Rapp-Olsson has been unveiled as The Walking Dead’s on-screen rendition of Sebastian Milton, ending speculation about the character’s presence on the series—long expected as it may have been. The debut occurs in Season 11, Episode 7, titled “Promises Broken,” to which premium-paying AMC+ customers already have advance access.

You’d be forgiven for not knowing what’s going on with The Walking Dead at the moment.
Once TV’s most-watched series, AMC’s long-running zombie drama is…still one of TV’s most-watched series but significantly less so than it was at its peak. The show, based on Robert Kirkman and Charlie Adlard’s 193-issue comic of the same name, still receives plenty of active fans and bemused weekly onlookers. Here at Den of Geek we’re a bit of both.
We know people are still watching The Walking Dead, now three episodes into its 24-episode final season. And yet, it’s hard to shake the feeling that the average TV viewer’s knowledge of the show ended years ago. (Perhaps not coincidentally right around the time that Glenn died and actor Steven Yeun began his rightful ascent as a movie star).
Consider this feature a public service announcement then.

This article contains spoilers for The Walking Dead season 11 episode 1.
Throughout The Walking Dead season 11 premiere, “Acheron Part I”, it seems as though Eugene, Princess, Ezekiel, and Yumiko don’t have much of a compelling reason to stay at The Commonwealth.
Yes, the small group knows things are dire in Alexandria and they seek the help of a bigger, hopefully benevolent community. But it’s still hard to endure The Commonwealth’s curious initiation rites, which include probing questions like “How many bowel movements do you have a day? What do you use to wipe?”
Thankfully, the crew ultimately finds a reason to stay…and it’s a good one. As Eugenue and company try to make their escape (borrowing a tactic from A New Hope no less), Princess’s eyes are drawn to a big board that reads “Flagged For Expedited Assessment And Admittance To The Commonwealth” or as...

Unlike the readers of the original comic by Robert Kirkman and Charlie Adlard, The Walking Dead TV series fans are going into season 11 already knowing that this is the end of the road for many of their favorite characters. As the Commonwealth opens its gates to our heroes, the show also reaches the final section of its source material, whose 16-year run came to a shocking, unexpected end with issue #193 in 2019.
While things on the show won’t play out exactly like in the comics, AMC has still cast many of the characters who played a pivotal role in that final Commonwealth arc, including Michael James Shaw (Avengers: Endgame) as military commander Mercer and Laila Robins (The Blacklist) as Governor Pamela Milton, the leader of the massive post-apocalyptic settlement. And like in the comics, she won’t be the only Milton in charge on the show.

The Walking Dead season 11 will introduce the biggest status quo shift in the show’s history, bringing the massive Commonwealth city-state from the comics to life. Already, trailers have teased parts of this post-apocalyptic city, including a dark subway with ominous messages scribbled on its walls, and there’s plenty more to be revealed if the show follows the comic book source material.
The Commonwealth setting will also usher in quite a few new characters to the show, including military officer Mercer (Michael James Shaw), who commands the faction’s defense forces as well as protects the settlement’s leadership. If the comic book is any indication, Shaw will be front and center as the biggest addition to the cast when the show returns in August.
But Walking Dead fans won’t have to wait that long to get a first look at Shaw portraying Mercer on the show. A...

Few moments in the history of The Walking Dead will be as big as the return of Rick Grimes. Ever since he was transported away to parts unknown by the Civic Republic in season 9, fans have counted down the days until Rick’s upcoming Walking Dead movie, the first in a planned trilogy of films starring everyone’s favorite post-apocalyptic sheriff. For some fans, Rick’s return is the main reason to keep up with The Walking Dead universe of shows, which have slowly been teasing out details regarding where he might’ve disappeared to.
While this long-awaited movie still hasn’t started filming and doesn’t have a release date as of yet, Andrew Lincoln gave an update to SFX magazine (via Total Film) regarding when the picture might finally go into production. Originally, shooting was set to begin in 2019 but delays prolonged further by the Covid-19 pandemic have made a start date impossible.
