Spoiler Alert! This story contains details from the series finale of Bob ❤️ Abishola on CBS.
The multi-camera comedy about an American businessman who falls in love with a Nigerian nurse wrapped May 6 in much the same way it kicked off in 2019 — with lots of charm and affection served up by its affable stars Billy Gardell and Folake Olowofoyeku.
Here, co-creator/EP/co-star Gina Yashere and EP Matt Ross talk about what went into crafting their sentimental Bob ❤️ Abishola finale, the show’s legacy and whether they regret using a heart emoji in the title.
Deadline: Talk about the decision to employ a time jump in the finale. Why did you do it?
Gina Yashere: There were certain stories that we started in previous seasons, like in Season 4 we’d ended on a cliffhanger. Is Abishola going to go to Johns Hopkins? And then throughout Season 4, we never really touched on the subject again.

CBS is ending three of its longest-running series next month, and the network has officially confirmed the series finale dates.
Bob Hearts Abishola is kicking things off with the series finale of the Billy Gardell comedy set for Monday, May 6, at 8:30/7:30c.
The series has been on the chopping block for some time.
Alarm bells sounded for fans last season when CBS confirmed that only Gardell and Folake Olowofoyeku would return as series regulars.
At that point, the fifth season wasn’t revealed to be the concluding chapter of the series, but the news followed months later.
The show has done an admirable job of trying to keep many of the ousted series regulars in play as guest stars and recurring players.

As previously reported, CBS announced that Bob Hearts Abishola will be coming to an end with its upcoming fifth season, set to premiere on Monday, February 12 at 8:30/7:30c. The Season 4 finale of Bob Hearts Abishola teased drastic changes to the show’s formula setting the stage for Abishola (Folake Olowofoyeku) and Bob (Billy Gardell) to head to Baltimore, leaving their friends (and much of the cast) back in Detroit. That came after Deadline reported that of the 13 main cast members, only Gardell and Olowofoyeku would remain series regulars for Season 5. In the final Season 4 episode, “Uncharted Waters of Mediocrity,” Abishola anxiously awaited her acceptance letter to the Baltimore medical school Johns Hopkins. Doubt set in as she spiraled into depression upon realizing she hadn’t received it. Meanwhile, Bob battled his subconscious, portrayed as his father, realizing he didn’t want to leave Detroit.
