Thanks to the generous support of the UK public, Unicef UK supporters, ITV1, Stv and Itvx viewers, this year’s amount brings the current total raised to date, since Soccer Aid for Unicef was founded by Unicef UK Ambassador Robbie Williams in 2006, to over £90 million for children worldwide.
The hotly anticipated match took place at the sold-out Old Trafford stadium in Manchester – welcoming back over 63,000 fans to the same venue that hosted the very first Soccer Aid for Unicef match in 2006. The match ended 4-2 to Soccer Aid World XI, with the team keeping the overall lead with 7-5 wins since the inaugural 2006 match.

At the Cannes Film Festival, Italy’s 102 Distribution is selling thriller “Light Falls,” directed by Phedon Papamichael, the cinematographer on James Mangold’s “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.” Papamichael, who was Oscar nominated for handling the cinematography on Alexander Payne’s “Nebraska” and Aaron Sorkin’s “The Trial of the Chicago 7,” talks to Variety about shooting “Light Falls.”
The film tells the story of Clara, played by Elene Makharashvili, and Ella, played by Nini Nebieridze, two young lovers whose Greek island holiday spirals out of control when a tragic incident leads to an encounter with a trio of illegal Albanian immigrants. The thriller establishes the relationship of the young women before moving in a darker and more violent direction.
Papamichael told Variety: “The movie starts like an Eric Rohmer movie and ends like a Tarantino movie. It has a social political angle as well as playing like a thriller.

Giorgio Diritti’s biopic “Hidden Away,” about crazed primitivist painter Antonio Ligabue, was the big winner at Italy’s 66th David di Donatello Awards, the country’s top film prizes.
The Davids were held with an in-person ceremony aired from two venues amid a strong spirit of restart as Italian movie theaters gradually begin to reopen.
“Hidden Away,” which was the frontrunner with 15 nominations, scored seven statuettes including best picture, director and actor honors won by Elio Germano who tackles “the fiendishly difficult role” of the self-taught artist “with customary gusto,” as Variety critic Jay Weissberg noted in his review.
The best actress statuette went to Sophia Loren for her role as Madame Rosa, a former prostitute and Holocaust survivor, in Netflix Original “The Life Ahead,” directed by her son Edoardo Ponti. The Italian icon’s return to the big screen after a decade had been snubbed by the Oscars earlier this year.

My Name is Francesco Totti, The Rossellinis and 1968 The Braibanti Trial have been named best documentaries of the year by the journalists of the Italian National Association of Film Journalists, during an edition of the Nastri d’Argento Documentary Awards dedicated to the great documentary-maker Cecilia Mangini, who passed away in January. Alex Infascelli’s film about football champion Francesco Totti walked away with the Reality Cinema Nastro, as well as taking home the Prize for Best Protagonist, which went to Totti himself, who not only fielded the ball in the movie, but also his image, his human and professional journey and his innermost emotions. NBCUniversal Global Distribution has closed a deal for all international rights outside Italy, Germany and the U.K. on Italian soccer icon doc “My Name Is Francesco Totti,” an intimate look at the life and career of long-time A.S. Roma team captain Francesco Totti.
Directed by Rome native Alex Infascelli (“S Is for Stanley”) who had access to its star and lots of archival material – including home movies and images from Totti and his family – the high-profile piece is narrated by Totti. On the night before his farewell to soccer the team captain basically relives his life as though he were watching it as a movie, together with his fans, his team, and collectively his native Rome, the city that during his long faithful career he has come to encapsulate like few others.
The deal was inked between Sky Studios and Italian sales company Vision Distribution International, in which Sky is a partner.

Only some of Italian footballer Francesco Totti’s 334 career goals (307 scored with Roma, the only team he ever played for outside the nationals) are shown in Alex Infascelli’s bio-doc My Name Is Francesco Totti (Mi chiamo Francesco Totti). Nor is there very much about the icon’s private life; there are no attempts at intimate revelations or powerful insights. But the subject is such a natural charmer and his athletic feats so reliable that the film is a relaxing watch, even for those who don’t flash the team’s yellow and red colors.

Rome Film Festival artistic director Antonio Monda on Monday unveiled a rich lineup for the event’s 15th edition, which is on track to take place Oct. 15-25 as a physical event. It comprises 24 titles repping a well-assorted mix of mainstream movies in the official selection – such as Pixar’s “Soul,” the fest’s opener – and also more eclectic fare.
Most of the films have surfaced previously, including nine entries that carry a Cannes 2020 label. And among these Monda regrets he was unable to get “The French Dispatch” by Wes Anderson, a director with whom he has a personal rapport.
Still, Monda has also secured some world premieres this year, including “Home,” which marks the directorial debut of German actor Franka Potente (“The Bourne Supremacy”), and Algeria-set drama “My Traitor, My Love,” by France’s Helier Cisterne.

The As Roma striker has missed much of the early season through injury, but has scored 3 goals in 4 league games since returning. He’s been capped 4 times for the Azzurrini at international level as well, scoring against Malta in a World Cup qualifier in 2012. He’ll be looking to ensure he’s...

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has refused to rule out the prospect of swapping Juan Mata for Wayne Rooney in a possible part-exchange deal this summer, according to the Metro.
Mata’s future has been the subject of much speculation during the transfer window with reports suggesting the Spain international was included as part of Chelsea’s first offer for Rooney.
Willian’s expected move from Anzhi this week has also raised question marks over the 25-year-old’s future, just two seasons after joining the West London club from Valencia.
And when asked what would happen if United asked for Mata as part-exchange for Rooney, Mourinho was evasive on the topic.
“That’s hypothetical, because they didn’t ask.
“The two answers we got from Man United is ‘we don’t accept the bid’, ‘we’re not interested in selling the player’.
“That’s the only official contact we had with Man United.

Mario Balotelli, on the cover of Italian Vanity Fair in May. Photograph by Max & Douglas. Inter Milan forward Mario Balotelli is without a doubt one of the most talented soccer players in Italy. But he is gifted in other ways, too: he brings out the worst in everyone who enters his orbit. Opposing fans have taunted him with racist chants, his teammates have berated him in unprintable verbal tirades, and Italy’s beloved soccer hero Francesco Totti physically assaulted him in a match. Is it any surprise then that Italy’s national team coach Marcello Lippi did not select him for the World Cup team? In an exclusive interview with Gabriele Romagnoli for Italian Vanity Fair, Balotelli discusses what has made him such a controversial figure in Italian soccer. Edited by Nicoletta Ferrari. Translated from the Italian by Andrew Sciaulino. He is only 19 years old. We have to bear this...

Roma’s Francesco Totti, in red, behind Inter Milan’s Mario Balotelli, coiled for the kick that would earn him a red card in the Coppa Italia final, May 5, 2010. Yesterday afternoon I watched the final of the Coppa Italia, a match between Inter Milan and Roma, Serie A’s two top teams, at an Italian soccer café on Manhattan’s Upper West Side. Despite being “emblazoned in the gold and burgundy hues of Rome’s soccer team” and offering “a restroom emblazoned with oversized trading card pictures of the team players,” the café attracted only three native Italian speakers for the match, all Inter supporters. The game was shown on some sort of jerry-rigged glorified computer monitor. The sound system blared volume from an English Premier League match being shown on the proper high-definition, flat-screen TV above the Italian game. It seemed only fitting that the Coppa Italia final turned...
