Legendary filmmaker David Cronenberg's Crimes of the Future released in 2022, eight years after Maps to The Stars. Thankfully, we're not going to have to wait nearly as long for the body horror maestro's next film, which is set to premiere during this year's Cannes Film Festival next week.
Titled The Shrouds, the movie stars Vincent Cassel, Diane Kruger (Inglourious Basterds), Guy Pearce (Memento) and Sandrine Holt (Fear the Walking Dead).
The first teaser trailer is now online.
The footage doesn't give us very much to go on, basically just serving as an introduction to Vincent Cassel's Karsh, "an innovative businessman and grieving widower, builds a novel device to connect with the dead inside a burial shroud. This burial tool installed at his own state-of-the-art – though controversial cemetery allows him and his clients to watch their specific departed loved one decompose in real time."

Léa Seydoux addressed France’s growing #MeToo movement at the Cannes Film Festival press conference for Quentin Dupieux’s comedy “The Second Act,” which opened the fest on Tuesday night.
“It’s a wonderful thing that women are now speaking out. Things are clearly changing and it was high time it did,” she said. “I have the impression that this change has indeed taken place. The film also plays with this idea, it also talks about very current events and this movement, where women are now speaking out, and that was of fundamental importance for this change to take place.”
Seydoux continued, “#MeToo is very important. It’s a very serious issue. However, I think it is also necessary to be able to talk about it with humor. In the film, this is highlighted in a very funny way.”

The acting legend, honored with an Honorary Palme d’Or at an emotional presentation Tuesday night during the Cannes Film Festival’s opening ceremony the Grand Théâtre Lumière, confirmed that “of course, I want to do it,” but first she wants to hear how producer Judy Craymer has resolved the issue of how Streep’s character Donna Sheridan can return for MM3 when it was revealed during the during the 2018 sequel Mamma Mia! The Cannes Film Festival is many things: A prestigious platform for the best of world cinema, a massive industry event where film acquisitions get made, a testament to the French film industry’s classism and rampant sexual abuse. But more than anything, it’s one of the world’s greatest photo opps.
Sure, sure, everyone wants the Palme D’or. But even more people would kill to get seen on the iconic Cannes red carpet, and get your picture snapped by the hordes of press that camp on the Croisette. Some of the world’s most glamorous and beautiful celebrities can be seen on the steps outside the Palais des Festivals et des Congrès every year posing for the cameras, and while it’s not quite the fashion moment that the Met Gala is, it still offers a great opportunity for us pleebs to gawk at some particularly shiny stars in all of their finery.

The stormy clouds outside the Palais might have dampened some spirits as the credits rolled on the opening night film of the 77th Cannes Film Festival. Or maybe it was the movie itself.
“The Second Act,” Quentin Dupieux’s talky French comedy about the making of the first movie directed by AI, mustered a lukewarm 3.5-minute standing ovation on Tuesday night in Cannes.
Dupieux attedned the premiere along with his French cast of Léa Seydoux, Louis Garrel, Vincent Lindon and Raphaël Quenard. The four actors all politely stood as a camera quickly passed by through the tepid applause.
In the meta film, these French stars play actors making a romantic comedy they know is pointless, as it’s the first movie written and directed by AI. In the opening scenes, we learn that Florence (Seydoux) wants to take things to the next level with David (Garrel), but he is no...

Updated with ovation for The Second Act: The Cannes Film Festival opened Tuesday evening with a joyously female vibe as Meryl Streep received the Honorary Palme d’Or from an emotional Juliette Binoche and Greta Gerwig became the first female U.S. director to serve as jury president across its 77 editions.
The ceremony at the Palais led into the festival’s opening-night film The Second Act from Quentin Dupieux. The French pic, starring Léa Seydoux and Louis Garrel, received a lukewarm 3-minute, 46-second standing ovation from the audience.
Earlier, resplendent in a long sequin gown, Gerwig said she was still coming to terms with the fact that she was presiding over the Cannes jury.
“I hardly know what to say… This is holy to me; art is sacred, film is sacred… I cannot believe that I’m getting the chance to spend 10 days in this house of worship.”

Cannes Film Festival kicked off its 77th edition with opening night film The Second Act, an apt title for the French event that kicked off with clear skies and a festive mood after days of looming strikes, #MeToo rumours and a high tension geopolitical landscape.
General delegate Thierry Fremaux set the tone for the evening by walking casually to the Lumiere theatre with microphone in hand with a simple “good evening everyone - Quentin Dupieux” as the director and his starry cast including Lea Seydoux and Louis Garrel took their seats.

The Cannes Film Festival red carpet is notoriously strict about its black-tie dress code (one man in a blue tuxedo who committed the fashion travesty of wearing white socks was almost turned away). But on Tuesday night, France welcomed a national hero to the opening night of the 77th edition — Messi, the four-legged scene-stealer from last year’s Palme d’Or winner “Anatomy of a Fall.”
The canine phenom helped brighten things up even as dark clouds gathered over the Palais des Festivals, site of Cannes’ biggest premieres. Despite the foreboding weather and light drizzle, Lily Gladstone, Greta Gerwig, Omar Sy, Jane Fonda, Juliette Binoche and other stars added some glamour and sparkle to the evening.

The 77th edition of the Cannes Film Festival is officially underway in the South of France as A-listers, auteurs and America’s most revered actress, Meryl Streep, converged at the Palais’ Grand Theatre Lumiere on Tuesday for a typically glamorous opening ceremony.
The anticipation was as thick as the clouds in the sky on Tuesday as rain was not the only threat hanging over the start of this year’s festival. From a possible strike and a fresh #MeToo discussion in France to the ongoing conflict in Gaza, festival officials have faced many questions in the days and hours leading up to Tuesday night. During his annual kick-off press conference, festival boss Thierry Fremaux sidestepped looming issues and tried to center the main attraction and the core mission of delivering world-class cinema. “We are trying to have a festival without these polemics,” he said, encouraging people (particularly the press) to...

Meryl Streep, the most celebrated screen actress of her time, added another prize to her collection — one of the few that she hadn’t received already — when she was presented with an honorary Palme d’Or during the opening ceremony of the 77th Cannes Film Festival on Tuesday night.
Upon being called to the stage and handed the gold-plated emblem of the city of Cannes by French actress Juliette Binoche, the 74-year-old received a thunderous 2.5-minute standing ovation from the more than 2,000 guests who packed the Grand Lumiere Theatre. Among them was Greta Gerwig, Streep’s Little Women director and this year’s Cannes jury president, who wiped away tears as Streep basked in the applause.
“You changed the way we look at women,” said Binoche, choking up with emotion as Streep comforted her.

Before Meryl Streep could accept her honorary Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival on Tuesday night, she was greeted by a thunderous two-minute standing ovation. The 74-year-old Oscar winner was so overcome with emotion that she first pretended to walk off the stage, but eventually began to dance to the applause.
French star Juliette Binoche, herself emotional, presented the award to Streep, saying: “When I see you on the screen, I don’t see you … Where does it come from? Were you born like this? I don’t know, but there’s a believer in you; a believer that allows me to believe.”
Binoche called Streep “an international treasure” as she listed off many of Streep’s most beloved roles, from “Sophie’s Choice” to “Julie and Julia.” Binoche later added, “You changed the way we look at cinema.”

Oh, Canada debuting this week on the Croisette is high time to see lesser-seen Schrader on the Criterion Channel, who’ll debut an 11-title series including the likes of Touch, The Canyons, and Patty Hearst, while Old Boyfriends (written with his brother Leonard) and his own “Adventures in Moviegoing” are also programmed. Five films by Jean Grémillon, a rather underappreciated figure of French cinema, will be showing
Series-wise, there’s an appreciation of the synth soundtrack stretching all the way back to 1956’s Forbidden Planet while, naturally, finding its glut of titles in the ’70s and ’80s––Argento and Carpenter, obviously, but also Tarkovsky and Peter Weir. I Am Cuba, Girlfight, The Royal Tenenbaums, and Dazed and Confused are June’s Criterion Editions.

While this year’s Cannes film festival jury president declared her role ‘a dream come true’, storms over sexual abuse and workers’ rights are expected
The reviews were gushing on the first day of the 77th Cannes film festival, as Barbie director Greta Gerwig took up her duties as this year’s jury president. Festival bosses variously hailed the American film-maker as a “cultural phenomenon”, a “heroine for modern times” and a woman who embodies “the future of cinema”. The fanfare was such that it almost drowned out the discord as the world’s premier movie showcase opened against a backdrop of threatened labour disputes and a rumoured report of alleged sexual abuse within the industry.

The Cannes Film Festival opened Tuesday with expectations that the big theme of this 77th edition will be #MeToo, even if rumors of an imminent bombshell exposé involving 10 prominent cinema figures were quashed overnight.
France’s #MeToo wave, sparked by actress and filmmaker Judith Godrèche’s decision to speak up about sexual abuse she says she suffered as a teenager and her subsequent campaign to end what she calls a culture of silence in the French film world, will be omnipresent.
Godrèche’s actions have encouraged thousands of sexual abuse victims across all walks of life to speak up about their experiences.
The actress and filmmaker will be in Cannes for the world premiere on Wednesday evening of her resulting short film Moi Aussi, gathering 1,000 people who got in touch with her via social media channels to tell their stories.

The 2024 Cannes Film Festival competition jury, led by president Greta Gerwig, met the international press Tuesday — and it didn’t take long before the assembled stars were urged to address the various fraught political issues swirling around this year’s edition of the world’s most glamorous film fest.
On the eve of the 77th festival, Cannes artistic director Thierry Frémaux had set the tone by attempting to distance the event from hot-button topics, saying at his own press conference on Monday, “We are trying to have a festival without these polemics. In Cannes, the politics should be on the screen.”
The French festival head, who has served in his role since 2001, noted how coverage of Cannes has changed over his tenure, as the international media’s interest has shifted from the films on exhibition to an expectation that the festival be responsive to surrounding social issues. In Cannes, the politics should be on the screen.”
The French festival head, who has served in his role since 2001, noted how coverage of Cannes has changed over his tenure, as the international media’s interest has shifted from the films on exhibition to an expectation that the festival be responsive to surrounding social issues. That was certainly the case Tuesday,...

Jury duty began Tuesday, May 14 for this year’s Cannes Film Festival competition panelists, led by president Greta Gerwig, the billion-dollar filmmaker behind “Barbie.”
Omar Sy, Eva Green, Lily Gladstone, Pierfrancesco Favino, Hirokazu Kore-eda, J.A. Bayona, Nadine Labaki, and Ebru Ceylan, along with Gerwig, convened at the Palais des Festivals for the annual opening day press conference. Tonight’s festival launches with the world premiere of Quentin Dupieux’s “The Second Act.” The jury will discuss, debate, and deliberate on films including Paul Schrader’s “Oh, Canada,” Francis Ford Coppola’s “Megalopolis,” Andrea Arnold’s “Bird,” Yorgos Lanthimos’ “Kinds of Kindness,” and more.
But the 77th edition of the global leading film festival is on edge right now as Cannes stares down two major scandals plaguing the Croisette and the French film industry at large. There’s a looming potential strike from a labor collective calling itself Sous les écrans la dèch,...

With rumors of a bombshell #MeToo report about the French cinema industry knocking on the door of the Cannes Film Festival, this year’s jury president Greta Gerwig on Tuesday acknowledged the wave that’s out there in a way that festival boss Thierry Frémaux didn’t want to address at his press conference the day before.
“I think people in the community of movies telling their stories and changing things for the better is only good,” said the Barbie filmmaker at a press conference introducing the jury just hours before the festival’s opening night begins. “I’ve seen substantial changes in the American film community; I think it’s important to expand the conversation.”
“It’s only moving things in the correct direction, keeping those lines of communication open,” said Gerwig about a press member’s query as to whether the current #MeToo climate is France is impacting the festival.

Greta Gerwig addressed the growing #MeToo movement in France at the jury press conference on opening day of this year’s Cannes Film Festival.
“I think people in the community of movies telling us stories and trying to change things for the better is only good,” Gerwig said when asked how she felt about #MeToo-related rumors swirling ahead of the festival. “I have seen substantive change in the American film community, and I think it’s important that we continue to expand that conversation. So I think it’s only moving everything in the correct direction to keep those lines of communication open.”
Gerwig is serving as the president of this year’s competition jury, which will be awarding the prestigious Palme d’Or at the end of the 11-day festival that kicks off on Tuesday night. The jury is comprised of Spanish filmmaker J. A. Bayona, Turkish actress and screenwriter Ebru Ceylan,...

Despite the glass-ceiling-smashing success of Greta Gerwig’s Barbie, gender parity in the global film sector remains a distant goal. Re-Framing the Picture, a recent study from an international and multidisciplinary research team looking at the German, British and Canadian film industries, projects that, at the current rate of progress, true 50-50 equality in key creative positions won’t be reached until 2041 in Germany, 2085 in the U.K., and 2215 (!) in Canada. It’s not an optimistic forecast for the producers, managers, film executives and talents picked by THR as the most influential women in international cinema, but they continue to find new models to produce, finance and distribute movies that amplify diverse voices. More than ever, it’s their efforts that are required if the promise of a more representative and inclusive film industry is ever to be realized.

Florence Pugh and director Ari Aster’s Midsommar is probably one of the most beautifully haunting pieces of cinema that has ever been released. From the slow and methodical approach to horror through beauty to the anti-climatic ending, Midsommar truly followed in the footsteps of its forefather Hereditary.

Crisis management team reported to be in place as Meryl Streep heads roster of female stars and directors collecting accolades
For good and bad reasons, on and off the red carpet, the spotlight is trained on women in the run-up to the Cannes film festival this week. As the cream of female film talent, including Hollywood’s Meryl Streep and Britain’s Andrea Arnold, prepare to receive significant career awards, a dark cloud is threatening. It is expected that new allegations of the abuse of women in the European entertainment industry will be made public, which may overshadow the sparkle of a feminist Croisette.
Streep’s screen achievements will be celebrated with an honorary Palme d’Or at the opening ceremony, while a day later Arnold, the acclaimed British film director, will receive the prestigious Carosse d’Or from the French director’s guild. And on Sunday another influential British...

The Doctor Who press juggernaut materialized in New York last week, bringing with it leading stars Ncuti Gatwa and Millie Gibson. The iconic, long-running BBC science-fiction show about a time-and-space traveling alien debuts its latest season on streamer Disney+ on Friday.
Gatwa, who grew up in Scotland after leaving Rwanda as a child, is already known for playing Eric Effiong in Sex Education (Netflix) and as one of the many Kens in Greta Gerwig’s Barbie (2023). Lesser known internationally is Gibson, who turns 20 in June. In the U.K., the actor made a name for herself in the television soap opera, Coronation Street (which is even longer-running than Doctor Who).
The Hollywood Reporter caught up with the pair to discuss the opening two episodes of their first season (which release at 7 p.m. on the streamer). There’s no spoilers below, but do come back Saturday for the second part of this interview,...

Legendary The Fly and Dead Ringers director David Cronenberg's Crimes of the Future released in 2022, eight years after his previous film, Maps to the Stars. Thankfully, we're not going to have to wait quite as long for the body horror maestro's next project.
Titled The Shrouds, the movie stars Vincent Cassel, Diane Kruger (Inglourious Basterds), Guy Pearce (Memento) and Sandrine Holt (Fear the Walking Dead), and is set for its world premiere later this month at the Cannes Film Festival.
Plot details had been pretty vague up until now, but the following synopsis gives us a much better idea of what to expect.
"Karsh, an innovative businessman and grieving widower, builds a novel device to connect with the dead inside a burial shroud. This burial tool installed at his own state-of-the-art – though controversial cemetery allows him and his clients to watch their specific departed loved one decompose in real time.

Rocket Science and CAA Media Finance are launching foreign sales out of Cannes for the John Lee Hancock directed Monsanto starring Glen Powell, Anthony Mackie and Oscar winner Laura Dern.
Monsanto tells the true story of young, untried attorney Brent Wisner (Powell) who takes on a seemingly insurmountable case against the giant U.S. chemical company Monsanto on behalf of Dewayne “Lee” Johnson (Mackie) who used Monsanto’s best-known product Roundup, a wildly financially successful weed and grass pesticide killer, as part of his job as a high school groundskeeper. During the trial, Dr Melinda Rogers (Dern), the chief toxicologist of the Monsanto Company, testifies with certainty that Roundup is safe.
Pic’s screenplay was developed in association with Karl Spoerri’s Zurich Avenue and penned by Michael Wisner, Alexandra Duparc, Ned Benson and Hancock. Producers are Moritz Borman, Eric Kopeloff, Philip Schulz-Deyle and Jon Levin alongside HyperObject Industries’ Adam McKay and Kevin Messick.

The Box Office last year was a phenomenal event. Led by Margot Robbie’s Barbie and Christopher Nolan’s nuclear bomb thriller with Marvel witnessing its first-ever bomb, many miracles and misses made it an eventful year. While there were several incredible movies and features, it was ultimately the Barbemheimer that won the hearts of many.
2023’s Most Profitable Movies
Finishing first at the worldwide box office with $1.4 billion, Barbie won hearts even though the runner-up Oppenheimer bagged the most awards. Yet, when it came to the most profitable movie of last year, Chris Pratt’s animated flick, The Super Mario Bros Movie, left all movies behind.

The Matchbox line of tiny toy cars is to become a big feature film, and Extraction director Sam Hargrave has landed the plum job of making it.
We learned all the way back in 2022 that Mattel was looking to get a film project underway that would feature its long-running line of Matchbox toy cars. As part of the press release, it was trumpeted that ‘one Matchbox car is sold every second’ meaning that the brand possesses that all important ‘pre-awareness’ that is seen as crucial by the folks that give these types of films the thumbs-up.
Then 2022 happened and that other film based on a Mattel toy did rather well. You may have read a thing or two about the success of Greta Gerwig’s Barbie, but in the wake of that film’s huge success, Mattel announced that it had a number of projects on the horizon that would...

2023 was the year Barbie took over cinemas, but few would have predicted that she would take over music as well. Barbie: The Album featured several hit songs, including Dua Lipa’s “Dance the Night.” Lipa revealed how that song came together. She also explained how “Dance the Night” encapsulates her personal philosophy.
Dua Lipa co-wrote ‘Dance the Night’ from ‘Barbie’ with major musicians
“Dance the Night” was written by Lipa and regular co-writer Caroline Ailin as well as Andrew Wyatt (Lady Gaga’s “Shallow”) and Mark Ronson of “Uptown Funk!” fame. Not many may have expected this, but now it’s all official. Ryan Gosling’s brand new action comedy The Fall Guy has dethroned Zendaya’s heavily marketed sports drama Challengers with the former grossing almost $28 million in the domestic box office and $64 million worldwide during the opening weekend.
David Leitch’s homage to his first ever work as a stunt man was initially quite a questionable competitor, but now the movie’s incredibly good performance in theaters proves that we were wrong all along.
Starring Barbie’s Ryan Gosling and Oppenheimer’s Emily Blunt, The Fall Guy follows Colt Seavers whose entire career is jeopardized after an accident which forces him to leave his job and girlfriend Jody, a camerawoman then.
Some time later Colt suddenly finds himself on the set of his ex-girlfriend's directorial debut that may now be totally ruined after the leading actor vanished for no reason.

Mattel's next "big" movie may have found its director, as Deadline reports today that Sam Hargrave has closed a deal with Skydance and Mattel Films to helm the toy company's upcoming film "Matchbox." Hargrave is best known as the director of the Netflix film "Extraction" and its sequel; Netflix has said the first film in the franchise is one of the most-watched original movies it's ever released.
Mattel, the company that brought fans a billion-dollar "Barbie" movie, is clearly looking for another huge hit, and based on his track record at Netflix, Hargrave is able to get audiences seated. The first "Extraction" film dropped in 2020, starred Chris Hemsworth, and was reportedly watched by 99 million households during its first month on the streamer. While Netflix's data and viewership measurements are notoriously opaque, that's still a hell of a number, and it's one that could translate to success when it comes to "Matchbox.

Lord of the Rings has shaped many a child’s life almost a century apart. Be it J. R. R. Tolkien’s literary series in the 1930s or Peter Jackson’s trilogies in the 2000s, the franchise has brought the world of epic high fantasy tales involving Elves, hobbits, kings, and wizards just a little bit closer to our fingertips.

Greta Gerwig is shifting from Barbie’s life in plastic to Chronicles of Narnia’s cozy folk tales, and we’re here for it. While the upcoming remake that will be released on Netflix hasn’t had its production started yet, there’s not so much to say about how exactly the proclaimed director will highlight C.S. Lewis's famous fantasy story.
Given how accurately Gerwig grasps a totally different view angle for the already well-known narrative, we may get to see something unexpectedly new in the reboot that wasn’t featured the same way in the 2005 grand franchise. Despite all that, there’s one big mistake that the Disney’s movie adaptations had — and though nobody really noticed it, Greta Gerwig definitely should.

Barbie dolls have had a shockingly huge impact on pop music. Perhaps the most famous example is Dua Lipa‘s “Dance the Night” from the soundtrack of Greta Gerwig’s Barbie. Lipa explained what she was trying to accomplish with the song and how she felt making it.
Dua Lipa’s ‘Dance the Night’ is 1 of many songs inspired by Barbie
For a piece of plastic, Barbie is surprisingly musically influential. She inspired Aqua’s classic bubblegum hit “Barbie Girl” and its various derivatives. In addition, Nicki Minaj calls her fans “Barbies” and repeatedly references the doll in her songs and music videos. Avant-garde director Todd Haynes directed Superstar: The Karen Carpenter Story, a film with no actors other than stop-motion animated Barbie dolls.
Perhaps the doll’s greatest musical moment was Barbie: The Album. The album served as the soundtrack for Gerwig’s Barbie and featured contributions from Minaj,...

The first Monday in May has arrived, which means it’s Met Gala time.
For its 2024 edition, the annual fundraiser benefiting the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute was hosted by Zendaya, Jennifer Lopez, Bad Bunny, Chris Hemsworth, and Anna Wintour with the theme of “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion” (the title of the Institute’s latest exhibition), and a dress code of “The Garden of Time,” a reference to the 1962 J.G. Ballard short story of the same name.
Accordingly all the stars arrived in New York City donning the finest horticulture-inspired couture, with natural designs and floral garnishes abound. Below, you the outfits worn by Lana Del Rey, Dua Lipa, Rosalía, Ariana Grande, Charli Xcx, FKA twigs, Jennie of Blackpink, Stray Kids, Lil Nas X, Tyla, plus Zendaya, Sydney Sweeney, Ayo Edebiri, Lily Gladstone, and Uma Thurman.
Notably, 2024 marks the most expensive year in history for the already-uber-ritzy Gala,...

Deadline’s Most Valuable Blockbuster tournament is back. While studios during Covid wildly embraced the theatrical day-and-date model when cinemas were closed, they soon realized there’s nothing more profitable than a theatrical release and the downstreams that come with it. If anything, theatrical is the advertisement for a movie’s longevity in subsequent home entertainment windows. Entering the conversation in 2023 were the streamers, such as Apple, who have also realized the necessity of theatrical to eventize their movies. The financial data pulled together here for Deadline’s Most Valuable Blockbuster Tournament is culled by seasoned and trusted sources.

In October 2018 while sharing beers in a frigid Milwaukee bar with his soon-to-be leading man Ryland Tews, director, visual effects artist and editor of “Hundreds of Beavers” Mike Cheslik conceived the film based on three simple elements: his After Effects skills, familiarity with snow and Tews’ uncanny ability to fall over.
“We knew that the image of a guy in a mascot costume falling down was fundamentally funny,” Cheslik explains. “And if that is in every shot, even if our gags aren’t working well, we have the fundamental comedy of mascot animal. Is that right, Ryland?”
“Absolutely,” Tews says in response. “We just wanted to make a movie that looked like nothing else.”

This would begin the five-and-a-half-year journey to the theatrical release of one of 2024’s most successful indie films. Entirely self-distributed, “Hundreds of Beavers” has...

If there’s one thing the French love more than rich desserts, it’s going on strike. A labor action is brewing on the Riviera this week, and it just so happens to be during the most high-profile event of the season: the 77th annual Cannes Film Festival.
The Festival workers—the fine folks that ensure no one dares bring une petite bouteille d’eau into the Palais de Festivals, a building that seems immune to air conditioning—are mounting a strike action, as per a report in Deadline.
The Collectif des précaires des festivals de cinéma, which includes those connected to the principal Cannes slate as well as sidebars like Director’s Fortnight, are demanding higher pay due to “arduous overtime hours” and for employment benefits following the short-term gig. “Due to unique regulations, many workers at French film festivals are excluded from the unemployment benefit. Instead, they are...

Dua Lipa knows how to bring the party. And apparently it runs in the genes. While making her “Saturday Night Live” hosting debut last night, the award-winning pop star acknowledged how she’d made her television debut in the same building eight years ago and gave a special shoutout to her parents — who were in the audience cheering her on — telling a story about an unlikely run-in she had with her folks one night.
“As you can see,” she said, “they’re kind of cool. They love to party. One night, I was out with my friends and we ended up at the club at three o’clock in the morning and who do I bump into but my parents. Which is embarrassing, cause the last thing you want to see when you’re super high and drunk-off-your-ass is your daughter.”
The punchline got a huge laugh, particularly from her parents up in the balcony.
