It’s new Mariah Carey music week.
The singer dropped her remix to Muni Long’s viral TikTok hit, “Made for Me,” on Wednesday and, a day later, she is releasing Portrait of a Portrait: Words + Music, the Audible Original podcast where the star unpacks her deeply personal 2018 song, “Portrait,” and unveils a new dance remix to the track.
“I love ‘Portrait’ and I just never thought, ‘Oh, we’re going to remake this song as a ‘dance’ remix.’ That was never on my mind. It was a very sad song, very much about where I was at in my life at that moment,” she says. “We did a remix that was very different from the original version. It was very much peppy and happy, all the while still being kind of morose. I think it definitely gives new life to the song.”

Boy band songs aren’t the most widely respected examples of popular music. Regardless, Michael Jackson’s boy band, The Jackson 5, gave us some of the best pop songs of all time. Rolling Stone named a Jackson 5 tune the best boy band song ever. Here’s a look at what the magazine had to say about it.
Rolling Stone praised boy band songs by The Jackson 5, One Direction, and others
Back in the day, boy bands were often dismissed as frivolous music for young girls. Critics usually had similar opinions about pop music as a whole. A new movement in the press called “poptimism” changed many hearts and minds, and now the latest boy band release will inspire just as much analysis as the latest Boy Genius album.
In 2020, Rolling Stone released a list of the 75 best boy band songs. It includes hits like The Monkees’ “Daydream Believer,” One...

Michael Jackson had a multi-decade career in music. He began as the star of the Jackson 5 before embarking on a solo career that saw him become the biggest star in the world during the 1980s. Unfortunately, Jackson’s fall from grace was quick as stories of drugs and accusations of inappropriate behavior toward minors overpowered his music. Elton John knew Michael Jackson for a long time and said his downfall was similar to Elvis Presley’s.
Elton John compared Michael Jackson’s fall from grace to Elvis Presley’s
Michael Jackson and Elvis Presley were kings; Elvis was the king of rock, and Jackson was the king of pop. Just like Jackson dominated the 1980s pop genre, Presley introduced rock n’ roll to a new generation in the 1950s and became a global sensation. Both were influential singers who died too early in their careers.

The story of Stax records has long been smoothed over and sculpted into a neat bundle of Southern aphorism and marketing copy: The Memphis home of “Soul Man” and Shaft and the Staple Singers was the more authentic (insert adjective like “gritty” or “greasy” or “Southern-fried” here), counterpart to the pop-oriented Motown; a rare space of multiracial utopia in a segregated Sixties South; a locus, for Blacks in Memphis at the time, for the expressions and dreams of a better American future that lost its way in 1968 when those dreams...

When The Playoffs of “The Voice” season 23 begin Monday, May 1, the artists of Team Chance the Rapper and Team Blake Shelton will take the stage for their chance to advance to the live shows. In this round, together with The Playoffs Part 2 on May 8 featuring Team Kelly Clarkson and Team Niall Horan, the coaches remain in control of the future of their team. Each coach will select two artists from the five performances to advance to the Top 8 live show on May 15.
For the first time ever, the coaches had a Playoff Pass at their disposal. In the battles, Chance gave the pass to Manasseh Samone, sparing her the heat of the Knockouts and sending her straight through to this Playoffs round. His team is rounded out by Kala Banham, who he stole from Team Kelly in the knockouts, and Jamar Langley, Ray Uriel and Sorelle who have all been with Chance since the blinds.

For any hip-hop historian, a certain party on August 11, 1973 looms large. In a rec room at 1520 Sedgwick Avenue in the Bronx, young Cindy Campbell threw a back-to-school jam with entertainment provided by her older brother, a Jamaican-born immigrant named Clive Campbell who’d renamed himself DJ Kool Herc. There, Herc put into action a new technique that would set the sonic template for hip hop — working not one but two turntables and playing two copies of the same record to extend the instrumental breaks. “One night I was watching the...

Joe Jackson -- the patriarch of the Jackson family -- has died ... TMZ has learned.
Family sources tell TMZ, Joe passed away at 3:30 Am Wednesday in L.A. Joe was hospitalized in June with terminal cancer. His family had been flocking to his bedside since. His wife, Katherine, had been at his bedside as were some of Joe's children and grandchildren. Joe had been battling health problems for some time now.
He was hospitalized back in 2016 after coming down with a high fever. But, he bounced back not long after and was seen partying in Vegas. His health was also fragile after a stroke and 3 heart attacks back in 2015. Doctors implanted a pacemaker.
Joe may have been the most successful parent managing his children in the history of music. He, with a little help from Diana Ross, engineered the careers of The Jackson 5, and then Michael and Janet Jackson as solo artists. The elder Jackson took a lot of heat from Michael and his siblings for abusing parenting and management practices, including physical brutality. Joe copped to it but, far from apologizing ... he said his methods made his kids successful and kept them out of jail. Michael's dad stood by him during his molestation trial. After Michael's death, Joe was criticized for trying to make money off his son's memory. Joe had 10 kids with Katherine, his wife of more than 60 years. The 2 did not live together and had a strained relationship for the last years of his life, but they frequently interacted. Joe was 89.

Is Darci Lynne, the 12-year-old ventriloquist, the one to beat on America's Got Talent? It looks that way. The pre-teen dedicated her performance to Mel B after receiving the Golden Buzzer and wowed the judges during the first Agt live show with jokes and a performance of Jackson 5's "Who's Lovin' You." "We saw 12 acts today, but only seven will go to the next round and that's going to be really hard. For me there were more than seven great acts tonight." As much as I love Guardians of the Galaxy, I'm still upset that Disney replaced The Twilight Zone-themed ride Tower of Terror with Guardians of the Galaxy - Mission Breakout!. Plus, it’ll feature a new take on Apollo‘s famed “Amateur Night,” with up-and-coming artists performing in front of the notoriously fickle Apollo crowd. Next in the installment of "obvious news finally being confirmed by important people", we can say that the Guardians of The Galaxy will be in Infinity War. The writers for Captain America: Civil War, and soon Infinity War, were interviewed by Nerdist in which the had a discussion on whether or not any of the powerful cosmic heroes would show up in some capacity in Infinity War. The writers then playfully made a comment on how both of Thanos' children showed up in Guardians Of The Galaxy, and that we should "do the math." Well, I don't know what more someone would need to finally have this news confirmed. Maybe the Russo's should tattoo "Gotg in Infinity War" on their forehead or something.
This info is also cool because we have an even broader mental image of the scope that these movies will have. This isn't going to be a personal film ala Civil War,...

[CUSTOM_PLAYER_BRIGHTCOVE "4842493958001"] Jackson Five star Tito Jackson has paid an emotional tribute to his "brother" David Gest, who died suddenly in London on Tuesday. "David was more like a brother to the family," Jackson told Piers Morgan on Good Morning Britain Wednesday. "He was a lot of fun. Always joyful. Always the jokester. David shared some good times with us. We enjoyed David very much." Gest was discovered in his room at the Four Seasons Hotel in London just after 10 a.m. on Tuesday. Scotland Yard released a statement shortly afterwards describing his death as "unexplained" but "non-suspicious at this stage." Full...

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 director James Gunn shared a rough thumbnail sketch of a scene he shot earlier today to his Twitter page. The image features the always cute Groot as he struggles to hold onto what appears to be some kind of lizard-like creature.
Towards the end of the first movie, Groot (voiced by Vin Diesel) sacrificed himself to keep his friends from being obliterated. The protective cocoon he enveloped the rest of team in protected them from the impact when the ship went down, but poor Groot wasn’t quite so lucky. His pal Rocket kept a sapling, however, and during the mid-credits scene we discovered that “baby Groot” was regrowing nicely, and annoying Drax with an adorable Jackson 5 dance routine.

Despite sacrificing himself in Guardians of the Galaxy to save his friends on Xandar, Groot wasn.t lost forever. Thanks to Rocket snagging one of his friend.s twig remains, Groot was able to regrow, and when The Jackson 5.s "I Want You Back" started playing, moviegoers saw Baby Groot dancing away. However, Groot won.t be back to full size in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, as evidenced by this new image from director James Gunn, where the young tree alien is holding something weird. It was probably never really in doubt, but director James Gunn has confirmed that Vin Diesel will return to give life to monosyllabic sentient tree alien Groot in Marvel’s Guardians Of The Galaxy sequel, which is currently titled Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.
To be fair, there was a small chance Groot wouldn’t return for Volume 2 – or at least, not the same Groot from the first film. Towards the end, the noble creature sacrifices himself to save his friends in that tear-jerking (shut up… you know you cried too!) “we are Groot” scene. His pal Rocket saves a sapling though, and just before the credits rolled, we see a bouncing baby Groot dancing to the Jackson 5.

The post-credits scene for the year's biggest Marvel movie snuck online this week with Thanos' appearance at the end of Avengers: Age of Ultron landing on YouTube.
The latest in an increasingly long line of fan-rewarding teasers, its arrival heralds a new and very dangerous list: Marvel's post-credit stings from worst to best.

Tony Stark confronts General Thunderbolt Ross
Tony Stark's hypercool presence is a welcome one - and it's neat that Ross's drink is Gamma green - but Marvel never followed up on this tag in future films and eventually had to make a special short to explain it. Incidentally, William Hurt will be back for Captain America: Civil War next year, where hopefully he won't punch any plot holes into the script.

My personal rankings shift every now and then, but I have a feeling that Guardians of the Galaxy will always be near the top of my favorite Marvel films. James Gunn's movie is full of fun moments, and one of the biggest crowd-pleasers was at the very end when Baby Groot dances to The Jackson 5's "I Want You Back." We already know why Groot didn't want to get caught by Drax while he was dancing, and we've seen Gunn himself do the dance (he provided the motion-capture for that sequence); now we get to relive the dance in stop-motion form, thanks to Kyle Roberts and Nathan Poppe.
Roberts took more than 1,000 photos and combined Poppe's hand-drawn background to make a heartfelt tribute to the 2014 film's final scene. Using a Hot Toys 1/4 scale Groot and Marvel Legends 6" Drax, Roberts spent dozens of hours capturing the look and feel of the Marvel film.

In the famously cute closing moments of Guardians of the Galaxy, we see the newly replanted baby Groot dancing, but trying to keep Drax from seeing him. Why didn’t he want Drax to see him boogie in his little flower pot? James Gunn explains.
In the hit Marvel film Guardians of the Galaxy, the repetitious tree-man Groot seems to meet a lethal fate but at the end, we see a reborn and replanted version of Groot in a small flower pot, alive and getting his groove on. Baby Groot is seen dancing adorably to the Jackson 5 song “I Want You Back.” The most amusing part is that he tries so hard to keep Drax the Destroyer (Dave Bautista) from seeing him get his wooden swerve on.
Some fans have wondered why baby Groot didn’t want Drax to see him dance. Well, director James Gunn has the answer to that.

Just in case any of you Guardians of the Galaxy fans forgot about Baby Groot, he's back to remind you of his adorable existence. Now that you've got him back on the brain, remember the end of the film when the sentient tree creature got his moment in the spotlight as he danced to Jackson 5's "I Want You Back?" But what was with Drax trying to catch him? Why would Baby Groot not let Drax see him dance? That's what we're about to find out. In a recent sit down with Doug Benson for his podcast Doug Loves Movies (h/t ComicBook.com), James Gunn received some questions about the totally awesome and now-iconic Baby Groot dancing scene—specifically about what the deal was between the tree-like creature's not letting the Drax the Destroyer see him bust a move. Hands down, the throwaway gag of 2014 belongs to Baby Groot at the end of Guardians of the Galaxy. The scene, which featured a baby version of Groot dancing to the Jackson 5's "I Want You Back" quickly became one of the film's most talked-about moments and even went on to inspire a line of various Baby Groot toys. Watch the scene below. The most fascinating part about this moment, though, is how it originated. The actual dance Groot performs was modeled after the film's director James Gunn. Here's what he told Yahoo a few months back: “Baby Groot dancing is 100 percent me. I was too embarrassed for anyone to be there, so I made everyone leave the room and I set up a camera and I videotaped myself dancing. Then I sent the video to the...

Maybe Guardians of the Galaxy isn't your favorite movie of the year, or even in your top 10. You still have to admit that you smiled when Groot danced to "I Want You Back" by the Jackson 5. The scene isn't just great because of the alien tree creature's moves, though. It's the combination of that and Drax all serious and polishing his blade in the background and his response to what he sees out of the corner of his eye. There's no denying that it's one of the most memorable movie moments of the year. While movies are more than just a serious of moments, there are definitely some standout scenes and lines that helped us to enjoy their respective features overall. Interstellar may have its problems, but it sure is stunning at many turns...

Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy was a monster-hit at the box office this year, becoming the top-grossing film at the domestic box office. One of the many reasons the film was such a success was its chart-topping soundtack, "Awesome Mix Vol. 1," which contained songs from the 1960s and 1970s like David Bowie’s “Moonage Daydream,” The Jackson 5’s “I Want You Back,” Marvin Gaye’s “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough,” and The Runaways’ “Cherry Bomb”. It has sold over a 100,000 copies and in August it hit No. 1 on the Billboard 200. With all that success, it should come as no surprise today that the soundtrack was nominated for a Grammy in the Best Compilation Soundtrack category. We'll have to watch the presentation on February 8, 2015 to find if they won. Straight from Star-Lord's ship, dancing baby Groot from "Guardians of the Galaxy" is set to groove his way into toy stores in time for Christmas this year.
Mashable reports that Marvel has officially licensed a replica of the crowd-pleasing little fella that charmed audiences this summer with his adorable dance moves set to the Jackson 5's "I Want You Back." The replica that will be sold in stores will feature an electronic version of that tune that will play from built-in speakers, and retail for around $14.99.
The toy is almost as cute as his on-screen counterpart (played in his original, life-size form by Vin Diesel), and while his superb flexibility is somewhat lost in translation -- this version is a little herky-jerky with his hip swivels -- it's still fun to watch him wiggle. Check out a clip of the little guy in action below, and just try not to dance along.
