Exclusive: Greenwich Entertainment announced today the acquisition of North American distribution rights to Katie Burrell’s feature debut Weak Layers.
The film is directed and co-written by Burrell (who also stars), and Andrew Ladd, also stars Chelsea Conwright and Jadyn Wong. Weak Layers will arrive in theaters in top 50 markets and in select mountain towns on January 5, and on VOD on February 6, 2024.
The three women star as evicted roommates who enter a ski-movie contest to resolve their living situation. Set in Lake Tahoe, these three passionate and lovably rowdy local women go on a quest to win a world-famous 72-hour short ski film competition. A progressive throwback to the cult classics, the film dissects modern, male-driven ski culture while championing the tight-knit local communities found in ski towns throughout the world.
“I love anything that upends a trope and this movie is full of the kind of teasing satire that satisfies the rebel in me.

Great American Family CEO Bill Abbott is speaking out about Candace Cameron Bure's controversial "traditional marriage" comments.
In a new interview with Variety, Abbott revealed that he doesn't think the Full House alum is a spokesperson for the network.
"We're proud to have her here, and she works so well with the team alongside me, and we have a really talented and dedicated team that's committed to high-quality faith and family content," Abbott said.
"In terms of her personal views, it's like the disclaimer you see at the end of a movie or a series that says, 'The views reflected here are not necessarily those of the company.'"
"Candace has such a high profile that when she speaks, she'll speak on a lot of topics, and she has a wonderful podcast that is fantastic," he added.
"But when she speaks on that, she's not speaking on behalf of Great American Media.

The head of Great American Family is (very lightly) pushing back on Candace Cameron Bure’s incendiary position regarding LGBTQ+ inclusivity at the network.
To quickly recap: Last year, the Full House vet — who in April 2022 jumped from Hallmark Channel to Great American Family, becoming the latter’s Chief Content Officer — caused a firestorm when she told the Wall Street Journal that G.A.F. “will keep traditional marriage at the core” of its movies.

Jodie Sweetin is not happy about where her latest made-for-tv movie will be airing.
Sweetin is coming forward after news emerged that her film, “Craft Me a Romance”, was picked up by Great American Family (Gaf).
The recently rebranded network (formerly known as Great American Country) was launched by ex-Hallmark Channel head Bill Abbott, after he was forced to step down as CEO of Crown Media Family Networks (Hallmark’s parent company) after backlash bowing to pressure from anti-gay groups by pulling a commercial that featured a same-sex couple.
Since launching as Gaf in 2021, the network has managed to snag numerous Hallmark Channel actors to star in the channel’s Hallmark-style movies, including Sweetin’s fellow “Full House” alum Candace Cameron Bure, who signed an exclusive deal with Gaf.

Candace Cameron Bure, known for her role as D.J. Tanner on Full House, spoke out about cancel culture after her comments on “traditional marriages” stir a major backlash.
Last year, Bure took the position of chief creative officer for the Great American Family cable channel, where she will produce her own titles under the “Candace Cameron Bure Presents” banner, leaving the Hallmark Channel where she had previously worked.
Bure said in a Wall Street Journal interview, these movies will focus on keeping “traditional marriage at the core” and promoting “faith programming and good family entertainment.”
This take on Christmas movies goes against the slowly-growing diversity of Hallmark’s newest movies.
Last year, Hallmark produced its first same-sex couple Christmas movie and plans to continue doing so.
In response to Bure’s comment, several stars decided to leave the network, such as Neal Bledsoe.

Candace Cameron Bure is decrying “cancel culture” in the wake of the backlash against her following remarks she made about “traditional marriage” that many felt were homophobic and insulting.
In a recent interview with the “Unapologetic With Julia Jeffress Sadler” podcast, Bure shared, “Cancel culture is real, and it’s difficult, and it’s hard.”
Bure went on to argue that Christians face persecution for their faith in different countries across the world, and how there’s been a “cushion” in North America against the kind of persecution seen in other nations.

“Mean Girls” alum Lacey Chabert is standing by the Hallmark Channel in the wake of Candace Cameron Bure’s exodus to rival network Great American Family. Bure ignited a firestorm on social media in November when she cited “the change in leadership” at Hallmark as the reason for her exit, adding that Hallmark is “a completely different network than when I started.” Hallmark has diversified its storytelling in recent years, while Bure said Great American Family “will keep traditional marriage at the core.”
“Any shift I’ve felt has been embracing our creative ideas,” Chabert said when asked about Bure’s comments about Hallmark changes. “And it’s my responsibility to the audience who continue to tune into my movies that I give the best I have to offer. That’s always my mission. I’ll never abandon what Hallmark means for me, which is that everything is centered around the heart.

The world of holiday programming continues to grow. While Hallmark Channel and Lifetime have seen major success with their “Countdown to Christmas” and “It’s a Wonderful Lifetime” slates, respectively, Great American Family joined the discussion in 2021.
In June 2021, the network, originally tilted Great American Country (Gac), was acquired by Gac Media, a group formed by former Hallmark CEO Bill Abbott and Hicks Equity Partners. In the fall of that year, the network was relaunched as Gac Family.
Under Gac Media, Great American Country changed to “Gac Family” and later to “Great American Family” — the title they have gone by since August 2022. The channel became similar in content to what Abbott had created at Hallmark, including original made-for-tv movies, holiday programming and big franchises. However, it also focuses more heavily on faith-driven programming.

For her first movie on the Great American Family channel, Danica McKellar is throwing it back to the golden days of drive-in movie theaters. In Christmas at the Drive-In, premiering Friday, November 25 at 8/7c, The Wonder Years alum plays Sadie Walker, a lawyer fighting to save her hometown’s last surviving drive-in. McKellar will also co-star in the film alongside fellow actor Neal Bledsoe, both of whom previously worked together in the Hallmark Channel original “The Winter Palace.” The script was written by Rick Garman, whose filmography is largely dominated by other holiday TV movies like “It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas,” or more recently, “A Christmas… Present.”
The premiere of “Christmas at the Drive-In” is part of the network’s Great American Christmas celebration, a holiday programming marathon that lasts from Oct. 21 to the end of 2022.

Candace Cameron Bure was the undisputed queen of Hallmark Channel’s slate of popular holiday fare, with more than 30 credits to her name. Who could forget her work as a high-strung doctor who moves to Alaska in “Christmas Under Wraps”? Ok, just because you haven’t heard of it, doesn’t mean it wasn’t a huge hit. The 2014 made-for-tv movie has the distinction of being the most watched Hallmark Christmas special ever, landing almost 6 million viewers on its debut airing. So, when Bure, 46, split with Hallmark to join rival upstart cable network Gac (now Great American Family) earlier this year, not even Santa himself could cheer up Hallmark.

"I wanted to see this guy try to make a movie." Gravitas has revealed an official trailer for an indie dark comedy titled Killer Whales, marking the feature directorial debut of filmmaker William Hamilton. This is riffing on the "true crime" craze right now, with too many true crime shows and series and films being released. Killer Whales is a mockumentary style film that follows a naive filmmaker who sets out to make the next true crime hit. Woefully underprepared and faced with a cast of kooky suspects, his plans unravel in spectacular fashion and threaten to throw him behind bars. All of this sounds so kooky and absurd. Killer Whales stars Anthony Carrigan, Neal Bledsoe, Greg Vrotsos, and A.B. Farrelly. This looks like both a cautionary tale about filmmaking and ego, as well as a satire about the true crime craze and how ridiculous it is. Not every death...

We're still promoting Hallmark's latest royal holiday movie, A Christmas Carousel.
Neal Bledsoe plays the royal in question, Prince Wittaker, who discovers there is a lot of love in the world when you get to look beyond the walls of Ancadia.
Of course, it doesn't hurt that Rachel Boston's Lila gets called to the royal republic to help restore the beloved Ancadian carousel.
It's funny that Neal is playing a stodgy Prince when we first meet him in the film because he is as far from that description as you can get.
Our interview started with Neal connecting with me by name, finding something to say about my hometown (Go Steelers!), and joking around about his new royal title.
After we joked about retaining access to the Prince costume for special occasions, such as enriching Christmas with the family, Neal jumped headfirst into A Carousel Christmas, inquiring about...

A Christmas Carousel is a new royal-themed holiday moving starring Rachel Boston.
Rachel took time out of her busy schedule to chat with us about the movie and her Christmas plans.
Known for her kindness, Rachel is warm and generous of her time, which is at a premium these days. We caught up with her just after she filmed a segment for Hallmark Channels Home & Family.
Rachel was part of a cooking segment, promoting Christmas with a dish featuring apple and fennel. Yum!
"Promoting Christmas right around Christmas has been remarkably exciting because you're already in the mood," Rachel said. Very often, filming for Christmas entertainment is done when the weather is anything but a chill in the air.
Not with A Christmas Carousel, though. "Actually this was the closest to Christmas I filmed so wearing the winter coats, it was actually winter," Rachel said. "It was really fun to be truly in the spirit.

Everyone’s family is crazy. Some may seem crazier than others, but that’s generally a byproduct of them being less self-conscious. The question we don’t ask ourselves — whether a part of the insanity or watching as an outsider — is why. Why does one member prove so gratingly obnoxious when you know he/she knows what others think? Why does another member retreat into his/her insular existence away from the sprawling chaos so that any opportunity to join the others feels like a chore? What has happened to drive this wedge that grows larger with each passing year of silence? The answer usually concerns blame. To be so close to someone when something bad happens to you both requires empathy and understanding. Guilt, however, often forces us to find fault instead.

The original Ironside lasted for eight seasons on NBC but the remake only lasted three episodes. The peacock network has cancelled the Blair Underwood drama, effective immediately. It's unclear what will become of the low-rated show's unaired episodes.
For the immediate future, NBC will fill the Wednesdays at 10pm timeslot with new editions of Dateline and then, holiday specials.
On January 8th, Chicago Pd will premiere. It's the previously mentioned spin-off of Chicago Fire which currently airs on Tuesdays at 10pm.

Remakes of old TV shows typically don't generate big ratings and get cancelled. Will NBC's Ironside be a different story or will it be dropped after one season like so many others. We'll have to watch the ratings and wait and see.

Based on the classic 1967 Raymond Burr series, this update, set in New York City, combines a straight procedural format with flashbacks to Ironside’s life before his debilitating injury. In the pilot, Ironside and his team investigate the...

You may know the name, but you don't know the man. At least not this time.
After his long run on "Perry Mason," Raymond Burr established another iconic television character as Robert Ironside, the San Francisco detective chief who conducted investigations from a wheelchair. The chair remains - but virtually everything else is different, including the character's attitude and the New York locale -- as Blair Underwood updates the role and the 1967-75 series when "Ironside" returns to NBC in a new version Wednesday, Oct. 2.
"I'm so excited about this," says former "L.A. Law" and "Dirty Sexy Money" co-star Underwood, also a producer of the new show, to Zap2it. "I get a chance to do the things I love doing ... colors and textures and tones, like the aggressive side that I've had chances to show onstage and in films but not necessarily on network television. It's nice to be...

Saying that NBC's Ironside is merely a remake of the popular series that starred Raymond Burr as a wheelchair-bound detective is selling the drama way short.
Part crime procedural, part character drama, the 21st century Ironside is anything but static - and this Detective Ironside is fighting demons, taking down bad guys and finding time for the ladies. Of course, it also helps that the character is played by Blair Underwood, who we've loved in dramas like La Law and The Event, along with comedies such as Sex and the City and The New Adventures of Old Christine. The series also stars Pablo Schreiber, Neal Bledsoe, Spencer Grammer, Kenneth Choi and Brent Sexton.
I sat down with Underwood recently to talk over the role and how his Broadway gig helped him land back on TV in this role.

Chicago – As the TV world was bombarded by new shows last week, I heard a number of complaints about the new dramas and comedies. “Hostages” was too cliched. “The Blacklist” wasn’t believable. “Shield” wasn’t fun enough. “Lucky 7” was, well, just awful. People, those shows will look even better if you happen to stumble upon “Ironside,” premiering tomorrow night on NBC.
It’s the most cliched, least believable, least fun, and just awful new drama of the year. It is aggressively bad. Avoid at all costs.
Television Rating: 1.0/5.0
It’s particularly tragic that “Ironside” fails so miserably because modern audiences probably won’t even realize that it’s a remake of the smash hit Raymond Burr series that ran from 1967-1975. They’ll just think it’s silly. And Blair Underwood, who has been excellent through his many years in TV, even recently on HBO’s “In Treatment” deserves better than the horrendous,...
