Jennifer Hackett remembers the first time she took a tender boat out to Octopus, the superyacht owned by Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen that boasted two helipads and an onboard submarine and hosted one of the most exclusive parties at the Cannes Film Festival. In 2015, while vp special projects at Paradigm, where she was responsible for everything from corporate sponsorships and event planning to high-end gifting and ticketing, Hackett had signed with Allen (who died in 2018) and his Vulcan Productions to curate his Cannes experience, including film recommendations, liaising with protection teams and helping oversee Octopus’ guest list.
Two years later, the Florida-raised and Vanderbilt-educated Hackett founded Jnh & Co. to address a very specific niche in the entertainment industry: “The most intricate 2 to 5 percent of what other companies do — talent relations companies, personal publicity companies, event management companies — is 100 percent of what we do,” she says. Summer is drawing to a close, giving way to fall and everything that comes with it. From colourful leaves to kids returning to their classrooms, it’s a season that, in certain respects, marks the start of a new year. It also ushers in the beginning of something else that many of us Canadians look forward to, that being hockey season. With cooler weather comes early morning practices, lively community rinks and, of course, more NHL competition, which is preceded yet again by the release of EA Sports’ NHL 17.
With NHL 17, EA Sports’ Canadian unit looks to build upon last year’s standout effort, which followed a very ho-hum and oft complained about debut on current-gen hardware. So, the 2014-15 NHL Regular Season is over, which means we have reached that time again: Playoffs. With two rounds already finished, we are moving ever closer to crowning a new Champion. In my play-through of NHL 15, the NHL simulation title from EA Sports, I’m in the same position and it feels way different than it did before.
In earlier iterations of the game on previous gen consoles, the playoffs felt empty. There was never a huge sense of excitement when you won that fourth game and moved on to the next round. But this year, it feels bigger. It feels like you really made it to the big show. The Canadians are on the brink of their third gold medal in four Olympics, and they're guaranteed their first medals outside North America in 20 years. After its first loss in Sochi, the U.S. will face Finland for bronze on Saturday. The defending Olympic champions left no doubt about their...

This story first appeared in the Aug. 23 issue of The Hollywood Reporter magazine. "I'm pretty structured," says Pat Brisson, sports agent and co-head of CAA's hockey division. "I have no choice because there are too many balls in the air." Those balls represent, in part, a client roster that includes five No. 1 NHL draft picks since 2005, including Sidney Crosby, for whom he negotiated a 12-year, $104.4 million contract extension with the Pittsburgh Penguins. Brisson is busiest during the weeks from mid-June to early July that span the draft, the league's free

There is a camp for everything. Dance, wrestling, Jesus — you name it, your kid can camp it. In Judd Ehrlich’s charming Magic Camp, the kids have no desire to be the next LeBron James or Sidney Crosby, however; they want to be like one of the Davids, Blaine or Copperfield. Held each summer in Bryn Mawr, Pa, Tannen’s Magic Camp, a spinoff of the famed Gotham magic store, teaches teenagers, mostly boys, the fine art of making a rabbit disappear into their ear or a wand suddenly appear in their hand. You think it’s difficult to saw someone in half? Just …...

Testosterone courses through every male and female body and is responsible for increased levels of intensity and machismo. Some films out there are no different, reflecting the director’s capability to establish such atmospheric emotions.
Successful movies display steroid enhanced levels of the infectious feeling, reactively raising audience levels as well, while other failed attempts barely muster a timid whimper. Be it casting, writing, or visual delivery, nothing gets the blood flowing like a good old fashion testosterone blow out film.
The Expendables knew a thing or two about testosterone influenced action, boasting one of the most star-studded action casts ever assembled. Teaming up the likes of Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren and Terry Crewes was an ensemble treat, but why stop there? Additions of ”Stone Cold” Steve Austin, Mickey Rourke, Bruce Willis, and Arnold Schwarzeneggar completed Stallone’s beefcake driven action movie.

"I don't mind being the underdog." That's an interesting statement coming from Taylor Kitsch, the star of two films in the next four months --"John Carter" and "Battleship" -- with budgets reportedly over $200 million. Kitsch becomes ornery the second the word "budget" is even mentioned, claiming -- after a sarcastic interlude -- that it's not something he thinks about. But the reality is, by circumstance, the up and coming (but not yet a household name) actor is in the position of playing the lead in two tent-pole films this year -- two expensive tent-pole films that two separate studios are nervous about. Yeah, maybe I'd be ornery, too.
The first of those films is "John Carter." Kitsch plays the title character, a Confederate solider in the Civil War who finds himself mysteriously transported to Mars. On Mars, because of the gravity, Carter has superhuman powers, which makes him a...

Go beyond the game! The NHL Winter Classic is becoming a yearly tradition. The game happens every year around New Year’s Day and what makes the game so unique is that it takes place outside, usually in a stadium or arena. The 2011 matchup put the Pittsburgh Penguins versus the Washington Capitals but to the average NHL fan this game was more than epic match up of Sidney Crosby versus Alexander Ovechkin. 24/7: The Road to the NHL Winter Classic aired on HBO, and was an episodic series that took you through four weeks of unprecedented “backstage” access to both teams leading up to the game. Both teams are contenders for the coveted Stanley Cup Trophy at the time of filming. Their match up is highly televised every time the puck is dropped. The Winter Classic was another epic battle between the two heavyweights.

After suffering a concussion back in early January, Pittsburgh Penguins' Sidney Crosby returned the ice for the first time Monday morning (Mar. 14). Crosby reportedly donned full gear for a brief 15-minute skate.
The NHL superstar has impeccable timing, as the league's general managers are in the midst of discussing preventative measures regarding concussions. An important issue surrounding an extremely physical sport.
The 23-year-old has been shooting a puck in an arena room, and only recently began riding a stationary bike again. After his morning skate, Crosby is still unsure about returning to an actual game.
"I'm not thinking too far ahead as far as a time frame. I just want to get better," he states according to USA Today. "This is part of the way to do that. I'm just kind of taking that step and seeing how it goes."

Hockey players are already famous for missing teeth and short tempers, but could brain damage be next?
Many find it hard to believe that men engaged in a sport of that nature could not be brain damaged, what with all the fighting and high impact collisions, but the repercussions could be even worse than we though.
Bob Probert tragically passed away in July at the age of 45 after making a name for himself in the NHL as an enforcer. He drank, he fought and he racked up the penalty minutes -- 3,300 of them to be exact. Just the type of player most hockey fans like to see.
Following his death, his brain was donated to science. According to the New York Times, Probert wanted to "advance the research" behind brain injuries in hockey players.
Boston University researchers announced on Thursday (Mar. 3) that the Canadian native suffered from a degenerative brain disease called Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy.

This is a list of 10 Real But Ridiculous 2011 Super Bowl Prop Bets — all of which have nothing to do with the actual game itself — along with their odds (explained here) and my supremely expert betting advice that is absolutely Guaranteed to win you CA$$$$$H!!! (Not really). Enough brief explaining, let’s get to the bet$: 10. How long will Christina Aguilera hold the note “Brave” at the end of the National Anthem? (Time starts from when she starts saying “Brave” until her the note ends. If she says the full word twice wagers will be No Action.) Over 6 seconds: -140 Under 6 seconds: Even Bet: Under. This is a classic prop bet where the odds are clearly titled towards the more fun/ridiculous option to bet; it’s amusing to bet money that Christina Aguilera will hold a note for a stupidly long amount of time, but is anyone actually...

Happy Chinese New Year, everybody! From now until January 23, 2012, consider it the Year of the Rabbit (with the Year of the Tiger having just wrapped and the Year of the Dragon on the horizon). In China, the celebration of the new year is a 15-day affair, so hang out your red lanterns (to ward off the mythical man-eating beast Nian) and prepare to party.
The 12 animals of the Chinese zodiac (Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Ram, Monkey, Rooster, Dog and Pig) are each meant to inform the personalities of the people born during their particular years. People born during the Year of the Rabbit (which includes anybody born in 1975, 1987 and 1999) tend to be soft-spoken, sensitive, artistic and reserved. But which celebrities are denizens of the Rabbit? The list from 1975 includes 50 Cent, Eva Longoria, Enrique Iglesias, Jack White, "Mad Men" star Christina Hendricks, 2010 MTV Video Music Awards host Chelsea Handler...

The NHL didn't go old school when it shook up its All-Star Game. It went elementary school. Remember picking kick ball teams at recess? That's basically what the two captains — Eric Staal of the Carolina Hurricanes and Nicklas Lidstrom of the Detroit Red Wings — will do Friday (8/7c, Versus), selecting teams in a fantasy draft from a pool of players voted in by the league and fans. It's a radical departure from the usual Eastern Conference versus Western Conference format. "Picking sides is fascinating," says play-by-play announcer Mike Emrick, who will call Sunday's game for Versus. "Do you pick your friends? Do you pick the best players? This makes it a lot more entertaining."
Though the Pittsburgh Penguin's Sidney Crosby — the NHL's current wonder boy — is sitting the game out while recovering from a concussion, many other top stars are expected to play, including leading the league's top scorer ...

Think of this not as a comprehensive recap for 2010, a memorable period in the sports world that saw the two premier global athletic events in play, champions new and old, and the cult of personality in full force. You can go elsewhere for the highlights, the lists, and the stats. Rather this is just one guy's impression of the year as it was, and for those of you Pajiba readers who are not down with the sports world, think of this as a primer that might provide you with a few answers for Jeopardy! or Trivial Pursuit someday.

This week is just about over, which means it's time to decide what to do with your weekend. You'll probably be splitting time between taking care of holiday shopping and hiding from the cold, but you should really only be concerned about just how badly Ufc welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre is going to pound challenger Josh Koscheck inside the Octagon in Toronto on Saturday night (December 11). After a season of hyping up the conflict on "The Ultimate Fighter," both men are primed for a classic confrontation. In their first meeting, St-Pierre dominated Koscheck for three rounds and won a decision, but the French-Canadian known as "Rush" has gotten even better since then. Koscheck will put up a good fight, but St-Pierre might be the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world right now, and Koscheck won't be able to handle his skill set. The official prediction? St-Pierre by decision.

Photograph by Bruce Weber Rich Cohen spotlights hockey’s biggest stars, Alex Ovechkin and Sidney Crosby, in the January issue of Vanity Fair. Cohen provided Vf Daily with the full transcript of his interview with Crosby, whose last-minute heroics won Canada a gold medal at the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver. Crosby talks pond-hockey, first fights, and Pittsburgh Steelers football. Rich Cohen: On January 1, you and the Pittsburgh Penguins are playing the Washington Capitals in the N.H.L. Winter Classic. The game is unusual because it’s outdoors, on a rink without boards. Does it feel different from a regular game? Sidney Crosby: Oh yeah. You’re playing on an outdoor rink in a football stadium, for starters. There’s something unique about that. I mean, I played outside—on lakes and ponds—as a kid. Also, with this game, there’s obviously a lot of buildup. It’s a big game,...
