MidWest WeirdFest have announced its first programming wave for their third annual festival – a cinematic celebration of all things fantastic, frightening, offbeat, and just plain weird – which takes place March 8-10th 2019 at the Micon Downtown Cinema in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. Says festival founder and programming director Dean Bertram:
This year’s fest line-up is set to delight fans of cutting edge horror, sci-fi, underground, and documentary cinema. We’ve put together a heady and eclectic mix of speculative genre offerings, underground strangeness, and paranormal revelations: From a psychedelic Manson Family reimagining and a post-apocalyptic dance-off epic, through tales about a reanimated electrokinetic teenager, haunted stoners, and inept buddy superheroes, to a bonkers lake monster adventure and the most in-depth Bigfoot documentary ever produced. And that’s just from MidWest WeirdFest’s first programming wave of 2019!
Discounted festival passes are now on sale at www.midwestweirdfest.com. Individual tickets...

We've got a new nightmare to show you! Filmmaker Lonnie Martin is eager to share his short film Cougars, and believe us when we tell you it's totally worth a look. There's no Courteney Cox here; these Cougars are fierce!
The film was written and directed by Martin and stars Kendra North, Rebecca Hausman and Charlie Dreizen. The old school effects are totally charming, and the short throws a real curveball at the viewer as we get to the climax of the film. Job well done.
For more check out Cougars online .
Synopsis
Cougars tells the story of Sasha, a teenager at constant odds with the promiscuous ways of her mother, Bastet. When Sasha's young friend Stuart decides to walk her home from school, she becomes forced to confront the dark secret that makes her more like her mother than she'd care to admit.

Here at Dread Central we're fans of many things ... especially cougars. You can keep your gum-chewing nubile young lasses. We'll take the ladies with experience, thank you very much. Unless of course said ladies turn into snarling beasts looking to tear us to pieces.
Below you'll find a sneak peek at Lonnie Martin's (Women's Studies) latest short film Cougars details are sparse at the moment but we can pretty much guarantee that the clip speaks for itself, and by the way ... It's great to see some good old fashioned bladder work. It pleasantly reminds us of the glory days of The Howling.
Dig it!

So, what if, like, hot older women who like to score with younger dudes (you know - cougars) actually turned into - like - cougars?
Ningen Manga is the production company that brought us Women's Studies, the horrific exploration of feminist extremism and female identity. Now Lonnie Martin and Cindy Marie Martin, the filmmaking partnership, are addressing another of society's stereotypes of women. And they're doing it with a really clever twist.

You've got to hand it to writer/director Gary Ugarek.
You've got to hand it to writer/director Gary Ugarek. With no traditional schooling in film making or any film making experience, Maryland-based Ugarek has created his own tiny zombie franchise, mainly through keeping his costs low by working with friends and shooting on the weekends so no one has to quit their job.
Ugarek made the first Deadlands movie, Deadlands: The Rising, in 2006 and followed that with Deadlands 2: Trapped in 2008. Deadlands 3, however, is pulling out all the stops by going into pre-production a year before shooting in the spring of 2011 in Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Maryland, and working from a script that in its 5th draft and won't be solely Ugarek's work. Ugarek brought in Lonnie Martin to help write Deadlands 3, which was originally going to be the script for Deadlands 2: Trapped, but instead was saved for the end(?) of Ugarek's trilogy.

Wetnwildradio Films announced today that pre-production is slowly beginning on the last entry into the Deadlands zombie film franchise. This third entry will delve into the post apocalypse and follow a small group of survivors who are trying to exist in the zombie infested world.
This final entry was the original sequel to 2006's Deadlands: The Rising, however during re-writes characters from the original Deadlands 1 were replaced with newer characters, but the screenplay retained its original storyline. Gary Ugarek, writer and director of Deadlands 1 & 2, has been joined by Women's Studies scribe Lonnie Martin for this outting.
"I had originally written the screenplay after wrapping Deadlands 1 back in 2006, and I then asked Lonnie, a close friend, to look it over and he asked to join the project and tweak the screenplay, flushing out the characters and adding a few twists of his own. Since Lonnie joined the project in 2007 we have...

Lonnie Martin and Cindy Marie Martin of Ningen Manga Productions dropped us a line with an update on Women’S Studies, the feminism-oriented fright feature that, at last report, was slated to hit DVD this year. Lonnie, who wrote and directed the movie, reveals why that hasn’t happened—and how the flick has been improved as a result.
“In October 2008, we rendered the services of a sales agent who quickly got us a direct-to-dvd distribution deal,” he tells Fango. “However, due to the economic climate, the company sat on it, giving us a vague ‘fall 2009’ release promise. As we got into this past summer, it become clear that they had lost interest in Women’S Studies. They had a couple of low-budget horror titles with no marquee stars bomb, and decided they didn’t want to release Studies. At that point, we were stuck waiting out various contracts.

Writer/director/co-producer Lonnie Martin gave Fango the scoop that Mti Home Video has picked up his debut feature Women’S Studies. “A lot of work and love was put into this film,” he tells us, “and I’m thrilled people are finally going to get the chance to see it.”
Women’S Studies is about a graduate student in the titular subject who, along with three friends, winds up on the campus of a girls-only academy with an empowering feminist doctrine. The longer they stay, however, the more they discover about the school’s dark and violent side. The filmmaker’s wife, Cindy Marie Martin, co-produced and stars alongside Tara Garwood, Melisa Breiner, Laura Bloechl, James Radack, Kelley Slagle and Night Of The Living Dead’s Judith O’Dea.
“Mti is a perfect fit,” Martin says. “Not only do they have a lot of respect for the horror genre,...
