- There was another pitcher named Chris Carpenter that pitched in the majors in 2011. He is in the Chicago Cubs organization and his middle name is also John.
- Signed a two-year extension with the Cardinals after the 2011 Season.
- Was out of action for most of 2012. He had surgery to correct a recurring nerve issue in his throwing shoulder.
- Had a recurrence of the problems that kept him out of action for most of 2012, he will more than likely miss all of the 2013 Season and his career could very well be over.
