"Do it again. This time so it doesn't suck." A remarkable proof-of-concept short film to show the incredible potential of the Unreal Engine. Of course this isn't the first animated short film to do this, but this one does stand out. Flite is a sci-fi hyper-realistic 3D animated short film created by VFX artist Tim Webber, who also happens to be Cco of the VFX studio known as Framestore in the UK. They've been hyping this up all year and it's finally online to watch. "Using state-of-the-art virtual production techniques comes one of the most technically impressive sci-fi shorts." Set in London 2053, a world champion hoverboarder finds herself imprisoned in a skyscraper by her obsessive manager. She engineers an ingenious high-rise escape but soon finds herself riding for her life. The film features Alba Baptista as Stevie, with Gethin Anthony, Daniel Lawrence Taylor, and Hayley Carmichael. Tim Webber, the Oscar-winning VFX supervisor of Alfonso Cuaron’s 2013 space-set thriller Gravity, has unwrapped the trailer for his directional debut — an experimental sci-fi short titled Flite that the inventive filmmaker created while putting a new VFX and virtual production pipeline through its paces.
London-headquartered VFX facility Framestore (for which Webber serves as Cco) was the lead VFX vendor on Gravity, which made early use of techniques now considered a part of what is known as virtual production, which the VFX community is now quickly working to develop and adopt for all types of production. For Flite, Webber made use of Framestore’s latest iteration of its system, custom built around Epic Games’ Unreal Engine. “A lot of the things we did in [Flite] are taking what we did in Gravity and moving them on with modern technology and making them easier to do and more sophisticated,” Webber tells The Hollywood Reporter.

"House of the Dragon" takes place a long, long time before the events of "Game of Thrones," so it wouldn't quite make sense for vast majority of "Got" characters to make any sort of appearance. But there is one character fans are theorizing could appear: the Red Witch, Melisandre (Carice van Houten). Could we see our old friend in "House of the Dragon" season two and beyond?
Here's a refresher if you haven't thought about "Game of Thrones" in a while. Melisandre is a Red Priestess who aligns herself with Stannis Baratheon (Stephen Dillane). She preaches the religion of R'hllor, also known as the Lord of Light, who's very closely associated with fire. The faith is much more popular in the Free Cities, and basically no one in Westeros practices before Melisandre comes. They also believe in the Prince That Was Promised, who will save everyone from the darkness. At first,...

This article contains spoilers for "House of the Dragon" episode five and "Game of Thrones."
Most couples on "Game of Thrones" and its prequel series, "House of the Dragon," are pretty much doomed from the start. Life in Westeros is hard, even for its most rich and powerful, and marriages are rarely a matter of love. For Rhaenyra Targaryen (Milly Alcock) and Laenor Velaryon (Theo Nate), marriage is entirely political. They will unite two ancient houses and help cement political alliances, forging a new path forward with their offspring. Both of them a bit hesitant to wed because they already have romantic interests, but are able to come to an agreement that should satisfy everyone. They're surprisingly progressive in a frequently backwards world, opting for a secret open marriage that will allow Laenor to express his true feelings for the Knight of Kisses, Joffrey (Solly McLeod), while Rhaenyra can continue...

Appointment watching is back Sunday nights with the debut season of HBO’s “House of the Dragon,” a prequel series to “Game of Thrones.”
The two fantasy dramas don’t have any of the same characters, but they are deeply connected both behind the scenes – with “Thrones” series author George R.R. Martin serving as a co-creator and executive producer of this series, and Miguel Sapochnik, a veteran “Thrones” director, now the co-showrunner of this show (alongside Ryan Condal) — and through the ancient family Houses that make up the cast of characters.
Here are a few things to remember before watching the first episode of “House of the Dragon” (check back weekly for further updates as we learn more about the show):

Club Knuckledust punters pay to watch homeless army veterans kill each other in this lurid tale of a fighter who goes rogue
At Club Knuckledust, clients have access to a range of dodgy entertainment, ranging from basic sex-club fetish fun to watching homeless ex-soldiers suffering from Ptsd kill each other in a cage arena. Manager Serena (Camille Rowe) slinks about in polyester lamé frocks arranging the brutality and profiting from the betting, her evilness presumably meant to be signalled by her American accent. But it all goes wrong one night when a veteran conscript, given the fighting name of Hard Eight (Moe Dunford), goes rogue and refuses to let himself get killed in the third round.
A variety of eccentric characters are introduced as the action toggles back and forth between flashbacks, showing what happened immediately next in the terrordome, and a subsequent police investigation and interrogation of Hard Eight.

"This is my world... And I control everything in it." Samuel Goldwyn Films has released an official trailer for Knuckledust, an intense action-thriller movie that looks like a mash-up between Fight Club and The Raid (the original one from 2011). A specialized police task force discovers an elite fight club (called "Club Knuckledust") where they find seven underground levels, each filled with the dead bodies of fighters from around the world. Only one man is found left alive. The task force has to work out if he's a mass murderer or the lone survivor? Of course, we already know he fought his way down there and is probably the winner. But still! This looks brutally intense. Starring Moe Dunford, Kate Dickie, Camille Rowe, Phil Davis, Alex Ferns, Olivier Richters, Jaime Winstone, Gethin Anthony, and Sebastien Foucan. This looks like it could be seriously badass, or one big, bloody mess. Hopefully it's...

The first season of Manhunt (aka Manhunt: Unabomber) aired on Discovery Channel in 2017. The anthology series moved to Spectrum's exclusive channel for its second season where it was seen by a limited audience. Because Covid-19 has caused a delay for the production of CBS' regular shows, the network picked up the rights to air season two. Will the additional exposure and revenue help Manhunt be renewed for a third season, with a new true-crime tale or, will it be cancelled? Could Manhunt return to CBS if the ratings are strong enough? Stay tuned.

Having made a name for themselves on Downton Abbey and Game of Thrones, respectively, Cara Theobold and Gethin Anthony now join forces in sweet, indie romantic drama Around the Sun, directed by Oliver Krimpas. It couldn’t be more different from their previous experiences, for this is a single setting, two-hander – more reminiscent of stage work. When we had the pleasure of speaking to the duo on Zoom last week, we wanted to discuss just how fun a shoot it was for them, and unique an experience.
We also talk about how cool it would be to be a location scout, and they both recount their experiences on the major shows where they made their name. We also get onto future plans, and just how productive they’ve been in lockdown, and what exciting new ventures they both have coming up.

A new trailer has dropped for Toby Spanton’s latest short film ‘Welcome to the Powder Keg’ after winning ‘Best Drama Short’ at the Olympus Film Festival in La.
Set in modern-day Brooklyn, Tommy is struggling to keep up with payments for his mother’s medical treatment. Recently released from prison and with no one to support him, he is desperate. An opportunity to fight in the underground world of no rules bare-knuckle fighting would give him the cash he needs to help his mother, but at what cost?
Spanton’s third short film stars Gethin Anthony and Okezie Morro (‘The Mist’) as two friends who need to make difficult decisions when one needs to get rich quick.
Also in trailers – First trailer launches for ‘Real’

Spectrum Originals is making its first tentative move into docuseries ahead of the launch of Manhunt: Deadly Games and is eyeing its first Asian-American series.
Charter Communications’ original content division is prepping the launch of the Lionsgate-produced drama, which tells the story of the wrongly-accused Richard Jewell in this chronicle of the search for the 1996 Atlanta Olympics Bomber, on February 3.
To coincide with this, the broadcaster is set to launch a short-form documentary series, Hunted, to coincide with the drama, which stars Jack Huston, Judith Light, Gethin Anthony, Kelly Jenrette and Cameron Britton.
Katherine Pope, who oversees the content division, told Deadline that it is set to air a six-part, short-form docuseries, produced by digital news brand Attn, consisting of episodes of six minutes to tell the “real story of the Atlanta bombing”. “That’s us dipping on our toes in [to docuseries] and we’d like to do more,” he said.

At today’s TCA, Spectrum Originals/Lionsgate Television introduced the explosive (literally) new trailer for its anthology series Manhunt: Deadly Games (you can watch it above) and announced that ten one-hour episodes of the limited series will drop on Feb. 3 to facilitate binge watching.
“People are going to get lost in the telling of this true story,” said Katherine Pope, head of Spectrum Originals, before introducing a large panel that included EPs Andrew Sodroski and Michael Dinner and cast members Jack Huston, Judith Light, Gethin Anthony, Kelly Jenrette and Cameron Britton who portrays the wrongly-accused Richard Jewell in this chronicle of the search for the 1996 Atlanta Olympics Bomber.
But one of the first questions from assembled TV journalists was, where can audiences binge the series, since not all have access to Spectrum? Sodroski and Dinner punted the question to Pope, who assured the questioner not to worry.
“There will be a second window U.

When “Manhunt: Deadly Games” premieres next month — dramatizing the investigation into the 1996 Olympic Park bombing as a 10-episode limited series — Clint Eastwood’s “Richard Jewell” will barely be in the rearview, but the producers are surely hoping the reception to their show won’t be as contentious.
Eastwood’s film, which tackled the same events as the Spectrum anthology, came under heavy criticism for its portrayal of former Atlanta Journal-Constitution reporter Kathy Scruggs, the real-life journalist who reported on the investigation for the paper. In the film, Scruggs is seen trading sex with an FBI agent in exchange for a tip on a story, a portrayal that inspired the Ajc to pen a letter calling for a boycott of the film and accusing the filmmakers of “malicious fabrications.”

Here’s a first look at Moe Dunford (Vikings) and Kate Dickie (The Witch) in James Kermack’s action thriller Knuckledust.
Camille Rowe (Now Is Everything) also stars. In the pic, after the police are called to take down an elite underground fighting den, they get more than they bargained for when they discover seven levels of hell, filled with the dead bodies of multiple fighters, assassins and goons, with just one bloodied man still breathing. They have 90 minutes to find out if he’s the lone survivor or a multiple murderer.
Kermack (Hi-Lo Joe) wrote the screenplay and is reuniting with producers Julien Loeffler and Fabrice Smadja at Featuristic Films, with The Project producers Laurent Fumeron, Daniel Goroshko and Rodolphe Sanzé.
Film is being made in association with OneWorld Entertainment, Trigger Films and Onsight.

It’s always extra frustrating when a biopic falls short, especially if its subject is as compelling as the relationship between two brilliant iconoclasts like Virginia Woolf and Vita Sackville-West.
It’s a shame, too, that many in the audience will get their introduction to Sackville-West via “Vita and Virginia.” In reality, she was an extraordinarily complicated, trailblazing bisexual writer who lived on her own terms regardless of the price to herself or others in her orbit. Here, she comes across as a spoiled and superficial narcissist who is merely, as one character intones amid the film’s plethora of plummy accents, “rahthah hard work.”
As played by Gemma Arterton (also an executive producer), Vita is pure seductress: gorgeous and tempestuous and shockingly modern even by the most decadent standards of 1927. She’s irresistible, in other words, for the contemplative, always-questing Virginia. But Virginia’s Bloomsbury set isn’t as easily swayed.

No other mass criminal or cult figure in American history has garnered as much fascination within Hollywood and popular culture as Charles Manson (though Ted Bundy is coming close). He and his “family” have been the subject of movies, parodies, and he even landed a Rolling Stone cover. “American Horror Story: Cult” had an actor portraying Manson, and Quentin Tarantino is digging up the past for his “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” featuring the Manson Family murders. Here is a sampling of actors who have dared to play the notorious figure.
Steve Railsback – “Helter Skelter” (1976)
The memory of Manson was still fresh when this TV special based on Vincent Bugliosi’s book was aired. CBS even made it a two-night special.
Michael Reid MacKay – “Summer Dreams: The Story of the Beach Boys” (1990)
This TV special about the career of the Beach Boys explored Manson’s relationship with Beach Boys member Dennis Wilson.

Diehard fans of “Game of Thrones” have been vocal about all the reasons why they’ve been disappointed in the final season, but most of the criticisms boil down to not enough storytelling to give characters their proper evolution. In fact, poor writing has been cited in the online petition to remake Season 8.
“David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have proven themselves to be woefully incompetent writers when they have no source material (i.e. the books) to fall back on,” the petition states. “This series deserves a final season that makes sense. Subvert my expectations and make it happen, HBO!”
Now it appears that there’s e data to show that the writing has changed from when the series first started to how it ended. According to data that GitHub member Mr. Quart crunched from OpenSubtitles.org, The words spoken per minute in each “Game of Thrones” episode has gone...

"Does she make you want to write or live?" "Both." Thunderbird Releasing has debuted an official UK trailer for a film titled Vita & Virginia, a romantic drama inspired by the letters written between Virginia Woolf and Vita Sackville-West. "A daring celebration of an unconventional bond, and a vivid exploration of gender, sexuality, creativity and passion, Vita & Virginia details the love story of two women - two writers - who smashed through social barriers to find solace in their forbidden connection." The film stars Gemma Arterton as Vita, and Elizabeth Debicki as Virginia, and is set in the 1920s in London. Despite the odds, the magnetic Vita and the beguiling Virginia forge an unconventional affair, set against the backdrop of their own strikingly contemporary marriages - which inspired one of Woolf’s most iconic novels, "Orlando". The cast includes Isabella Rossellini, Rupert Penry-Jones, Peter Ferdinando, Emerald Fennell, Gethin Anthony,...

Joe and Lizzie try to make it work in James Kermack’s debut feature, which is big on angst but shot through with undeniable energy
British writer-director James Kermack’s feature debut goes big on the angst of thirtysomething blokes and their eternal struggles issues with commitment and attaining self-knowledge, but it’s hard to hold a grudge against it given the energy of the direction and the charisma of its toothsome young stars. Matthew Stathers stars as the titular Joe, a professional children’s entertainer and hard-partying showboat who is determined to make it work with the lissom Ellie (Lizzie Philips), an aspiring dancer as quick on the quip as Joe himself. Although Gethin Anthony, Tom Bateman and a few other supports drift in and out of the story, the relationship between the two leads is the object of focus here as they go through the highs and lows of young love.

These actors and actresses know how to kill it! And by it we mean they know how to totally transform themselves for their true crime TV roles. From Sarah Paulson's wigged out portrayal of Marcia Clarke to Al Pacino's hair-raising take on Phil Spector and Gethin Anthony's unruly role as Charles Manson, plenty of stars have totally changed their look to get into character when portraying a real-life person. America experienced a first taste of the true crime genre in 1966 when Truman Capote weaved the mostly true tale of Richard "Dick" Hickock and Perry Smith, who brutally murdered four members of the Clutter family in 1959, in his novel In Cold Blood. In 1974, former Los Angeles...

Quentin Tarantino could be working on an “Inglorious Basterds” reunion, but the director’s new film looks to hew a little closer to the truth.
Tarantino, along with long-time producers Harvey and Bob Weinstein, are reportedly putting together a new film based on the Manson Family murders. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Brad Pitt, who starred in the 2009 film “Inglourious Basterds” has been approached to star, as has Jennifer Lawrence.
Wme is reportedly looking for studios to co-finance the picture, which could be ready to pitch as soon as Labor Day and shoot by summer 2018.
If the movie comes together, it would be Tarantino’s first film to be based on true events, assuming you don’t count Aldo Raine’s murderous rampage through Germany in “Inglourious Basterds.” Though no script details have been confirmed, one story is said to focus on Sharon Tate, the actress who was murdered by...

Hayden Christensen's career never really took off the way he expected it to after he made those Star Wars prequel films. Delivering that ridiculous dialogue that George Lucas came up with for the film didn't do him any favors.
Regardless, he seems like a decent actor from all the other films I've seen him in, and now he's got a couple new projects coming out. One is a solid looking film called Numb, At The Edge of The End. The other is called First Kill, which sees him team up with Bruce Willis to rescue his son from a really bad dude. Here's the synopsis for First Kill:
Will (Christensen) is a Wolf of Wall Street who takes his family for a retreat at the cabin where he grew up. After witnessing a shooting in the woods, though, his young son Danny (Ty Shelton, in his film debut...

"Let go of my son right now!" Lionsgate Premiere has unveiled the first trailer for an action thriller titled First Kill, from director Steven C. Game of Thrones star Natalie Dormer will lend her voice to one of Mass Effect: Andromeda‘s characters, BioWare has announced via a new video. Set to play the role of Dr. Lexi T’Perro, the Asari will be a crew member of The Tempest and provide medical aid to the player’s Ryder character and their companions as they travel across the galaxy. Late in the movie-esque premiere of “Aquarius,” David Duchovny’s rambunctious detective Sam Hodiak scolds a fellow cop in a delightfully specific manner. You see, the young buck contaminated a piece of evidence by not using gloves, infuriating his commanding officer who’d been receiving pictures of kidnapped women in the mail for a few days already. He wants to get this guy, and his own team is letting him down! But Hodiak’s condescension isn’t fierce or ugly; instead, it’s marked with an infectious wink and smile — even though we know better.
And you do. The content itself is somewhat familiar, as is the dynamic of a superior officer chastising a rookie boy in blue, but the striking aspect of the exchange — beyond Duchovny’s addictive charm — is that while they bicker back and forth, we know the clue in question is opposite in nature of their superfluous exchange. And when Hodiak pulls open the envelope and sees what’s inside, the mood darkens and the laughs disappear.
This much might feel familiar and with good reason. “Aquarius” is largely the same show it was in Season 1 — which is fine. Big issues (like race) remain relevant, but tertiary; Charles Manson is a plot driver, but can’t stack up against Hodiak as a character; there’s fun to be had (nothing beats when Hodiak gives zero fucks), but business to take care of (broadcast cop cliches cannot be avoided). Yet beside the special presentation of the premiere episode — which really does add a grandiose atmosphere to the proceedings — there is one significant change: Women fare better in Season 2 than they did in Season 1.
Within these opening hours, two of last season’s most notable ladies get more definition than they did in 13 a year ago. Charmain (Claire Holt), a young cop looking to break into undercover work despite a gender bias in the Lapd, was on the right path by the end of Season 1, and she delves into an aptly risky storyline that will have to be handled with care. She’s become an extremely compelling character; one that threatens to rival Grey Damon’s Shafe as our second favorite of the show (behind Hodiak, of course). In addition, Hodiak’s new boo, Grace (Michaela McManus) takes a stand that defines her far better — and in a more complicated way — than any of her prior choices.
More named-but-disposable female characters are still the damsels in distress waiting for Sir Sam to save them, but opening with layered character analysis of the two most prominent women reassures us of the series’ feminist mentality. And this is key for “Aquarius” not only in the public eye, but in succeeding overall. John McNamara’s dark period piece has a knack for injecting infectious humor into every other scene, but tonally that demands the drama earn its levity — and it does. It was easy to fall for the series’ charms in Season 1, but “Aquarius” only now justifies them.
That being said, Season 2 sees a slight shift toward more serious content in its first two hours, and NBC’s uninterrupted presentation perfectly establishes the new year. The two-hour cut is actually three episodes worth of content diced together to become something filmic, if not fully cinematic. There’s a well-utilized time jumping element that will last throughout the season. Known historic events take precedence for the first time, building to a crescendo you may only fully appreciate if you’re steeped in Manson lore. And the performances overall improve, namely Gethin Anthony’s challenging portrayal of a future mass murderer. Titled “Helter Skelter,” Season 2’s introduction can’t quite stand on its own as a movie, but you wouldn’t want that. “Aquarius” is a TV show for a reason, and one that you want to spend time with — even when things turn grisly.
Thankfully, McNamara & Co. still find ways to allow Duchovny to be Duchovny — the delightful, uncensored quipster who takes nothing seriously until, you know, it matters. There’s something both admirable and frustrating in the series’ refusal to dive head first into its stars most watchable attributes — which, I imagine, is both what NBC wants and knows better than to ask for; “Aquarius” isn’t your typical cop show. It strives for more, and it merits that ambition in Season 2.
Grade: B+

Grade: B+

First reported as a rumor earlier this morning over at The Hashtag Show, Marvel and Netflix smartly opted to not bother denying and just went ahead and officially confirmed the news with EW - "Game of Thrones" actor Finn Jones has scored the title role in the "Iron Fist" series.
The project is the fourth and final hero series in the original deal between Marvel and Netflix to adapt four of Marvel's properties into original series on the streaming service. A mini-series event, "The Defenders," starring the title characters from all four series is also on the way but a schedule hasn't yet been made clear.
The story focuses on Daniel Rand and his return to New York City after being missing for four years. He fights against the criminal element corrupting New York City with his kung-fu mastery and ability to summon the power of the fiery Iron Fist.

[Spoilers for "Aquarius" Season 1 below.] This summer, NBC's "Aquarius" blended police procedural, family melodrama and the story of real-life cult leader Charles Manson (Gethin Anthony) and his "Family" into an engrossing thirteen hours of television. Series director and executive producer Jonas Pate has said that "Aquarius" is not historically accurate, but "inspired by the truth" of the Manson Family, who committed one of the strangest and most infamous murder sprees in Los Angeles history. But when looking forward to the second season ordered by the network, Charlie Manson's life is a great blueprint for the series. Read More: Review: 'Aquarius' Gets Enough Wrong Things Right to Create an Oddly Compelling Cop Story Let's take a brief look at Charles Manson and his "family." Manson was born in 1934 to an unwed teenage mother. By 1967, he was a career criminal who had spent more than half his life in jail and.
