Zombies may have reached their saturation point in pop culture, but it will be some time before they've fully faded into the background again. Unfortunately, that means plenty of rote iterations of the same story are in our future. Proving my point is the film State of Emergency.
An explosion at a military bio-weapons plant unleashes a toxin into the air, turning nearby citizens into flesh-eating monsters. Jim (Jay Hayden) tries to escape, losing his almost-fiancée—he was hours away from proposing to her before the explosion—in the process. As the military moves in to quarantine the area, Jim must fight for survival. Luckily he finds shelter and friendship in an abandoned warehouse where couple Scott (Scott Lilly) & Julie (Kathryn Todd Norman) and diabetic Ix (Tori White), short for Alex, are hiding out. From there it's just an overly tense wait for rescue or death.
