Film will screen at Outfest Los Angeles this summer.
Netflix has acquired worldwide rights to The Death And Life Of Marsha P. Johnson, David France’s follow-up to How To Survive A Plague.
The film premiered at Tribeca and explores the murder of the transgender legend and ‘street queen’ of NYC’s gay ghetto, who played a pivotal role in the Stonewall Riots of 1969 and established with fellow icon Sylvia Rivera the world’s first trans-rights organization, Star, in 1970.
When Johnson’s body was found floating in the Hudson River in 1992, police refused to investigate the case and presumed Johnson committed suicide. Twenty-five years after her death, activist Victoria Cruz picks up the case.
Netflix plans a global launch later this year on The Death and Life of Marsha P. Johnson, which is presented by Public Square Films. L.A. Teodosio produced and Joy A. Tomchin and Sara Ramirez served as executive producers.

Love Is Strange director reunites with UK distributor.
Altitude Film Distribution has acquired the UK distribution rights to Sundance drama Little Men.
The deal was negotiated between Altitude Film Entertainment’s Ellie Gibbons and Mongrel International’s Charlotte Mickie.
The acquisition is the second between Sachs and Altitude, having previously released the highly acclaimed Love is Strange.
Little Men follows Jake (Theo Taplitz), a quiet, sensitive middle schooler with dreams of being an artist. He meets the affably brash Tony (Michael Barbieri) at his grandfather’s funeral, and the unlikely pair soon hit it off.
The budding friendship is put at risk, however, when a rent dispute between Jake’s parents, Brian and Kathy (Greg Kinnear and Jennifer Ehle), and Tony’s mother, Leonor (Paulina Garcia), threatens to become contentious.
Sachs co-wrote the screenplay with Mauricio Zacharis (Love is Strange).
Producers are Lucas Joaquin (Beasts of the Southern Wild), Sachs, Christos V. Konstantakopoulos ([link...

Steve Karmen’s 70s radio jingle certainly comes to mind when considering the body of work from the likes of Scorsese, Spike Lee, Woody Allen. We can certainly add the name of Ira Sachs to this aural signifier/list. After Keep the Lights On (’12) and Love is Strange (’14) the future third volume in Sachs’ proposed trilogy of films also takes place in New York City and once again includes the notions of family and a certain displacement. Recently reading just how attached Sachs is to Sundance as both a patron and filmmaker, we’d think the natural route is for another Park City premiere but don’t be surprised if we receive the “silent treatment”. One of the most anticipated American indie films of ’16, Little Men (formerly known as Thank You for Being Honest) is a children’s family drama starring newcomers Michael Barbieri and Theo Taplitz alongside Greg Kinnear,...

With one of last year’s Sundance intoxicatingly cute natured discoveries in Lola Kirke (from Noah Baumbach’s Mistress America) toplining, the reasonable five-year morphing phase into a larger feature film canvas, and the welcomed addition of actress Breeda Wool who got to work with the same character, we could easily see this slice of Lgbt grab a coveted spot. While it might have the queer factor working for it, Awol, the feature film version actually stems from a 2011 Sundance premiered short of the same title. Production took place at the very beginning of the year with major thumbs up support from Tribeca Film Festival where the film (not yet finished) landed the Iwc Filmmaker Award and this past summer, Deb Shoval‘s feature debut was submitted to Champs-Elysées Film Festival’s Us in Progress. Chosen for Film Independent’s Fast Track and Ifp’s Narrative Completion Lab, Shoval...
