Sydney-based sales agent Odin’s Eye has picked up international rights to Harvey Keitel-starring action feature “Live Fast, Die Laughing.” The film is directed by Timothy Linh Bui and produced by Los Angeles-based Convergence Entertainment.
Scripted by Tim Tori, the film is the story of a broke taxi driver in Vietnam who thinks it is his lucky day when a mysterious American woman offers him a fortune to drive her 1,000 miles from Ho Chi Minh City to Hanoi. They set off, pursued by mobsters and an assassin.
Set to shoot in November, the film will star Francesca Eastwood (“True Crime”) alongside Keitel. Action direction is to be supplied by fight choreographer Vincent Wang.
“Live Fast” is produced by Douglas W. Miller and Tim Kwok through Convergence Entertainment.
“Tim Bui is an authentic and original voice, with a unique story that’s rarely seen in modern-day Vietnam,” Kwok said. “The...

Bulgaria/UK/USA, 2010
There’s nothing wrong with conventional, but by the same token there’s something very wrong with a film that’s too comfortable being conventional. Prowl is the sort of horror film that desires to be nothing more than conventional. From its setup to its reliance on jump scares and an attempted twist; Prowl doesn’t have an unconventional bone in its body. There’s an ache to be vanilla that exists deep within its core, an ache that the film really wants to soothe. Atmosphere, a decent premise, and character are but three elements that Prowl sacrifices in order to be a run-of-the-mill horror film.
There’s a stretch of about fifteen or so minutes near the beginning of Prowl where it seems like the film is going somewhere interesting. The premise is, as previously stated, a decent one,...

After Dark Films is planning to make a big splash at this year's San Diego Comic-Con with a sneak peek into its horror brand After Dark Originals 2. Make sure you stop by Booth #4145 to get the goods.
After Dark will be providing previews of the following:
• Asylum - Starring Stephen Rea, directed by Todor Chapkanov, and written by Chris Mancini. A veteran hostage negotiator’s next call leads him to an overrun insane asylum. He soon finds that dark forces are pushing the patients to commit atrocities, and he may be the only one that can stop them.
• Dark Circles - Starring Johnathon Schaech and Pell James, written and directed by Paul Soter. When new parents Alex and Penny retreat from the city and move into a place outside town, the stress and massive sleep-deprivation caused by their infant has both of them seeing things in the house that may or may not exist.

Let’s get one thing straight: This is not a Jean-Claude Van Damme movie. Although his face is front and center on the DVD artwork, the big guy’s role in the film is very small. However, this isn’t necessarily a bad thing, as it allows former Mma champion Cung Le to flex his considerable muscles. “Universal Soldier: Regeneration” director John Hyams’ immensely satisfying action epic “Dragon Eyes” puts Le in the proverbial driver’s seat, and he does a good job steering the audience through a number of jaw-dropping fight sequences that are as brutal as they are entertaining. As long as you don’t mind Van Damme tackling a much smaller role than most of us are used to, then you shouldn’t have a single thing to complain about. Screenwriter Tim Tori (“Prowl”) uses Akira Kurosawa’s classic “Yojimbo” as a framework to tell the tale...

After Dark Films, the same folks who bring us the After Dark Horrorfest every year, are about to branch out with another closely related genre: action. This week, in partnership with Dark Castle Home Entertainment, they have announced After Dark Action, a series of "five original, adrenaline-pumping films" that will be released simultaneously on demand and in select theatres. The movies feature an impressive line-up of stars that include Jean Claude Van Damme, Dolph Lundgren, Peter Weller, James Caviezel, Harold Perrineau, Scott Adkins and Christian Slater. It certainly sounds promising, but will these movies be any better than the direct-to-video drivel that a lot of these guys have been starring in over the past decade? The full list of films is as follows: Transit – Starring James Caviezel, James Frain, Elizabeth Rohm, Harold Perrineau and Sterling Knight; and directed by Antonio Negret and written by Michael Gilvary Dragon Eyes – Starring Jean Claude Van Damme,...

Dragon Eyes
Stars: Cung Le, Jean Claude Van Damme, Peter Weller, Kristopher Van Varenberg, Crystal Mantecon | Written by Tim Tori | Directed by John Hyams
John Hyams, who previously helmed Van Damme’s Universal Soldier: Regeneration, teams up with the actor once again for Dragon Eyes and whilst Van Damme was the focus of their first collaboration, this time round the star of the show is Cung Le, the Sanshou practitioner and former Mma champion who we last saw as Marshall Law in the Tekken movie released here in the UK last year. The film tells the story of Hong (Le), a former convict who, upon leaving prison, takes up residence in St. Jude Square, a neighbourhood living in fear as duelling drug gangs and corrupt police terrorize the streets. However Hong decides to take a stand and fight back using his martial arts skills and calling on the teachings of...

Prowl is one of eight films produced by After Dark Films, as part of its 2011 After Dark Originals production program. This title was recently released on DVD March 29th and the film involves six friends on a road trip to the Windy City. The trip does not go as planned and soon a hungry supernatural element is introduced, which adds both tension and mystery to a solid independent horror feature.
Other film critics have given this film a peep and Matt Withers has said of the film: "Prowl rises well above most of it's kin" Withers talks primarily about the excellent performances of the cast, but Prowl is also creative in its execution. If you have not read the plot, then your knowledge of what will happen to six twenty-somethings locked in a semi-trailer will be limited. This not-knowing is what created much of the tension for this reviewer,...

First off, a quick round of applause to “Prowl” for being a brand new vampire flick with an attractive cast and not a single stitch lifted from a “Twilight” movie. Nope, “Prowl” may not be all that original, but at least it borrows from honest vampire movies.
Instead of teen angst pictures with blood, “Prowl” is from the “30 Days of Night” sect. As a matter of fact, this could almost have been a direct-to-dvd sequel if the right people would have gotten together before it was distributed. Instead of an After Dark Original, this well could have been “30 Days Part 3.” And while that may come off as snarky, I actually do mean it as a sort of praise.
“Prowl” starts off masquerading as another ‘teens stranded on the side of the road” pic but quickly takes a turn. We are meant to think we’re...

There are four notable horror features releasing Tuesday, March 29th on DVD or Blu-Ray. The After Dark Originals are hosting two of the films, including Husk and Prowl. Another is from Canadian director Ryan Nicholson (Gutterballs), while the final entry is the second film in thirty years from production company Hammer Films - The Resident.

Chicago – Stalled cars, prophetic visions, fresh meat in need of tenderizing, and off-handed expulsions of the dreaded line, “I’ll be right back.” These are merely a handful of the timeworn elements utilized by two new direct-to-video releases from After Dark Films. Both pictures are competently made and well acted, which makes their lack of originality all the more depressing.
Brett Simmons’s “Husk” and Patrik Syversen’s “Prowl” are billed as titles in the After Dark Originals series, the collection of horror films financed and produced solely by After Dark Films, which seems hellbent on providing even more content for FearNet OnDemand. They’re the sort of films I tend to watch during a bout of insomnia. Throw one of these diverting yet disposable flicks on the screen, and you’re guaranteed to fall asleep in no time.

Here's a motivator for not hitchhiking: "friends gratefully accept a ride in the back of a semi...the truck disgorges them into a dark, abandoned warehouse where blood-thirsty creatures learn to hunt human prey, which...they now are!" (After Dark). You could end up as lunchmeat! This is the basic premise for Prowl, one of the After Dark Originals.
Now, a feature trailer for this feature is provided and the timing could not be any better. Prowl releases with Seconds Apart, Fertile Ground, The Task, and Husk today (January 28th). More After Dark Originals goodness comes our way, this time courtesy of Courtney Hope, who talks about her experiences on the set of Patrik Syversen's Prowl (click here for our recent interview with director Syversen)!
Chris Haberman: What attracted you to the project and/or character?
Courtney Hope: I’ve never had the opportunity to be a part of a horror film, and it was something that has always interested me. I absolutely love horror films, and I thought it was a very interesting script. I fell in love with Amber's character and how driven she was and thought it was really intriguing how we see her battle her inner and outer demons throughout the script.
Haberman: How did the shoot go overall? Do you have any fun set stories?
Hope: The shoot was crazy, but incredible. It was crammed into about 18 days, and it was very fast paced.

In our ongoing investigation into the After Dark Originals line-up, we were lucky enough to chat with Prowl director Patrik Syversen. The gent had quite a bit to say about the flick, which pits a truckload of young ‘uns against a warehouse full of blood-drinkers!
Chris Haberman: What attracted you to the project?
Patrik Syversen: I got the script and responded to the fact that it had a strong central character with a very specific conflict. In result, the horror elements are sort of a catalyst for the main character's arc. It's also a very intense survival horror with themes I could relate to, and that is the most important part. It has to be a story I feel worth telling, a story that means something to me personally. And I found that in Tim Tori's script. In addition, I've always wanted to do a creature film, and...

Here ends, I suppose, the series of cryptic emails I have exchanged with director Patrik Syversen in which he has spent a bout a year telling me that he's working on something while declining to elaborate further. Heh.
Syversen should really need no introduction around these parts. As the director of Rovdyr - Manhunt in English speaking markets - Syversen has been at the forefront of the wave of genre film currently emerging from the Nordic countries. And though Rovdyr showed a few growing pains it also clearly showed that Syversen was ready for bigger things, a lesson clearly not lost on the folks behind the After Dark Films, who tapped the director to helm one of their initial slate of original productions. Here are the details, and check a pair of stills below!

This scribe caught up with actor and all-around nice guy Bill Moseley(The Devil’s Rejects), who's adding yet another genre notch to his already prolific career in horror.
"I'm up here in Grants Pass, Oregon, shooting a sick and as yet uncovered movie called 'Rogue River'," the actor informed us. "It's directed by Jourdan McClure - remember that name! – and it stars me, Michelle Page (Sensored) , Michael (Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer) Rooker, and my real-life girlfriend (television actress) Lucinda Jenney."
Filming until December 20th, first-time filmmaker McClure is shooting from a script penned by screenwriters Kevin (Sensored) Haskin and Ryan Finnerty. Dread did some dredging of Rogue River, and here’s the upshot: The film revolves around the plight of Mara (played by Page), who, while scattering her father’s ashes, makes the acquaintance of a seemingly benign man named Jon (Moseley). Appearances are deceiving,...
