Director Peter Andrikidis probably never dreamt his name would appear in the same sentence as Steven Spielberg, but that was before he knew their films would open in Australian cinemas on the same day.
It was a mismatch in budgets, scale of release and advertising campaigns but Andrikidis. Alex + Eve and Spielberg.s Bridge of Spies both had respectable debuts in another lousy weekend for ticket sales.
Spielberg.s highly entertaining Cold War mystery/drama starring Tom Hanks, Mark Rylance, John Scott Shepherd and Amy Ryan drummed up $1.8 million on 300 screens including previews.
Pro-rata, that is a bit better than the $US15.3 million debut in the Us, where the Fox/DreamWorks release dropped by a modest 26 per cent in its second weekend, scoring $32.5 million so far - probably a pointer to its holding power here.

The other two had initial orders for 10 episodes and received back 10 orders after strong early ratings performance last summer. For Chasing Life, whose original order was for 13 episodes, the back order comes ahead of its premiere, slated for next year, representing a strong vote of confidence by the network. The Australian shark horror film Bait 3D has scared up enough international love and money to warrant a sequel! The first film, which chronicled a tsunami that kept shoppers inside an Australian supermarket… with a massive great white shark. The store also housed evil bandits. Due to its impressive showing at the international box office, Arclight Films has announced the sequel. No word yet on whether or not it will be a different fish from the deep this time around, but fans of Bait 3D have to be excited by this news. The Kimble Rendall film starred Julian McMahon (Nip/Tuck), Xavier Daniel, and Richard Brancatisano.

The fun, preposterous disaster/shark hybrid Bait floats above similar Dtv fair, but the déjà vu is deep.
Tragedy strikes the waters of a small Australian beach community when a great white shark attacks and kills two people, including lifeguard Rory (Richard Brancatisano). His death tears apart the relationship of his sister Tina (Sharni Vinson) and best friend/fellow lifeguard Josh (The Loved Ones’ Xavier Samuel). One year later, Josh is still haunted by the death of his friend (whom he was seconds away from saving) and laboring at a mindless job as a grocery store employee. Before leaving for work, he catches a news story (Foreshadowing at Five) warning locals about a group of great white sharks in the area who are following the southern migration of humpback whales.

The Bait Trailer and Bait Poster has premiered. Kimble Rendall‘s Bait (2011) movie trailer, poster stars Sharni Vinson, Julian McMahon, Alice Parkinson, Xavier Samuel, and Phoebe Tonkin. Bait (2011)’s plot synopsis: “In a sleepy beach community shoppers at an underground supermarket are terrorized by a crazed bandit when the unimaginable occurs: A monstrous freak tsunami swallows the town. This film looks so much better than Shark Night 3D in my opinion (notice that movie trailer has not been posted on this site) but there has not been a good shark film on screen since Jaws.
