An injured man without sight and a pregnant police officer must team up to survive ravenous zombies in DeadSight, and with the new horror movie out now on DVD, On Demand, and digital platforms from Rlje Films, we caught up with director Jesse Thomas Cook in our latest Q&a feature to discuss his approach to telling a new living dead tale, the movie's references to Night of the Living Dead and Resident Evil video games, and collaborating with his wife, Liv Collins, who stars in and co-wrote the film.
Thanks for taking the time to catch up with us, Jesse, and congratulations on DeadSight! When did you first read the screenplay by Liv Collins and Kevin Revie, and what made you want to bring this story to life on screen?

Ever since his breakthrough film, 2011’s Monster Brawl, Canadian filmmaker Jesse Thomas Cook’s love for zombies was more than evident. In said brawl, one of the contenders from the undead conference was, precisely, the Zombie Man (played by Rico Montana), a being from a late sixties outbreak that the military has kept in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in an obvious nod to George A. Romero’s influential masterpiece Night of the Living Dead. Now, Cook is back with Deadsight, his very first full-on take on the zombie subgenre. After unknown reasons have caused a zombie apocalypse, Ben (Adam Seybold) wakes up inside an abandoned ambulance, only to realize that he has lost his sight and has no recollection of how he ended up there. As he tries to...

As far as psychological body horror films go, Cody Calahan’s Let Her Out plays all the expected Cronenbergian beats while exuding a neon hue. Nothing more, nothing less. Canada’s Black Fawn team once again work their indie charms through low-budget tightrope walking, and bring supernatural unrest without some Toronto-sized price tag.
This is a cool, calm and collected attack on sibling rivalries, compact and delusional enough to cruise through a psyche-bending battle of inner-wits. Blackouts skip time while a woman learns about the sister she never knew, until Calahan unleashes a skin-crawling finale that makes up for otherwise mundane plot navigating. Creeps, crawls and all the grossness in between soon rise – it’s enough to keep genre fans engaged on character corruption alone.

A movie poster for Let Her Out debuted recently, on Breakthrough Entertainment. This release was followed by another, on the horror website Shock Till You Drop (photos). The early graphics show a woman struggling with a psychological split, following a traumatic accident. Shot by Cody Calahan (Antisocial 2), the script was developed by Adam Seybold. Alanna LeVierge, Nina Kiri and Adam Christie star in this horror thriller. Many of the images, from Let Her Out, are hosted here. From the story, a bike courier suffers a head injury. In the hospital, she experiences hallucinations and night terrors. A tumour is found and it is discovered that Helen (LeVierge) has a twin growing within her. Its influence forces her to act out, threatening everyone around her. Let Her Out is two party collaboration. Calling back to the minimalist sci-fi stories of yesteryear, Ejecta blends found footage camerawork with an Area 51-esque experiment that wants to prove the existence of alien lifeforms. Penned by genre favorite Tony Burgess (Pontypool/Septic Man), it’s a story about paranoia that hits on a possession arc we typically see connected to exorcisms and demonic overtakings – but it’s not one that dares to push the envelope.
What’s been said about extraterrestrial invasions is restated by Ejecta in a lot of the same ways, which only reminds us of past films that have executed interplanetary thrills with far more energy. Whether you’re thinking of the basement scene in Signs, or any first-person chase scene from the Vicious brothers’ Extraterrestrial, directors Chad Archibald and Matt Wiele are only able to produce another bland case of flying saucers and gangly spacemen. Nothing more, and nothing less.

It can be really hard to create new and compelling sci-fi stories involving aliens these days, especially on an indie scale. That’s why I will give Ejecta and its filmmakers, Chad Archibald and Matt Wiele, a lot of credit for what they've put together here. Unfortunately though, the scares are as scarce as movie’s alien antagonists, the story suffers from a bit of an identity crisis, and the lackluster conclusion left me feeling pretty underwhelmed by the time it was over.
Ejecta follows William Cassidy (Julian Richings), a troubled man who believes he’s being tormented by an alien life form and has taken to posting his theories online over the years out of frustration for his otherworldly predicament. One night, he reaches out to a documentarian (Adam Seybold) about his suspicions that aliens are going to be returning during a cosmic event and the two set out...

Aliens can be annoying, especially with all the probing and implanting they seem to do. Ejecta features a character that shows just why this is the case, especially if the aliens use the victims head as a radio conductor for their conversations. When people who complain about such things are normally seen as crazy, what happens if they are telling the truth? Then you get a film like Ejecta.

The latest from writer Tony Burgess (Pontypool, Septic Man), Ejecta has just debuted its first trailer and poster. The Sci-fi thriller is described as such:
Ejecta is the story of two men who witness an unexplainable event in the atmosphere on the eve of a historic solar storm and must survive a terrifying life form that's hunting them. An anonymous group will stop at nothing to unearth the truth behind what happened to the men that night and prove to the world that we were never alone in the universe.
Written by Tony Burgess, the madman behind PontyPool and Septic Man, Ejecta stars the always exceptional Julian Richings (Man of Steel, Supernatural), Lisa Houle (PontyPool) as well as Adam Seybold (Exit Humanity).
An ode to the 80's lo-fi sci-fi era, the film's poster, effects and electronic score pay homage to a classic time in the genre's history while focusing on...

Anchor Bay Canada scooped up Foresight Features' sci-fi thriller Ejecta, which comes our way courtesy of co-directors Chad Archibald and Matt Wiele, at the tail end of last year. As we wait for a wide release, we've got the very first trailer for you today, which looks to be as trippy as a movie about extraterrestrial contact should by all means be.
This ain't E.T., my friends... though Dee Wallace does pop up for a cameo appearance!
The flick stars Julian Richings (Cube), Lisa Houle (Pontypool), and Adam Seybold (Exit Humanity).
Synopsis
The film tells the terrifying story of two men whose lives cross paths on a fateful night during a once in a lifetime solar storm. An unknown presence besieges the men on a remote farm, triggering an intense struggle to survive not only the night but also the horrific interrogations and tortures of an anonymous organization who...

Exit Humanity
Stars: Dee Wallace, Brian Cox, Bill Moseley, Stephen McHattie, Mark Gibson, Jordan Hayes, Adam Seybold | Written and Directed by John Geddes
The zombie film seems easy sometimes. Just pick a setting stuff the undead in it and make the human characters shoot them to survive. It’s easy, and it makes money. Problem is sometimes the makers of such films forget to make them good. A good example of this would be the latest batch of historical zombie films, because we all know it’s popular to stick zombies with cowboys right? Exit Humanity is one of the latest films to try it’s luck with this strange combination.
As the civil war is coming to an end a new enemy starts to appear, the zombies. There are plenty of dead to start an apocalypse and pretty soon the American wilderness is full of the rotting walking corpses.

Those thinking that every imaginable scenario for a zombie film had been exhausted should think again, for Exit Humanity, though an inextricably uneven feat of filmmaking, at least gets a few points for originality. Set in the late 19th century after the end of the American Civil War, it feels in many ways like the more tasteful little brother of Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, sending world history on a collision course with the fantastical.
Framed by a procedural “tell us a story” layout, Brian Cox narrates from a survival tome written by protagonist Edward Young (Mark Gibson), after a zombie breakout took place in the 1860s. With his wife dead, Young goes searching for his son, but when he discovers that he too has succumbed to the infection, Young is forced to do something that will change him forever.

Writer/Director John Geddes leads us straight into the real-life horrors of a bloody Civil War battle, immediately setting the stage for his film, Exit Humanity. The story jumps to six years later as war vet Edward Young arrives home after a hunting trip to find his son missing and his wife has been turned into a walking dead. Edward is forced to kill his wife, then sets out in search of his son in treacherous, zombie-infested woods.
Authenticity is one of the main strengths of Exit Humanity. The forest setting provides beautiful texture and the chilly, wet climate gives the solid cast of actors an honest setting to work from. Present day is beautifully tinted in dull sepia tones while the flashbacks depicting happier times with Edward and his wife and son are brighter and more colorful. The film is anchored in realism, so when the zombies enter the picture,...

In case you haven’t noticed, the horror scene in Canada is a-boomin’. Over the last year, a new re-emergence in Canuxploitation has been hitting the international markets with a fury, as seen in such films as Hobo with a Shotgun, Monster Brawl (here), Father’s Day (here), In the House of Flies, Tucker & Dale vs. Evil, Pontypool, and in what might be the best of these recently released, Exit Humanity.
Killer Film caught up with director John Geddes to chat about the Civil War-based zombie story, while he is knee deep in post. Read on!
Jon: How did Exit Humanity get going? Were you interested in the Civil War prior?
John Geddes: I have always had a passion for the history of the Civil War. It was an incredible time in American history where so many lived in despair yet they showed amazing resilience and kept hope for a better world ahead.

Break out your musket for this first trailer for Exit Humanity. This is a period piece situated in the civil war and here, unbelievably, a zombie outbreak takes place. This critic is currently looking at the history books and there is no mention of the the walking dead; however, John Geddes' latest features incorporates some imaginative sequences and some dark frames. Still, in all of this darkness, actor Bill Moseley's voice can still be heard barking orders. Have a look at the clip below, as Exit Humanity gets set to release late in 2011.
Tagline: "History has a violent way of repeating itself."
The plot outline for Exit Humanity is here:
"How does a man deal with the loss of everything meaningful in his life, and the loss of mankind’s humanity amongst chaos and despair? Set in 1870’s Tennessee, Exit Humanity is the legend of Edward Young’s...

Currently sitting in post is writer/director John Geddes' ('Scarce') new zombie project 'Exit Humanity'. It's certainly getting tougher and tougher to rejig the popular flesh-eating sub-genre that is the zombie one especially with the hordes of walking dead related projects, movies and TV shows out there at the moment. But let's hope this new flick set during the American Civil War will freshen things up. 'Exit Humanity' stars Dee Wallace, Stephen McHattie, Bill Moseley, Mark Gibson, Jordan Hayes and Adam Seybold. You can check out the new teaser poster below....

Exit Humanity is a Canadian production (go Canada!) written and directed by John Geddes and produced by Foresight Features. It is about a young man's struggle to survive in the aftermath of a deadly undead outbreak during the American Civil war and stars Dee Wallace and Bill Moseley as well as Canadian character actor Stephen McHattie and Mark Gibson, Adam Seybold and Jordan Hayes.
The film now entering post production and some stills from the shoot have appeared. Apparently these are straight out of the camera, but I have to say they look pretty darn good as is. Lots of character, mud and good costume work.
Check out some still from the picture courtesy of Todd Twitch (who incidentally plays a zombie in it).
Head to Quiet Earth to see the stills.

There's something brewing in Collingwood. The town of twenty thousand to the north west of Toronto was a popular skiing destination as a kid growing up in the area but is not much in the public consciousness beyond that. A surprising place to find a new genre film production house, then, but Collingwood is where you'll find Foresight Features.
Foresight attracted attention in these pages earlier with their upcoming horror-action-comedy Monster Brawl and they're back now with their Civil War set zombie picture Exit Humanity, written and directed by John Geddes.
