The film also stars Patrick J Adams, Jacob Cedergren, John Leguizamo, Eddie Izzard, David Oyelowo, Dianne Wiest, Steve Buscemi, Adriana Barraza, Simon Abkarian and Bob Balaban. The original concept in 2009 was for the film to be watched on smartphones. Paul McCartney based much of his music on his personal experiences, especially his fond memories of Liverpool. For instance, “Penny Lane” was written about an actual street near his childhood home. One song from his solo career references a street game he often played when he was a kid.
Paul McCartney based the song ‘Queenie Eye’ on a game he played in Liverpool
Before the internet, video games, and streaming services, kids had to find creative ways to keep themselves entertained. Growing up in a working-class family, McCartney didn’t have a ton to play with, but he found ways to have fun with the other kids in his neighborhood.
One way they passed the time was by playing “Queenie, Queenie, who’s got the ball?” This is a popular children’s game where one person is designated “Queenie” and throws a ball backwards in the air to the other players.

Don’t feel bad if you haven’t heard of the name Hilma af Klint until recently — or before finding your way to “Hilma,” Lasse Hallström’s somewhat syrupy, conventional yet still respectable attempt to broaden the general public’s knowledge of, and affection for, the Swedish abstract artist. If so, you can hardly be blamed for your unawareness, considering af Klint’s longtime (and only recently reversed) obscurity in art circles.
Hers is a story as old as time: A brilliant, ahead-of-her-time woman goes largely ignored despite significant contributions to her field, while her male counterparts claim the spotlight and all the glory. In that regard, it was af Klint herself who invented the notion of abstract painting years before Wassily Kandinsky, one of the most regarded Modernists and abstract painters of all time. And when she died in 1944, her magnificent work was locked away and kept from the public eye for years.

Like most art lovers, the prolific filmmaker Lasse Hallström had never heard of the prolific painter Hilma af Klint (1862-1944) until recently. Af Klint was disregarded, discouraged, sidelined and overlooked during her lifetime, but except for a four-year period, she never stopped creating. She took painting beyond representational still lifes and landscapes and into the uncharted sphere of abstraction, several years before Wassily Kandinsky would claim the mantle of that innovative leap. Her work sat in storage for 20 years after her death, per her instructions, and none of it is for sale.

Hilma af Klint (1862-1944) is an important part of art history and one of the first ever painters of abstract art. This is a story about Hilma and the circumstances which made her paintings possible. Hilma tells the remarkable story of trailblazing artist Hilma af Klint, which is something of family affair with the film directed by Lasse Hallstrom, and starring his wife Lena Olin, and their daughter Tora, both playing the title role. The film boasts an impressive ensemble, and it’s the ensemble we spent time with – as we spoke to Maeve Dermody, Lily Cole & Tom Wlaschiha about this period piece.
We discussed how important women like Hilma were in history, and what it is about her art that the cast like most. They also talk about their experiences shooting the film – and of course, we couldn’t help but ask Wlaschiha about his experience shooting Stranger Things, and what it’s like starring in shows such as that and Game of Thrones.

Tom Wlaschiha and Jazzy de Lisser (“Game of Thrones”) have joined the cast of Viaplay’s major English-language original feature “Hilma.” The film is written and directed by Lasse Hallström, the Oscar-nominated director of “The Cider House Rules” and “My Life as a Dog.”
The biopic, which explores the life of revolutionary Swedish artist and feminist pioneer Hilma af Klint, will bow this fall in theaters and on Viaplay, Scandinavia’s leading streaming service.
Wlaschiha stars as Rudolf Steiner, the Austrian artist and founder of the anthroposophical spiritual movement. Steiner became a key figure and mentor for Hilma af Klint who created more than a thousand striking paintings, sketches and watercolors that remained largely unknown until decades after her death.
The film explores the enigmatic life of Klint, who navigated through a male-dominated artistic scene to eventually become one of the Western world’s first abstract artists.

No, there won’t be any more Inbetweeners. But what else would you like to ask the Friday Night Dinner actor and Days of the Bagnold Summer director?
There’s a lot more to Simon “Will from The Inbetweeners” Bird than meets the eye. As he’s said himself, he’ll probably never quite get away from his role at the posh one with the briefcase in three Channel 4 series and two films of Iain Morris and Damon Beesley’s teenage-angst-ridden sitcom. Although he had a damn good try as slightly less annoying son, Adam, in six series of Channel 4’s gone, but not forgotten, Friday Night Dinner.
Bird made his West End debut in 2017’s The Philanthropist with Charlotte “Ghosts” Ritchie, Lily Cole, Tom Rosenthal and Matt “Toast of London” Berry. In a three-star review, the Guardian’s Michael Billington described Bird’s performance as: “Funny rather than sad.

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has received a letter signed by 50 of Britain’s biggest stars, including Dame Judi Dench, Brian May Cbe, Leona Lewis, Gary Lineker OBE, James Arthur, Thandie Newton OBE, Alesha Dixon, Ricky Gervais, Mollie King and Dame Twiggy Lawson, urging him to implement a UK ban on the sale of real animal fur.
Animal protection organisation Humane Society International/UK which leads the #FurFreeBritain campaign in collaboration with other animal charities, is hopeful that a 2021 ban is possible now that the Brexit transition is completed.
Fur farming was banned in Britain almost two decades ago in 2003 as it was deemed too cruel. But since then Britain has imported more than £800 million worth of fur from countries including Finland, China, France and Poland, where animals experience severe suffering and distress on fur farms. Nobody can quite explain why, but there’s long been a significant thread connecting the Newport Beach Film Festival to British film culture. The Southern California festival, which celebrates its 20th anniversary this spring, always features a popular showcase of U.K. films. And now, for the fifth year running, the Southern California fest’s U.K. Honors is heading to England to celebrate the best of British entertainment.
The star-studded event takes place Feb. 7 at The Langham Hotel in London, three days before the BAFTA film awards.

Academic institutions are often said to be the making of us. Whether it is the rough and tumble of Grange Hill, the magic of Hogwarts, the threat of Oates Military Academy in Bill & Ted or to ponder on the Theory of everything with the promise of an Oxford Summer School, school life is ripe for the dramatic narrative. Many writers and directors have plundered the chaos and camaraderie of their school days for inspiration and, as most of us have our own early years’ education to compare, they will remain a popular choice for filmmakers.
To register our interest in this subject we aim to take a tour of some of the finest cinematic campuses. Though we’ll be holding our fists airward in solidarity with the American high schools of Ferris Bueller, The Breakfast Club, Ridgemont High and so on, we aim to take a look at those closer to home.

Gruff Rhys doesn’t let the apocalypse prevent him from vainly taking his own picture in the new video for “Selfies in the Sunset,” a duet with Lily Cole and the closing track off the Super Furry Animals singer’s latest LP Babelsberg.
In the Ewan Jones Morris-directed video, a nuclear Armageddon unfolds around them, but Rhys and Cole are more concerned with finding the right emojis and Animojis to capture the moment rather than soak in their last minutes on Earth.

Her appointment to the Brontë Society caused a storm. How will her new film – inspired by Wuthering Heights – be received? We meet the former supermodel at her Impossible HQ
Last December, when Lily Cole was appointed creative partner of the Brontë Society for 2018, it caused a brouhaha. Brontë expert Nick Holland resigned from the society, describing the decision as “a disgrace” and “rank farce”. Yes, Cole might have a double first in history of art from Cambridge University, but what concerned him was that she had chosen to make her living as a model. “The central question,” Holland huffed, “should be, ‘What would Emily Brontë think if she found that the role of chief ‘artist’ and organiser in her celebratory year was a supermodel?’ We all know the answer to that, and anyone who doesn’t isn’t fit to make the decision or have any role in the governance of the Brontë Society.

A post shared by Busy Philipps (@busyphilipps) on Jan 22, 2018 at 10:27pm Pst Best friends are there to cheer you up and lift you up when you're down, and that's exactly what Busy Philipps did for Michelle Williams on the 10-year anniversary of Heath Ledger's death. On Monday, Busy flew out of town to be by her best friend's side during the difficult day. The actress later shared an Instagram photo of Michelle resting her head on hers, writing, "It's ok." Michelle and Heath fell in love after meeting on the set of Brokeback Mountain in 2004. They had a child together, a daughter named Matilda, but broke up in 2007, a year before Heath tragically passed away. Other stars who shared touching tributes to the late actor included Naomi Watts and Lily Cole.

It's hard to believe that it's been 10 years since Heath Ledger's untimely death. On the anniversary of the tragic day, many of Heath's friends and costars shared tributes to the late actor, including actress Naomi Watts, who dated Heath from 2002 to 2004. Naomi took to Instagram and shared her memory of Heath with a black-and-white photo taken by her brother, Ben Watts. The caption reads, "Thinking about this beautiful soul today. 10 years ago he left this world. He was a true original. Heart always on his sleeve, with the most powerful charisma, strength, humor and talent. I will never forget his gentle spirit." Other actors and friends of Heath sharing their tributes included Lily Cole, who starred alongside Heath in his final film, The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, and Busy Philipps, who is godmother to Heath's daughter with Michelle Williams, Matilda.

There are already lots of good interviews with Star Wars: The Last Jedi (2017) costume designer Michael Kaplan on the internet (we recommend this one in particular), so for Clothes on Film we kept it brief and fresh. We caught up with Kaplan, who is also responsible for Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015), Star Trek (2009), Fight Club (1999) and Blade Runner (1982), for a little chat about what’s new for episode 8 of the ever evolving space saga.
Clothes on Film: Let’s kick off by asking you about the best new costume in the film, the Elite Praetorian Guard…
Michael Kaplan: They are my favourite costumes too! I created a mood board with all the elements I was thinking about – mostly shiny, red, candy apple muscle cars from the early 1970s. We incorporated the bends, the vents, etc. I loved the final, completed design arrived at, but that was just the beginning.

Tom Hardy plays a Stormtrooper in Star Wars: The Last Jedi – you know it, I know it, and based on John Boyega’s exasperated comments, the cameo has since become something of an open secret.
Not unlike Daniel Craig’s involvement in The Force Awakens, Hardy was hidden under the guise of a First Order Stormtrooper, one who escorted Finn (Boyega) and Rose to the bridge of the Supremacy, a super-sized warship capable of building and indeed repairing entire Star Destroyers. Yes, Snoke’s HQ really is that big.
But thanks to an Instagram fan account by the name of ‘TomTomHardy’ (via Screen Rant), today brings forth a black-and-white photo of Tom Hardy suited, booted and ready to take the fight to the Resistance. Flanked by a squadron of Stormtroopers, along with a high-ranking officer (Hux, perhaps?), the image itself isn’t all that revealing, nor is it likely to include any spoiler-sensitive material,...

The film’s director Asghar Farhadi is boycotting the Oscars in protest over Us immigration policy.
Oscar-nominated Iranian film The Salesman will be screened in Trafalgar Square for free to demonstrate London’s “openness to the World”.
The film’s director Asghar Farhadi has already said he will boycott this year’s Academy Awards over Donald Trump’s executive orders on immigration, which restricted travel from seven predominantly Muslim counties, including Iran.
The open-air screening will take place on 26 February, the same day as the Oscars, and has been organised by London mayor Sadiq Khan, actor Lily Cole, producer Kate Wilson and film-maker Mark Donne.
Khan told London paper The Evening Standard: “Londoners have always prided themselves on their openness to the world, and what better way to do that than to come together to watch this powerful film in one of the world’s most famous public spaces.”

For hard-core Outlander aficionados, #Breewatch is over. Sophie Skelton, a relative newcomer, will play Claire and Jamie’s daughter, Brianna. Fan campaigns had nominated a number of candidates for the role, including Karen Gillan, Deborah Ann Woll, Rose Leslie, and Lily Cole, among others. Vulture ran all of these options by Outlander while on set in Scotland, before executive producer Maril Davis had settled on a Brianna. "Ah, yes," Davis smiled knowingly. "I feel like some of the leads that people feel like [should be Brianna] are difficult. It's hard to find someone who is willing to put Outlander in the first position.” Plus, when fans play casting director, they tend to fixate on mutable physical characteristics, such as eye and hair color — traits that could be altered with contacts, hair dye, and wigs."Certainly, Brianna has certain physical traits we're trying to adhere to," Davis said. The Messenger is the story of Jack’s last melt down: a story of frustration and guilt, love and betrayal, family and blame. When he becomes embroiled in the unfinished business of Mark, a journalist murdered in the local park who is desperate to communicate with his wife Sarah, Jack finds himself getting closer to Sarah, obsessed with passing on Mark’s message. Hidden secrets and lies finally push the fragile Jack over the edge, but hope appears in the person of his estranged sister, Emma. Jack starts to remember the past they shared together and as the memories come flooding back, he confronts the truth about the death of his father.
I’m not sure how I feel about The Messenger.
