With the motion picture Concussion already a topic of national conversation among NFL fans and commentators, Sony Pictures Entertainment is offering NFL players and their families free admission to the movie during the duration of the film’s run, which begins on Christmas Day.
The studio has already engaged many current and former NFL players, holding private screenings in each team’s city in advance of its opening. By reaching out to the people who are most impacted by the film’s themes, the studio is engaging with the NFL players to join the national dialogue about the film.
Commenting on the announcement, Ridley Scott and Producer Giannina Scott (who first brought the project to him and produced it with him), said, “This is a movie for the players, so we wanted to give them a chance to see it before its nationwide release and free admission during its run in theaters.

In 2012, Sony brought a monster mash to the big screen with Hotel Transylvania, an animated comedy take on classic monsters that featured Adam Sandler as the voice of Dracula, Kevin James as Frankenstein’s monster, and many more. With the sequel due out next fall, a new addition to the voice cast has been announced: the legendary Mel Brooks, who will voice Dracula’s vampire father, Vlad.
Deadline reports that Mel Brooks will voice Vlad, a character with a serious grumpy side (though he’s smiling in the photo shown above). As many fans of Bram Stoker’s Dracula know, the real life 15th century ruler, Vlad III Dracula, aka Vlad the Impaler, helped inspire the Count Dracula character.
Brooks is no stranger to portraying classic monsters in a comedic way, having helmed and co-written Young Frankenstein 40 years ago. Brooks also directed, co-wrote, and co-starred as Professor Van Helsing in...

Comedy legend Mel Brooks has been tapped to voice Vlad in Sony Pictures Animation’s Hotel Transylvania 2. He’ll play the very old and grumpy vampire father to Adam Sandler’s Dracula. The sequel to Sony’s 2012 family film sees old-school supernatural meet modern-day cool when Vlad turns up at the hotel for an impromptu family get-together. Genndy Tartakovsky is helming again from a script by Robert Smigel. The original movie made about $360M worldwide and was nominated for a Golden Globe. This one is set for release September 25.
The Oscar-, Tony-, Grammy- and Emmy-winning Brooks has some cinematic vampire experience; he directed, produced and co-wrote 1995’s Dracula: Dead And Loving It, also starring as vamp hunter Val Helsing. He said of the Hotel Transylvania character: “He’s been around for eons, and he’s a pretty crabby guy. Basically, he reminds me of me.”

The London Film Festival (Oct 8-19) will close with the European premiere of Sony’s Second World War tank drama Fury, which stars Brad Pitt as a battle-hardened Us army sergeant leading a deadly mission behind enemy lines.
The October 19 screening at Odeon Leicester Square will be attended by Pitt and writer-director David Ayer (End of Watch) while a cinecast from the red carpet and simultaneous screenings will take place at cinemas across the UK.
The tank drama, co-starring Shia Labeouf, Logan Lerman, Scott Eastwood, Michael Pena and Jason Isaacs, was recently moved up in the Us from November 14 to October 17, making it closer to the Telluride and Toronto film festivals, which is where Pitt’s 12 Years a Slave debuted last year. However, so far neither festival has confirmed the film.

Exclusive: While Sony seemed ready to go to the altar last fall on a three-year slate finance deal with Blue Anchor Entertainment that was to bring $300M-$350M in equity spread across the Sony slate, the studio has grown very impatient that the deal hasn’t closed, and I’m told Michael Lynton is now looking at other suitors for which might be a slightly different version of the mammoth deal. I’m hearing that the lead horse might well be CitiGroup and Ben Waisbren, which until now seemed reluctant to be involved in the entertainment industry after losing money in recent ventures. They are not the only party in the mix, I’m told. Back when Blue Anchor–led by Bloom Hergott partner John Laviolette and vet producer and former investment banker Joseph M. Singer–surfaced as the favorite to make this deal, Deadline reported that Bank of America...

According to Deadline Twisted Pictures, the company behind the Saw series and other genre films, has made an output and distribution deal with Wild Bunch. Read on for details.
The Paris-based distribution and sales company will acquire and distribute the worldwide rights in all media for Twisted Pictures, the genre label of Mark Burg’s Evolution Entertainment. The deal will run for three years, and Twisted Pictures plans to generate up to two films each year, with an emphasis on low-budget genre fare featuring new filmmakers.
It’s a major step forward for Burg since he bought out co-founder Oren Koules’ 50% stake in Evolution last June and named Mike Menchel to run the production/management company as president. Evolution, longtime manager of Charlie Sheen, was a producer of "Two and a Half Men" and will be a producer on Sheen’s upcoming FX series "Anger Management".

New York -- The film financing sector has a dark cloud hovering overhead, experts in the sector said Tuesday at the Media and Money Conference in New York, but not one without some silver lining.
Well before the global financial crisis came to a head in recent weeks, market conditions had been brutal for financing movies. Panelists ticked off a litany of problems that are seeing outside investment dry up, including piracy, increasing debt and a supply-demand imbalance between films and distribution.
"What we're going through in this space is effectively a perfect storm," Benjamin Waisbren, president and CEO of Continental Entertainment Capital told moderator Georg Szalai, New York bureau chief and business editor at The Hollywood Reporter.
"You're unlikely to see the go-go years of film financing of the last four or five years which effectively ended last summer," said Tuna Amobi, senior equity analyst of the media and...

PARIS -- U.S.-based investment firm Continental Entertainment Capital is launching CEC Europe, a Paris-based operation headed by Yann Le Quellec, CEC said Friday.
CEC's European branch, which aims to provide financing to European media and entertainment companies, will focus its activities on the film industry, having already announced a co-production venture with French indie Wild Bunch in September.
Le Quellec, an adviser to Wild Bunch on the transaction, is also co-founder and managing director of production-financing company Sofica Cinemage.
"Yann is a brilliant financial professional who knows the European market. He will be instrumental to the company's international growth," CEC president and CEO Ben Waisbren said.
CEC is financing Sangmoo Lee's "The Laundry Warrior", starring Geoffrey Rush and Kate Bosworth, and Frank Miller's "The Spirit" for Lionsgate.
