Many dancers auditioned for a chance to compete on “So You Think You Can Dance” for season 18. Dozens were sent through to the choreography round by judges Maksim Chmerkovskiy, Comfort Fedoke and Allison Holker. But only 10 can advance from here.
“Dancers, are you ready? Judges, are you ready?” asks host Cat Deeley to enthusiastic cheers at the start of “The Final Auditions: Top Ten Revealed.” Allison then tells the dancers what they can expect, including the fact that this round of auditions will only last one day and will end with the selection of the top 10 dancers moving on, which seems to take many of the contestants by surprise. “Those 10 of you, who move forward will experience the challenges of actual working dancers, and let me remind you, only one of you will win $100,000.”

For years, Rob Mariano operated as a veritable Survivor ambassador, having first appeared in Marquesas before going on to compete five more times on the CBS franchise. His celebrity became so valuable to the network that he would compete twice on The Amazing Race and even allowed CBS to film his 2005 nuptials to fellow Survivor contestant Amber Brkirch.
But when NBC’s Deal or No Deal Island came calling with the chance to compete, Mariano didn’t hesitate to put CBS reality shows in the rearview mirror so he could try something new on a different network.
“Of course, I love CBS, that’s where I got my start, and I have been loyal to ’em for a lot of years,” Mariano tells Deadline. “But throughout the years I’ve done projects for other outlets. I did a pilot for the History Channel, I worked for the Sci-Fi channel. At...

“So You Think You Can Dance” season 18 ended the first stage of the competition on Monday night, March 18, with the last dance hopefuls looking for a spot in the choreography round. So far the bar has been set pretty high by standout performances from dancers representing a variety of dance styles, shapes, sizes and ability levels. So who stood out among the last crop of contestants? Did the show save the best for last?
“We’ve put 25 people through,” said judge Allison Holker at the start of the show. She singled out contemporary dancer Braylon Browner and gymnast Dakayla Wilson as standouts from the first two days of auditions. Comfort Fedoke agreed that Wilson is capable of anything a professional choreographer could throw at her. Maksim Chmerkovskiy was especially impressed by contemporary dancer Easton Magliarditi. But “there’s so many other things outside of dance that we’re also looking at.

That’s how I got into Latin ballroom,” Santos explained. She also has an older sister who was recently diagnosed with ovarian cancer, and “having her push in her life has helped me push in my life.” Was she able to come through with a worthy performance and advance to the next round of the competition? No … then yes.

Do the Gamers know they don't have a monopoly on reality television?
The second season of The Traitors is a cultural experience -- it's the Megatron of reality television. It has so much built-in reality TV lore and glory that it's no wonder it sets social media on fire.
Honestly, it's the Olympics of reality television and absolutely delicious for understanding every facet of how the genre and its respective fandoms work.
It's the Super Bowl of reality greatness. While some kinks still need to be worked out with the series, from formatting to editing and plenty in between, The Traitors U.S. understands the assignment and deserves to be the hit that it is.
All renditions of The Traitors are positively devourable for various reasons. The savagery of The Traitors U.K. is epic all on its own, and The Traitors Australia has fascinating gameplay.
But The Traitors U.

The season premiere of “So You Think You Can Dance” was full of mostly contemporary and hip-hop performances — some better, some worse — so it was a breath of fresh air when Jin Lee told us what her performance style would be: bone-breaking, Chinese folk and waving. “I lost my father two years ago,” the 24-year-old hopeful explained. “He brought me to be curious about so many things and so many forms of art … I would not be able to move like this without him.” Watch her complete audition above.
Her routine wasn’t the most grandiose that we saw on night one, but the emotions it evoked brought judges Allison Holker and Comfort Fedoke to tears. “I just felt the tide, I felt the energy just kept building up until you got into a bit of your bone-breaking, and yet it still had grace in it. It was lovely,” said Fedoke.

Cat Deeley is back as host of the show, but there are major changes around her as the series revamps its format for this latest edition of the competition. For starters, we have a refreshed judging panel. “Dancing with the Stars” Mirror Ball champion Maksim Chmerkovskiy is coming onboard “Sytycd” as a judge for the very first time, joining Emmy-nominated “DWTS” and “Sytycd” alum Allison Holker and returning “Sytycd” judge JoJo Siwa, who recently made “DWTS” history as the first celebrity to compete with a same-sex partner, Jenna Johnson; they ultimately finished second. During this year’s “Sytycd” auditions rounds, series All-Star Comfort Fedoke...

Maksim Chmerkovskiy is misunderstood.
At least that’s what he’ll say if you ask. The professional dancer, who previously competed on 17 seasons of “Dancing With the Stars” and won once, left the ABC series in 2017 and has a brand new role: judge on Fox’s “So You Think You Can Dance.” Oddly enough, he’s best known for challenging the judges on his former show. So now, it may be coming back around.
“Challenge me, please! One thing I’m not is a hypocrite. I learned early in life that if you want to dish it out, you’ve got to be able to take it,” he tells Variety. “This has to be a professional exchange. Come at me with facts and knowledge and I’ll come back at you with how it really is in the real world, from my personal experience. I’m not going to say,...

Since Dancing With the Stars launched in 2005, it has featured some questionable celebrities, including Carole Baskin, Sean Spicer, and more we’d rather not think about.
Now, producers are opening up about why these “clickbait” names are necessary for the competition series.
During ABC’s part of the Television Critics Association winter press tour on Saturday, EP Deena Katz said that the show needs “a little bit of that clickbait wow that gets people there.”
It makes sense. Specific names will generate headlines when their names are announced, as evidenced by both Baskin and Spicer’s castings.
Neither made it far into the competition, but it certainly got people talking about the show, and there’s also that curiosity factor about how well they fare in the process.
While that may be the case, Katz also stressed during the panel that there’s also the pressure to bring in new...

Allison Holker Boss is back on the So You Think You Can Dance set. The dancer and widow of Stephen “tWitch” Boss will serve as a judge on the show’s forthcoming season 18.
Allison announced her arrival to the show in an Instagram Story on Thursday, marking her first return to the series since the death of her husband in 2022. From her trailer, she posted a selfie with the words “back on set” and a second photo thanking her glam team.
So You Think You Can Dance announced Allison as a new judge in December 2023. Her appearance follows in the footsteps of tWitch, who served as a judge in seasons 15 and 17.
For season 18, Allison will be joined by her fellow Dancing With the Stars alum (and Sytycd newcomer) Maksim Chmerkovskiy and returning judge JoJo Siwa. Longtime judge Nigel Lythgoe was also scheduled to return but exited the show in January following claims of sexual assault.
