One Fc
One Fc is now the most dominant Mma promotion in Asia, and has begun importing a number of western stars into its ranks, a move that puts pressure on the Ufc and its plan to move into Asian markets like China, Japan, and Singapore.
James McSweeny, Roger Huerta, and former Bellator welterweight champion Ben Askren now call the promotion home, and with Rich Franklin taking a job as One Fc’s Vice President, you can expect them to have additional sway with western fighters, as well as considerable influence on local talents in the region.
One Fc 19 was a big show for promotion, maybe its biggest to date. Airing on the Fight Network and other cable providers as well as online, the event, entitled “Reign of Champions,” saw three title bouts in addition to appearances by McSweeny and Huerta (who once graced the cover of Sports Illustrated). Rich Franklin is one of the biggest names in the world of Mixed Martial Arts. He fought Ken Shamrock on the The Ultimate Fighter – 1 finale, and was involved in numerous legendary battles against the likes of Chuck Liddell, Dan Henderson and Anderson Silva.
Recently, my colleague, Ratish Menon and I had the pleasure of talking to the former Ufc Middleweight champion of the world, and the current VP of One Fc. During the course of the interview, we asked Rich numerous questions regarding his personal life, his Mma career and his current status as a fighter.
Here’s an excerpt from the interview.
Ag: With your recent move to One Fc in a business capacity, would you be interested in doing the remaining fight on your Ufc contract?
Rich: When I signed with One Fc, Ufc told me that I didn’t have to retire from my fight contract,...

Nick Diaz has told ‘Ufc Tonight’ that he would like to comeback for a fight against Anderson Silva next year if the money is right.
With Anderson Silva’s return to the Ufc marching forward steadily, his leg healing up nicely and training intensifying, talk has shifted from if and when he will return (the current outlook is early 2015, though Dana White would no doubt love to have him as part of the Ufc’s annual year-end show) to who he will face upon his return.
Earlier this week, Silva’s long-time manager Ed Soares threw a couple of names into the hat while speaking with Ariel Helwani on the Mma hour: Cung Le, Michael Bisping, and Nick Diaz. Le and Bisping have a date booked, facing off against one another this August in China in what will be Le’s first fight in the octagon since his highlight-reel...

“If ignorant both of your enemy and yourself, you are certain to be in peril.” – Sun Tzu
He’s considered by every Mma outlet, website, and expert to be the greatest fighter of all time. The numbers are astounding: 33-6-0, 20 Knockouts, 6 Submissions, and 7 Decisions. He went unbeaten for seven years and in that time amassed 14 successful defenses of the Ufc Middleweight Title. His counter striking and anticipation is the best anyone has ever seen. His knockouts occur in the blink of an eye, his Jiu-Jitsu is like entering a tangled web, and his movement is like water. He’s considered the closest thing to Bruce Lee in competition. He’s a ghost, a ninja, and a soon-to-be legend of the Mma world.
He’s Anderson “The Spider” Silva and he was coming off the first Knockout loss of his career as he headed into Ufc 168.

This week's Season 8 premiere of "Supernatural" is a fantastic episode, with the potential to rejuvenate a series that many fans thought was wilting last season. A major factor in the strength of the episode is the introduction of Ty Olsson as Benny, a vampire who has been in Purgatory for half a century when he catches wind of Dean (Jensen Ackles) a human, being stuck there -- and finally sees a way out.
Benny hasn't walked the earth in 50 years, so it's understandable that he doesn't quite fit in on earth -- but what's more fascinating is how profoundly he understands Dean's struggle to adjust. The men have grown undeniably close during their time in Purgatory, and given Dean's general aversion to monsters, the show has a lot of explaining to do -- and we can't wait for the answers to play out on screen.

After the disaster that was Ufc 151, where the organisation had to cancel an entire card for the first time in its history, Ufc chairman Dana White will be hoping Ufc 152 delivers.
There has been much debate in the past few weeks over Jon Jones’ decision to turn down a fight with Chael Sonnen on 8 days’ notice, a decision which subsequently resulted in the collapse of Ufc 151. The Light Heavyweight champion has come under a lot of flak from fans and fellow fighters and will be looking to redeem himself in Ufc 152′s main event against the Brazilian Vitor Belfort.
Elsewhere on a stacked main card Featherweights Cub Swanson and Charles Oliviera square off as well as Light Heavyweights Matt Hamill and Roger Hollett. Michael Bisping will face Brian Stann with the winner likely to get a title shot at Anderson Silva and history will be made as the first ever...

The Ufc's Ultimate Fighter (Tuf) reality TV series returned to our screens last Friday night, but arrived with a twist -- as well as the fastest knockout in its history, at just eight seconds. While the show carried the same format and dangled the same prize at the end of it all, the action was, for the first time, live and pretty much uninterrupted and the season will, in time, be far more interactive than ever before, offering fight fans the opportunity to participate and dictate the fates of those inside the house.
A runaway success since its inception in 2005, this latest tweaking should ensure it remains as such, following the odd hit-and-miss season of late. With change comes a period for reflection, however, and now seems as good a time as any to remember and highlight some of the show's very best success stories, if only to provide inspiration...

The Los Angeles Film Festival has announced the world premiere of Richard Linklater's Bernie as the opening night film for the 2011 festival.
The film will kick off the festival on June 16 at Regal Cinemas Stadium 14 at L.A. Live. It is written by Skip Hollandsworth and director Linklater and stars Jack Black, Shirley MacLaine, and Matthew McConaughey.
The film follows a beloved mortician (Black) from a small Texas town, even winning over the town's richest, meanest widow (MacLaine). Even after Bernie commits a horrible crime, people still will not utter a bad word against him.
"We're thrilled to be opening the Festival with the world premiere of this delicious black comedy - a treat from one of the most original and exciting voices in independent film, Richard Linklater," said Festival director Rebecca Yeldham. Before it was released, Eminem's Recovery was touted as a great comeback vehicle after the so-so showing that was Relapse (which was supposed to be his other comeback vehicle). It appears as though everybody was right, as Recovery has been greeted by enthusiastic buyers (it has already sold over a million copies) and already has a chart-topping single ("Not Afraid"). In fact, it could be scoring its second #1 single very soon, as "Love the Way You Lie" — Slim Shady's collaboration with Rihanna — has rocketed up the Billboard Hot 100 and is looking to dislodge Katy Perry's "California Gurls" from its perch.
"Love the Way You Lie" is something of a departure for Eminem, as he doesn't typically follow the hip-hop trope of spitting some verses and then letting the female singer handle the hook in the chorus. But it's a brutally honest, heart-on-his-sleeve series of verses, and Rihanna's appearance...

For a fleeting moment it looked like Chuck Liddell had changed. He was in shape, finally. He had stopped drinking. His new girlfriend had him on the straight and narrow. In the Octagon, Chuck actually threw kicks for the first time in years, one of which broke Rich Franklin's left arm. Liddell was attacking with purpose. Then it all came undone as Franklin threw a short right hook that caught a lunging Liddell and knocked him out.
Chuck "The Iceman" Liddell was unconscious on the mat, again.
For whatever reason many are trying to put a positive spinon this: "Liddell went out like a champion" or "he went out the way he would've wanted to". Almost as if this was some Western; changing Custer's Massacre to Custer's Last Stand.
Sadly, Liddell was not riding off into the sunset even in ambiguity like the western Shane. You couldn't even compare...

All week Spike has been running promos for the latest episode of The Ultiamte Fighter hinting at the eventually demise of Tito Ortiz as coach on Tuf 11. Unfortunately it's not like this is news to Mma fans as the Ufc already spoiled the season before the third episode.
With the foreshadowing of "Tito issues" being the main marketing push, the episode immediately begins with the coach of Team Punishment telling his team that he may need surgery on his neck. Ortiz says that his there is a bulging disc in his neck between his C6 and C7 vertebrae (right at the base of your neck), which is pinching the nerve causing head aches, dizziness and pain through his legs. If Ortiz's symptoms are accurate no commission worth its salt would sign off on him fighting (No wonder the city of Vancouver had all those issues regarding insurance). Before we get...

The relationship between former Ufc light heavyweight champion, Tito Ortiz, and adult actress Jenna Jameson had a warm, gooey, paparazzi explosion all over TMZ earlier this week.
I know what you're thinking, that married--pardon, "spousal" life between a cage fighter and a porn starlet is destined for failure (if there was a market to bet on celebrity relationships falling apart then I am sure Goldman Sachs had placed a bet--pardon, a derivative hedge investment thingy on this one going nuclear) but Tito and Jenna appeared to be making this new age former porn star, beatable fighter relationship work. The couple even had twins together and, in even a greater expression of love, Tito bought Jenna an iPad.
So, what went wrong between the "Huntington Beach Bad Boy" and the "Pop Shot Queen" (that last one is a real nickname, right?).
As of this moment here is what we know: Tito Ortiz...

Normal 0 false false false MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 The third episode of The Ultimate Fighter season eleven aired last but the show has already been spoiled! Rival coaches Chuck Liddell and Tito Ortiz are not fighting at Ufc 115. Instead, Liddell will fight Rich Franklin.

This weekend, the Ultimate Fighting Championship will make its way to Dallas for a show headlined by a catchweight match between Rich Franklin and Vitor Belfort. Watching Ufc remains a favorite pastime in the Newsroom (as well as at Hayley Williams' house), and this weekend's card looks like it'll be a satisfying sleeper. Franklin and Belfort are both former champions trying to re-establish themselves as contenders in a crowded field. But no matter what the tale of the tape says, everybody knows the difference between sweet victory and crushing defeat comes down to a single criterion: Who has the better entrance music?
It's worked well for a number of fighters. Brock Lesnar used Mötley Crüe's "Shout at the Devil" as his music in his first fight (which he lost in 90 seconds), switched to Metallica's "Enter Sandman" and hasn't lost since, becoming the heavyweight champion in the process.

Image copyright 2008 S. Granitz/WireImage.com I just got off the horn with one of my favorite character actors Bruce Greenwood. If you don’t know his name, you know his face. Dude’s been in everything. And he’s usually playing the President or the head of the CIA or something. (Unless it is an Atom Egoyan film, in which case he plays a pedophile.) We’re most excited, though, as he recently wrapped production on a little picture called Star Trek where he plays the pre-Kirk captain of the Enterprise, Christopher Pike. If you are only a middling Trekkie, that’s the dude with the burned-off face. In our interview Greenwood talks about the hilarious security measures taken on Trek, about his new DVD Cyborg Soldier with Ufc champ Rich Franklin and about being a classic entertainment “That Guy.” Trekkie’s note: Greenwood does confirm a possible break...

Not to long ago, Ugo premiered the trailer for Ufc champ Rich Franklin’s acting debut Cyborg Soldier. Well, for those of you who saw that trailer and thought, “man, this is going to be great!” I have some bad news for you: A. you should consult with your local psychiatrist and B. the movie makes The Marine look like Kenneth Branagh’s Hamlet (Now that I think of it, wouldn’t you love to see John Cena in that role? Hmm…) Cyborg Soldier takes the oh-so-original concept of a half-man/half-human killing machine codenamed: I.S.A.A.C. (that stands for something that makes the name Isaac work, whatever) as he escapes from the laboratory, killing every puny scientist in his way. In 1989 there was a film called Cyborg (JCVD in the Maison!!!). In 1998 the great Paul W. S. Anderson made a film called Soldier. And now, following this once-a-decade tradition, comes the film Cyborg Soldier. It was all leading to THIS. Cyborg Soldier, directed by celebrated stunt coordinator John Stead and co-written by John Flock, the genius behind the Fortress franchise, is a movie about...I dunno.....a soldier programmed to kill who goes in too deep or something. It’ll be out on DVD on October 7. It stars UFC champ Rich Franklin and Bruce Greenwood who plays Sarek in the upcoming Star Trek film, so that’s enough of a selling point for me. Enjoy the world premiere of the trailer!
